Kechara nodded absently, still a bright red, but busy enjoying his touch. "Thank you..." She whispered.
Oh dear... came the mental sigh. Kechara shook her head, "N-no it doesn't." She replied, unable to look him in the eye (not that she did much in the first place). She was a horrible liar and even she knew it. She continued still. shifting as if to stand up, clearly about to attempt to walk and show Briar she was fine.

Briar held onto Kechara, preventing her from standing much less wandering off with a hurt leg. "I don't like seeing you hurting," he said in his gentle voice. "If it hurts, let's take a rest until the pain stops."

Kechara shook her head, "But...but you're hungry." She said, staring at his red chest fur, "And I can deal with pain, it's not something that's new." She added, her intentions completely innocent. With the truth out, she allowed herself to press a paw against the bandage over her leg, feeling the wet warmth from blood. "We should find something to eat first, then rest." She offered softly, "I'll be fine."

Briar frowned at Kechara and shook his head. "I don't want you to have to deal with pain," he said, the look in his eyes sad. "I can wait to eat. I'm not that hungry anyway. I would much rather take care of you than force you to walk when you're hurt."

Kechara paused, eyes wide, "But--but..." She flamed crimson, and raised her gaze to his for a split second before dropping it again, "B-but..." She shook her head slightly and smiled weakly, "Th-thank you...."
She pressed her paw against her wound once again and winced with both pain and reaization, "Um..." She began meekly, glancing down at it, "I think we might need a new bandage soon..."

Briar looked down and winced at the blood seeping through the bandage. He nodded in agreement. "I believe there were still some strips left from that blanket," he said. "You wait here while I go and get them." He stared at Kechara sternly before dashing back to where they had slept that night to retrieve the bandages.

Kechara almost nodded then her eyes widened as he continued-"W-wait!" she cried, fear lancing through her. She was alone in the forest; what if the monster was still there? She shivered, heart pounding in her ears. "Ah..." she whimpered, paw pressed to her mouth and forcing away tears.
She had been fine when Briar was with her, her fears had been washed away, but now she was alone again. All alone in the forest with a bleeding leg that would probably attract even worse creatures. "B-Briar?" She whispered, hoping his name would miraclously summon him.
She gulped audibly and told herself firmly not to worry and be strong. Nothing was going to happen, nothing at all. Briar would be back soon and she would look like a complete fool if he found her crying just because he left her for a few minutes. Left to get something for her. She took a deep breath and straightened her back, trying to look outwardly calm while inside she was almost shivering from fear.

Briar raced as fast as his legs could carry him back to the bank of the lake where he had left the strips of blanket used for make bandages. Snatching them up quickly in his mouth, he turned on his heels and raced back to the forest where he had left Kechara. When he reached her again, he was panting for breath after the long run.

Kechara's ears twitched as she heard Briar's approach. She looked up and smiled before shaking her head, "Briar..." She reached out with a paw cupping his face gently as he panted, "Don't tire yourself just because I'm hurt." She told him, her eyes concerned, "You'll get hurt yourself." She shook her head, taking the bandages.

Briar leaned forward and nuzzled Kechara. "I didn't want you to be left alone for too long," he explained. "Now let's get the bandages changed." He put aside the new strips before gesturing for Kechara to hold out her leg so he could remove the dirty bandages.

Kechara blushed and nodded, shifting around and holding out her leg. Thank you she whispered mentally, but her mouth remained closed, withholding her words. She tilted her head to the side, looking at the re-opened wound, "I wonder if it'll scar." She murmured absently.
She was so focused on her wound and Briar, that she failed to notice her bows--which before this time she had always made sure were securely fastened--were beginning to unravel, beginning to reveal the secrets underneath.

Briar took her leg and unwrapped the bandages he had put on the night before. He grabbed some new strips to wrap around her leg. When he glanced up at her, his eyes caught on something: her bows slipping from where they were normally. "What's that?" he asked, leaning over for a better look of what was beneath the bows.

"Mm?" Mumbled Kechara, shifting her attention from her thoughts to Briar and then where he was looking. She shrieked, jerking away from him and backing up, eyes wide, "Oh gods, oh gods!" She whimpered, backing away until she pressed against a tree, eyes wide with fear. Oh no! Not now! Not here! Not with Briar! She pressed the untied ribbon against it, hoping Briar hadn't seen anything, hoping he wouldn't get mad. It was her secret; her secret that no one should ever see again. No one should see what marked her as outcast, as one who disgraces all.

Briar frowned at the reaction. He hadn't expected her to react like that, and seeing her back away from him made his heart feel a painful twinge. Stepping closer to her, he moved slowly and cautiously to avoid frightening her any more than she already was. He placed a paw on her shoulder and drew her into a warm, comforting embrace.

Kechara didn't notice him approach, her mind was spiraling back to the past, where misery and pain was all she knew and not even a drop of hope remained. She shuddered then as she felt arms close around her, jerking her back to the present. "Ah..." She squeaked breathlessly before grasping him as tight as she could and wept tears she had held back for years.
Finally, after the last sob had escaped she managed to half-whisper half-croak, "S-s-sorry." She still clung to him, using him as an anchor to here and now, "V-very s-sorry." She buried her face into his fur, "I-I didn't mean to burden you, I should never have forced you into this." She swallowed a sob, "I-I just..." She let out a soft whine, "Just..." she swallowed, "...needed someone to be there, I guess."
She closed her eyes again, fearing what would happen next. Would he leave her? Would he understand? What would he do?
