The second Rage dashed forward to help Owle, he was immediately sent flying into the air by a very large, very heavy, very fast Athan. Landing feet-first a few seconds later, he stumbled slightly from his unexpected trip but really didn't lose his composure in the slightest.
"Owle, I know we talked about this and all, but I thought we agreed that talking to strangers offering you candy was a no-no," said Rage, his eyes locked with the girl's assailant. His hands formed claws, his stance widening and with his left leg toward his opponent. His right tensed up slightly.
"C'mon, bud. Let's tango."

"I didn't talk to him! He jumped at me!" Owle protested, nerves too shot to realize Rage must be joking.

He slowly pushed himself up on to his feet, his nose still sniffing at the winds, and a smile finally playing out on his stained face. He seemed slightly calmer now, or at the very least, he wasn't crying anymore. His eyes locked onto Rage's hand, the one that had been injured punching the wall earlier, and again his tongue flicked out, licking his lips.
He started toward Rage, he hardly looked like a warrior. In fact, the way he was walking, you'd think he was going on a stroll to pick up his mail. Arms were down, his body relaxed, no real defense to his stance. He was hunched forward slightly, taking his sweet time approaching Rage.

C'mon. Just a little closer. Just a little bit more, and... now!
Waiting until the creature was within about two arm lengths or so, Rage kicked off with his back right leg and started dashing towards the thing, throwing his left shoulder forward in a block tackle. It would be easier that way - pin the thing to the ground and finish it off with a sword or two. Easy.
That's the way he saw it, anyways.

Owle had decided to let Rage handle it, at this point. Unless it looked like he was having trouble, or she saw an easy opening, she was content to stay about six feet away from the big guy at all times.
She did, however, start circling around to the side.

Wham. The guy didn't even try to dodge Rage. Not that it looked like a tub of lard like him could. No, he stook there and took it, right in the gut.
It probably was a strange sensation for Rage. There didnt' seem to be much resistance there. He seemed to absorb the blow fully, even as Rage's shoulder sunk more than a few inches into his gut.
His right hand snapped out towards Rage's right arm, his large sausage like fingers trying to clamp down on his upper arm, and, if he got a good grip, hauling it upwards, away from the ground.
His left hand came up, pressing against the back of Rage's head, trying to keep it away from his arm.

Arcturus Highwind His right hand snapped out towards Rage's right arm, his large sausage like fingers trying to clamp down on his upper arm, and, if he got a good grip, hauling it upwards, away from the ground. His left hand came up, pressing against the back of Rage's head, trying to keep it away from his arm. ... which is exactly what Rage figured this guy might do. Considering how he had grabbed Owle earlier, Rage figured the creature would do the same thing to him. He was right, although he wasn't expecting the sponginess of the thing. Without a delay, Rage snapped his eyes shut, an intent look across his face. The air around him started to warm. In fact, not just the air, but his entire body, particularly his arm, shoulder, and head. And it would keep getting hotter, and hotter, and hotter... unless this thing was impervious to pain (which it probably wasn't, due to it's reaction to Owle's strike), it would have to let go or at least back off. In the meantime, his left hand snaked down to the black hilt of his side-mounted katana....

He started screaming again before too long. Whatever he was, it seemed he couldnt' deal with even minor heat. Rage didn't even need to kick his powers onto full blast before he finally let go and tried to get away. He rolled over towards his right, bringing up his hands to shield his face from the heat as he stumbled away from Rage. It looked like part of his clothes were smoldering, or at least, there were bits of smoke rising off them.
He was sniffing again, his shoulders racked with sobs, and his voice letting out strangled cries. He was stumbling around blind, keeping his hands in front of his face.

And Owle backed off further from the guy, as quickly as she could. She needed a few more feet, and then...
She started running towards his side.
It would probably be sometime after he released Rage that Owle would jump, her arms out before her, aiming for the big guy's head. In mid air she would shift into the twenty pound ball of armored scales we all knew and loved.
Because all Owle saw was Rage being held, and not really doing much about it.

"Sorry, bud," said Rage, watching the man for a second or two. "But when you mess with my family...." He ran forward, the click of his katana popping out of it's sheathe piercing the air. "You mess with ME!"
Assuming the creature was still too dazed to do much else but stumble around, Rage figured he should have a pretty clear shot at slicing this thing clean - he drew the blade from his left hip to his right shoulder in a reverse grip, hoping to catch the thing in much the same way. In other words, he was making what would widely be considered a right-handed attack using his left hand by holding the blade backwards.
If his attack was successful, he'd go for the classic pose - kneeling, facing away from his foe with his blade still in the odd grip, so that his arm was crossing his body with his hand against his neck, blade facing out.

He was caught helpless. Owle slammed into his head, sinking in much the same way that Rage did. While there might have been a skull in there to bash, it was deep under all his armor, doing little to him other than knocking him off balance.
Just in time for Rage's blade to catch him just above the hip bone. The katana cut in clean enough, going in deep into the man. It was slowing down however, whatever squishy material that resisted Rage's tackle seemed to be stealing the momentum of the cut.
Not that it did him much good. The blade hit the spine, and stopped, its momentum gone. The man's mouth opened up in a scream, but nothing came out but a slight whimper.
He keeled over, falling with the direction of the cut, the blade stuck in his body as he hit the ground. One last gurgle, and the man stopped moving, sprawled out on the street.

Not quite how he would have liked it, but hey, Rage wasn't that picky when it came to killing people. He didn't have time to savor his victory, however, as a giant ball of scales nearly fell on him he rolled to his right. That seemed almost too easy... was it really the end? Something just didn't seem quite right to him, but who was he to say?
Getting up to his feet and dusting himself off, he gave the creature a quick kick to the ribs to see if there was a reaction. "Don't get misty-eyed on me, Owle... he deserved what he got. You okay?"

The kick was absorbed much the same way as Rage's tackle. Might even had swallowed his foot, if he had pushed in just a little more with it. However, there was no response from the body. Not even a cry.
((Yes, if you bother to check, mind sigs, aura sense, pulse, whatever, he's dead.))

The girl shifted back, uncurling from the fetal ball she found herself in. Shakily, she stood up...staring wide-eyed in horror at the corpse. "You...you killed him?"
And his words finally penetrated. "Well, yeah, I guess, but...couldn't you have knocked him out and brought him to a prison or something?"
Hesitantly she started towards the corpse, taking deep breaths to keep herself calm. This didn't feel right, he'd seemed like an innocent man...even if he had attacked her like an animal.
"...I need to get my knives."

Maybe it was where they had differed in thoughts and values. And it wasn't like Rage was going to say he wasn't trying to kill them. They were nearly cut in half - that really didn't justify self-defense.
Rage made a quick downward stroke with his katana to remove some of the excess blood before putting the blade back in it's place with a click. He really didn't have anything to say. People gotta die sometime, right? And he wasn't sure this thing was even human... but....
"... an honorable man would have died as he had lived...."
He wasn't sure if Owle had heard him, but his point was clear - he felt justified in what he did. "I told you nobody messes with my family...."
He gave the corpse one final kick before walking over to Owle.
