Safi managed to chuckle at her comment, knowing full well that she was only trying to put him at ease. Hell, if he had that family things would be a lot simpler than they were, that was certain. So he felt at least a little bit better, knowing she wanted to help him, wanted this to be easier for him. So as he sat down beside her, he was a little less melacholy, a little more resolute.
"No mate, Selly, and the closest thing to those five kids I've got is a little blue basket that I adopted a couple weeks ago. Once my daughter emerges, you have to come and visit, since I doubt she'll be able to trundle this far that soon." The smile there was pure as he thought of the basket he'd adopted and come to think of as his own; he'd merely been waiting for the right tim to tell Selene about her, and now seemed to be appropriate..if a little rushed.
"But it's more complicated than that. I'm not lying when I say I love you, Selly; when I say that you're closer to me than any other mare ever has been. Nor am I lying...." Here he paused, feeling the lump in his throat that was trying to keep him from finishing.
"When I say that you're closer to me than any other mare could...or WILL be."

She tilted her head towards him. "Of course I'll come see your daughter." she chided, starting with the easiest thing to comment on. But her head was tilted in confusion, with regards to his other comments. Was he rejecting her? Or what was he trying to do? To say? Was he dying? Ohhhhh goodness. But she nodded, didn't jump to any conclusions. Just listened, like he'd asked, nuzzling into the wind stallion reassuringly.

Well, that was a positive; he was sure that Saiena would adore Selene, as there was no way should couldn't. But she hadn't picked up on the subtle meaning of his words, which meant he had to explain more.
So, choosing his words cautiously, he clarified. "Selly, do you remember when you brought me to your teepee all those weeks ago, and we went to find Yue and she was with Duo? Do you remember when he and Yue and I were all flopped up?" Hoo boy, this was embarrassing...

She blinked. Then her eyes widened, and her mouth dropped into a silent o. "I remember." she said cautiously. She kind of... knew what he was trying to tell her. And it wasn't that he had been horribly injured. But she had to hear it from his mouth. Had to hear him say it.

"Well..." He trailed off, unsure of how to put this. It sounded so wrong, even in his mind, and he couldn't help the blush that spread like wildfire across his white face, deepened by the look on her face the moment he realized she knew where he was going. So...
Taking a deep breath and turning his face to the wall, he managed to speak the words, muffled but clear. "I liked it. I liked it when he was touching me, Selly...and that wasn't the first time, or the last time, I've had...that sort of reaction...to a male."
He couldn't stop the blush, could feel his skin flaming. But at the same time, he knew she was staring at him, knew that she was having trouble digesting this. And how could she not be, shocking and...unnatural as what he was saying was?

She was silent for a few moments, digesting his words. It was.... a surprise. A disappointment. And she was still. Quiet. She had to be. She didn't want to say one thing, have him think she was taking it lightly. She wasn't.
She was... honored that he trusted her enough to tell her. And hurt by the fact that he did too. Did that make sense? Hurt that he could love her.... as a sister?, while she had let herself hope for more. "Well." she said finally, voice very soft. "Don't I feel silly."

Still facing the wall, to Safi it seemed as though the silence lasted for an extraordinary amount of time. But he didn't dare turn around, not until he heard Selene's voice, soft and somewhat disappointed.
His own embarassment forgotten, he turned to the mare and wrapped his wings around her, hugging her close. "How could you be anything but misled, Selly, given that I didn't know for sure myself until very recently? If you knew how much I struggled, how much I WANTED to be normal, how much I wanted to..."
He trailed off, uncertain how to finish that. How much he had wanted to love her like a lover, rather than just a friend? Yeah, that was tacky. Best to stick with what he was already saying, if that. "I just finally realized that this is who I am, Selly, and that fighting it is going to be pointless in the end. I've been wanting to tell you ever since I realized, but...you know." How did you bring THAT up in conversation?

She nuzzled into him, lightly. "Don't worry about it Safi." she murmured. "Be true to who you are. And I..." she chewed on a strand of mane that had gone into her mouth. "I'm glad you were honest with me, Safi. And that you felt you could tell me." she leaned forward, licking at his nose and face in almost a... kiss? "Thank you."

Selene's words did more for the stallion than she could possibly have realized. A smile, timid at first but then wider, crossed his face; one of unparalleled relief. She was one of the most important people in his life, after all, and if she had been traumatized...he couldn't even bear to think about it.
As she licked him, he leaned against her, resting his head on her shoulder. "No, Selly; thank you...for still caring."
