The PS3 is a threequel. WHY GET THE SAME THING ONLY A BIT MORE IMPORVED AGAIN.

Wii is sex. Its amazing. Its all motion sensored and sexy and you will be able to buy the past NES and SNES and 64 games for it. AND AND THE PS3 IS SO BUGGY AND EXPENSIVE.

There arent enough Wii in the world to hoard over on EBAY

I second everything Meru has said here. xD Wii is, in fact, sex.

Not that the PS3 is necessarily bad because of it. However, Sony's made some...rather bad mistakes as far as the console itself goes.

Hardware is expensive, which means:
-Sony loses on every console
-Sony can only afford, due to these losses, a limited amount of systems
-These systems sell out, and the market penetration isn't high enough to make the money back through games/accessories.

Meaning: Sony loses a lot of money.

All in all, they have some catching up to do, which is hard, because they can't drop the price anytime soon; considering how they're already losing $240 on every console.

Besides that, for the most part, the extra power will go unused on the PS3 for a long time. Game companies have already said that the 360 is easier to develop for, so they'll port it to the PS3 from there.

I think they're going to make their money back on something else.

You can't really think Sony would just be stupid enough to sit there and keep losing their money... they have to be making up that money somehow, I mean they've been around long enough to know that losing money is bad

And maybe dukes, people aren't bashing the Wii because they think it's better.
I don't really see how that's an excuse to attack everyone, personally. confused

I don't really see how I've attacked everyone. And as for your not getting yelled at, that's most likely because the VCs aren't ever on at the same time and thus are having trouble getting any definite decisions made.

Well, yes. Losing money is bad, but Sony has to do it to be able to release the PS3 at this point.

They're currently in a bad predicament, and the company itself is losing money in other divisions, too...the stock is dropping and et cetera. However, I do think they'll be able to bounce back from this. It just might take a while for them to be able to make money of of the Playstation 3.

They're making that money back already, all those fees Nintendo is paying to use awesome things, like the Bluetooth that makes their fancy controller possible.

Nintendo is not paying Sony any money to license "the Bluetooth that makes their fancy controller possible".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth_Special_Interest_Group
Bluetooth is privately owned by a network of companies, of which Sony is not included in.

And what, exactly, are these other technologies that they're licensing?

I guess I should start watching that stock market channel I was addicted to until like a week ago sweatdrop

but I think that their losing money is a plan, companies like Sony wouldn't just lose money for no reason, there HAS to be something else coming up, like sometthing to add to make it cooler, I dunno, but they HAVE to have a plan because they should have know it would have cost them money and they'd lose money.

Well...one of the things that Sony's trying to do, is use the ps3 to get a blu-ray player into homes, thereby getting people to buy blu-ray movies instead of hd-dvd movies (by M$)... so then they'll make their money that way... they hope...

Personally, I dun really see the need to have anything more hi-def than current dvds... x_x

And I sure as hell dun have that kind of money to plop down for a game console... @_@

Now, both consoles are very very good at what they do.

So this isn't an attack on you or your beloved console.

But you're saying that because a phone made by sony uses bluetooth, Sony owns the technology?

Too bad the iMac G5 I'm typing on disproves that.

You're not going to convince people the console is good with broken logic.

Dukes is arguing with me over IM at the moment that since Ericsson workers developed the original Bluetooth standard, and Sony folded them into themselves, that Sony therefore owns Bluetooth and all rights to it.

This is not true.

I think that Sony misguessed the direction of the gaming market and thought technology and graphics were what was going to be the hot topic of this console generation like last generation. Its not, all the graphics have sufficiently improved to the point were there isnt much difference in graphics on the three anymore. Now popular gaming titles and good gameplay are being targeted as well as ease of use. Sony is a bit expensive for most people and is only selling consoles to people based on brandname and familiarity, nothing else and those people are being stupid. Nintendo has developed a very easy to play system and with Zelda out at Launch brought back its fans. Xbox 360 got out first and produced some good games. Sony didnt have any memorable launch games and its controller had no real improvements its the PS2+ with innovations inspired by the Wii and 360 namely the wireless controller with motion sensor and dual priceing based on how much stuff your system has.

Quote:
The Bluetooth specification was first developed in 1994 by Sven Mattison and Jaap Haartsen, who were working for Ericsson Mobile Platforms in Lund, Sweden at the time

They were only workers of Ericsson at the time the Bluetooth standard was developed.

And from what I understood, you said all rights. If that's not what you meant, then that would be an error on my behalf, alright? I'm not certain how you could have meant anything else, though, in the context of the situation...

Either way, this dispute could feasibly go on forever and not really get anywhere.

Any of the three consoles could win at this point, honestly. It depends solely on the games released and the actions that the companies take, so there's not a lot of point debating based on what we have now: a year of Xbox 360 and about a week since the PS3 and Wii launches.
