Xikrai the Risen aretoo, you will have to explain those clues in greater detail for me. I just don't get it. I watched V for Vendetta and don't get the link, but then again, small details escape a while after I've seen or read something. Well... Dumbledore's always been surrounded with symbols of rebirth, or long life; the philosopher's stone, the phoenix. And he isn't afraid of dying; he considers it another adventure. (I need to re-read them all to be more specific, but...) ^_^ As for Fawkes... he's named after Guy Fawkes, the guy who tried to blow up the British parliment in 1605 (hm... 401 years ago now); he and some fellow Roman Catholic conspirators packed the tunnels under the parliment with gunpowder (1,800 pounds of it), hoping to blow up the king *with* the parliment. Every November 5th is Guy Fawkes day, where they set off fireworks and burn him in effigy. The 5th of November played a fairly pivotal role in V for Vendetta, too.

For some reason I wasnt really surprised about any of the relationships.
The one that really knocked me off was Moony and Tonks at the end. Didnt see that coming. O_O
I for one didn't like Dumbledore. I didn't shed a single tear over him. >->;
I was crying my eyes out when Sirius died. I re-read that chaper(s) 5 or 6 times till I finally believed he did die. I also was a bit depressed when Harry went into the silver stuff of Snape and learned about his past with James, Lupin, and Sirius. crying

Yeah... it sucks that James was such an a**... I wonder if any of that can be chalked up to perspective or youth... but Snape didn't really give Harry a chance to be his own person; he disliked Harry (apparently) for being James' son...

Quite frankly, I felt they were all in character. Actually, I had imagined scenarios similar to these, and they acted the same way I had thought they were. Though, Moony and Tonks...that surprised me. The rest really didn't. Dumbledore, why Dumbledore? I cred as much as I did for Sirius, actually more.

Personally, I thought it was pretty realistic for teenager crushes. And on top of that the characters can't stay the same innocent kids forever. They're growing up and they have to have more developed personalities. I liked book 6 alot because of the changes.

I think the characters misadventures in being teenagers helped the book keep its humor. If it were all serious, it would be depressing.

aretoo Well... with his portrait, he's still not *entirely* gone, even if it's a red herring JK's throwing out. And I'll be rather disappointed if McGonnogal *doesn't* get the Headmistress job. On the other hand... I wonder what percentage thinks Snape was evil all along, and what percentage thinks he's just "getting in the camp" with the Death Eaters. Of course, I still think he's a horse's a**, but that's a little different than being a traitor. I agree with the "Snape is a jerk, but he's not evil" theory. For those who prefer to watch the movies first... that might actually be a good order in which to operate, since they are getting more screwed up and disappointing as time progresses. The producers seem to have made a serious error in the past movie that came out... How are they going to get that important subplot into the next one when they've eliminated the critical factor in making it happen? Talim Ra: If there were no subplots, or misadventures in being humans growing up, the story would be flat and unbelievable. The characters would all be two-dimensional and static, would have no believable motives, and no traits with which the reader can identify. The books would read like history textbooks, rather than relatively lifelike tales that can be envisioned like a movie in one's mind. Oh, by the way, the spoilers are cruel. I had read all but the latest book when i went to the last movie and the guy next to me dropped the bombshell about the big character who dies. I was NOT impressed. razz Wow, I had a lot to say about this. Maybe I should incluse this series in my big thesis paper on the evolution of the fantasy literary genre though the past century when I go for my MA in English.
