Serge scratched the back of his head in thought. How did one go about making a shelter? "We just need to build something that will stay standing and protect us on three sides and cover our heads of course..."
He was thinking out loud in all honesty, but it still seemed like a comment. "It'll need to be tied together somehow...I really don't know after that...just has to keep us dry, safe from the wind and not block heat from a fire..."
"Too bad there isn't a cave or anything..." He muttered as he shook his head.

A cave or anything.
Rogue stood up on her branch and glanced back to a spot she had seen earlier, "A cave? ... Ah'm not sure what it is, but Ah see a triangle of darkness..."
Sliding to sit down on the branch again, a smile graced her lips. "It's worth a shot, right?"

Serge looked thoughtful for a moment, but then nodded. "You lead the way." Was all he said before beginning to climb down the tree.

Rogue nodded before climbing down the tree, or jumping down the tree. From branch, to lower branch, to around the trunk, to the ground.
Brushing herself off, she looked at Serge and grinned "Alrighty, but if Ah get us lost, don't blame meh, I'm not sure if it was a cave or a couple broken trees." With that said, she waited for Serge to start walking before she began to lead the way.
"So Serge, do ya have any brothers or sisters?" She asked, trying to keep the two from becoming silent. Silence was alright, but she'd rather talk to keep her mind off the situation at hand.

Serge nodded as he reached the ground and began toward Rogue. "Two brothers and one sister." He commented. "Riku, Glenn and Hinata."
"What about you?" He returned the question, canting his head to the side curiously. A habit he picked up from his father.

"Well, Ah have an older sister, Zukin. She's got a devil-like appearance, next down in Minerva, she's a witch and just a bit older than mahself. Then Ah have a brother named Mitsurugi who wants to be a samurai, meh, and an 'item' called Azurill."
She loved her family, especially talking about them. Except for Azurill, she didn't really understand the whole item thing... not that that was important now.

Serge nodded to that. He understood the item thing only because of the fact Riku had been one, and thus made sure to explain it to Glenn, Hinata and him.
"It sounds like this Mitsurugi and my brother Glenn would get along just fine...he's bent on because the best swordsmen there is, for what reason I don't know...even went so far as to carve a wooden sword to practice with."

Rogue smiled "Really? Mitsurugi needs friends, maybe when we get back we can make them meet each other or something!"
Up ahead around twenty minutes of walking later lay a cave, as long as they kept on going straight ahead they would have the best shelter in the whole forest.

"Maybe..." Serge said with a nod. "Glenn would likely look at him as a rival as well though."
With that last comment, Serge changed the subject, keeping the small talk going, but never stay long on one subject. Just anything to keep from thinking about the current situation.
He made a point to pick up and dry wood he saw on the ground along the way though. If it was a cave, this would make things easier.

"Mitsu too, most likely. But they'd have fun, they just wouldn't admit it." She said with a grin.
It didn't take much longer to reach the cave, especially with all the small talk. She didn't even notice in the beginning when Serge started to pick up wood.
"Here, gimme some, Ah'll help carry it." She offered as she held out her arms for him to place the wood.
"Do ya know how to start a fire by rubbin' two sticks together? 'Cause Ah don't have that talent." She admitted somewhat-shyly.

Serge handed over some of the wood, but kept collecting more, till the reach the small clearing, where indeed, there was a cave. Looking over to her as she asked about the two sticks he almost let an amused snort out.
"That..." He said with an amused smile. "Is actually one of the hardest ways there is to make a fire and actually succeed." Heading over the to the mouth of the cave, he set down the wood and looked over to Rogue. "I'll show you the easiest way I know though." He said smiling.
The sun was thankfully at their backs at the moment, allowing for a full view into the empty cave. It's wasn't overly deep, or extremely tall, but rather about perfect. It went in about five yards, and the ceiling was about seven feet high at the highest, the mouth actually only about five.
It was wide enough to be roomy as well. Ducking into the cave after picking the fire wood back up, Serge stepped back out and looked at the grass, finding the spot it was driest, and pulling as much of it as possible.
"Alright, this should be everything I need to start a good fire." He nodded strongly.

Putting all the wood she was carrying on the ground on top of Serge's pile, she simple stood there and watched him go back out to grab some grass.
She moved back a bit before sitting down, well at least she was going to learn something out of this whole experience. "So how do you know how to build a fire? Do you go camping?" She asked with a smile as she watched his actions.
She was glad at least one of them knew what they were doing, it was going to be dark soon, and with the dark came the cold.
The cold was one thing Rogue could not stand well, being a typical southerner.

"Camping...?" Serge questioned before shaking his head. "No...but when your father is something that's often viewed as a spirit of fire with good reason...you learn fast how to start and stop them."
Setting the grass in a pile where he planned to start the fire, Serge grabbed two stones from by one of the caves walls, and hit them together a few time, chipping pieces of each off.
Soon he got it to do what wanted, taking off a large, shard piece from one of the stones. "Perfect..." Grabbing it, he picked up one of the larger pieces of wood and began shaving it into the pile of grass. After a bit, he stopped shaving the wood, and went back to the stones. "We're luck to have good rocks for this...it can truthfully be done with almost any kind of rock, but...these will work better than most."
Using one of the larger, but still dull piece he'd broken off before, and one of the still mostly complete stone, he began striking them together a little above with the piece of shaved wood on top of the tender pile.
It only took about three strikes to get the result he wanted, and with a little light blowing and proper coaxing, Serge had the tender burning, and was adding smaller piece of wood, and then progressively larger pieces till the fire was going well.
Looking to the wood they'd collected on the way to the cave, he nodded. "That should be enough to keep it going for tonight, and maybe into the morning a little tomorrow."

"Really?... That's kinda cool." She said with a smile as she continued watching him and what he was doing.
"Wait a second, Ah think Ah get it... are those rocks called 'Flint' or somethin'?" She remembered Minerva telling her something about that, from one of her big books of knowledge that she never paid attention to. She was starting to regret those mini lessons right about now.
"Ah sure hope so... Ah don't like the cold." She stated simply. She really didn't. When the cold came in, she got sick, or weary, or just shakey all the time. It wasn't fun.

"I wish!" Serge actually snorted out as he enjoyed the warmth of the fire. "I'd have had it on the first strike if they were." He added shaking his head. "They are a type of sparking stone though...I just can't remember what father called them...he has some at the shop...uses them all the time to start up the fire place there, says it's cheaper than matches, and less draining the magic."
"You think your family is worried about you?" He asked, suddenly deciding to change the subject.
