"They aren't all that friendly so they generally ignore gatherings like this." That was a good thing though. He wouldn't want any of them at the party for fear they would try experimenting on the crowd.

Kaleb sighed. "Why do they get to stay at home and I have to come to the party?" He asked hesitantly. Although the decorations were nice, the mage was really eager to read those two books. The sooner he went back to his studies, the sooner he would be able to learn the advanced magic and be stronger.

Kaleb smiled lopsidedly, he would rather be a Turk and have to go to all the parties than be considered strange. "I-I really don't mind it that much," he said, fidgeting slightly with the hem of his jacket sleeves. "I-it's kind of nice knowing you want me here more than the science department."

Kaleb frowned a bit, his fidgeting stopping for only a second before resuming in a slightly more nervous manner. "Why?"

"The man in charge of the scientific department is rather .... interested in strange things." He shivered slightly at the thought of the man. Something wasn't right with him. "You shouldn't have any worries. He is not allowed to touch Turks."

Kaleb was completely creeped out when he noticed Tseng's reaction to discussing the man. "S-so I-I should be o-okay? E-even if I'm interesting because I'm new?" He nervously raised his glass of eggnog to his lips, and took a long drink, completely forgetting about the alcohol in it.

Kaleb took another large sip from his glass, but he seemed reassured. A little. "B-but if h-he doesn't know about my magic, I-I should have even less to worry about?" He really didn't like the way Tseng had phrased his last sentance, but he was eager to believe he would be just fine.

"There's a good chance he already knows. Your files are avaliable to him if he bothers to look. Though if he was interested i would think you would have already met him" He straightened his jacket as Rufus walked over.
"You don't seem to be having fun Kaleb?" The smirk on his face would have been a warning to most people that he was up to something.

Kaleb looked even more nervous, like he was afraid he would be ambushed by the head of the science department if he strayed too far into the crowd. He almost winced a bit as Rufus addressed him, and he tried to stop his nervous fidgeting so his employer wouldn't think poorly of him. "I-I w-was just listening to Tseng tell me about some of the other departments..." He tried to calm himself a little with another long drink.

"The science department i trust?" He looked at Tseng for a moment before looking back to Kaleb. "The head of that department doesn't leave the lab long. I wouldn't want to inflict his insanity on the rest of the world"

Kaleb nodded, and then closed his eyes and rubbed at his head. The alcohol in the drink had started to get to him. "I-I hope I don't ever run into him," the mage said nervously, while trying not to fidget.

"As long as you don't going exploring the lower levels of the building, and i wouldn't suggest you do that, you wont see him." He handed a glass of champaign to Tseng. "It's a party, stop acting like it's the end of the world"
Tseng glared at the drink but took a sip before Rufus snarled at him rather than just making a smart a** comment.
