Obie mumbled a little in her sleep then suddenly realized that Ra's warmth was no longer surrounding her. Breathing deeply, she stretched and slowly opened her eyes. She felt like she could sleep for weeks, but then the previous night's conversation flew through her mind and she was suddenly seized by nerves and sat up quickly to turn and look at the clock. Seeing that they still had some time, she relaxed a little and laid back down, putting her head on Ra's chest.
"Don't be nervous Ne-chan. That's my job," she smirked and ran her hand up into his hair. She could hear his heart beating a little faster than normal. "Would you like to take a shower?" she asked, sitting up a little to look down at him.

Ra smiled and ran his fingers up into her hair.
"I'm just nervous for you." He said closing his eyes for a moment and taking a deep breath.
"Mmm, a shower would be nice." He said softly running his hand over her shoulder. "Then we can attempt to eat and head out."

Obie smiled and leaned down to kiss him before rising from the bed, tugging on his hand to get him moving.

A couple of hours later, after somehow managing to choke down some food, Obie pulled up in front of a normal looking house. It was much smaller than the one her other parents lived it, but it looked rather nice. Her heart racing, all she could do was stare at the front door.
"What if they don't like me?" she asked suddenly, gripping the steering wheel tightly and knowing perfectly well she was stalling.

"They are going to like you." He said, placing a hand on her cheek and kissing her lightly. "So get out the car and go and meet them, come on." He smiled and opened the car door, stepping out onto the quiet street.

Obie blinked a little when Ra's hand slipped over her cheek and she smiled as she kissed him back. She watched him get out of the car, then slowly did the same. Closing the car door, she looked over at the front door again and took a deep breath. They had come all this way. There was no point in turning back now. Smoothing her hand over her hair and then her skirt, she walked around the car to take Ra's hand so they could make their way to the door. With a slightly shaky hand, she rang the doorbell and waited.
Brad had had a hard time believeing Maddie the night before when he and the boys had gotten home from the football game. Their firstborn daughter had, after twenty years, finally come looking for them. He had never seen her except in the one photograph that Maddie had taken and sent to him while he had been stationed in South Korea. He still had the photograph, tucked away in one of the many books that lined the walls in his study. That night after Maddie had finally drifted off, he had gone and pulled the photo to look at it for the first time in a long time.
Walking to the door, he was nervous. He knew who would be on the other side, but all he could picture was a tiny, red faced infant with a shock of black hair. Taking a deep breath, he pulled the door open and blinked at the young woman standing before him. She looked exactly like Maddie. Every curve, every feature, right down to the nervous expression on her face, the only difference was she had his hair and his eyes.
He wanted to wrap his arms around her and just hold her in order to share the joy he felt in seeing her in person for the -very- first time, but remained rooted to where he stood. His eyes then went to the young man behind her and warm smile slipped over his lips.
"Obsidian, welcome," he smiled and moved aside so they could walk in. "Who is this young man we have the honor of meeting as well today?" he asked.

Ra almost let out a sigh of relief at the man's warm introduction and smile, so much different from the reception of her other family.
"My name is Rashne sir," he said holding out his hand. "It is nice to meet you."
He swallowed and stepped in with Obie.

Madison was in the kitchen, arranging cookies on a plate with her shaking hands. She could hear their voices, her husbands, an accented male voice and a female. She was almost scared to look, what if the girl hated her.
Taking a deep breath she stepped from the kitchen and into the hallway, her hand flying to her mouth as she took in the girl before her.
Like the night before she couldn't speak, she was most definitely their daughter, she was beautiful.
"I'm sorry." she blurted, stepping forwards instinctivly to wrap her arms around the girl she hardly knew, yet felt she knew so well.

"Rashne, it's very nice to meet you. I'm Brad," he smiled and shook the young man's hand firmly. He then looked back at Obsidian and honestly couldn't think of one thing to say to her. What could he say to make up for twenty years? When Maddie suddenly appeared he smiled and watched them. The decision had always been hard on her.
"Thank you sir," she said softly in response to his welcome. She watched as Ra introduced himself, then blinked in surprise as a woman suddenly appeared and wrapped her arms around her. Obie's first reaction was to tense up, but she quickly relaxed and slowly slipped her arms around her to return her hug.
"Sorry?" she repeated uncertainly, her mind starting to spin in overdrive. These people were unmistakably her parents. They seemed perfectly normal. They seemed perfect really. So why? Why had they given her up? Did they know? Somehow did they know that she would be a huge mistake and they didn't want that for their perfect lives? Swallowing hard, she eased away from Madison and stepped back to reach behind her and take Ra's hand.

Trembling Madison stepped back from Obsidian and towards her husband wiping her eyes with her hands. She smiled at the young man whose voice she had heard and tried to gain a little control.
"Shall we go into the livingroom and talk?" She asked gesturing to the open door. "I'll bring in some tea."

Brad smiled and slipped his arm around his wife's shoulders to give her quick squeeze. As she went to the kitchen, he smiled at the young couple and led the way to the living room.
"Please, make yourselves at home," he smiled and gestured to the comfy, lived in couch as he sat down in one of the seats nearby.
Obie held Ra's hand with another deathgrip as she followed Brad into the living room. Sitting down on the couch, she adjusted her skirt over her knees and sat a little stiffly, her eyes starting to look around the warm living room. Her eyes traveled over all the pictures of the family that lined the walls and fireplace mantel. Running her hand nervously through her hair, she looked to Ra for a moment of support.
"A-Are these ya'lls kids?" she asked, nodding to the pictures and then looking back to the eyes that mirrored her own.

Madison came into the room with a tray and placed it on the coffee table.
"Yes." She said tucking her hair behind her ear and leaving her husband to explain them. "Look, Obsidian. I can only imagine what you must think of me, but please let me explain before you say anything."
She said with a hint of desperation in her voice. Sitting on a chair and smoothing her skirt down over her knees.
Ra smiled at Obie, trying to give her as much support as he could. It seemed that this family could not be better. Though he knew what was going through her head. That old question ... why.

Brad smiled at Obie's question and rose to his feet to grab one of the most recent photos of the kids. As he returned to his seat, he squeezed Maddie's shoulder. She needed to calm down. They didn't need to scare the poor girl, but he understood her need to tell Obsidian, to explain their decision to her. Running a hand over her auburn hair, he smiled and handed Obie the framed photo then sat on the arm of the chair Maddie was sitting in.
"The boy sitting in the middle is Gabriel, he's seventeen. The other boy is Andrew, fifteen, and the little redhead is Sadie, twelve," he smiled and watched Obsidian closely. He really could sympathize with Maddie's desperation to explain. He could imagine what was going through her head right now.
Obie looked up as Maddie rejoined them. She arched a brow slightly at her small outburst, but was successfully kept silent by it. As Brad handed her the picture, she looked down at it and swallowed hard. It was one thing to see the pictures from afar, it was a whole other thing to see three more people who looked like her up close. She listened as Brad rattled off their names and ages, her eyes studying each face as it was named. Running her hand along her forehead, she shoved her hair out of her eyes and behind her ear. Closing her eyes for a moment, she allowed the fact that she now had three siblings sink in. Three years difference between her and the oldest boy. Three years difference? What on earth could have changed in three years that made them suddenly decide that they could have kids when they had already given her up? Opening her eyes, she looked up at the two people before her. Her parents.
"Please... may I ask... wh-why?" she asked, the question she both desired to know the answer to desperately and feared the most above anything else. "My par.... Nadine and Gerald told me, but... I fear that I may have been told wrong," she said softly, reaching out to set the picture on the coffee table.

Madison looked up at the girl and took another deep breath. She wanted so much for her to understand, though she knew it would be difficult.
"I ... " She began and took another deep breath. "When I found out I was pregnant with you, I was seventeen. Brad ... Brad was overseas in the army. I felt so lost. I knew I wasn't ready to give you what you needed and we talked, Brad agreed. We couldn't give you a good life. I couldn't ... I couldn't " She stopped to take another breath, she just couldn't say it.
"I knew I had to have you, I decided to give you to a couple who were stable, who desperatly wanted a child, who I knew could give you everything you wanted."

Obie listened to her carefully. So she had been a teenager who had gotten in over her head, but that explained where her father had been. When she said that she had given her to a couple who had desperately wanted a child and who could give her everything she wanted, she suddenly felt ill. She had no clue. But of course she wouldn't. At the time, Nadine and Gerald had been desperate for a child. It was just too bad it hadn't lasted. Sitting back in the cushions, she turned her eyes to Ra for a moment and slipped her hand into his as she collected her thoughts.
"I see," she said softly and turned her dark eyes back to them. "So is it true that you wouldn't even look at me? That you wanted nothing to do with me?" she asked.

As Obie spoke she frowned a little and took her husbands hand. That is what she had been brought up believing. Though they would say that, they would not want their daughter contacting her, she was their daughter now, not hers.
"No, no that's not true. If I couldn't look at you it was because I didn't want to see you're face and change my mind. If I had changed my mind you would have had nothing, with them you would have a chance. I have a picture ... " she said looking at the floor. "I sent it to Brad ... so he could see you too." Her voice was breaking again and she could feel her control slipping. "You looked so beautiful. That's why I couldn't look at you. Not because I didn't want you, but because I did."

At Madison's words, Obie looked around at all the happy smiling faces around her, at what she could have had.
"Excuse me please," she barely whispered around the lump in her throat as she suddenly rose to her feet. Wiping her eyes Obie walked towards the door. She didn't know what else to do or where else to go.
