Well, I think Hello Nasty'd be fine if you limit the extent that it can do. Death is too extreme, but vomiting, chills, fever, and all that other stuff is fine with me.

Out of curiosity, you going to roll a die to determine which comes out? They mentioned at Fanime a die rolling system'd be coming soon, so that might be a good way to do it.

I just assumed that since I said the effect was random that people could come up with their own symptoms and RP from there, I never really planned on death coming into play, I was just using that as an example to show the wide effects the diseases can have.

Yeah, that was the plan.
That seems fine to me. Letting people come up with their own ought to be fine, but maybe once the die rolling system is up, you could roll for severity and they could factor in whatever other factors are present, like fire guy's suceptability as a result of inbreeding and thus a weakened immune system.

Alright.

And I think I'll change my characters personality a bit. Maybe instead of being fearful of getting close to people he can just be afraid of his power or something.

Okay, so I figured I'd give it a shot, and started typing. Looking back, it seems I have trouble figuring out when to stop typing. Eek. sweatdrop

This character was originally an NPC I created for a D&D campaign; many of the details of her history wouldn't quite work out as they were originally plotted, so I've rewritten a great deal of the history. There are, however, a number of details which I've still lifted from D&D, and I'm simply not going to change them out of sheer laziness. So nyah. I'm also pretty much making it all up as I go along, so this may be subject to change or refinement. If it doesn't quite fit in with the setting, I can shift things around, as well.

The (Frickin' Huge) Back story:

The largest continent of one of the worlds connected by Lethe is a land embroiled in a war so ancient, most of its combatants have forgotten how it started. Some historians, however, theorize that it somehow related to a cow. Or perhaps a pair of hedge clippers.

The armies in this ancient war rages between the creatures of the mountains and those of the flatlands. From the craggy peaks and in the caverns deep below the mountains come a race of hideous troll-like beasts. These are the Grighmflt, who feel that the continent on which they live is named Sprkzlat. Large, strong, and exceedingly violent, these creatures also possess technology in weapons production which far surpasses that of their enemies. (Note that this level would still be considered primitive by modern-day Earth standards.) They are a highly-organized race, and firmly believe that they will be the eventual victors of this war.

On the other end are the creatures of the surrounding flatlands -- the humans of Cehntenal, who would argue that the continent's proper name is, in fact, Cehntenia. Their technology is more limited, but they make up for this lack with the power of magic, and with it, the power of healing. Naturally, they quite disagree, and feel that they'll be doing all the winning, thank you very much.

The reality, then, is that they've been warring for hundreds of years, and there's no particular end in sight. However, theirs is not the only continent on this world, nor the only intelligent races. There are other inhabited lands; among them is a particular archipelago in the southern hemisphere wherein live a species of creatures that are highly intelligent, cultured, and magically powerful.

Should they join together and use their powers, these creatures could very well invade the larger continent and end the war. (We shall call these creatures Arcanoloths, a name I've shamelessly yoinked from D&D. We can call their nation "Arcania," in a particularly uncreative move on my part.) ...Unfortunately, the Arcanoloths have all grown quite sick of each other, and would really rather have as little to do with their kin as entirely possible. This leaves them a great deal of time for studying and private introspection, as social lives are virtually unheard of; they are, fortunately, blessed with rather long life-spans, seeing as matings are rare, and usually involve a great many sullen arguments and alcoholic beverages.

Had these creatures decided to wage war on each other, they would most certainly be quite extinct. Fortunately, they are, on the whole, believers in art for art's sake, science for science's sake, and magic for magic's sake. The concept of actually using their destructive powers strikes them as incredibly crude and boorish. They'd much rather cast each other nasty looks over the top of their books and make snide comments about each others' robes, then go off to have a good sulk.

As they're not particularly fond of each other, it should not be surprising to know that many Arcanaloths have migrated away from their home islands, and a fair number have landed themselves upon the main island. (It should be noted that their general disdain for their own kind is limited to just that -- they're much more forgiving of other species.) Aside from all their other charming attributes, the Arcanaloths are noted for their greed, and most who reside on the main continent have realized the fantastic potential for profit the ongoing war provides. While they unanimously shun combat, many have found their niches in providing information, offering advice on tactics, selling supplies, running negotiations between the two sides, and other such pursuits.

Which all finally brings us down to this character (whose name I've quite forgotten in the decade since I came up with her -- I'll make up a new one at some point). She is one of the many who moved on to the main continent, and opted to make her living by selling potentially-useful enchanted objects to the highest bidder. After developing a sound reputation with both armies, she found herself in the rather choice position of working on some negotiations for a temporary cease-fire. Naturally, she found it a golden opportunity to fleece both sides. Needless to say, neither army was particularly pleased with this outcome, and she was summarily forced to flee the continent. In fact, both armies were so very displeased that she was forced into exile on an otherwise uninhabited island lest she be hunted down and punished in a number of very unpleasant ways.

Decades passed. Now, one might imagine that a life of solitude would be ideal for an Arcanoloth, but the reality is that, somewhere deep inside, they all secretly like passing snide comments about each others' robes, and being alone simply doesn't agree with them. Deprived of kinsman to needle, warring civilisations to take advantage of, or even a simple library in which to pass the hours, the time has made her slightly more than off her rocker. As such, when a group of human adventurers arrived on her lonely island, she was quite pleased to have a little company. She was even more pleased to discover that nobody seemed to remember her 'war crimes' and she was finally able to return to civilisation.

Two days later, she was sucked into Lethe.

The Rest of the Info:

(Edit) A Name: Khuffra Azdrayk (Translated from the ancient tongue it means, "Little ball of bluish wax.")
...Because she should probably named eventually. Made up something that sounded fun to say.

Appearance: 6'4", thin, and approximately humanoid with the exception of a distinctly canine head -- a long muzzle, pointed ears, and rather impressive fangs; covered in pale gray fur. Wearing a threadbare, multi-coloured robe with a high collar and many pockets.

The Contents of Her Pockets: a small pounch of coins, three scraps of paper, a battered old spell book, a tin of biscuits, a kettlewyrm*, a half-metre length of twine, a three-leaf clover, a fake pearl necklace, a pocket knife, and a rounded, pale pink shell which makes a rather charming noise when blown upon.

The Powers: (Again, mostly shamelessly lifted from D&D; I've cut a lot out, to keep it from being too much. Subject to revision at request.)

Inherent Abilities:
Resistance to acid, fire (including magical), gases and poison. Susceptible to cold.
Can produce small amounts of fire and/or heat substances on touch. (I foresee some potential buddying up with Zely's character, perhaps?)
May also create an illusion (over herself or otherwise) once per day, unlimited use of the spell effect Darkness, or teleport short distances (within visual range) at will. (Like all of her species, she will avoid combat at all costs, and will use these powers to that end.)

Also has typical spell-casting abilities. (Will make this specialized if required, otherwise I'm planning on pretty general spell use based on whatever's in her spell book. She's much more inclined to use magic for simple, practical purposes -- again, avoiding combat or aggressive use of magic as much as possible.)

Other Stuff:
As emphasized above, she is very much a non-combatant type character. She comes across as rather dotty and a bit grandmotherly. Deep down inside, she's still got a mind for profits and her own best interest, but years of exile have left her rather unstable and she craves socialization.

*Footnote
Kettlewyrms: A common household nuisance, the kettlewyrm is a small invertibrate which may grow up to 6 centimetres in size. They very rarely reach this size, as they are typically squished by shrieking housewives or their dutiful husbands. Named kettlewyrms because they tend to crawl into kettles to reach their favourite source of nutrition: tea. They will take coffee in a pinch, preferably with a bit of milk.

Alright, figured out my character.

Name: Xerandos Talahar
Age: 43 (looks 25)
Weight: 150
Height: 6'0"
Eyes: Silver
Hair: Purple
Length: Shoulder
Race: Biologically Engineered Tokiri
World: Samecia
Civilization: Zermin Tokiri (Humanoid creatures that are generally built and look like humans, but have advanced reflexes. Zermin are anywhere from 7-9 feet tall with pitch black skin tone and Tokiri are 5-6'11" with light green skin tone [Think martian manhunter type])

History: Xerandos was the final generation of a government project known as Project Redemption. This project involved enhancing mind abilities to the point of telekenesis and extreme adaptability to scenarios and situations. Their minds were literally running supercomputers. There were over 15 generations of this project before it was destroyed by a rogue creation known as Aion (Shamelessly ripped from Chrono Crusade). Xerandos was the final creation before the lab was destroyed and was saved at the last minute by the founding scientist, Dr. Vargas. Vargas told Xerandos all about the project. How it was founded, who was involved and what exactly happened during the creation phase.

Aion was a 14th generation Redemption project and after reaching critical mass, went berserk and destroyed the entire lab. Because Xerandos is the only surviving subject after Aion hunted down all generations before him and killed all opposing 14th generation creations, he is responsible for defeating him. He was on his way to find Aion when the worlds collided and merged together and even now he searches for Aion and revenge for his destroyed brethren.

Personality: Very somber and serious most of the time. However, is given a sense of emotion and understanding to offer very piercing insights at times. Will do anything for friends and is very dedicated when he has become loyal to a new force.

Skills:
Telekinetics-
Lift/Throw: Can lift 10 objects with weights 25-50 pounds for any length of time
Can lift 5 objects with weights 50-200 pounds for a few hours
Can lift any object with any weight below 8,000 pounds at least 10 feet off the ground and lob it...takes almost all of his concentration and must give himself time between such large lifts.
(As experience grows, heavier objects can be lifted and for longer periods of time)

Force blast: Use telekinetic force to emit a blast to knock down enemies or damage electrical equipment. Can be fired either as a wave or bullet type.

Foresight: Can scout ahead one mile in any direction. Takes a decent amount of energy after one mile. Cannot go any further than 3 and a half miles, or will pass out.

Shield: Can create a shield to block projectile objects. Starting shield level can block bullets and withstand small explosions, but only can be held for 15 minutes and will sap all energy.

Weaknesses- His body is relatively weak because most of his strength is in his mind. His bones are relatively frail, so if he endures a rough landing or fall, he may easily break a bone.

His energy is directly linked to his life. If he pushes himself too far, he WILL die.

Finally, another side effect of his weak body is that the sun takes a very harsh effect on him if he's out too long unprotected. He is easily susceptible to burns and weak to fire. In fact, he's extremely afraid of fire.

There he is. My telekinetic.

Okay, because I need it for clarity and simplicity, I just randomly generated the world names. I will be taking over the second post of this thread for them as well as which character is from which.

Here are the world names:

Samecia
Ceheus
Rudine
L'ang-rha
Eneyd'o
Amisaya
Seyk
And, finally, Lethe

Everyone who's made a character, can you post in your bio both your name as well as the civilization's name (if it's not there already). You'll also need to, when someone created another civilization in the same world, to determine how they like the other one.

There. I named my character. cool

Since I kind of went and made up a lot of world history for my entry, I'll leave it to anybody else who has a planetary preference before I go claiming anything.

Well, I need you to name the two warring civilizations, the troll like ones with tech and the human-ish ones with magic and to pick a world so I can get it set up. Pretty much any one will do. The setting would be mingled, so it'd be best to just pick a world right now so others can join in that one too if they want. Hell, you could be from the same world as Hito or even my character if you wanted. Neither one is incompatible with your setting. FFG's'd be trouble though.

Nabs would like to join in, but since she's on hiatus, her character is still on the homeworld and hasn't been ported to Lethe yet (and she won't for a while). sweatdrop Here's the basics of what her character is (yes, Nabs has a Gaia addiction. No one said it would be easy to break.)
Name: Unpronoucable to humans. She may be called Tess.
Age: Mid-20's
Height: 5'8
Weight: Undeterminable

Tess's race is quite small (or they may just seem that way. Her people are rather private, even amongst their own) and she shares the inherant talent that all her people share. She is able to project an illusion on herself based on whomever is looking at her and be anyone, anything, that the viewer desires.. or in times of great stress/fear/anger, whatever they fear the most. This requires a bit of psychic ability, but it's not a concious ability, nor does it allow her to read minds. At times, even she can't know what people see when they look at her. It's quite disturbing when someone sees something totally different than what she expects (ie. when someone sees her as a child when she's projecting something... stimulating.[/*****])

She can also, with great concentration, make her self-illusions solid, but it doesn't last long as it takes a great deal of energy. As a result, she fights mostly by twin daggers, which she had to learn to use to defend herself from wild animals that would wander out of the dangerous forest near her home to forage in the fields. But in times of great need, she will make a solid form of something huge (and utterly terrifying to the person on the receiving end) and rip them apart with whatever the feared creature has (fangs, claws, spines, talons, etc.) with quickness and precision (if she took her time killing something, she'd be too tired or may not be able to make the killing blow).

Her people's traditions dictate that she must keep her true appearance private. Only chosen mates and offspring are allowed to know what she truly looks like (kinda like Orko from He-man). Because of her beliefs, she wears a long black cloak with a cowl that covers her head, gloves, and long boots when she is not using her powers (just imagine a human sized Jawa without glowy eyes). When she finds out about Hito's Ask for Eyes ability, she will ask him not to use his power to look at her true appearance. He can, but she probably will not like him much afterwards. sweatdrop

Her personality is utterly normal. She's not picky and knows that love holds no boundaries. She'd prefer to fall in love with another of her race, but well, that ain't likely as her race is small anyways. It's probably even more remote on Lethe. She has no compunctions about killing if it's to protect herself, her friends, or innocents. She's quite protective of children as they are pure beings in her eyes. Human language is not her native language and it shows when she talks. She also may do weird things, but remember, they are completely normal where she comes from. wink Oh, casual illusions for up to 7 people can be held for up to a day. More people than that, causes mental strain and lessens the time amount. If she had to move through a large crowd, she could probably hold it for... 5 minutes.

Ok... Nabs is really leaving now! ninja Nabs must learn to do without computer and intarweb for a while. sweatdrop

I've never actually posted one of these.. plan things.. before. So I expect it to be fairly s**t. sweatdrop

-i haven't memorized the entire plot, so if this contradicts anything just tell me
-if my character is too unrealistic or horrible or whatever, just tell me
-just tell me everything 'k
-this is probably going to be very similar to my starting post, that a problem?

Name: Tahrynn
Age: 27 (has looked the same since 3, will not under normal circumstances ever look any different) (race lives to about 150 on average)
Weight: 200
Height: 6'5"
Eyes: Black
Hair: No hair. Lizard.
Length: N/A
Scale coloring: Mostly white, dark purple specks
Race: Lizardperson
World: Seyk

Somewhere roughly around the middle of Seyk there was a rather smallish village of about 600 people. If ever anyone not from there entered, they were given a couple of rocks and shooed away. The village had a surplus of rocks, and no one really liked them except people not from the village, which is usually why they showed up. Everyone agreed that giving the visitors rocks was a good way to get rid of both the rocks and the visitors.

There wasn't any real reason anyone knew of that they didn't like visitors, they just didn't. Their parents didn't like them, so they didn't. If anyone had ever bothered to care, they could've probably figured out that it was to keep people away from the food source. No one ever stopped to think though.

The food source was a single race of lizardpeople. The lizardpeople could talk the villager's language and got their own food, but the villagers never stopped to think and ask the lizardpeople what it was they were eating. These lizardpeople made up every single food in the village. At all. Lizardperson omelette, foot of lizardperson, lizardpersonloaf.

The people are called Mroogians.
They aren't, however, especially important.
Mostly because they're stupid.

Quite a few of the lizardpeople, in following with their race's not being called anything other than "lizardpeople," had decided they didn't particularly want a name. Others had a name at one point, but forgot. Tahrynn was one of the ones who remembered. Not such an incredible feat really, because since most didn't have or know their own name, no one had the slightest idea what hers was.

Normal morning. Hunters from the village were flopping about with their spears, lizardpeople were skittering around mocking the villagers. The village people [LOL, THE VILLAGE PEOPLE] got as close as they always did before attacking, and the lizardpeople skittered away. A few got killed. They always did. Usually it was the ones who didn't care, and thought mocking the villagers was worth it anyway.

Tahrynn, in her skittering, winded up in Lethe.

Work in progress... will be added to

Name: Gehruraelhfn in closest english approximation, since much of the his native language is based on body language and written in a pictographic script... Asks those who can't speak it to call him Raven... unless he gives one of his many aliases. The name literally means Bold, First of Grey's Get.
Age: Mid 20s, looks 18ish.
Weight: 130, due to muscle density, looks significantly lighter.
Height: 5' 2"
Eyes: Yellow, usually mostly closed in full daylight.
Hair: Grey with black hairs and tan highlights... Think a coyote's pelt.
Length: Pulled into a tail at the nape of the neck, reaches to midback.
Race: Mixed-blood Latraian (coyote clan beastmen)...
World: Rudine
Civilization: Originally the wandering trade clans of the Latrarian people, traveling the trade routes of the Melyan continent (mix of renaissance europe and asia at that time period, with a little bit of the Carribean and pacific islands tossed in due to seafaring); later experiencing many cultures of his world, sometimes even willingly...

The Latrarian: Latrarian are one of the many races that trace their origin back to the first days of the Great Shattering, when the skies split open and the gods showed their anger with the millenia long war between the Sytheas (dragonman ancestors of the Sythas) and the Ceryn (ancient race of stonemen) by dropping the twelve younger races into the world along with a blast of rage that sundered the world's single continent into the 10 lesser continents as well as hundreds of islands. A pureblood Latrarian (kinda rare) looks like an human with thin fur covering their forearms and lower legs (and sometimes more, especially as one enters middle and old age) with canine ears, elongated faces, lean builds and thickly furred tails (an elegant tail is a source of great pride). They also possess somewhat pronounced canine teeth, longer tongues, and claws. Due to many of their traits being highly dominant and the race being... flexible (though many would say outright immoral) about their romantic attachments, many members of the race are actually of mixed blood, sporting some small features of theor other parent while losing very little of their coyote heritage. They typically retain the instincts (good and bad), senses, and agility, though they usually get a slightly lesser version of the race's legendary near total immunity to toxins... including a massive alcohol tolerance.
