"Oh..." she said while nodding. Yei either heard her stomache growl or just actually felt hungry herself. Berries? "Aren't those poisonious?" lifting her head higher and sniffing the air. Smelling the sweet smell of the wild fruits.

There wasn't much to do but sit and chat at this time. Winter was coming and Zeda hated it. "Do you like winter? Have you ever slipped on ice?" so far she has learnt a lot from this mare and she was quite happy about it. Glad that she has met Yei, maybe she should stick around with this mare, because she knows her role model NightShade is also new here and recently just mated with a stallion named Calamity. Which meant no time to spend on this little filly.

"Only some are..." Yei replied gently as she pressed her muzzle against the branch and pushed it down to Zeda's level. "These trees are not poisonous to us, the ones with the leaves shaped like clouds are though." She continued, well aware that the leaves on this berry bush were more triangular and therefore easier to recognise than others.

"As for winter." She hesitated and seemed to consider this question carefully. She supposed in ways she did like it, the snow that covered the lands like a blanket, readying it for new life was a sight to behold, so were the icicles within the caverns. In all honesty, it was like a winter wonderland to her and for that reason she enjoyed it, but sometimes, it didn't stop her getting a little lonely.

"I do like winter, it makes some very beautiful sights." She gave her answer at last and pursed her lips, "Take the mountains for example, there are caves riddling it and during the winter strange see-through spikes start to hang from the ceilings. When you whicker, they vibrate and make music." She cooed and then shook her head, the berry branch by her muzzle shivering slightly.

"But sometimes it gets lonely, most soquili come down here to rest during the winter while my home remains in the mountains. I think that is the only problem I have with winter." It was only the last part of the question that made Yei's eyes fill with a great deal of pain, almost as though the memory of the injury still plagued her.

"And yes, I slipped on the ice but it was a very long time ago..."

Zeda started to picked the berries off the branch and place them gently by her hoof. After she had collected enough, she stopped and began to feast on the fruits. They were delicious the juice suqirting out of each one as she bit into them. The solid parts tasted great too. Mmmmm...

Another new thing to learn about! Leaves that were shaped like clouds, is there such a thing? If there was, Zeda must see with her very own eyes.

After finishing the pile of berries, she fell onto her bottom and focussed on what Yei had to say. Zeda hated winter in everyway, she hated the snow covering and hiding the ice under. How she fell and slipped on ice many times as she walked out here. Ice was already forming and the air got cooler. Although snow hasn't started falling just yet. Zeda knew it would be soon though.

Icicles making music in a cave? Interesting. She must test out that theory one day. Smiling up at Yei as she licked her lips to clear of the berrie juice that was still stuck around her mouth.

Curiousity was killing the filly, she wanted to know more about Yei and why she had such a hurt look in her eyes. Something told her not to ask, but Zeda just couldn't resist. "What happend?" tilting her little her. Her face looked so innocent and almost looked like she was begging for Yei to tell her why. Did something bad happen? Did someone die? Was there blood everywhere?

"I..." Yei's eyes filled with pain again and she simply shook her head, the memories of that day were clouded and she could barely remember anything other than the excruciating pain that had embraced her the moment it had happened. "I honestly, can barely recall." She confessed, releasing a sigh as she let go of the branch and lay down once more, her gaze trained on the ground.

"It happened so fast, I can only assume I hit my head pretty hard." Again she sighed, cleared her throat and lifted her gaze as a small smile played on her lips. "But I do remember that it was a very bad day, the weather was horrible and I can recall slipping - I was only young, a couple of years older than you." She gave a shudder as colourful images swarmed into the front of her mind coupled with the lashing rains and dark sky.

"And I fell, and fell, and fell." She paused briefly, raising a brow as she recalled the endless silence and the sudden impact of the jagged rock right against her breast.

"Then I landed on a rock and it tore open my front, no one came for me...it was merely by chance that my two-legger found me and even then he was not sure I would recover from my wounds." She released a chuckle and shook her head slowly, eyeing the young filly thoughtfully, "Try not to explore the mountainsides when the weather is bad."

Curious of what migth happen when she could go to the mountain side, something kept telling her not to and listen to others. But another part told a different story. Zeda looked at Yei's chest and tilted her head. There were no scars, no nothing. "Where are the scars?" maybe she was wrong about her guess in the head, maybe not everytime you hurt yourself you'll get a scar.

"Oh boy your strong then...I mean you survived." pretty impressed by the mare's story, Zeda wanted to be just as tough as Yei. Although falling off a moutain didn't sound so pretty.

Her nexk muscles made her head turn and look to the tall high mountains that stood tall in the dictance. Her heart pounded, why was she getting an uneasy nervous feeling. Was something going to happen to her if she ever got close to the huge hills? No one knows. "Hah..." she sighed as the cool breeze rushed by quickly and clouds started rolling in. They quickly covered the sun and made it darker and more stormy looking.

For sure it was garantee to snow very soon. When? That was the question. There were many questions Zeda had on her mind. So little time to answer them all.

"I wasn't strong, I was just very lucky that day." Yei replied softly, smiling at how quickly the filly leapt to conclusions. When she had been that young, the fiery mare had been the same, certain that anyone who could survive such injuries would have been a powerful creature but alas, it always turned out to be luck and the spirits...

"As for the scars." Backing away slightly the mare readied herself and with a snort, heaved herself into the air. Balancing on her hind legs, she was able to hold up her forelegs to reveal the long scar along the bottom of her chest. It stopped just before her abdomen and was partially faded but there was a clear line in her coat which indicated that the hair had regrown in a somewhat untidy manner over an uneven surface.

"All I can say -" She fell to the ground again and gave herself a shake, her ears swivelling round as though she had picked up a tell-tale or familiar sound on the winds, "Is that if you ever decide to explore the mountains, ensure you have someone who knows the way with you...or grow used to the slopes in the summer so you know where to hide when the weather gets worse." She finished softly.

Zeda looked at the scar and was shocked to find it now. It was all along hiding. It looked hurtful and by just looking at it, it showed a story it self. The mark made her uneasy, which caused her to shift a little bit. "Lucky?" she coldn't take her eyes off the scar. Then shaking her head as Yei fell back on all fours. "That looks like a very cool mark but ouchy." nodding. At least she was still alive today. Zead had still believe Yei was strong instead of just being plain lucky.

The filly once again turned towards the mountain. Finding it so mysterious. It got foggy near the top of the mountain. You could see the wind blowing a bit of dust up into the air, making patterns and shapes in the blue sky. Her eyes followed it and then her eyes went beyond the mountains. Spotting something where she has never seen before, and so much had come out of this conversation, she can barely remember if Yei had spoken of this certain place. "What is that?" asked the curious young female.

The place was sandy and peach looking. Dust was everywhere flying up and down. There were small hills of sand. Zeda couldn't see anything else but sand and little hills of the tan grains covering the land past the mountains. Maybe a beach? A very big beach?

"It was painful when it occured but now, it's not that sore and it does look impressive when you show it to everyone." Yei agreed, smiling affectionately at the foal who was vast becoming something that Yei could be fond of anytime she saw her. Admittedly, the foal had been quite rude to her in the beginning but now that she was comfortable, Zeda appeared to be much more approachable and much politer!

"As for that..." She trained her eye on what Zeda was focused on, pausing for a few moments to regain her bearings. Was that? Ahhh, she was looking towards the desert where Strife had emerged in all his disorientated glory.

"That would be the desert, it goes far beyond the eye and is only sand! Water is very hard to come by there and it's very, very hot...Unbearable almost. I've only ever been there once."

Sounded like an incredible place full of adventures. Wind picked up and the sand danced across the blue sky. Sparkling like stars at night, instead this was during the day. "Ohhh..." it interested her more as she saw no tree were able to be spotted in the sandy area. "Why isn't there any water? It's sometime hot in the forest but you still find water..." this made no sense to Zeda. How would the creatures there survive? Will they die of thirst? Oh well who cares, not like she was living there.

Spotting a boulder deep in the ground, Zeda trotted over and stood on top. It wasn't that high, it was only halfway up to Zeda's legs and she was tiny. Reaching the top the huge rock was able to increase her height a little bit. Her eyes scanned further into the ditance. Nothing but sand. Just as Yei had explained it and what Zeda imagined, there were no trees, no plants, and no blue spots which would represent water. Also not a single living being was seen.

It looked like an endless area, the sand would just pile on and on, further anf further. This kinda gave Zeda the chills, what happened if you were to reach there and walk through it. Thinking you know the way back, when really you were just walking in circles and you could barely see the mountains or the forest or your home anymore. Zeda shivered a bit but promised herself not to go to the desert alone.

"I'm really not sure...." Yei confessed for the first time, lifting herself to her full height as she joined Zeda's side and trailed her gaze across the thin horizon. Glowing a vibrant gold in the mid-day sun, it was a haunting, yet beautiful sight to her and she had often admired it from the high reaches of the slopes - she'd never tried to venture towards it though.

"Maybe the spirits decided that they should have a place like that, one made only for creatures who didn't need a lot of water or those who thribed on extreme heat?" She mused, flicking her gaze back towards the young filly now perched on the boulder, from her small vantage point the foal really couldn't see a great deal.

"You know, you can see it much better from the mountainside and it's much warmer to." She began, swivelling her ears round to admire the horizon again, "Would you like me to show you?"

Off to the mountainside? Judging by the name, Zeda knew it must be by the mountain since it is called mountainside. She nodded and hopped off the boulder gently swinging her own tail. It normally didn't matter to her, but the desert really caught her attention.

Zeda wanted to know much about it. Were there other different species over there? The spirits? "Spirits? What are they?" frowing as this confused her more. What would they be? Are they strong? Her brain was gathering all these info quite quickly. Today was definetly a day for Zeda to learn as much as possible. Then she'll run home and tell her whole family.

The clouds has disappeared and the sun has made it's way down to touching Zeda's skin. Warming her up instantly. Perfect. She thought with a smile on the outside. Now she was ready for some fun and travaling. "We are going to the mountain right?..." Zeda wanted to check, just in case she had heard wrong.

More wind blew and her mane flew away from her neck making small little waves. The filly gazed up the Yei, hoping they would go, it'll definetly make her day. Nothing like meeting another and taking a nice and full of long word talk. Then off to some place that she has never been to.

"Well spirits are the beings that make the world change around us, they're magical." She murmured softly as she began to walk towards the forest trails that would lead them up into the mountains, "Some are good and some are bad, some are just there while others..." She released a sigh and turned her gaze towards the top of the mountain, a place that had always seemed vaguely familiar to her for some reason.

"...Some spirits are born through our ancestors, when they pass a way they become spirits. Well, that was what I was told anyway." Yei released a small chuckle, a male voice creeping into her mind. It was young, delicate and word for word, explained to her where the spirits had come from - she had no idea who it was though, someone from her past no doubt.

"Some guide us when we're lost while others will hurt us, it really depends on our luck." She gave a shrug and with a whicker, slipped into the forest, her hooves following the familiar (and somewhat battered) forest trail, which eventually began to slope upwards gently. "One day you'll meet one no doubt, or at least feel their presence." She nodded reassuringly, the smile lingering on her lips as she took a left and began to circle around the slopes up the mountain, weaving in and out of the trees as she navigated her way towards the desert's edge.

"If you ever spot a leather-winged soquili, known as a kalona, you should ask them about the spirits...they seem to know a lot."

Her tiny little feet quickly followed her friend. Yei was now considered her friend. Or someone she should respect, since she has taught her so much. "Okay..so I'll be able to see these...spirits?" tilting her head still not getting it. How will they look like? Do they look funny? "Passed away? That means what?" Zeda didn't know if this was too much to ask but she really wanted to know it all and find out. This all made her curious of the creatures called spirits.

"Kalonas? Never heard of those...are they spirits too?" Zeda wondered and thought, repeating the word Kalona in her head over and over. No definetion was to fill in for her. Although the word did give a dangerous feeling to her. Wait...leather-winged? Doesn't her grandma have that? Grandma Nightshade. Now she got it, so grandma was a kalona...

No sounds came from both sides of their trail. Not even a living creature was seen. It wasn't night time...why don't they come out to play. Well this didn't matter but Zeda just hated the dead silent around the two of them. Does that mean if they talk any louder, anyone else in the woods can her them talking since it is dead silent?
PostPosted: Fri Dec 15, 2006 5:41 pm

Yei was silent for a while, a part of her considered the foal far too young ot know about life and death but another thought it was best she understood it from the beginning. Grimacing, the mare seemed torn, on one hand she would be inclined to tell the young filly but another part of her reminded her that she wan't this one's mother - no, in all honesty she was a mother to no foal, it hurt, but she had learnt to live with it.

"Ask your parents what it means." She offered a small smile, indicating that communication with parents was something she considered to be very important as well...if she had foals, she would have wanted them to talk to her or come to her if they needed anything.

"But no, a Kalona is not a spirit - they just guide them." She explained, lifting her head somewhat as the forests cleared and she gave a whicker of recognition. Surprisingly, as they drew near the deserts i began to warm up again and the snow that had been o nthe slopes seemed to lessen and thin.

"Is this what you wanted to see?" She enquired, slowing her pace once more as she came to a ledge over looking the desert.

Zeda had forgotten what they were chatting about when they set their eyes on the peachy scene. It was beautiful, the sand slided and glided across the sandy ground. Making more markings in the soft yet very hot grain. This indeed felt like a beach to young Zeda. Her eyes blinked a few times because some pieces had landed on her face which found it's way to her eyes. "Wow..." nodding like she approved of the site. Imagining how it would be like just to live in a weather like that, never a spot of snow seen. How it'd be an adventure to run freely through it. Although she can run freely where she lived right now, but the place was nothing like this.

"Yei, what is that?" A small green plant sat not too far away. How funny it had looked, with spikes coming out of itself. Then a gorgeous pink flower and bloomed ontop of the spikey plant. Looking like if you touch it, the spikes will poke through your skin, which is what it'll probably do. Another smaller one of it grew next to the older one, that one had no flower but instead it had spikes of it's own. "They look...deadly." that was all Zeda could see fromher view of it.
