Very nice. Now, I just have a quick question. What would you personally recommend along the lines of an inking pen and good markers for someone on a budget? I don't ink often because I suck at it, and I need a brand of marker that doesn't do that bleeding in/overlayering crap other cheap markers do. I need a brand that gives me a nice, solid color, with an inking pen that's good for people with an unsteady hand.

Ack!;; So sorry for the late answer, I was sure I had already replied to you. ^^;;;;;;

Anyway... hmmmm. A budget, huh? Well, all decent inking pens cost pretty much the same.. about $2.50-4 is usually the range. And you'll only need a few of those, so I wouldn't worry about the cost. :3 Also, all of the pens I mentioned in the tutorial are water/markerproof, so no worries. ^__~ (It's always good to test new pens first, though.)

And as for having an unsteady hand... I'd probably go with a felt-tipped pen, like Sakura Microns or Deleter or Copic Multiliners. They don't slide as easily as a ball-point pen, so you can better control where they go, and you can press harder than you would be able to with a fountain pen.

And for markers, the new(ish) Copic Ciao ones would be my first recommendation. They're about $3.90 each. (Regular Copics are usually around $5 each) the only difference between them and the other Copics is that they're a bit smaller, (so they run out faster, but that's no problem if you buy refills, which last for years and years) and they don't work with the Copic airbrush system. Neopiko markers by Deleter are $3.50, but you can't get refills or new nibs for them, so if you plan to use your markers often, the Ciaos would be cheaper in the end. ^^ And to get them even cheaper, you could try Ebay or go to http://www.dickblick.com. :3

I hope that helps. And I hope you see it. Sorry. 9__9;;

Hey! This is great!
I've always wondered though...how do you make the pens darker?
Do you just go over it with a black one?

I have a quick question:

What type of paper is best to use for someone on a tight budget? I've heard people say cardstock but I don't know what that is or where to get it...

The pens? I'm sorry, I don't think I quite understand... do you mean the markers, or the inking? ^-^;

Hmmm... the paper I use (Deleter doujinshi paper) is cheap compared to most. But really, all you need is some paper that's thick enough to obsorb the ink. :3 So... even thick printer paper may work. Or sketchbook paper or something. Maybe you could try out a few types and see what you like.. I haven't really tried too many kinds. (Maybe I will so that I have a better answer for this sort of question in the future. XD;; ) But yeah.. anything that's thick enough should be fine.

This is a nice tutorial and I don't want to take away from that or anything but you might want to take out the suggestion of highlighting with white-out, as your original will look like garbage in five years. It's a trade-off, it's like people starting oil paintings with a first wash of acrylic because it dries so much faster, but you wouldn't want one of your signature pieces done this way. A lot of shortcuts are taken in commercial art which usually are on the side of speed, at the expense of life of the original.
