I love the Hobb series "Farseer-Tawny Man Trilogy". Does anyone else?

I love that series!!! Have you read the Mad Ship Trilogy also by Robin Hobb? It's so cool!! It ties in with the Farseer and Tawny man trilogies. She is quite the talented authoress.

Who was your favorite character? Mine was the Fool. Fitz was awesome too! I hated Molly though scream

Have you tried her new series?

It's the Liveship Traders trilogy. I, too, fell for the Fool.

And to Obscure, who has read the whole series, I will say that if you read them carefully, the Fool is the main character. The Fitz narrates it, and so, it is a deceptive plot device to take emphasis off of the Fool.

In fact, if the Fool narrated it, Fitz would seem much more dynamic. But when he writes it, that style muffles many of his changes.

To Neri: Yes. Very emotionally draining.

That's all for now!

Wll I just finished reading Assassin's Apprentice, and I thought it was really good. Didn't like the ending very much, I would have liked it if Rurisk hadn't have died but what can you do? Overall a great book, I hope to get the 2nd one in a few weeks, I need a break from reading, my eyes are going to get messed up from personal reading, essays and course material.

I know I've only read one book, but I wouldn't say the fool is the main character, at least not early on. Maybe in the Fool Trilogy, but I haven't read those yet 3nodding . I actually found the fool annoying in the first book, granted he provided a measure of help to Fitz but I just didn't like him. I don't think he contributes anything solid to the story, but maybe he will in the future.

Haha, the Fool is my favourite character, but I kind of agree with you, he was sort of irritating at first. I was always thinking 'Nooo, why don't you do more??' I wouldn't personally say that the Fool is the main character, but he is, despite the lack of emphasis in the first book, a very important one. I consider his presence from the very beginning as a sign of his...uh, status, perhaps you will see that too as you continue reading. biggrin

what is a good book to start on from Robin Hobb? From everything I've heard here, and everywhere else, I really like the sound of her. Especially since Robert Jordan is one of my favourite authors, and people who like him, seem to like her as well 3nodding

Assassin's Apprentice, my dear girl.

And to the two of you:

Hobb's style of writing from the view of Fitz beiles the fact that it is indeed the Fool who is the main character. It took me a while to think this through, considering we see so little of him.

What really convinced me was the second trilogy, The Liveship Traders Trilogy. In this, the Fool gets a seemingly minor role--in a disguise only the Fool could pull off--and again, we see him through everyone else's perspective except his. And again, it is the Fool who points out truth, when everyone else is stuck in their backwards thinking ways--take the Fitz for example--and marches the world forwards. Again.

And somehow, it never gets boring. Hobb is hilarious and touching, detailed and introspective, fresh and inviting and irresistible. Her books read unlike nothing else I've ever read, with a smattering of poetry and resounding truth on every page, and that "deeply involved humanity".

So I ask you two, what more do you want in a book? Or in an author?

It shouldn't be hard to find. It's at every Barnes & Nobles, Borders, and Waldenbooks that I've ever been to, and from what I hear, Chapters has it too.

Libraries are a bit more difficult.... I would just buy them, myself.

Oh, I love Robin Hobb. I read the first two books of the Liveship trilogy- my absolute favorite part is near the end of the first one, where there's the giant storm, and the slaves do their and now the priates do theirs and it's just amazing how real it all is. I read the first two books in about three days, then found out that my library doesn't have the third one! I just about died. So now I'm reading the Solder Son trilogy.

Augh! Now look what you've done. I miss everything, Paragon and Althea and the Wild Rain River. Now I'm gonna go huddle in my room and curse my teeny, tiny library. cry

Gods, woman, just buy it! It's called Ship of Destiny, and it's one of the best conclusions to a trilogy I've ever read!*

Love and Vale,

*The absolute best for me was Fool's Fate, which finished off her nine book series.

P.S. You do know that the first trilogy is The Farseer Trilogy and not The Liveship Traders Trilogy, right?

You know, I think I will go do that. My birthday is this Sunday (18, whoo!) and the only thing I ever ask for is Barnes & Nobel gift cards. 3nodding

I'm just finishing up my second read-through now. Come next year, I might pick them up again. They are addicting.

Leavaros *shivering in a dark alley, despite warm weather*: Do you have it?

Man-in-Black-Hoodie *worried*: Dude, maybe you should take it easy--

Leavaros *crazed*: Do you have it or not!

MiBH: Chill, man, it's right here.

Leavaros *inhales scent of fresh books coming from a paper bag*: Oh, that's the stuff.

Love and Vale,
