I noticed a couple of questions about the painting on this thread so I'll answer them based on the research I did a while back on this painting. Quote: There's a long history of haunted paintings. Almost anything can bear with it the spirits of some person or being...this is a unique case, however, in that the painter still lives and has no clue how the thing got haunted. My money says it just creeps people out, but it is a longshot possibility that a spirit may have latched onto it due to it's powerful symbolic value or intrinsic creepy factor. Yes, there is a long history but this one is pretty infamous; especially because the painter, Bill Stoneham is infamous for "exorcising his demons" through art. Some of his other paintings are just as haunted. I read one article about a man who went mad after purchasing one of Bill's paintings. Supposedly, "Hands resist him" is a self-portrait of him as a five year old boy (though he looks demonic as a five-year-old!) and is dedicated to his deceased wife who had written a poem for him. One of the verses of the poem was "Hands resist him." He interepreted this poem through painting and in doing so exorcised his demons. He claimed this in an interview once. Quote: Looks like a bomb...she planned on blowing the boy up. JK ill investigate! A BOMB!?? Lolz pretty close guess, really rofl !!! I read from some other articles on the web that the doll is supposed to be holding a gun... I don't really see it... but I think that woman who owned it claimed that her daughter told her that the doll and boy came to life at night and went to her room! The doll was threatening the little boy with a gun. It doesn't look like a gun to me so I don't really know if I can believe it lolz. Quote: maybe it is nonsense but im horribly religous maybe a cross is just a sign of comfort to me but you are entitled to believe what you want as am i so there is no need to say that is nonsense until you have proof it is A cross comforts me too, actually. The first time I saw this painting, as I explained, I felt discomfort and was creeped out the rest of the day until night. I was forced to see it a second time a year later when my cousin, a few years younger than me, wanted to see it but not alone. So I went with her and because it was almost midnight and I didn't want her to be scared (I wasn't sure how she'd react to the painting) so we both put on crosses, just in case it helps. It did. That night we weren't scared and we didn't have nightmares. But the painting still scares me a little... that darn doll!

If you'd like to read on about the painting, I have several articles that might interest you. Here is a little something written by the artist himself. Excerpt from Bill Stoneham's Interview Warning: There's a picture of the painting on the side, just in case you don't want to see it sweatdrop . Here's the artists official website with pics of other paintings which are also quite strange and freaky. Stoneham's StudioHere's a short article with some creepy details about the fate of the art critics and gallery owner who originally purchased and displayed the painting in Los Angeles. Click Here! Warning: Painting also displayed. Another creepy article and an interview with the haunted painting owner. Warning: many more pics. Plus, I emailed the current owner about the painting a few years ago. The current owner collects art and loves "Hands resist him." The only troubles are that the owner's family don't want to keep the painting. The email address has circulated around the web so it's not hard to find. I only spoke to the owner a few years ago so it might have changed by now.

Well, I took a quick glance over the pictures and was kind of like "Meh, big deal" maybe it's seeing it in person that would scare a person but after the few months I've been through I don't think those two kids jumping out of the painting would phaze me much. >.>

I get the vibe that the subjects are just as freaked being in that painting then we are to look at it.

Finally had a look at the picture. I've seen it before on another website. I didn't effect me at all. All I could think of was the bofs face wasn't very well painted. It looked like it was the cover of a comic or something.

guh... That doll... I've... I've never felt more sick because of how something looks in my life... I've had a thing for the paranormal, and I can handle alot of gory things without getting the urge to throw up (an exception being things like somebodys face melting in, like the man in 'cubed', when the acid gets sprayed in his face.) but this painting... it just... I get a real bad vibe just looking at it... It's gonna take a real long time to shake the fear of that doll out of my mind... I'm not sure if I'm even gonna be able to sleep tonight...

I wouldn't really want to be living in a painting either so if they are "alive" like the story suggests, I suppose they'd be scared and sad too. Kerolii Waaaah! If I do view it, it will be in broad daylight... I am paranoid of links though... Too many porn and screamer links on the internet nowadays.
But at any rate, I was invited around last week, but this is my first reply in this guild so far...

Whooooashit. Just looking at a piece of the painting, is one thing. Looking at a larger piece starts creeping me out - does anyone else think the little boy looks as though his head was cut apart and put back together? And I got nauseous looking at the whole thing. And yet, I have to look again.....
EDIT: Whooooashit again. I'm feeling dizzy now and freaked out as all hell. I hadn't seen the frickin' HANDS at first. I was just trying to see if I'd missed some kind of effect of the painting, and BAM, they ********' jumped out at me. Not QUITE literally. Not QUITE. Damn near though, I swear. I was nervous enough from the frickin' Big Rig of Amp, man.... -_-"
