Yes Dras we are in one of the guilds many 'fluff periods'. That's why I haven't been posting...

And what kind of crazy doesn't believe in Karma? I'm right here for crying out loud!!!

Well, then post counter-fluff, not just leave until it goes away. You call yourself a mod, Karma, or shall I say General Benedict Karma.

sweatdrop Thing is...nobody does anything to stop it they just say the person is wrong and the person is usually stubborn if they believe in fluff and I HATE arguing with people that won't admit when they might be wrong...

You want them to back down when it becomes more "obvious" that they are wrong, or might be. Would you be just as willing to back down?

The problem with the whole scenario is proof. Unless they prove themselves in front of you, it is not valid proof. Even then, it is still not valid proof.

Call it fluff, call it crap, call it right, call it wrong. It doesn't matter, as it can't be proven. There is so little one can genuinely do to prove anything, except some of our most basic scientific ideas (which have been falling under question in the past few years).

I say why bother insisting that something is wrong? If it works for them then it "obviously" has to be right, right? Or if it doesn't work, their will either be a period of disillusionment, and they will go to something else, or they will leave it all entirely.

Post what you can, and maybe someone will pick it up and agree with you. Others won't.

Some people may also post fluff for attention. In another guild, I've seen someone post the most insane story complete with moonbeams and sparkles. People tried to use reason and common sense against it, but she kept changing her story and refused to admit she was even remotely mistaken. She wouldn't answer questions or even admit some of her previous posts.

When people want attention, they're not going to back down unless they are ignored. If you come in with some good counter arguments, then they'll just use that as a way to get even more attention.

Very true. In another guild I was in, a girl posted a story about a black being with glowing whitish eyes (I think), and claimed she had been burned by it or it left a rash or something. She also claimed to have gone to the hospital about these marks, and the doctors couldn't find anything. She kept going on about it, and how much help she needed. I suggested sulfur burns, perhaps an allergic reaction, but she kept insisting that it wasn't it. It was one of the most active threads, because it was really the first major issue (I've been with that guild since the start). But I suppose she got the attention she was looking for, because eventually she just stopped posting in the guild, though she would still log on to her account. So either the thing killed her and someone's been logging on to her account, or she's full of s**t and an attention whore.

And anyone can attempt to prove someone wrong. Logic and reasoning can prove just about anything, it's the fallacies, overanalyzing and misinterpreting that you've got to watch out for. Still, you can create a bulletproof argument for just about everything if you put your mind to it. Perceptions are all that matters. You can doubt yourself, sure. But someone fighting to prove you wrong is only going to make you more defensive about it, whether you're aware of it or not.

Hah, hah, hah. stare So smart.

Anywho, um... In your first post, you said you can "kick their a** verbally or bodily". It was something along those lines. You can't. It's against all the morals of the Wiccan religion, which I think is the main religion here. (I think.)

Every last of the only three rules. 1 Don't hurt overs. 2 The three fold rule. 3 No self gain by magick!

So yeah... You can't. Let it go and push forward. On the other hand, all the people yelling: "I need a spell!!!!!!!!!!" Probably don't know how to make a circle. *snickers* The spells, if correct, though that's a far jump, won't work properly.

I find this extremly funny because I'm most likely younger and know how to prepare and carry through the circle. Hah, hah! And again, if they go and make self gain... Against the only three rules there are. I mean, c'mon guys? How hard is it to respect three little rules that you should live by anyway?

I also want to point out the fact magick isn't for "******** around with". That's childish and ignortant. But also extremly dumb and amazingly messed up. You could die doing a potion the wrong way because you were "******** around". And it, Wicca, is a self-respecting religion. You wouldn't throw all the holy water around in the church in the middle of serivce, would you?

No! So don't do it with Wicca, which is what you are doing!

I'm going to have to disagree with your point that the predominant religion here is Wicca. I am not Wiccan, and I know quite a few people are of other religions. So, technically, I could do all the verbal and/or physical a**-kicking, since I'm not Wiccan, and those rules don't mean a whole lot to me. That's not to say I don't care about them, I just don't feel the same need to adhere to them. And the third dosen't really apply to me anyway.

And if the whole rant about "don't ******** around with magick" was directed as me, you've misread my point, and, in turn, made my point for me. So thank you. And if it was just an agreement, then good job.

On a side note, I really feel compelled now to walk into a church service and procede to exorcise the entire congregation. Just because you could practically taste the irony in the air. Especially here in the Bible Belt, where 3/4 Christians are hypocrites, and social cliques are defined by denomination. Religion is a social prerogative, not a spiritual one. But yeah, I'm way too bitter about this. I'll stop now.

I'm going to have to side with Dras here. The majority of people in this guild aren't Wiccan. There are psionics, chaos magicians, otherkin, etc. None of these feel particularly loyal to the Wiccan rede.

I personally can't stand the rede. If you want to follow it, then fine. Follow it. Just don't whine at others when they do things that you may find "wrong". Also, those "three little rules" aren't the greatest thing ever. I hate when a religion tells me how to live my life without any knowledge of my culture, history, or personality. Hence why I'm spiritual and not religious. Those three little rules would have you surrender yourself and your loved ones without a fight. Many people (like myself) don't let people push us or our loved ones around. We fight back. We'll do things to ******** someone up if they hurt someone we care about. By saying that the rede is something that we should all live by is ignorant and even a trite selfish.

As an aside - which branch of Wicca, aside from the Charmed version, has the maxim of "No personal gain through magick"? Doesn't that suggest that it's immoral to make any spiritual or material progress in magick?

I think by personal gain it means monetary gain. Most groups, wicca or not, will try and say something about that...

I know, I know! I'm just going with guidlines. And... My friend said that most people in the guide were Wiccan and I just didn't feel like being flooded wirth logic. That was wrong.

I was making a point to the one who said "magick's for ******** around with". Not you, sorry. I need to make things clearer in my posts. xp And, on the last note, I'm bitter about religion too. I hate how most of the Catholics (in my communitee) go and preach love and harmony then growl at the gay kid. It's wrong and I know it!

...Sorry... Ranting... sweatdrop

Ah, I see. I just analyze things too much, really. But I've found the Baptists to be worse than the Catholics. One of my best friends is Catholic (and we have quite a few talks about religion and such), but I have yet to meet a Baptist who I've found to be tolerable. Or at least that I know of...

I can't stand Baptists. My hometown was full of them. Methodists will at least act nicely to your face (usually). The Christianish sect I can't stand the most is Jehova's Witnesses. They literally preach intolerance and if their children needed blood transfusions to live then they'd rather have the kid die. My mom (whose a doctor) had to be a witness in many cases where they had to take the child out of the JW parent's custody in order to save its life.

To interject with a joke...

What do you get when you cross a Unitarian and a Jehova's Witness?
