Hester and Jen's act was composed mainly of Hester singing and Jen dancing, occassionally trading off, and sometimes singing or dancing together. They were two very beautiful young girls, and Hester obviously had at least a little elf in her. It seemed to captivate all the young men in the crowd the way they danced in their flowing gown-like costumes. But it seemed almost too soon that their performance was done, and they both slipped off of the stage to the applause.
Terak sprang back onto the stage, clapping his performance-worn hands and beaming, "Beautiful! Beautiful! Two of the finest ladies yet to be found. But next up we have a great feat of skill and strength. Gren, our strongest and most able-bodied performer, with one of the most brave, or foolhardy, ladies I've ever known!" He did a quick somersault backward and disappeared off the back of the stage, allowing Gren to make his way onto the stage.
Gren was a giant of a man, more than likely part gian at any rate, and well muscled. He wore a plain linen shirt, unlaced around the neck, and regular brown trousers. It was either because he didn't need to look flashy to attract attention, or because a man of his size could find no colorful costumes. Either could be true, but neither answer really mattered in the time that followed.
Caprice took a breath, then jumped up on the side of the stage and did a short series of handsprings to the center, having shed the long flowy parts of her costume in favor of the streamlined garment beneath them. The pinks and oranges rendered her a bright flurry of color as she reached the middle of the stage, only to be promptly scooped up by Gren and tossed into an aerial somersault. She hadn't done this act in a while, but her body remembered. It lent itself naturally to the twisting and turning in mid-air, and she tucked her body in as she came back down. Gren caught her once more, and she extended her body again to use his arm as a sort of bar to spin around.
It took only a flick of that same arm to send the feline girl skyward again, this time spinning like a top, stretched out from head to toe, then tucking in on herself and coming back down on her feet, only to execute a backflip. The large man grabbed her ankles and swung her in nearly a full circle, and tossing her above him once more, where she tucked back into a ball and fell toward the stage to be caught in Gren's arms. He flipped her out of his grasp backward and she landed on her feet, stepping to the side for a moment as Gren picked up three moderately sized ale kegs and began to juggle them effortlessly. This break was to showcase his strength and skill, as well as to give Caprice a short break before going back into the difficult routine...

Kushin watched intently, not at the show but at the crowd that had gathered, as well as the immediate area around the stage. He would be alert for any sign of danger. Kushin didn't agree with the two, as wanted as they are, to publicly display themselves like this, but they were set on doing it and he had no authority to tell them otherwise.
He sighed and looked over to Kireen, who seemed to him to be watching the show closely. He pulled out a couple of gems and rolled them around in his hand, as was a nervous habit of his. At least if there was trouble, he'd be prepared.

Xirai was extremely impressed with the show Caprice and Gren were putting on. The man's skill and speed were impressive for someone so large. He was also very impressed with Caprice's gymnastic skill. Watching her was like watching a bird in flight.
Kireen watched the two acts silently, but she was impressed as well. There weren't many performers who could do so well, and she knew it. I'll have to go meet them, I think. The whole troupe. She thought as Gren began juggling the ale kegs.

Caprice took a deep breath, watching Gren plunk down two of the barrels onto the stage, keeping the other in his free hand, and tossing it up and down. This was her cue... she dashed forward and did a handspring, accompanied by a somersault, the end of which landed her on the man's free arm. He tossed her high into the air, as well as the keg he didn't put down. Caprice twisted her body in the air, watching the keg enough to curver her self over it in the middle of the arc, coming down to Gren's opposite arm. She performed the bar-like maneuver again, but this time she was deftly tossed underneath when the barrel went flying again. She reached the opposite arm, and was then vaulted into the air along the same path as the keg. This "juggling" continued until she had gone through the circuit four times, then the keg was put down and Caprice twisted in mid-air, coming straight down to be caught in the middle by both of Gren's arms. Her feet landed in his palms, and he gave her a large boost to send her higher than she had yet gone.
This was the part she had been worried about. The last few parts of the routine sent her farther into the air than the rest... She sighed softly, then flicked her body into a tight twist, then a somersault on the way down toward the stage again. Gren's large hands caught her, and let her spin slightly, then reversed the rotation with his own grip, and hurled the tiny woman back into the sky. Caprice reached forward and wrapped her arms around her legs, pointing her feet forward as she twirled in the air. As she came down, she was caught in Gren's arms, then gripped again by the ankles and sent her flying into the air one last time. This twist was tight, and the highest yet, then she came down and grabbed the huge man's arm, spinning around it once before landing, feet first on the stage and taking a quick bown... and remained bowed for quite a few seconds as she caught her breath.
Terak climbed up onto the stage from the side and ran out into the middle while Gren scooped Caprice up dramatically and carried her offstage like a prop (which was part of the fun), "Ladies and gentlemen! That was Gren and one of our visiting performers, Caprice! One of the most amazing juggling acts you are likely to ever see! And now we'll take a minute and bring you a brief tale from our very own Soren!" He gestured and backed away toward the rear of the stage as the gangly youth from before came onto the stage with a small harp, and in traditional bard's clothing.

Xirai was extremely impressed by the whole performance, and clapped as loud as anyone in the audience at it's conclusion. He had known Caprice was a good acrobat, but this was truly spectacular. As the giant of a man brought Caprice down from the stage, Xirai waved cheerily. "That was amazing! I knew you were good, but I didn't expect that!"

Caprice perked her ears and glanced over at Xirai, but once Gren set her down, she stumbled, still dizzy from the act. She reached out and grabbed the half-dragon's arm and panted, nodding, "Thank you... Haven't tried that in over a year..." She didn't even care that she had started to lean on Xirai for stability, her body was stationary, but she felt like the world was spinning. The only time in her life she was ever this dizzy was after performing that act, "Dizzy... I think I need to sit down..." She chuckled halfheartedly, still breathing deeply.

Keeping Caprice upright wasn't much of a task, she didn't weigh much, so Xirai carefully guided her to a nearby tree where she could sit down. "Well then, let's get you sitting down, missy. There's no sense in you falling over and injuring yourself after that act." More than that, though, Xirai wanted to make sure she didn't fall over and injure herself because he cared about her.
As Caprice and Gren stepped off the stage, Kireen got up and flitted around the audience to join them. As she arrived, Xirai was just helping Caprice sit down without injuring herself. Looking the big man up and down, she decided she could trust him, and spoke. "That was fantastic!"

Caprice nodded dizzily, and let herself be led by Xirai... it was nice to have someone there to keep her from tripping all over herself after that performance. "Thank you Xirai... That always leaves me dizzy and tired... but all I have to do after this is play a song on my penny whistle..." She smiled a bit, leaning her head back against the tree and focusing on something stationary.. which happened to be Xirai... "I'm glad you liked it... it's probably the hardest performance I can do..." She smiled, taking a deep breath, as her vision stopped spinning slowly...
Gren was using his arms to lift the twins up and down as they held on, but when a fox started to talk to him, he jumped and stared... "Uh... thanks..." He smiled nervously, "Sorry but... what are you? I never met a talking fox before..."

Kireen turned to face Gren, then changed her form into a female replica of Xirai, with golden fur instead of white. "I am not a fox. I am a dragon." She said, simply. Looking the man up and down. "And you... You are larger than any human I've seen before... But you're quite fast with your hands despite that. Very impressive."
Only glancing at Kireen for a moment, Xirai laughed. "You'll want to be careful with her, Gren. She can be feisty. I'd know, she's my sister." Turning back to look down at Caprice, he smiled warmly. "Well you did a wonderful job of it, and I'm looking forward to hearing that song. I always liked music."

Gren's jaw dropped and he gaped for a moment, "A dragon huh? I heard there was a half-dragon in the show today, but I figured that was about all we'd see of dragons..." He chuckled, a large noise despite the quiet nature of the sound itself. "Thanks for the compliment though, ma'am... Terak's father taught me how to juggle when Terak and I were just kids. But Caprice just sort of got into it by accident one day, when I grabbed her instead of a sack of grain..." He laughed and scratched his head, remembering how the idea of that act had come about, "Believe it or not I didn't realize the different until she yelled..."
Caprice smiled, blushing brightly, "Well, I probably won't sing, but it should be a nice quiet nuber..." She sat up a little bit and reached up to brush her hair out of her face, glad she'd braided her hair, so she could actually go without brushing it before her last piece... "But I think it's about time for me to go back up there..." She stood, stretching, and grateful that her dizziness was long gone, "Thanks for the help Xirai... I'll be watching when it's your turn..." She patted his arm softly, then trotted up toward the stage to wait for her cue...
Soren played a final chord on his harp, repeating the last part of his tale and taking a bow for the applause. It had been a great story, but no one back stage had been able to pay attention to it.
Terak ran out into the middle of the little stage and grinned, "Thank you Soren! That was one of the best renditions of Grenthaw and the Tunneling Gnomes I've heard in a long time! We're going to start the last half of our show tonight with a musical piece played by Caprice!" He gently bowed, then backed away to the edge of the stage, just away from plain sight.

Xirai smiled to himself, then followed Caprice so he could watch from near the stage. He just couldn't get enough of watching the little woman. He wasn't sure what it was that drew him to her, but whatever it was, that pull was strong.
Glancing at Gren's hands, Kireen giggled. "I can imagine how you wouldn't. That girl doesn't look like she weighs much more than a sack of grain does." She liked this Gren, he was a good man, and she could tell he intended to stay that way. "Is that the only act you do with the troupe? Or do they have you juggling other people?"

Gren chuckled and nodded, "She really doesn't weigh much at all. Bt after that incident, Terak would talk me into tossing her into the air for fun." He grinned broadly, obviously still relishing the way the two of them would get the better of Caprice. "Terak is working with the twins, to see if I can juggle them someday, but for now the only one who can do it is Caprice. Most of the time I'll help haul things, and I can juggle bigger kegs sometimes. And Terak got some armor that I wear for a few of our shows." He ran his large hand over his head, smiling sheepishly at his small involvement with the troupe, "I do feats of strength sometimes too, if we can get the materials, but these days people don't like to watch things broken or bent. With all the tension among the dragons and the humans, they're holding onto their barrels and wagon wheels in case they need them."
Caprice took a deep breath, having pulled on the flowing additions to her costume while Terak made her introduction. She stepped out onto the stage, her penny whistle in hand. After a few quiet moments, she raised the instrument to her lips and shut her eyes, and began to play.
The tune started out simple and slow... and very soft. But gradually it settled into a peaceful song, and Caprice began to sway, her eyes still shut. Before long she was stepping lightly and twirling gently, a small dance to accompany the music.
It was around then that Terak made his move. He stepped silently out onto the stage and placed his hands on Caprice's waist, guiding her through a few very slow turns, careful not to startle her during the performance. Once he was sure she knew of his presence, he dipped her carefully, then raised her up again, flicking his wrist gently to send her into a slow spin, before lifting her into the air. This was a long practiced routine they had once done together. It had been back when they were lovers, and the routine itself was slow and, in the past, very comfortable. The mummers' leaders hands knew their placement on the feline girl's slender waist, and just how high to lift her small form. He smiled inwardly as he supported her through a deliberately slow, well spotted, backward flip, remembering back when things had been simpler...
Caprice's ears did nothing more than twitch when Terak came into the picture. She hadn't expected him, but some part of her wasn't surprised. She knew she had to continue playing, and just let Terak continue the routine. It was important not to disrupt the show simply because things were different than they would now appear. Her best musical piece was the very one they had written the routine for, and Terak was sure to have known that... But this time.. she felt different. Her facade of complete comfort in the taller man's arms was all just that, but Caprice was starting to feel very uncomfortable watching. Xirai was out there watching her! What would he think of this routine that clearly displayed what sort of relationship she and Terak had once had. This piece was romantic, familiar... and it was causing a knot to form in her stomache...
She kept her eyes closed serenely, though, and tried to ignore the rising anxiety in her gut...
The spectacle was truly beautiful to the outside observer, and so captivating that it was unlikely that anyone noticed the blanket of grey clouds that was slowly creeping in over the surrounding area.

Xirai watched as Terak moved on stage, and began the slow dance that clearly illustrated just how deeply the pair had been in love. He knew the dance had come about from long practice, and deep compassion, and he couldn't hold that against Terak. Reaching out with his mind, he lightly touched the minds of both Caprice and the Mummers' leader. 'It's alright. I don't mind. I understand how you used to feel, and I'm happy.' The thought passed to the two of them as it formed in Xirai's head. 'Just make the crowd happy.'
Kireen had noticed the dancing couple now, too, but she was not so calm about it. She made her way angrily to where Xirai was watching from near the stage, but when she tried to ascend the couple of steps to tear the two apart, Xirai placed a hand on her shoulder. Glancing at her brother, she saw a single shake of the head. "But she..." Hissed Kireen in a whisper. Another shake of Xirai's head, and she grumpily sat down to wait for the performance to end.

Gren blinked at Kireen's sudden departure, then walked over to stand beside the two dragons... He kept quiet, though, as to not disrupt the show... but he wondered wether or not Terak would get the response he had wanted when he decided to do this number with Caprice.
Caprice felt Xirai's thoughts... and for the briefest moment, she felt better... but it didn't change the fact that she hadn't wanted Terak to do this... and she had a feeling she knew why he was too... It had been hard for her to leave the troupe before, and Terak had always hinted that he wanted her to return to them, but Caprice had refused. Now he was trying to remind her of what they had once had together... and she wanted nothing more than to disappear.
She didn't though.. and kept playing the song as if nothing were going on. To an outside view, she would appear completely at home in Terak's presence, and the routine itself was meant to display romance, passion, and beauty. That was coming across perfectly.
Terak almost faltered for the briefest second when he felt Xirai... He wasn't sure why the half-dragon would approve... but chalked it up to his not realizing it wasn't simply how the dark haired man had felt, but still wished to feel. He shook off the feeling from Xirai and continued the routine, spotting Caprice in a few more semi-acrobatic maneuvers, though not brief and sterile as they were in practice. His grasp lingered, and once the tiny woman was at the right angle, Terak had an arm securely around her waist, pulling her up against him in a final and lasting dip as the song ended. Then he helped her stand and the two of them bowed to the audience before Caprice exited the stage, pointedly, in the opposite direction from the side Xirai was on.
It was then that Terak noticed that the sky had darkened considerably... and it was beginning to look like rain, "Ladies and gentlemen! It appears the weather will not permit us to complete our show in full, so I'm afraid we will have to skip directly to our final performance! This dashing performer has come from far away to display his prowess in battle, and his skills at shapeshifting.. please welcome our special guest Xirai!" With that, he grabbed the edge of the canopy and gave it a good tug, the slip knots giving way so the whole thing was carried with him as he hopped off the back of the stage.
Gren's eyes widened, then he nudged Xirai, "Looks like you got bumped forward pal... give 'em your best!" He grinned, hoping it wouldn't throw the half-dragon off that he was bumped forward so quickly.
Caprice perked her ears and listened to Terak's change in the plans... and felt the knot in her gut again... Xirai would be on stage... and she did want to watch... so she scurried straight to the costume cart and changed back into her regular clothes before slipping into the back of the crowd to get a look... and hopefully avoid Terak in the process...

Xirai blinked, then looked over at Gren. "Thank you. And I will. I just hope the weather holds out long enough." Pulling his sword out of the ground, Xirai moved right up to the edge of the stage, and forced his mind to empty. He forced himself to concentrate harder than he ever had in his life. Barely, just barely, he could feel the flow of magic there, and he reached out to grasp it. To mold it's strength to his will. With a surge of effort, he forced it to act on his wish, and a flare of white fire appeared, floatinga foot above the middle of the stage, surrounded by glittering shards of light. Using the crowd's amazement to his advantage, he moved onstage quickly, and got behind the flame, which was large enough to conceal him from view until it vanished. Holding his sword before him in both hands, he readied himself, and the flame vanished in an instant, taking the glittering shards with it. That was something he could not have done normally, but letting his emotions go had given him the strength to control magic's flow. Now, as the crowd's eyes focused on him, he began a slow series of excercises, twirling the weapon about himself in both hands, covering every angle, but moving slow enough that the blade remained visible to every eye there.
As the motions continued, Kireen watched from the spot she had stayed after Caprice's act. She knew what Xirai was doing. Working his way through the basic forms, and decided to give him some help. Her anger was enough at the moment that grasping for magic was easy. Focusing on Xirai, she pushed with her mind, and two flickering flames, a foot tall appeared above the stage on either side of her brother. Their light glinting off of his sword as he went through the forms.
