Actually, I wasn't flaming anyone. If you re-read my first post, you'll see I was only trying to understand the point of this thread.

In your first point, you responding constructively. I disagreed, and contended that the situation was not altruistic but capitalistic. And I reiterated that I was was interested in analyzing it further. You responded by saying, "NO ANALYSIS! ANALYSIS BAD!" Then you started bashing heads with your agnostic club of doom.

That, my friend, is called first strike.

Perhaps my use of capital letters was a mistake. But it wasn't intended as an attack. I just don't see the point of analyzing Gaia like that. I mean...how is that fun? It's kinda depressing in my point of view. But, if you wanna analyze, I can't stop you, just disagree with the point of it ^_^.

Anyway, don't worry about the appreciation value. Eventually, once prices have it "rock bottom" they'll start to climb. Hence the whole supply and demand thing. That's about the only thing that really seems to apply here. Gaia doesn't even have an inflation rate...yet. Neopets has one. 2.31% right now...Anyway. I was just saying, in the mean time, with those items whose value doesn't increase again, why not be a little generous, and give them out as gifts. Christmas is just around the corner ^_^

Wait wait!

Deflation??

WHY?

If there wasn't a lot of money around, wouldn't it be inflation?

Why the hell would it be deflation?

I don't want my gold to be worth less! I already have so little gold as it is!

Prices don't decline. That would be impossible unless Lanzer started selling off more of the old donation letter rares. Supply is constant because this donation letters are non-renewable rares. Because they are far more abundant if everyone donates, then more people will have access to them. Demand and supply will find equilibrium at a low market price that can only rise as demand increases (new users come in that want to buy the items or old users start to want the items). Over time, the influx of new users increase demand, and letter prices begin to soar.

Unfortunately, the high supply of letters these months makes return earnings rather minimal. So, high-end investors need to start to find new ways of investing. Otherwise, we'll have to start saving more (and donating less).

That's why it matters to you. If I can't figure out a way to increase my earnings, then you can expect that my charity and friend donations will start to decrease by the same amount. I've donated two expensive things this month because I can't cover my expenses without losing substantial amounts of irretrievable gold.

And it's getting worse.

One way we can solve this issue is by getting more users to join Gaia. We need to promote this site to all of our friends. The more of our friends know about this site, the more of them there will be to drive up demand and the prices of high-end items. As a result, you will make me richer and happier, and much more willing to donate.

What do you say? Will you promote Gaia? Will you seek out new users? For me? 3nodding

If the money supply goes up, it only causes inflation if the amount of commerce stays constant or goes down. If the amount of commerce (people buying and selling) goes up, then an increase in the money supply may either keep prices constant, or there may be either deflation or inflation. If the increase in commerce exceeds the increase in the money supply, then there will be deflation.

Deflation is good for you because it will mean that you will have more purchasing power for every unit of gold. But it's bad because prices will demonstrate the changes, and new purchases will be easier to make, and we'll lose money on all our investments. I'll lose millions in gold.

Millions. I don't want that. Inflation is much better for me. I want more of it. I want your gold to be worth less so I can profit. Is that so bad? xp

You know want my gold. But too bad, I don't have any gold. I spend it as I get it in items. For items increase in value, not gold.

Or so that's how it used to work...

Didn't you say you were a poor Gaian before? Inflation is bad for the poor. Depreciation of gold value is not bloody fun.

Nooooooo....Gold decreases in value as more and more people join Gaia ^_^. Items gain value as more people join Gaia, because they'll want those items, and there'll be fewer of them available, hence, the increase in value of the items, and drop in value of Gold.

You can't have inflation and deflation working for you at the same time, Jovo. Sorry buddy, but that ain't how it works. =p

Absolutely!

Which means that the poor will have trouble buying new items, but the rich will earn millions in selling off investment items they already own.

True. So let me be clear.

For people with millions in investment item from which they hope to obtain profitable (and sizeable) returns: Inflation good. Deflation bad.

For people with no investment but tons of gold saved up: Inflation bad. Deflation good.

For people with nothing at all: Inflation bad. Deflation good.

Because I fit the first group, then you should all support me by helping Gaia to welcome new users by the bushel load. The more users, the more demand. The more demand, the more inflation. The more inflation, the more returns I get from my investments. The more returns I get from my investments, the more $$$ to pad by sizeable Gaian pockets.

The sad thing about this is that I learned all my investment tecqniques from gaia before I started applying them to the real world. sweatdrop
