"Well, I don't eat those all the time, usually canned stuff like soup and ham. I rarely cook anything that needs oil, if I'm in the mood for something healthier I eat out." the red head explained. "Do you eat out?" she asked curiously.
Paestri carefully removed the mask in order to play with the feather. She rubbed it against her cheek and liked how it tickled her skin. Wordlessly she watched Gyre line the feathers up and the methodical way the other Legend counted. There was something vaguely familiar about all this...
"Wha?" Paestri asked, as if wanting to know what it was Gyre was doing and what it was for.

Lu giggled, covered her mouth to hide her fiercesome teeth. "Eat out? I suppose I do eat out, figuratively speaking..."
Gyre looked up when Paestri asked what it was she was doing. "Counting." she explained, pointing to each row of feather. "I wanna know how many feather it will take to finish the mask." She pointed to the top and side of the bare mask, where she planned to put the feathers. "I dunno right now how many I'll need. Want to count with me?"

"Linny prefers eating out as opposed to take out, he suddenly developed this wanderlust in him." Huni sighed, "Oh, Linneas is my oldest son by the way." she added.
Paestri clapped her hands in delight at Gyre's suggestion, though she didn't really know what counting meant. She scooted closer to the older girl to watch her 'count' the feathers.

"You have a son, Huni? I had no idea! What is he like? Is he genetically your son?" Human interaction with children, be they genetically bound or otherwise, fascinated Lu. No matter what she thought, she wished she was human.
Gyre carefully pointed to each feather in the line, showing, and thus teaching, Paestri which numbers meant how much. She pointed to a single feather, going slow to make sure the baby wasn't too confused. "One."

"Well, he's not my biological son. And this may sound weird, but he came from an old... Tome. I had inherited this old Stationery Shop from some distant relative I've never heard of and one of the rooms was a Study. And the Tome was inside it, and a question was written on the pages. So I answered it, and then Linneas arrived." Huni chuckled, not sure if that made sense. "He used to be such a sweet little boy, and now he's... changing. Becoming more withdrawn, more careful in what he tells me. He's taken an interest in armed combat, but with a broom or a mop..." at this Huni found herself giggling.
"Wa." Paestri echoed, pointing to the solitary feather. She looked up at Gyre, 'Is that right?' her eyes seemed to ask.

He arrived from a book? How strange. "What was the question? And now he's becoming...an armed janitor?" She giggled. Children were so strange. But she'd never heard of children coming from books. That was the strangest part.
Gyre clapped and nodded enthusiastically. She pointed to the first and second feathers, to show Paestri that she was referring to the both of them collectively. "Two."

"Well, the question was just a 'Why' so I added some words to it and it ended up as 'Why are things the way they are now?' and I answered 'Because it's all your fault.' Looking back, maybe I shouldn't have written such an angry response." Huni sighed, then broke into a smile at the 'armed janitor' comment. "I don't think he'd mind, really. Linny takes great pride in his ability to keep things clean."
Paestri nodded as she mimicked Gyre's actions. It took a while for her to understand what the older Legend was doing but she got a basic sense of what this 'counting' business was all about.
"Tu."

Lu sat in silence for a moment. It was an angry response. She was becoming more and more aware of the distance between she and Huni. It was a bit painful. "So, your response determined...Linny's...personality? How strange. If you knew what you know now, would you change your response?"
"Very good!" Gyre commended Paestri's efforts. Though she was still very young, Gyre could tell she was a very intelligent baby already. Cupping three feathers in her hand, Gyre continued. "Three."

"I didn't really know what I was getting into..." Huni frowned as she thought about it. "But honestly, I don't think it would have made any difference. The Tome sorta dictates the ongoings inside the Study, I just wrote on it..." the red head sighed. "If you don't mind my asking, but how did you chance upon Gyre?"
Paestri was slowly getting it, she reached out to three feathers, though they didn't all quite fit in her small hands. "Tee!" the infant declared brightly.

"The Tome dictates everything?" she blinked. She did not understand. "Gyre just...appeared on my porch one day. She had a note, too, but I forget what it said exactly. Something like 'please take care of Gyre for me.' I have no idea who wrote it..."
Gyre nodded again. Paestri was understanding now! "Can you guess how many this is?" She held up four feathers now.

"Well... not exactly verbally dictates... but the Tome and the Study have a mind of their own. Weird, and hard to explain, I guess it's something one has to experience." Huni scratched her head in confusion. "Someone left her on your porch?" the red head blinked.
Paestri stared hard at the feathers, she saw it was a set of a "one" and a "three" but she didn't know what it was called. She tilted her head in deep thought then decided to respond, "Wa an Tee!" she pointed to the first feather and then the remaining three.

"I suppose so. It must be some sort weird book-magic. I knew I should never have trusted them..." She shook her head, smiling. Such a strange one was she. "And yes, someone just left her on my porch. In a little basket. When she first arrived, as I'm sure you recalled, she tried to bite everyone... But she's come so far since then..."
Gyre flapped her wings gently. She did understand! And she was beginning to form her very first mathmatical thoughts. "One and three is called four." Perhaps they should stop, though, so Paestri's mind could absorb it all. "Would you like to help me glue on the feathers?"

"At first I thought the book was just, well, a book. Then when words started appearing all by themselves I sorta freaked out. Thankfully Syrie was there to help me from thinking I was going crazy." Huni added with a fond smile. "It's good that she doesn't go around biting people anymore. Paestri has been doing nothing but sleep and sleep and sleep. I'm starting to worry that she's narcoleptic..."
"Fo." Paestri murmured as she eyed the feathers in her hands. At Gyre's suggestion she nodded excitedly, though she didn't know what glue was and what they were going to be doing with the feathers. The older Legend seemed to know what she was doing and thus Paestri would follow.

"Narco...leptic? Does that mean one sleeps all the time? Babies do that, I think. Most babies, anyway. She seems quite awake and alert right now. And, perhaps the book has a mind of it's own?" That thought seemed downright creepy.
Gyre picked up one of the feathers with one hand, and the glue bottle with the other. "Glue is sticky. Not good to eat. Glue makes things stick to other things. Like this!" She dabbed a bit of the white glue on the end of the feather and placed it on the mask. Blowing on it to make it dry faster, she showed Paestri that now the feather would not come off. She tugged at it. "See?"

"They do? Whew, that's a relief." Huni nodded, "You'd think I know this with Linny, but he's always been such an active little baby. As for that Tome and the Study, I think they're working together. They've gotten several people to write in them, resulting in several more babies." she added, rubbing her temples.
"Goo?" Paestri gurgled, eyeing the white substance that emerged from the bottle. It reminded her of the white paint, and when she saw what this liquid was capable of, she clapped her hands in glee.
Gyre was so amazing! She knew so much and was teaching her a lot. The infant wanted to do something for her the next time they met each other. Right now, she took a feather, and placed it on the mask. When she let go, she squeaked when it fell off. Then she remembered the glue had to be put on the feather first. Sheepishly she picked up the fallen feather and raised it to Gyre for the glue.
