Dmar-kun I'm Asian and Canadian! does that give me both the sterotypes? Depends on who you're talking to. Not everyone is going to be an a** and start stereo-typing you. Some people actually look past the flesh and bones and skin colour biggrin .

Ensigma Well then, let me give you my opinion. Not everyone in the world stereotypes and criticize Canadians. The people that do are mostly American teens, since they stereotype every minority. Stereotypes always have some truth in them, since most of them are made by observation, however careless it may be. Canadians probably have done something that enables people to stereotype. An example would be: Canada allows gay marriages; Canadians are gay. I'm Asian, and Asians have much more stereotypes than Canadians. unfortunatly, sterotyping is a way of life. just be thankful the world doesn't seem to hate your country (cause it look like that for the us stressed )

There are steryotypes about nearly everything about a person, people make judgements and about where you live, the color of your skin, your hobbies, even the color of your hair.
I think that when people judge people based on steryotypes, it's kind of a way to make thing easier on themselves mentally. When they meet someone, having a steryotpical impression set in their mind saves them the trouble of having to wonder or worry about what kind of person they're meeting. I don't think most people mean to judge someone so quickly, but with media influences especially I think they get in our heads whether we want them or not.

I don't think most people mean to judge someone so quickly, but with media influences especially I think they get in our heads whether we want them or not. Of course, it's a first impression based on an observation.
Of course, many of the people who stereotype have never been to Canada and don't know s**t about us. They permit themselves to say that we are a bunch of hockey playing hicks who live in the woods and that we hibernate during the cold winters (ok well now there is global warming so it's very hot ie:10°C) which is not the case They also tend to put all canadians in the same boat when, just like in the US (except that they have states) each province and territory has it's own culture Take Quebec for instance, we are a very different nation and, although greatly unexpected, have been officially considered a nation by Harper .
So my point is that if you want to make judgements, at least know what you are talking about!

ummm...Canadians are stereotyped just like the rest of the humans on the world...Whether anyone likes it or not, there's always going to be some person who is going to detest a whole bunch of people that they don't even know just because they're different than them.

Stereotyping is our brains way of organizing information in the most effeicient way possible. I like Canada and Canadians.
For me, it's just that it's Canada. Kinda like the comedic scapegoat. Much like Colin Mocharie, my favorite Canadin ever.

One of the worst things about any stereotyping is that is DOES offend people and it is done in complete ignorance or disregard. I always do my best to avoid stereotyping and I try never to let stereotyping get to me because I know it was done in ignorance or for the exclusive reason to offend.
