Okay, first of all, Howl's Moving Castle was out in Blockbuster under the "New Releases" so I didn't know that this was "so last year".
D:
Anyways, what time is he basing these movies on? I didn't know that!!
I figured that Howl's Moving Castle was based in Britan or Europe? D:
I was very confused on this. I think the point he was making was that war was really stupid and that plain girls get the guy, too.
Christian Bale. *goes to look it up* !!! Howl is played by Christian Bale.
Christian Bale is coming up in The Prestige. He has a hot voice!!

HAWT.
Kiki's Delivery was the first of his movies that I've seen.
Spirited Away was the second and this is the third. I didn't really like Spirited Away because it was really wierd and the main character is a 12 year old.
Howl's has characters that are atleast in thier young 20s. No?

Ooh, I want to go see The Prestige...right after I get around to seeing The Illusionist. Two 19th-century magician-themed movies coming out within a couple months of each other? Huh.

I think the Pompoko animals were tanuki, or Japanese "raccoon dogs."

I Love Japanese Fertility Critters. When I went to Japan. There was a tall Tanuki Statue in Kyoto with long hanging balls. Also there are Figurines in which when you would first look you would think it had some tiny feet, but it really was just large Testis. It's So Horrible... Its Awesome.

Another running theme with Miyazaki is his notion on female empowerment, especially with young girls. That's why nearly every one of his movies has a strong female lead; I personally support the concept.

Spirited Away would've lost a lot of its message if Sen had been any older; the entire idea was that kids these days were forgetting their roots and the traditions that their modern lives were built upon. It was supposed to teach an appreciation for both parents and heritage.

Howl's was set in the typical psuedo-Germanic-not-quite-Sweden land that so many anime seem to enjoy depicting these days. It did seem a little rushed to me in some spots; especially those with The Witch and the flashbacks...but then, most of Miyazaki's works have a habit of kind of jumping from topic to topic without any particularly strong segue. I kind of like it that way though; it makes things seem more realistic since, in real life, all events aren't directly connected by a single easily traceable line of occurances. Unfortunately, it does leave one in want from the vague WTF-Just-Happened?-O_o issue.

You can't deny quality animation when you see it, though. Everything that happened in Princess Mononoke was just amazing to watch. I wasn't too impressed by the animation in Spirited Away, though a few scenes in particular stuck with me; the look of the chicken Sen's dad eats whole, the POV shot when Haku flies with Sen on the bridge near the beginning of the film, and anything No-Face and the Sludge-Monster do. ^_^ I still crack up laughing everytime I see Sen do that full-body-bristle when she smells the Sludge-Monster coming.

Aside: While Howl may be hotter than Baron, I still maintain Baron's badass-superiority over all others. Even Alucard. He's just that badass.

*seconds the opinion that The Cat Baron is the most badass cat ever*

I like the kind of alternate-past setting that some of Miyazaki's movies are set in. The worlds of Laputa, Howl, and to a certain extent Kiki's, are an interesting blend of past and alternate modern technology. Even Princess Mononoke; it's a feudal Japan-type era, but with guns. One of the best descriptions of this I've found is (from a review of "Howl's Moving Castle"): "the present's reminiscence of the past's vision of the future."
Something like that.

:3333 I couldn't help but laugh when the wolf grabbed that guys head in mononoke and shook it around XDD me and my brothers laughed so hard... it was supposed to be funny, but it shook so fast one couldn't help but laugh

Arguably Howl's best scene, if you ask me. ^_^ I was on the floor laughing during his whole despression...Cheer up, Emo-Wizard.

KStu: you laughed too when the wolf gnawed on Ashitaka's head? ^_^; We think alike...it was just so sudden it struck me as funny. He'd barely even hit the ground before it was chomping on him. Another part I always laugh at (but probably shouldn't) is the absolutely baffled look on the brigand's face when Ashitaka shoots his arms off with an arrow and he doesn't realize what's happened yet.

That, and I always make a 'pop' sound when another of the brigands gets his head shot off from like, ten miles away. ^^;

Soooo....on the badass-o-meter, we've got...

Howl, third place. He could be badass, but he's too emo.
Ashitaka, second place. Accidentally badass, but badass nonetheless.
Baron, grand champion. He's a badass and a snappy dresser...plus he makes his own tea, waltz, and is obviously at least 1/3 ninja. There's just no arguing with that.

I saw Princess Mononoke when it first came out.
Probably the only anime I've ever seen in theatres around here. xd

Besides that, I've seen Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle.

Princess Mononoke was a feast for the eyes, it was just wonderful from start to finish.

I didn't expect Spirited Away to be very good, actually. And, of course, it was.

Howl's Moving Castle was just cool, I love that movie.

Also, NOBODY can out-badass Alucard. mad

Meh, Mr T is so much badder than Alucard.

Does Alucard have his own Cereal?
