"If y'sure..." Charlot leaned forward about to take her hand and thought better of it. Instead, he touched the side of her arm to lead her toward the door.

"Oi'm a little nervous about today..." He could use a smoke or five, really. He stepped down to the ground, waiting patiently for her to follow. The grounds he was scheduled to use were on the other side of the camp, but they had plenty of time to prepare before he was expected to be performing.

Ankita smiled slightly when he touched her, and followed tout suite.

"Don't be nervous." She cocked her head slightly and smiled, "You'll do amazing, I'm sure of it." Her eyebrows raised in hopeful optimism, "Besides, if you stress out to much, you'll be bound to mess u-" quickly she closed her mouth, laughing nervously. "Yeah... I don't think that came out quite right."

Charlot laughed, adjusting the top hat he'd acquired from the trailer. It sat tilted slightly, shading the right half of his face from the sunlight as the moved toward the main grounds.

"Ah, for your sake... Oi 'ope oi don' mess up." He teased, pulling his blades free from the pack he carried as they walked. He had six thin silver blades, four of them had never been used... the other two were well worn around the handles.

"This should just be whip tricks... Oi'm not prepared for th' blades yet."

For a moment Ankita laughed at his comment, until she finally realized it really would be a good thing for no mistakes to be made. She did have a strange fondness for living. ... And not feeling pain.

"So, what should I be doing exactly? Anything in particular?"

"Well... Base'klly y'stand or sit where oi putcha and y'remain veeeeeeeery still."

They arrived in front of the ringed off area where he was scheduled to do his show. He stepped forward to open the little ropes that ringed out his area for Ankita. "C'mon on."

Charlot waited for her to step in before closing it again behind her. "Y'might hear a few loud snaps an things, but don' worry.. that's just th' whip."

He took her hand, leading her through the messy collection of items he'd thrown down earlier that day. He still had to get everything set up nice. He paused in the middle, glancing at her.

"Y'prefer to sit or stand, M'lady?"

Ankita held onto him until they finally reached their destination. "I'll try not to be startled." She said in slight nervousness. It wasn't that she didn't trust him, or have faith that he'd do well, it was just that she suddenly began to get nervous for him. She hoped everything would go well (obviously for her sake as well).

"Uhm, I can do standing, or sitting, but standing's fine."

"Alright, standing it is." He placed her against a stool, something she could lean back against comfortably so she just wasn't STANDING out in the middle of nothing. "If y' get tired, y'can 'ave a sit on that. Just... tell me before y'go switchin positions on me, hmm?"

He grinned, moving away from her to finish his last minute preparations. It was several moments later before he returned to her, giving her arm a pat.

"Okay, show's 'bout to start. I'll be givin y' a couple of things to 'old. All y' 'ave t'do it 'old them til Oi snap them outta place. Oi won't 'urt you at all- just trust me, hmm?"

Ankita nodded to his request, she was good at staying still, so she figured she probably wouldn't be moving much. She shifted her weight, back and forth while swishing her skirt around as she waited for him to return, listening to his movements as he made the final preparations.

When he returned, she quickly stood up straight again, biting her lip slightly. "Whatever you want to do is fine." she said nodding. "And, I trust you." she said, smiling softly.

Maybe it was the tension in his stomach or the knot that uncoiled to create the butterflies that he could feel in his throat, but he could feel his hands begin to shake a little at her words.

I trust you. Famous last words, eh?

He eased himself into performing, flashing the audience an easy smile after a few soft words to his 'partner'. A small crowd had begun to gather, much to his pleasure. There was no use in giving a show if there was no one to witness it.

He stretched out his arms, walking backwards for a moment before turning, taking in the dozen occupants that circled his little corner. His flair for the dramatic stepped up, replacing his nervousness as he stepped up onto a crate.

"Ladies an' Gentleman," His voice growled above their casual chatter. "Boys an' g'els-" He nodded to each, winking to a little blond clutching her teddy bear tightly. "You've come t' th' r'oght place."

One hand folded behind his back, the other he used to gesture as he spoke. "Set before you f'you viewing pleasha- " He dropped off the crate, stepping aside to point to Ankita where she sat perched atop the stool. She made the striking image set against the backdrop of darkness the circus provided. All brightly lit color and beauty. "Th' lovely Ahn'keeta."

Even her name caught tiny gasps of awe from the crowd. It sounded exotic enough to be a stage name. Charlot smirked, turning back to the crowd that had grown a bit since he began to talk. A little more coaxing would never hurt.

"But- that's not all- oh no. Oi plan on showin' yous'great feats of skill an' possible mayhem." At the 'possible mayhem' he flashed a dark smile, scaring the women into grabbing their children and the men to lean forward curiously. Everyone liked a bit of blood and gore.

He tugged his top hat free, tossing it through the air to a tall, rusted coat rack that stood beside the small table covered in the items he'd use tonight. The hat spun through the air, lighting itself on the top. He could see a lot easier without the damned thing in his way. He had no intentions of causing any 'mayhem' that wasn't unnecessary.

A few steps took him to the table, fingertips sliding around the cold leather handle of his whip. He tugged it from the table top, flicking his wrist to uncoil it as he walked back across the soft dirt stage.

The audience took in the whip, curious to see what exactly they were about to witness. Charlot walked past the outer ring, letting them get a good look at the long leather cord, the metal barbed tip. Whispers passed through the crowd, all voicing their own opinions about some sort of torture show or possible flaying.

Charlot came to a stop beside Ankita, hooking the whip hilt into his belt. "Alright, Oi think we got th' crowd's attention-" He shifted to grab a few bowling pins. They were decently LARGE for starting off. He needed to warm up anyway. "All y'got to do is 'old these." He placed the pins in her hand, then lifted her arms out on either side of her body. "Pick sittin' or standin'.. then stay put until oi says so."

His fingertips moved back down to collect the whip, walking away from his assistant to a few feet away. He turned back around to chat with the audience, giving them an idea of what he was about to attempt. They looked from their host to the young woman, shocked.

Charlot turned around, tilting his head toward Ankita. "Ready luv?"

Ankita could hear all of the bustling in the crowd. She clasped her hand patiently, listening to it all and began to realize how sweaty her palms had become as she clenched and locked her fingers tight.

Possible mayhem... That has to just be all for show, right? Getting them hyped up? He couldn't be serious. But she noticed that the sound of his footsteps made her twitch slightly.

No, she has to trust him. Everything will be okay.

When he handed her the bowling pins, she paused for a moment. Sitting might be safer... but standing might be better for the audience? She couldn't pick which until her body moved for her. She stood up, almost wincing at her own action and stood still.

"I'm ready when you are.."

That a girl. Charlot thought she was doing great. Her face appeared perfectly serene, trusting- just as an assistant should be. The crowd seemed almost skeptical, some protesting the sport and requesting that the young woman be removed from the show. Let them be amazed, that was half the fun.

He paused as someone moved around the ring, lighting a few more candles to bask the scene in less shadow. He vaguely noticed it did not increase the light, only emphasized the shadow and pulled it into the ring. A cigarette found itself in his hands, stealing the long lit match the kid was using to kindle torches. He gave the lad a grin, thanking him before exhaling a plume of smoke and setting the cig between sharp teeth.

The whip found itself in his hand again, the right one, and he began to prepare himself. He'd done this a ton of times before- not with a person mind, but with the same equipment and varied distances. He tugged his collar a little loose, shifting his stance so that his feet were more apart as he began to flick the whip around the loose dirt of the small circle 'arena'.

He could feel the dozens of eyes on his back, like a tiny itch he couldn't quite reach. It was nice to have an audience and he was by no means shy about being in front of others. He stepped forward, finding his first mark.

"Alright, stand straight and extend those arms." He murmured toward Ankita, waiting a tick before the first whip crack split the semi-silence.

The end of the whip snapped around the base of the pin, coiling twice before he'd snatched it back. The item was jerked quickly from the her grasp, arching upwards into the darkness. In another second, Charlot cracked the whip again, sending it's friend upwards after it. He wrapped the whip around his waist, back peddling quickly to grab the first pin and then the second as he turned to the audience, letting the motion end with a bow.

Impressed, the audience allowed themselves to offer an applause and a few exchanged words of awe. A simple trick, but the danger made it special.

"Now, big ol' pins are dandy n'all.. but how 'bout we raise the stakes a bit?" Charlot called to the crowd, tossing the pins aside the trunk that held some of the other items. He reached into his back pocket, producing a deck of cards in their pristine box. Moving forward, he removed the cards and offered them fanned out to the crowd.

"Be my guest... pick a card." One of the young women offered a hand out, plucking a card. Another card was chosen by a little boy, face covered in powdered sugar and some strange sticky cherry substance. Charming.

Charlot returned the remaining cards to the deck, tucking them back into his pocket. "Wot y'ave, miss?" He approached the woman first, taking the card and scanning it. Ain't that luck. "King of Hearts." He winked at her, managing a blush before slinking over to the young boy.

"And wot about you, sir?" He smiled, taking the card. "Jack of Diamonds! Clever card, that." The performer accepted his as well, showing the crowd the pristine cards as he'd called them- King and Jack. He then offered a little fountain pen to the lady, requesting a signature and then the young boy. Names scrawled across the cards he showed them again to the crowd and then turned back to move to Ankita.

"Y'did great, luv. Now this'll be a bit more tricky, but Oi've full confidence you'll do fine." He instructed her to do much the same as before, placing the cards in her fingertips. "Trick is to hold the card securely, but as far from your hand as possible, Aye?"

Ankita couldn't help but flinch slightly at the first crack of the whip, taking away the pin. Okay. That wasn't too bad. The second was far easier to handle.

She smiled proudly at herself when she heard the positive response. She couldn't even help but clap quietly to herself as well.

"Wait. What?" Ankita said, hushed to herself. "Cards?" She said as he handed her the cards. "Isn't that. maybe. Too much of a stake raise? ahah..." But, she didn't see much getting her out of this. She did agree to doing this after all. And it was his act. And she did trust him (or so she hoped). But cards? really?

Hesitantly, she placed the cards in her hands reaching out as far from her body as she possibly could. Just breath.

Charlot couldn't help the little chuckle. He quietly reassured her, placing a hand on one of hers.

"Nah, y'should 'ave seen me try this with knives... botched job." He smirked, removing his hand from hers and giving her a pat on the waist before stepping backwards. "We're almost done, chin up~"

He turned back to the crowd, giving them all a brilliant smile before gesturing toward Ankita.

"There, th'stage is set. With only mere inches from 'arms way, oi aim to slice your cards in 'alf!" He pointed toward the young woman and boy, turning on heel to face his lovely assistant. Poised and ready, he moved forward with the whip in hand again.

"Ready." He called out to Ankita, giving her a moment to resettle if she wished to move, before raising his hand and giving the whip a few test flicks. Tap, tap, tap. On the fourth flick, the whip rose and snapped- sending a theatrical spark of black smoke and sparkle into the air as the first card was split- cut half falling to the ground.

He stepped to the side a little, snapping the whip a few times before following suit (no pun intended) and cracking the whip high again. The second card sparked red, cut in half as well.

The crowd behind him burst into cheers, applause loud as they gave their appreciation to the brave assistant. Charlot recoiled the whip, hooking it to his belt before snuffing his cigarette and moving to retrieve the card bits. He stepped up in front of Ankita, smile in his voice.

"Great job, they love you." He took her hands, placing the torn pieces in each, King in her right hand and Jack in her left. He then placed a hand on her back, leading her forward toward the crowd.

"As y'can see, th' cards were cut." The people leaned forward, marveling at the bits in her hands. "An she was not."
