"I don't know...I don't...I don't know..." She lay her head down on her forelegs repeating this as though it were a mantra of sorts. Her mind was in turmoil. She couldn't admit to herself that she did not love Kohana. She was glad he would be a good father, but that did not mean she loved him. There was just something missing there, some element that kept sparks away. "Shadow...I'm so sorry...I don't..."

"You don't have to be sorry for anything, miss Luna... I'm happy for you... you'll be a good mother, I know you will. I'll... I'll be there to cheer you on," he offered lamely, giving her another sad smile. There wasn't much else he could do for her, he realized. Anything else he could offer would be the father's job, really. "I'm sure you'll be happy. Don't be sorry..."

"I...I'm glad..." She turned, sky colored curls flying out in a sudden breeze. There was the scent of rain on the air, it brought back memories from not to long ago. "Shadow...I...I should get home...Mushyn Tala will be worried..." It was not the best lie, in fact it was rather poor. It was the only way she'd be able to stop her self from breaking down however. If she began to cry again, he would worry and then...blame him self. It was best to simply leave.

Shadow could see it for what it was- an excuse- but he couldn't blame her in the least. Still, it made him wonder- would she ever be able to deal with him again? He wasn't sure if he could keep his promise and stick around if it was always just to dodge around the subject like they'd been doing... but if it was for her benefit, he'd try. Forcing another smile, he nodded and stood up, gently supporting her larger form as he helped her stand. "All right, miss Luna... be careful getting back, all right?"

"I...I will..." she mumbled staggering to her feet. Standing seemed to be getting harder and harder for her. "I will see you...some other time Shadow..." That being said Lunathiel turned to walk back to the village praying that her tears were not showing. How would she be able to face him again. There was no way. Once she felt she was out of sight she ran the rest of the way home, at least as fast as she could.

Golden eyes watched her azure form fade into a miniscule speck in the distance, an overwhelming grief overtaking his features as he barely caught sight of her breaking into a run. He had the distinct feeling that he wouldn't be seeing her anytime soon of her own accord... and that hurt perhaps more than anything else. It wasn't enough that he had to lose her love to someone else, but he wasn't allowed her friendship, either.
Slowly, painfully, he turned and started towards the dark forest that was all he considered home, trudging heavily until his ebony form melted into the shadows.
