Nibal had been staring at the teacher and had forgotten to take notes until he saw the other students writing. Oh yes, he should be writing this stuff down. Now what exactly had she said? That's right, control. He had nodded at her question, more because he was frightened of her than anything else.

Fleur scratched his head with his pencil but wrote down what he had heard so far even though it was confusing him more than anything else. Seemed like there was no straight answer when it came to magic. He nodded to her question though. She was perfectly clear - control was always a good thing.

Good, they seemed to get the message. There would be no fooling around, not in her class. She was going to teach serious students. And if they weren't serious, they could study elsewhere, simple as that.
"Now," Raven said stiffly, "what do you think somebody needs in order to perform magic? This could be a physical object, or perhaps a trait or an action."

Chath raised his hand slowly. His aws jsut a theory. SInce when he used magic all he did was use his spirit to concentrate, but he had seen others perform magic differently.
"Um, word enchants? Or specific hand gestures?" he offered as an answer.

Ter totally knew this one, "Those books with the scribbles in them." The weird markings that Ligeia was often seen starting at, "Erm... glyphs." He corrected himself only because Ligeia often corrected him when he asked his brother why he was bother to stare at all of the 'scribbles'.

"Books on magic and wands?" Fleur offered with a tilt of his head. "And the will to use them." He knew every instrument, magical or not, needed the user to want to use it before it could do anything whether it was a magic wand or a fishing pole.

Nibal was going to answer 'wands' but another boy had beat him to it. He thought about what little magic he knew of and tried to come up with something that hadn't been said already. Unfortuantely, magic words had been said as well, so he was lost. "Isn't blood used sometimes?" It was all he could think of, though it seemed to be related with dark magic more than regular magic...

Raven listened as the boys (why was the class all boys?) volunteered their answers, her face emotionless. When each had ventured a guess, she held out her hand, palm up. Seconds later, a ball of light appeared, gold with green flecks. It grew to be about as large as a softball before exploding in a shower of sparks, which flew across the room in dizzying patterns.
"Now. Tell me what you saw, and how you think it happened."

Woah! The magic woman could make fireworks! Ter gave a grin that show fangs then followed one of the sparks with his eyes as it made its way across the classroom. He blinked then laughed, cool.
"You made fireworks!" He said excitedly, or at least that sure was what it looked like to him. Now as to how she did it... he had no clue. That was what she was supposed to tell them right?

Fleur squeaked and watched the sparks dance around the room, fascinated completely. Was he going to be able to do that someday? He hoped so - he'd love to do something similar with blue and purple!
He heard her question quite a while after she actually asked it, too fascinated to pay attention. He thought about her question and what would be the best answer. He knew "fireworks" wasn't going to please her, but he was beginning to get the feeling that she was not easy to please at all.
"I think you conjured it and told it to break up like that," the skunk offered pensively. "Were the colors significant in any way?" Green and gold were odd colors to him, so he assumed there was something significant about them.

Chath thought that magic was fairly interesting, though it reminded him of electricity and it made him shudder inwardly. Being a creature of water electricity would hurt a lot.
"It looks like you built up a lot of magical pressure and it exploded." Chath answered honestly. He could do the same thing with his water. If he couldn't control the amount he summed he lost control and it would either explode or just spill onto the ground. He went silent again. Right....this teacher didn't seem to like his remarks. Or him for that matter.

Fireworks. What a simplistic explanation for what she'd done. "As you may learn in a science-oriented class later on, Mr. Solon, the firework effect is a achieved through mixing chemicals, which I can assure you, I did not do. Nor do I have any interest in attempting."
Really, fireworks. At least the next student gave a more thought-out reply, though the rationale was still childish. "That is partially correct, however you give no explanation as to why. However... you are correct about the colors. I will explain in a moment. And you, Mr. Emehud, are also partially correct. What I just did involved building up pressure, however the explosion, as you put it, was not due to the pressure exceeding the restraint.
"What you just saw was a demonstration of raw magical power. Usually, when one directs ones power, it is given form, either physical or metaphysical. However it is possible to release power without using a spell, which would yield undirected power. This, when it manifests, fizzles on contact with the physical world, not having any set purpose. It does, however, look rather flashy. A parlor trick."
Oh yes, and she had to address the color issue as well. Raven was mildly surprised that anyone had picked up on it. "As for the colors, those are the colors that my magic assumes in the visible spectrum. Each person has a unique magical vibration that expresses itself, usually through colors and sounds, when magic is released. This is partially influenced by field of study and natural element, and partly by one's own ability and personality. Mine, for example, is gold because of my specialties in life magics, most of which fall into the category of "holy" magics. The green is my natural color, however it is overshadowed due to the level of skill I have reached with my chosen specialty."
Perhaps it was time for another demonstration. "May I have a volunteer, please?"

Nibal had been too shocked at the display of magic to even venture an answer, though luckily the teacher didn't get angry and just went on with her lesson. Volunteer? The boy gulped. He really didn't want to do that. What if he couldn't do what she wanted him to do? Then he'd look stupid in front of the other boys in his class. And he didn't want that... So he tried to make himself look small while hoping that someone else would volunteer instead.

Fleur peered around the room nervously, his ears pressed back. He did not want to volunteer any more than anyone else, but he had to admit he was intensely curious...could he really do something like that? The teacher did not seem too pleased with him, but he hoped he could get on her good side, so he meekly raised a black-furred hand.

Despite the fact that Chath felt this woman didn't like him he still wanted to do well. So he put up his hand offering to be the said volunteer. He wondered why it seemed like everyone else was trying to hide. Though, with this teacher he didn't blame them in the least.
"I can be your volunteer." he voiced in case she ignored his hand.
