"Bah." Was her only word of defense. She knew he was right... but still. Maybe she should put her words differently. "How about 'I wish I had a boyfriend while I was still human'?" Yellow gaze looked back up to him as she popped another strawberry into her mouth.

"Fair enough..." Sid said, leaning back in his chair. "I kinda wissh I hadn'n ******** up my life, too... But what can you do?"

"Nothing, it seems." Amaya shrugged after finishing her strawberry. "Wish I woulda stayed at the orphanage." She frowned and drank the rest of her water.

Afterwards she looked back up at him. "You don't havta answer if you don't wanna, but how'd they get you here?"

"You're just full of sunshine, aren't you?" Sid said. He eyed the few remaining shrimp, but decided against anything more. Before answering Amaya's question, he pulled his cane up so he could examine the writing etched on it. That, at least, helped to keep his expression from showing too much.

"Said it was a physical therapy retreat..." He tapped his cane in his hand. "This isn't because I'm old- an' I'm not- it's cause I had a motorth-- motorcycle acciden'."

Amaya laughed. "One huge ball of sunshine. Normally I'm better than this, but a couple of things back to back has me a little depressed." Like that wasn't obvious enough.

She eyed his cane, then frowned. "Oh... well... it might work." She looked back to his face. "I know a guy who grew an arm back because of all this. Though I doubt being turned into anything would really be worth it... At least it's a perk?" Her narrow shoulders gave a shrug.

"I heard about tha'... but we'll see." Sid lay his cane back in his lap so he could rub his jaw. That, he knew, was only going to get worse. He brushed his hair from his face and thought about maybe requesting a blow dryer.

It took a little effort to drag his mind back to the conversation at hand. "Whass got you so down, then?" he asked. "Besides the obvious."

Amaya sighed, begining to get used to people asking. It was her fault anyway for bringing it up, wasn't it? Ah well. "Boy troubles. Found out the guy I liked doesn't like me. My parents death anniversary was about... a week or two ago. Same with my birthday."

Sid nodded his head slowly, then brushed back the strands of hair that had escaped from behind his ear. "That'll do it," he agreed. "Suppose he didn'n let you down gently, did he?"

"Not really... yelled at me." The teenager frowned and looked down at her empty bowls. She started to stack them up for when she finally did get up and take them back.

"Men are dicks like that." Sid said, his tone a little too bright to be reassuring. "You jus' have to find the one you're least inclined to slap around. Thass wha' they call a soul mate."

Amaya raised a nonexistant brow, her head cocking sharply to the side in slight confussion. "Slap around? I wouldn't slap him around. Or any guy, really." She wondered what he meant by such a thing.

Sid laughed, he couldn't help it. "Ohhh, man..." he said once it died away. "I... heh... you'll learn, okay? Trust me."

The girl gave him an odd look. "Ooookaay..." She blinked and flickered her tongue.

"I better go though." She stood up and smoothed out her skirt. Spinning the chair around she carefully gathered her empty bowls into her huge palms. "Was nice meetin' ya though, Sid." She smiled.

"Seriouth... ah, seriously, though... I can give you all kinds of bullshit advice, bu'..." Sid made a throwing away gesture. "You lean in time. Ideally. Hell, I still haven't, but... Aw, listen to me."

He snickered and picked up another shrimp, shaking his head over his babbling. At least that meant he was more or less back on the level, however long that lasted. "And I'll see ya around."

Amaya paused in her trip towards the plate dropoff, standing next to the table. "Appriciate it, but I don't think any advice will help. Not until people start thinking giant lizards are attractive." She gave a sad smile.

She didn't leave just yet. It wasn't like she had any place to be anyway.
