The small creme dipped tipped dark tail twitched behind the dark chocolate pup. For the first time in the pup's life, Alina didn't feel alone. Though she watched the bi-colored elder settle into a trance-like sleep.

Not wanting to disturbe him, Alina sat motionless. That was until her heavy eyelids kept sliding down over the carmel eyes in her head. Curling up into a block symboled writen sided ball of fur, the little pup's ears twitched as her wary body went still with sleep.

Every now and then her creme/off-white socked paws would kick and Alina wuffled in her pleasent sleep, as if hunting already. The dark femme wasn't concerned just yet about moving, all she wanted was to get that fast hare in her little dream.

It seamed that time passed whist Patches slept. His body had recoved fully and he was ready to move on. The caras as he feared was now attracting ruffians from the sents that seam to fluster threw his aged nose. That was something he had been good at 'gaurding'. With a slight strech he pushed himself off the ground and walked towards his adopted grandaughter.

"We should be moving on. I smell man..."

Quitely he said it; but it was with speed and deterimance that he delieved the message. Though on once paw he did feel horrible for having to wake the other. She slept so peacefully. But man was prehaps a more urgent issue then had it been a bear.

Right when the little femme was about to pounce on her unsupecting prey; Patches' warning fluttered into her sleeping ears. Groggy carmel eyes flew open at the tone in which the warning was spoken.

With scrambling paws to stand up, her over sized feet made the pup fall back to the ground a couple times. Once standing on steady feet, Alina looked up to Patches like a grandchild waiting for instructions.

Though her ears now were filled with the pounding of her anticapting heart. Would these two-leggers have that loud stick and try to hurt them? Where were they? The only scent her untrained twitching nose caught was that of the late deer.

"Where are they?" she asked, feeling like her body had over-reacted to her adopted grandfather's words. The lettering on her sides rippled rapidly with her hastly breathing. I was startled out of sleep. That is the only reason I'm reacting like this. The little dark femme was trying to convince herself of this fact.

Patches moved quickly threw the trees that lay ahead of him only looking back time to time to see if Alina was following. When he reasured himself that she was he only barked back a silent command.

"Follow"

Nothing more nothing less. Only what was needed. His ears swiveled about hearing a crunching sound and slight barking as to where they once stood.
Did they send a tracking party after me? He knew he had only killed one grass eatter but was that enough to encourage the eternal wrath of the two-leggers? Why was his distruction so important? Or was this just how all humans reacted? He shook his head simply not understanding.

Once Patches took off into the brush and trees; Alina made her paws follow his lead. Feeling like it was bad timing to say anything, when she heard the one word from the bi-colored elder in front of her. Dark ears flew back against the small scalp.

Though ears were fairly well pressed to her head, the sound of crunching branches didn't elude her. Clenching her jaw, the femme swallowed back a sudden whimper.

Though concentrating on her paws falling on the ground, it busied the pup's mind so as not to let it wonder. Carmel eyes locked onto the form of Patches. Her heart was now deafening the sound of the two-leggers that were in pursuit of the only being she felt a connection to.

Not wanting to be the cause of the heavy footed two-leggers catching her new grandfather, Alina picked up her pace to run along side of Patches' back left leg. The socked paws not being nearly well trained for stealth in this littered crunchy enviroment, Alina was making more then she even wanted to.

Sencing his grandaughter wasn't as adept at running at he was he had to think of a plan quickly. He could hear the barking and foot steps increasing behind them and knew that the two leggers and thier slaves would be upon them quickly.

"We must not be cornered. If you do it's over."

But Patches knew that they both couldn't run all day, and any cave those chose to hide in would give their sent away to the slaves that trailed them. They also couldn't fight because he was old and the pup was inexperenced. Those two combinations spelled death with any human. Plus the lure of boomboom sticks didn't help. What could they do? He tried to think as his legs were feeling more like a burden under him with age. If he slowed then all hope was lost for both.

Then Patches thought back to something he had heard as a pup. Mythical caves in the reagions that dug deep into the earth themselves. Sometimes these things went on for miles. He didn't believe them- old wives tales probally. But in this region anything was possible. And if he could find this kind of cave it would be to dark for any kind of human to follow, and without humans the slaves were useless. Sure they would follow but without masters they would quickly stop.

"How much longer can you keep up for? I think I might have an idea."

Patches confidently stated spotting what appeared to be a rocky crevas in the earth.

"We are going deep into the earth."

The tough fur around the young femme's neck bristled as the sounds of angry barking filtered into the dark ears. A silent thank you was given from her thoughts for having, at least, rested and fed well. Other wise, Alina didn't even want to think of a fatigued pup running for its life.

One ear shot forward towards her grandfather as he spoke. Being cornered, the mere thought made her shoulders quiver. Alina went to say "Understood" but the only sound that escaped her maw was a weak whimper.

A moment passed and Alina listened as birds fluttered away making the only noise in the woods, that of the pounding paws of the two wolves and their pursuite's lound ruckus. The last thing the young pup had dealt with was an angry Lynx, now that feline was a pebble in the lake of trouble - Alina was figuring out quickly.

When Patches spoke again the ear, that had drifted back, pushed forward. How much longer can I last? That is a good question. Her mind rolled the question around for a second, and then with a slight frown. "I'm not forsure, as long as I don't fall or trip over anything I can last a bit." Alina yipped her response softly, not really wishing to give away their course.

With the resounding confirmation that was spoken, fear and hope both lit up in the carmel eyes. "Deep into the Earth?" soft voice intrigued once more.

The elder nodded as he directed her into the whole first. "I've seen these before...earth caves...they don't go back but down. I've heard some of them are quite maginificent-" He then stopped himself praying this was one of those 'earth caves'. "No matter what happens don't follow me, go as far as you can." The point of asking her to go first was so she could use him as a shield. He still had fight in him and would baracade the entrance until she got far enough away.

He wasn't intending to die though he was going to use his lighting speed to confuse them then when the moment came escape into the hole himself. Although if he did die at least the humans would be pleased not quite knowing there was a pup about. "Go." He said making his command quick and procise. There he would stand at the entrance fangs beared and feet ready to test what he was really made of. Alls he would have to do was deter the dogs...Humans could never follow where they were going. Even there Boomboom sticks were powerless threw the earth and rock.

Coming to an abrupt stop before the entrance way of a cave, Alina looked towards her grandfather. What was he thinking? she pondered an ear focused on the elder, the other focused towards the sound of nearing barkings.

When the elder stood before her explaining the hole in the ground, the young hershey femme listened closely. The tone that was being used scared the young one's heart, but Alina already had learned the seriousness to be in her new grandfather's voice.

"Go as far as I can, then wait for you?" voice quick and firm as the off-white maw moved and added the second part. This pup wouldn't accept the idea of being left alone for a second time. Especially after finding another that had accepted her.

An off-white/creme colored paw shakingly moved forward, "Don't take to long..." a pause, "Grandpa." Alina softly wuffed, then obeyed the elder's words, right as a loud pow echoed fourty-yards away. Though she hopped up and licked the bottom of Patches chin as socked paws clicked into the depths below.

Twenty feet into the mouth of the cave, rock like stairs weaved downwards. A sweet scent of water also met the young black nose as it twitched, along as the smell of something not so sweet. Crickets chirped in the depths as more careful paws moved lower through the darkness. The carmel eyes adjusting to compesate for the lack of light in the descent.

Of course Patches would never leave his charge alone. "I will be right behind you, grandaughter." He smiled and watched her race into the hole. It was lucky because the dogs had shown up just at that point. The men were still to far behind; and with that luck wouldn't shoot because they didn't want to kill their slaves. Patches knew this and smirked.

'Wha'chu gawkin' at ol' man?' The lead dogs barked at him mockingly.

"The fact that you underestimate me."

The lead smirked, "Oh really, I underestimated you? Well then me and my pack will make sure that we make your death- and the pup following you painful."

Patches growled when they threatened his grandaughter- he was one thing, but she was another. He was rather glad at this moment she was no where to witness this fight.

As the lead barked out another chuckling laugh and called the others closer the elder launched himself on the one in front, his teeth quickly bearing into the other ones and with a crunching sound began to snap the other dogs neck. Which in turn caused all the others to wimper and cower away towards the humans that kept them.

The lead still wasn't dead yet and took a swing at the elders side causing a gash on his chest and ribs. With the bleeding continueing from each heart beat the elder just smirked.

"Bad choice."

But instead of killing him the elder who didn't believe in violence just simply lifted him off the ground and flung him into a nearby tree. Again the stun didn't kill him just mearly knocked him out.

"If you come after my grandaughter again- I promise I'll kill you."

Then it seamed that his body reverted to his once elderly state without any emotion in his eyes. Limping towards the cave he'd have to find his grandaughter and make sure she was okie. For she was the reason he kept on living.

Panting in the depths of the cave, she had came to a slippery crossover. The water was roaring to loud for Alina to have heard anything that had occured on ground level. Instead she had moved a hundred yards through the unknown territory.

Ears pinned back to her dark skull in frustration. Water was lapping over the rocks, too quickly, for any creature to pass over safely. So huge dialated pupils in the carmel eyes search the creaves in the walls of the cave. There had to be another way to continue on her path that was less dangerous.

A rouge bat clicked its jaws above the femme's head. Looking upwards she growled at the furry brown thing hanging above. Wings unfold in a mockery to the pup below from it's safe perch on the cave's ceiling.

Then with a swooping dive the flying vermine took off out of the way Alina had came from. "Good ridance," she barked after the creature before continueing her search and spotting the darker spot into the southern wall - only to find it as a small dead ended crawl space.

Patches limped downwards threw the tiny crevas's his ears constantly swiviling backwards in case any rouge dog didn't get his message from before. It was then that the cave split open into a giant watery crevas. Even to him it was quite haunting. That and all the bat gwano didn't help. He shook his head the smell of that and his own blood didn't effect his nose to positivily.

With a fustrated sigh he couldn't even use his speed and agility to his advantage here; it was just to dark. Curses he'd never find his grandaughter down here. And with his sides still bleeding from the fight he was begining to feel feight. Though Patches was the type to never give up. He'd search for Alina with his dying breath if he had to, but that was Patches. He would never give up on family.

It was with luck though that a bat with Alina's sent had flown close to him. The only one that didn't reak of Gwano if he had to add to himself mentally. As Patches limped on he began to call out to the one he loved so much. "Grandaughter...it is safe to come out now." But he couldn't hear anything but his own echo.

In side of the fridged creaves, also gwano free - too small for the bats to likings. Dark ears swivled as a voice came over the roar of the river. Popping up the dark head peared out of her hiding spot.

"Grandfather?" She beaconed out searching through the shroud of darkness in the air. A darker shadow on the far wall only visible from the way the little hairs on her neck stood up. There was someone there, that much she was positive of. Inching out of her stick free spot, the dark femme moved along the untouched walls.
PostPosted: Sat May 05, 2007 6:34 pm

The elder moved deeper into the cave trying to find his grandaughter but the further he went the most lost he became. He tried to use his keen sences but because of all the gwano and the roar of the river he couldn't hear anything.

"I won't lose you!"

He said shoving his face to the ground into the most unplesant of substances. If he had to search the rest of his life to find her he would do that. Shaking his head as he couldn't pick up anything he wished that bat with Alina's sent was above him yet again. At least she would be in close range...but nothing. Just bat poop. He sighed. This was a stupid idea to come down here. Yes the hunters would never find them; but he feared he'd never find the one he cared so much for again.

"ALINA!!!"

He yelled out at the top of his lungs with a sad howl at the end. Maybe she would bark back and find him?

Ears twitching the low howl was barely heard over the rush of water. Moving towards the center of the room, off-white paws became sticky with the gushy substance squeezing between her toes.

"Never should have came down here," she complained to herself. "GRANDPA!" she howled weakly noticing the red eyes above her head lock on to her.

"HELP!" she yelped as slowly one by one the little flying rats took flying swoops at the dark ruckus making form darting below them. Don't ever run on slippery crap even if you are tring to save you life, especially in the dark. The corner of the cave floor plummetted and unable to stop herself, the hershey pup went airborn momentarly.
