I prefer Europe's standard of goth. Alot of goths I see are just the stereotypical vile goth. I'm more of a European goth if really goth at all. sweatdrop
A lot of people forget that both Cultures that created Goth were European; whilst England was the birthplace and a major influence on it, Germany also had a say in it being the only other influence.

England set the standards, Germany influenced name and to a degree some of the visual associations, England embraced the culture, England and Germany are the strongholds of true Goths.

It's where they were born, and I sincerely believe it's where Goth will die.

I've stopped caring about what people think of my appearance long ago.Pretending to be someone you're not will only hurt yourself in the end. So think about your friendship. If she's a real frien of yours than she'd love you for who you are and wouldn't care of your looks. God also cares what's in your heart not your looks

Well I know how she feels. I recently moved and I feel like I've been pushed back 30 spaces. crying ...Some chick told me if I start wearing anything gothic she will never speak to me again....*sigh*...as if life wasn't complicated enough...if she really cares that much then..well...maybe she isn't that great of a friend after all.

I think the European Goth will die as the American 'gothic' takes over

Where I live for example, when I first moved here I walked into a village inn ,its like a Denney's, in my full attire Chains, Spikes, Leather, Makeup and I was asked to leave and the people in the whole place clapped and whistled as I left. I got pointed at and jeered in almost every public place. Till they opened a hot topic in the mall. For 7 years I was not able to go out in what was standard dress in H.S. and there after because of stigma. Now I toned down a little but well it was kinda fun to be honest. It did not change who I was and well a few well placed little symbols of my devotion to Christ turned some heads too... WE are few as Goths but our God was treated the same way count it as a blessing and use it to grow.

It's basically up to whether you like your friend more than how you look. As to what a goth is, in my opinion (and I'm not saying this is the truth, like I said it's my opinion), a love for dark things, and finding beauty where others can't.
I hope that someday the world will decide to do away with labels and everyone can just be themselves, but until then, I will call myself goth because that's how I am. Anyways, there's my opinion.

If we are still keeping this topic alive though it's pretty old...

i personally am surprised/disappointed that not a single respondent told her to go to God first and foremost! if this is a CHRISTIAN guild, it may also be goth, but we should point her in the ways that our beliefs follow in, based on truths and values that come before all else- before what men think, or what "matters" on the earth.

God comes first... so, if someone has a conflict between what they find their hearts lead them to and what other people around them are saying, they should ultimately pray about it. talk to God! perhaps it is in His will for them to stand strong on their own and be their own person, to change other hearts, or for other reasons we don't know. the Word is also a trustworthy source of guidance, though it is not always clear, especially on things such as this....

i will end my comment here for the potential length it could otherwise achieve. neutral

You're right, we should have thought of that. Thanks for pointing it out.

I guess I suck as a christian
...then again, Im not a christian, Im catholic but meh
And, well, I dont know if your frined really means she will ignore you and such things. Most of my friends are like: "Why do you like that?" or "why do you dress all black?"
It's something you need to live with, besides you didnt come to life to be liked by everyone, did you?
