I agree. All of you are making a big deel about precussion, well, the trumpet players that i know are all wierd and do some funny stuff at times.

xD Because you have to have confidence to drum, you can't lightly and be passionate about it when you're not supposed to. When you practice the only way to turn it down is to play on a drum pad but that's like doodling versus having a painting that could be hung up on a wall, it's not the same thing. When you crash a cymbal anything other than playing it with the correct force sounds like s**t. Anyone can set a tempo, thing is can you play throughtout an entire show without stopping to keep tempo, can you be reliable? It's a difficult instrument if you're being serious and want to aquire real endurance and agility to play more than a few paradiddles. Cockiness is just a jackass version of confidence. And why drummers are jackasses, I dunno- seeing that not all of 'em are jackasses like how not all drummers are cocky. wink

also...when u play an instrument, especially the drums, you have to play wiht heart so the audience knows how the song really goes, otherwise u might as well have robots playing the piece.

heart major love for that one!

People say the same thing about drums at my school. people complain about the drumline getting a little extra attention saying "Drums arent that hard" and "They dont even have to practice! I dont think they even do!"
when thats the farthest thing from the truth. we practice all the time to be as good as we are, we even had practice from 2:00 to 8:30 because we had a comp and wanted to be as close to perfect as possible.
so when people say things like "Drums are easy" and "Why are drummers so cocky" it makes me sad that they cant see the hard work that drummers and percussionists do, and the passion that we have for what we are playing.

I'm in pit and i must say that (from experience) drums are harded that a xylophone. The stuff they have our drummers doing is amazing. Our drummers aren't all that great though. Over half are druggies, but at least they're never stoned during practice. We have a freshmen that almost made tenor. They can be cocky, but so can all the other instuments.

I play the Tenors (quints) Yes with the scrapes and the crossovers and the sweeps. Yeah Only the bass drums keep the tempo. Have you ever seen snare music. There is no way you can keep tempo with that. The bass drum doesnt even keep the tempo that much. With all the rudiments drummers have to know you have no room to talk. I had a solo that went 200bpm and had 32 crossovers in 5 lines. You try that. Now to be fare i have tried to play the sax. And i can play the c scale. So Yeah Boo Yah.

Have you ever played a drumset or seen a realy hard snare pant i dont think you have so you need to shut up and stop talking crap that you cant back up. and 2nd of all drummers are cocky because they have to put up with the people that treat us like we are idots. so shut up

why are drummers so cocky??? its not like they have a hard instrument all they have to do is keep tempo i do that playing the a. sax and the baritone...

i've picked up the drums n there not hard... set is but im talking about marching drums...

Drums ARE hard to play, do not underestimate what we do. Everyone has to play different instruments which are ALL equally difficult! (You don't see me trashing what you do)

What we do is pretty hard especially when it come to Snare and Tenors, even the bass drum can be a b***h when you have a slave-driver instructor!!!(not to mention the HELL you have to go through when not every single person on the line gets thier part right!!!) (You don't know our instructor...if only you did *shudders*)

And Drummers are Cocky people because... well actually I don't know( sweatdrop ) but they're some of my favorite people in the world!!!

I might be in guard and have no music lexicon, but I know that drummers have it really hard. We had three drummers quit on us last year because they couldn't handle it.
