Staring at the popcorn with visible fascination, Dacian reached over to grab a piece.

"I've never had 'popcorn' before...I've seen it, but never eaten it. What exactly is it, anyway?"

It was strange and puffy looking, but...well, it seemed like people enjoyed it; so he popped the piece he'd taken into his mouth. It only took a few more moments before he was grinning in approval, and reaching for more.

"Its texture is really different from most things."

Tristan grined. The mage was amusing. "It's popped corn," he gave the smart a** reply first. "Its corn kerns, heated up until they kinda explode and get all puffy and... fluffy." he had never been really good at explaining things.

Tristan took a handful for himself and devoured it. He loved the stuff. He was probably going to get sick of it soon because it was the only thing he ever ate, but for now he would eat as much as he could as often as possible.

"Its my favourite food, all I ever eat."

The mage rolled his eyes at the first comment, making a face. He took another handful, himself, as he registered the actual explanation. It didn't really make much sense, but it was kind of interesting...corn kernels.

This came from a vegetable?!

"If this is all you ever eat, your stomach must be very fluffy."

Dacian shot back his rather smart-assed comment as well, with mischief in his eyes. It was a very...strange mental image. A fluffy stomach...well, on a dog sure - but it was really strange to envision on a human.

Tristan started to laugh. That comment created a far too amusing mental image. He put a hand over his mouth to muffle the sound so not to distract to much from the movie, but he was laughing rather hard, turning a bit red too.

He tried to think of something smart and/or witty to say in reply, something to be equally as funny but since he was laughing so hard his brain stopped functioning properly, so he kept laughing, snorting a little too.

While Dacian chuckled at first, he couldn't restrain further laughter that followed. It wasn't because his own statement was that amusing, but rather because Tristans reaction was so amusing. This was the sort of laughter that turned out to be quite infectious.

"You know, if I'd known I'd get a response like that, I think I'd let my mouth answer before my mind catches up more often."

Except that three quarters of the time, when he did that, the statements really didn't make much sense. Ah well, the joys of an illogical mind.

"If you like laughter I'm a good person to hang out with," Tristan said as he calmed down a little and was able to actually talk, " I laugh a lot, and loudly." He hated it sometimes, that he laughed like a dork at almost anything but if it helped him get a friend than what did it matter?

He wanted to carry on the conversation but he wasn't sure how to so he simply he slid down in his seat a little and put his feet up on the coffee table, what he usually did when he was watching movies. relaxing as much as he possibly could. By the end of the movie he would have sunk so low he'd have to fall off the couch to get up again.

"I'll have to hang out with you some more then," A grin on his face as he said this, but it was true; if Tristan laughed a lot, then it sounded perfect. Dacian always liked spending time with cheerful people; it lifts your own mood. Even if his mood was slightly on the manic side, an improvement was always good.

Though honestly, some people wouldn't call him being any more cheerful an improvement. He just saw things...a bit differently.

Watching the movie for a bit, Dacian propped his chin on his hands. The movie was good, but he was always more for conversation then anything else...

"So what do you do for a living?"
PostPosted: Tue Nov 28, 2006 8:26 pm

What did he do for a living. The dreaded question. He hated to admit that he worked at McDonalds. Then again, Dacian might not know the embarassment that was a Mcjob.

"I... flip burgers, possibly the most degrading job in the world," so why not tell him. Tristan needed to work on the brain moving faster than the mouth thing, he did it all the time. "I worked with animals once upon a time, but that was a long time ago."

"Do you have a job around here, aside from the finding guardians?" he had done it again with the animals, he didn't want to mention that, but it was too late, now was the time to change the subject.

Dacian, as Tristan suspected, had no idea that McDonalds was a degrading job. He hadn't been here long enough to understand the jokes and the way people viewed the workers there. To him, 'flipping burgers' seemed just like working in an inn would back home.

Not exactly the best job in the world, but nothing to be ashamed of.

"I take care of the gardens!"

Dacian beamed at this; being a gardener wasn't the most honorable job out there either, but he enjoyed it.

"Hadrian takes care of all the paperwork, thank the Gods...I don't think I could handle being in an office all day. Or...well, doing whatever it is that Ahneta does. She'll be a teacher eventually, but the Souls are all too young right now."

Tristan's smile faultered for a moment at the mention of gardens. Plants in general depressed him, but he tried to hide it. Forcing himself not to think about it he smiled again.

"I actually like offices. I had one once, mind you I don't think I did a lot of work in there, but I liked the room," work had nothing to do with why he liked his office, but the reasons weren't something you told someone you just met. They were rather... inapporiate and his best friend didn't even know all the details. even thinking of it made Tristan blush a little.

He picked up his glass of water though taking a long sip, trying to hide his face behind the actual glass.

It was a random, quick change of emotion, happy to sad to embarassed, he hoped it went unnoticed.

Dacian, being the oblivious person that he was, managed to miss the other man's initial reaction to him being a gardener. He did catch the sudden blush after the comment about officework however, and briefly wondered what it was that made it embaressing.

Maybe he thought it was silly that he liked officework? Though he wouldn't think that, considering that he knew Hadrian was not silly, and that was all Hadrian ever seemed to do. In his twisted logic, that was enough to prove that office work wasn't embaressing.

The real reason never even crossed his mind as the slightest of possibilities.

Wrinkling his nose and chuckling, Dacian just shook his head, "I'll leave people like you and Hadrian to your offices. I need open spaces and greenery - I'd go insane if I was stuck inside all day. More then I am, anyway..."

Rubbing his chin in a 'thoughtful' manner, the mischievous glint in his eyes betrayed his real intentions...though when he spoke, those became obvious.

"I can just imagine the havoc I could cause if I actually had a legitimate excuse, like insanity...ah, how fun that would be."
PostPosted: Thu Nov 30, 2006 8:18 pm

Tristan was happy his mood change had gone unnotice. With comments of havoc and insanity he grinned again.

"Havoc is fun," he said, "I'm not much of a trouble maker myself, well not any more at least, I remember this one time back in university we dyed the school mascot purple..." he paused to think for a moment, "I'm pretty sure we dyed multiple things purple. My friends had a thing for the colour purple."

Tristan and his friends had been bad kids in university. Well more they had been bad and dragged Tristan into it, he ahd usually been the wet blanket. But everything they did was fun.

"What was the school mascot?"

Some things would look fairly normal - or at least not too odd - in purple. A purple turtle, a purple tiger...strange, but not really weird. But he had been here long enough to understand certain references, and the idea of a purple dinosaur as a mascot...

Ah...it was entertaining, to be sure.

"I remember when I was in the Academy - there was an academy you went to, to become a mage - there were so many pranks that went on. Though you'd have to be far beyond crazy to try and prank one of the full mages."
PostPosted: Fri Dec 01, 2006 7:58 pm

"It was a goat," Tristan replied, "I'm not sure how a goat is suppose to intimadate people in like a sports event, or how its suppose to inspire and motivate, but it was a goat."

The thought of pranks and magic combined was another of those truely amusing thoughts to Tristan. He didn't laugh as hard as he did before, but he snickered and snorted a little.

"I can imagine how amusing that would be, with the magic and what not," he paused for a second, "do you mind me asking what kind of magic you can do?"

"My magic is through spoken words - or sounds, anyway. I know that some called it a 'language', but it isn't really - it's just that certain things are associated with specific sounds and tones."

Magic..now there was the interesting topic concerning the three mages. Each of them had been taught a different branch of magic, after all...even though two of them were from the same country.

"Though, it isn't the same with the others. Hadrian for example, uses gestures. It all just depends on which 'school' we were taught in."

Ah, the pranks...he could remember so many, some even involved with changing the color of things. Though somehow, he didn't think the people here would manage a prank to turn all the plants around the buildings to various shades of neon polka-dots.
