Covet smiled at the ornaments he handed her and continued to pick several more out, then handed them to the shu in the stall. Laughing at his comment, she looked up at him and nodded to the cookie in his hand.
"You should try it. It's not terribly sweet and has a lot of spice in it," she smiled and handed the money over to the shu vendor. Turning to the booth he was standing at, she looked over the various sweets and immediately thought of all the fun she was going to have making special treats for her regulars in Martiya. Picking out a few, she turned to him expectantly as the shu baker boxed up her sweets. "Go on," she smiled.

Mecca gave the cookie a skeptical look and then looked back up to her. Rolling his eyes he took a tentative bite and grimaced a little as the sweetness disovled on this tongue. Though, she was right, the spices made it bareable. "Not bad." He said taking a bigger bite and then handing it back to her. "Though I do not think I could eat too much."

Covet smiled brightly as he tasted it, and even agreed that it was pretty good. Taking the rest of the cookie from him, she thanked the baker and looped her arm through his and began to nibble on it as they started to walk through the crowd.
"You're so funny about sweets. You must be the only shu I've ever met who just can't eat them," she mused cheerfully as she looked up at him then paused at another booth selling random decorations.
"What are you going to get me for Christmas?" she asked nonchalantly as she sifted through the other items.

Mecca smirked and started to look at some different decorations, in particular some candles. ""I am just unique." he said as he picked up some red ones and held them up to inspect them. "And I am not telling you what you present will be. Surely that would spoil your fun." Raising an eyebrow he showed her the candle and smiled. "How about this?" He asked "You said we needed something to light the tree."

Covet laughed as he refused to tell her and slipped the candle from his fingers to look at it. "Perfect," she smiled and looked up at him. She watched him for a few moments and smiled once more. He had come a long way from the shu who had stepped back into her life that day a few months earlier in 'Veronica'. She honestly never would have suspected he would be interested in the life they had created together. Picking out a couple of wreaths and a few more candles, she turned back to him with her arms loaded down.
"Is there anything else you might like... or inquire about?" she smiled with a small laugh as she shifted the packages in her arms.

Mecca smirked and payed for the goods she had brought from the stall. "I would like to go back to the house and see how this will all fit on that tree." he was starting to see what she meant about thinkgs being different for this celebration. Everything seemed lighter somehow, everyone in a good mood. "Is there anything else you wanted?"

"Um..." she started as she thought about it for a moment, trying to get some hair out of her eyes without the use of her loaded down hands. She mentally checked off the things that they might need and decided they had most everything to get started with at least. "Nope, I think that's about everything for now," she smiled brightly and started towards the edge of the market to head back to their home.

The tree was resting outside the house when they returned, letting Covet and Scimitar into the house he fought with the spikey branches to get it into the house. "Where do you want it?" He asked, his voice slightly muffled by the branches.

Covet put all of their parcels on the kitchen table and turned around with a deep breath as she swept her hair out of her eyes. "Right over here," she smiled and walked up to him to tug on his sleeve in the direction she wanted him to go in. Leading him over towards the corner she wanted it, she stepped back with her hands on her hips to make sure she liked where it was.
"Perfect my love," she smiled happily and left him to finish setting it up as she started to unpack their decorations and candles.
"I really can't believe you've never heard of this holiday," she smiled over her shoulder at him. "Haven't you done anything normal ever?" she asked, bringing over a few of the glass ornaments to start placing them randomly on the fresh branches.

Mecca smirked and walked over to start unpacking the candles. "Normal is relative." He said walking back over so that he could start to place them on the tree. "The things I do are normal to me. Maybe it is you who is the abnormal one?"

Covet looked at him and smirked as she turned to grab some more ornaments. "Okay. I'll buy that," she smirked and continued decorating the tree. "Though I suppose that means that the whole of Shutensa would be abnormal then," she smiled and put the last few of their bought ornaments on the branches. Taking a small step back to admire it, she decided she would need to figure out a way make some ornaments to fill it in a little more, but already it was beginning to feel more like Christmas. Smiling happily and bouncing a little, she turned and slipped her arms around him.
"Thank you, for all of this," she smiled up at him. It really meant a lot to her that he had been so willing to accept such a fluffy happy holiday. "Do you think you truly have some things at your shop that might look nice?" she asked glancing back at the tree. She wanted it to be just as much his as it was hers.

Mecca smirked and wrapped his arms around her to hold her close. He would admit that it looked interesting. However he still wasn't wholly convinced of the idea of the holiday. "I think I may have some crystals or charms that would suit it." He said with a half smile. "I will bring them home tomorrow and see if you like them."
Smirking he kissed her shoulder and stepped over to the fire to light it and take a seat on the fluffy rug. "Do you know why this tradition began?" He asked, holding his arm out to her.

Covet watched him and smiled as he beckoned her over. Stretching out on the soft rug, she rested her head down on his lap, her long hair spilling over his legs and onto the floor.
"Let's see," she began as she thought back to the stories Matty used to tell her. "There once was a shu who was terribly selfish. He had many things, many treasures from all over the world but it was never enough. If someone had something that he wanted, he would go to great lengths to get it. Very great lengths," she smirked a little and traced her nail along his crimson arm.
"One day a friend of his invited him over and he met his friend's girlfriend. Needless to say she was very beautiful and sweet and of course this shu wanted her. She was like no other female he had ever seen before and he pledged he would do whatever it would take to get her," she smiled and looked up at him. Sitting up, she slid into his lap so that she could play with his hair.
"He tried everything but she would have nothing to do with him. She was far too in love with his friend, so he did the only thing he could think of... he killed him. But even with his friend out of the way, she would not have him. She could never love someone as selfish and cold as him, nor could she get past her grief. No matter what he gave to her to try to win her over, she would turn away from his gifts and each time she did so, she became more beautiful in his eyes: a treasure that he desired above all others, but could never attain. He became desperate to make her happy once more. All he wanted more than anything was to see her smile," she smiled and leaned in to kiss him softly.
"It was on an evening when he found her crying over a picture of her beloved, his friend, that he finally realized what it was he must do. Selling all of his treasures, he travelled the world until he found the most powerful cleric he could find. Pleading his case and seeking redemption for his selfish ways, he paid the cleric to undo the evil he had done. With his resurrected friend, he returned home. The smile and happiness that he witnessed in the woman he loved filled him with a warmth he had never felt before and he realized something. Even with all the treasures of the world at his fingertips, he had never been truly happy. The feeling he had received from one small act of selflessness had conquered a lifetime of lonliness and selfishness. It was a feeling he never wanted to lose and from that day forward he devoted the rest of his life to his friends and loved ones, appreciating them for making his life brighter and ensuring their happiness," she finished with another soft kiss and slight smirk.

Mecca listened to her spin her story and rand his fingers through her long hair. "That was a very interesting story." He said with a slight smirk. He was not sure he liked it. It all seemed a bit pathetic and pointless. Why would people base a whole festival on such a story? Despite his wonderings he kept his mouth shut. He knew she was excited about the festival and did not wast to upset her.
Slipping his fingers into her hair he pulled her into a deep, soft kiss and smiled. "You tell stories very well." He said, "I think I may understand what this festival means now."

Covet studied him after he broke his deep kiss and smirked at his words. Twisting her fingers into his hair, she leaned forward and nipped his lower lip lightly. "Thank you," she smiled as she looked into his catlike eyes. "It's what I do best, and I'm glad I could use it to help you," she smirked a little, not sure if she believed him or not as she watched the warm firelight dance off his features. Tracing her nail along the markings on his face, she once more began to think about how much they had changed for each other. "Are you happy Me-chan?" she asked with a warm smile as she looked back into his eyes.
