We have three traditions for before any competition... Trumpets always get together in a circle and, after tuning and warming up, they blast out random trills and falls for about 10 seconds. Low brass players do the same, but they just blat out some random note. It makes such a cool, but horrible chord!! Then, once everyone warms up and finishes getting coats buttoned, plumes straightened, and such, we all stack our hands on top of eachother and yell something that's usually, "Kick brass!", or "Go Squires!". But my favorite little thing that we did after we marched was our little chant... It goes, "S-K-A-N-K! B-A-N-D, Skank band!", usually followed by jumping around and screaming random words. We drive the other bands nuts!

I'm in a very odd band. The flutes have a ritual where they chat "f-f-f-l-u, t-t-t-e-s, f-l-u, t-e-s, go flutes!!!!" And then they do pelvic thrusts into us trumpets and chant "flutes!" with every bump. Saxes try to warm each other (on cold days) by moving around like penguins... I feared for their sanity the first time I saw that. High brass... we do little dances while the seniors play a little rock tune. Low brass sometimes join in, but usually they do their own thing involving a circle and clapping. Before performances, our drum majors come down the line, hugging everyone in the band (minus the pit because of their equipment), and at least one someone will pick one of the DMs up in a huge bear hug, and refuse to let said DM down or release the restricting hold, claiming it's for luck. pirate

our section (saxes)messes with the section leader (it's ok cause he's one of my best friends) and we headbut which really hurts sometimes in the warmup circles we have a c**k (our plume) fight which is really funny and I do have to say that we are the weirdest section in almost every band from reading these

We have a few traditions from the alto sax section. We have this hand motion where we hit our fists together and say "Gwah!" Apparently it used to be a full band tradition, but since I've been in the band, only the altos have continued it. We also have finger excersizes we preform, which include various obscene gestures, including female masturbation, middle fingers, and other such things.
One final tradition we came up with this year, but have sworn to keep it up, is when we're being tapped off while leaving a game, our section chants "T..H...S... go spartans!" to the beat. And we have a chant while entering football games. "Don't stop, let's kick it, now let's put some bass in it!" followed by pelvic thrusts and sexual moaning to the beat. From what I've heard, the chant was made up by a band mom years and years back. How'd it evolve into THAT? xd

In my section (trombone) I always go around to everyone and ask them if they are nervous. When they say yes I tell 'em "don't be nervous!! it's like camp only with 100 people staring at you!!!" if they say no i say "Good. But it's always good to be slighty nervous."

Us trumpets just slap the top of eachother's hats and says, "good luck." The low brass has this good luck buddha that they pass around and kiss. And I'm pretty sure the saxophones pray to their section leaders, like they're God? The last one is just creepy.

It seems our band does a lot before performance. We seem like such a religious band. x3 We say the Lord's Prayer then we sing our band song (it's so awesome), then the saxophones do their thing: "Saxes, what saxes what, saxes, saxes, what, what, SAXES!" Then other people make their own parody "Saxes suck, saxes suck, saxes, saxes, suck, suck, saxes. " biggrin DD
