(( Sorry for not posting sooner. I hope I'm not too late? ))

The sounds of hyenas talking reached Rasuli's ears as he came wandering towards his den, not too far from Mafa's. Somehow he'd managed to secure the location when he was a young new arrival and had been fortunate not to get kicked out since.

But back to the sounds.... it was very unusual to hear so many together. He'd just have to go see! And besides, as head scout, it was his job to know what was going on and who was in the area.... even if he did have a sore jaw. The attack on the adult lion and it's cub still left the side of his mouth rather tender.

He wandered quickly over to where the sounds of voices were coming, slowing though when he saw the group. He made no effort to hide or quieten his approach, why should he when he was in the heart of the hyena's territory? But he didn't want to appear rushed either. Without a word he came to sit somewhere near but behind his queen, listening as the others spoke. Two strangers.... a male and female.

Tibuka was there too, whom he'd not seen since he'd reached his full adult size. It was good to see him again, although he looked like he'd been in a scrap himself. And there was Yakuti, undermining him probably. He looked bigger too. Maybe the reason he distrusted the blue hyena was because he reminded him of himself when he was new here? And the wild dog... He'd heard about the pack's slave, though he'd never seen or met it. He wasn't sure what he thought of that.... except that he knew lions kept slaves themselves, and he didn't want to be like any lion.

A couple of comments perked up his ears as he contemplated the known packmates. An heir? Well... true... they didn't have one, and although they didn't need one now they would some day.... And things the other strange female said. What was she suggesting?

"No one's going to be a lion's slave here...." He growled under his breath.

"This pack is here to stay, even without me, it would be strong. But like I said, nothing can take me down, take my word for it."

Mafa growled defensively, eyes narrowing at Shira once more. This female just couldn't seem to beat it into her head that Mafa was not a force to be reckoned with; she was a solid boulder, nothing would budge her. Mafa watched as the new female scowled at her slave, insulting the useless beast. This struck a nerve with Mafa, it wasn't that she cared about Kelello, not one bit, but it was the principle that angered her. She stepped out infront of Kelello, purposely knocking the pup down as harshly as she could with her side. She stood before Shira, quite a bit too close for comfort.

"I won't have you running around here saying what you want about my property, only I have that right. You'd rightly learn your place, or perhaps you would prefer running about with the lions?"

Mafa's onslaught was disturbed by the emergence of the strange male, the one she had forgotten about in the few short seconds in which she had adressed him. She liked the way this one looked, that was for sure. She took a step away from Shira, almost smirking at the male. Mafa liked this one already, he knew who he had to respect.

"Heard of us have you? Well that's pleasing. There's always room among our ranks for another hyena willing to join our cause, especially one who knows his place."

Mafa stressed the last part of that phrase, she was much more eager to comply with a submissive hyena, much rather than a disrespectful one. It wasn't that she didn't want Shira in the pack, she did, she looked like she'd put up a damn good fight, especially against a lion, but she was too much of a pain in Mafa's a**.

It was then that Mafa noticed Rasuli stride in, and she felt her mood increase slightly. Rasuli's presence was the only one Mafa actually enjoyed, he was one of her success stories, and she was damn proud of that. Well, not that she'd let anyone know about that. She was, however, rather startled to see him, Rasuli had... Grown. She had always thought of him as just the little pup she had found in the middle of the Graveyard one day, but not any more. He had grown into a very respectable looking adult. She nodded to acknowledge him, her eyes tilting into a barely noticeable smile, just for a split second.

Well well, it seemed like just about everyone who mattered in the pack had showed up to this little meet, namely Rasuli and Tibuka. But one was missing, as usual, the useless father of her child, Tukutu. She wondered why she even bothered with that mongrel sometimes. She shook her head quickly to clear the though, she wasn't going to bother herself with this for now, there were more pressing matters at hand.

Yakuti relaxed, this newcomer seemed alright, after all, he wanted to join the pack and Mafa seemed to like him. He sat back down and looked around, finally realizing how much of the pack was there. He smiled, with this many hyenas, they could easily take down several lions in one sitting, oh that would be enjoyable, perhaps they could all go on a raid into the lion-infested part of the graveyard sometime...

His ears flicked and he faced Rasuli. He couldn't put his paw on why, but the older hyena seemed to dislike him. He didn't say anything to him, but he had an unnerving feeling that he would be serious competition if he wanted to move up in the ranks. The blue hyena knew full well that he was the favorite of Mafa's, and he aspired to take that position when he was older, he wanted to be the pride of the pack.

He rolled his eyes yet again, this time at Kelello, that one never learned... But no matter, he had permission from Mafa to find and train his own slave, and he would make sure to make it the most obedient one around, with little or no need for punishment. The term slave would only be used to keep Mafa happy about it, he personally wanted more of a companion, a partner... He had yet to find the right creature for the job.

Shira fliched, what? A male ignored her? This was one thing she could not stand at all. There were few things she did not stand for; Males and Wild Dogs. Males, in her mind, were the gender who sought power, and where do they find that from, females and other males. Challenge other males to test their strength and then prove it to those weaker than them. She has yet to meet a male who would flirt or court her, oh no, they would always come forth trying for her. What was she a prize? many times during the females adolescence, she was chased and followed, her heart for males grew colder and colder. She disliked them, she knew she could be better than them, she knew it. THe only ones who she thought deserved her attention and friendship were good, strong females that could 'fend for themselves. Mafa was a prime example. Her hate for Wild Dogs were another story, a story she will tell no one who she did not trust.

Shira continued to glare coldly at the new male, in her mind the same phase repeated itself.....Suck up. she had to keep an eye on this one. To her, speaking to her like that, sucking up to the only possible friend she might be able to have in this pack, he was challenging her. Though, she was going to keep that to herself until the time was right. Until then, all he was was tolerance and nothing more.

"Well...who hasn't heard of this pack? The lions know of its dangers, the other animals fear to even come near. Everyone knows we hyenas will kill all and any who trek on our territory, other than our own species."

She spoke, her gaze between the newcomer male and the alpha. She made a note to speak with Mafa one on one some other time.

Shira smirked and dipped her head and pulled it back up.

"Forgive me, Alpha. I put my own dislike before I spoke."

Another note to herself, 'Stay away from the pack slave.' Shira sort of lost interest after that, the alpha's attention was now to the males now, her conversation was of her own, none of this female's concern. However, the yellow hyena's eyes fell down to the male beside her.

"Yakuti, is there something bothering you?"

She asked, still a little gruff and still hinted of overconfidence.

Ahsante, bowed his head to Mafa, "I am Ahsante and would be happy to serve under you." That was his way of saying thank you in a way, he believed she needed to know his name, which is why he put it in the way he did.

Ahsante knew his place all to well, he would obey Mafa and keep his nose clean but he wasn't one to be happy with people getting in his way and the yellow female was alread irritating him, stupid hyena. He said nothing though, he had no reason to care much about her.

Tibuka was a content hyena, he had a nice, high rank, he had defeated some lions, and look, he had even been entrusted the alpha's son! He hated that, but even then, that was a sign that he was trusted.

The male acknowledged Mafa's scold with a lower of his ears, though he sat down calmly. He didn't fear Mafa, no. He respected her. That was compleetly different. He frowned as the hyena insulted his slave. He wasn't about to go over what afa had, about the dog being his, but he didn't like anyone coming here and criticizing the pack.

He nosed Kelello harshly with his nose, attemting to knock her over when she was close enough as a warning to quite being disrespectfull, but he'd lose posture f he did much more, and he'd end up looking like a babysitter otherwise, so quickly hld his head up again.

Newcomers, it was amusing. They all directed to Mafa, more respecfully than to anyone else. She could probably make them do the stupidest things in the world if she really wanted to. Obedient, really. He liked having a high rank below something like that, much better than his idiotic parents, that even got themselves stepped on by elephants. A mouse could tell them to hop around on one paw if it wanted to, and they'd obey.

"Speaking of Mabozi, Mafa. " He said after she seemed done. "He should be able to hunt by now-- if he doesn't go finding everything he eats neat. " He could imagine the prince snuggling up to a rabbit all to easly.

Tibuka didn't give much mind to Mabozi anymore, now that the thing could fend for itself. "Think I should probably take him hunting. " He snorted, that seemed impossible. "To see if he really can? "

Damn, he looked like a babysitter. How annoying.

Kelello yelped as Mafa's strong shove pushed her into the ground. She collected herself quickly, jumping to her paws to look up at her captor with questioning green eyes. Then, as her slender ears picked up Mafa's words, she began to grin. Mafa had, in her own way, protected her from that mean new hyena.

Note to self. Stay away from the ugly yellow blob. Kelello padded with a spring in her stride towards Tibuka, whom she plopped down beside, and stared curiously at the newest hyena .. Ashante? She wagged her tail in welcome, but couldn't help but expect that she could gain no one's positive attention.

Yakuti looked at Shira, "No... I'm fine." He said, trying to take his mind off Rasuli, and decided that he would merely watch the newest arrival instead. What a suck up, but at least he knew his place, but all these new pack members, it was good, but it was also competition... Especially the ones NOT recruited by himself.

"Welcome, Ahsante." He said, nodding his head at him, though still sitting in a dignified position. He had been in the pack longer, he knew his way around, and in his opinion, he was above him.

Yakuti muffled a laugh at the mention of Mabozi hunting, they were the same age, but that didn't change the fact that it was Mabozi they were talking about. Tibuka was right, he would never hunt if he kept being so naive about other things.

"If you say so, Yakuti."

She replied, returning her gaze to the rest of the pack. Mafa had quite the group of followers here and she controlled such power. Well, good for her since Shira could never do that. With her extreme hate toward having others do her own work when she knows full well she can do it herself. But that was how a pack was ran, and that is how it should be. Shira was never gonna be Alpha, that is for sure....maybe? No, she could not.

"Kellelo, the slave. Tibuka is Mabozi's caretaker. Mabozi is Mafa's son. Rasuli is an old member, and Ashante, a new member."

She whispered the names of the pack to herself, soft enough for no one to hear but herself. She was gonna commit the names to memory for future refrence.

She looked around and glazed to each male, the ones of adult anyways. None of them looked like Mabozi nor did any of them get close to Mafa. Where was her mate? Did she have one? Her expression became one of confusion. Maybe...he wasn't here yet?

For just the briefest second Rasuli thought he saw a crease in Mafa's eye, one of happiness? Ah, too strong a word to be associated with Mafa. But some kind of positive emotion in any case. He accepted it with a flick of his ear in her direction. Little motions, nothing noticable really.

He then turned his attention to the new male, sizing him up. "Any hyena worthy of the species would wish to serve our cause, Ahsante." He murmered. Not just serve Mafa, though Rasuli doted on her, but the simple fact that hyenas needed to make a stand against the arrogant felines.

As Tibuka started to speak, Rasuli looked at him and listened. The male had been here a long time too and the young adult didn't forget their first meeting - defending Mafa as she had been birthing Mabozi. So the brown hyena had become the Prince's teacher and watcher? Rasuli didn't begrudge him the position (he was happy teaching Fritt) but he didn't think less of him either. Sure the alpha's son was.... naive. But he was still Mafa's son after all.
"Hunting would be good. If he can kill a meal then that's a step closer to being able to kill an enemy. I can come with you if you want?"

The blue-gray hyena couldn't help but notice how Shira spoke to Yakuti. Were they friends? He thought the female had only just arrived?

Mafa's head tilted up, eyes narrowing at Shira, accepting her apology for being so brash. Shira was learning, and quickly at that, perhaps she'd be easier to mold into the pack life style than Mafa thought. But, she'd work on that later, or have someone else do it for her. Then again, maybe she'd make Shira her own little project, she'd figure that out later. the alpha flicked an ear as Shira turned to speak with Yakuti, for a female that claimed to dislike males so, she seemed rather tolerant of young Yakuti. Humorous almost. Mafa disregarded it for now.

A short and knieving grin flash upon Mafa's maw as she listened to Ahsante speak. Music to her ears. If only everyone was this eager to cater to her cause she'd be on cloud nine.

"Well in that case, you will. Make yourself at home, aquaint yourself with the others, hold your own, maul some lions, and you'll fit right in."

Mafa chuckled lightly, but it came out as more of a growl than anything. Either way, she was amused. But all of that amusement flittered away as Mabozi was brought up. Her biggest failure was her only child, wonderful. The damn thing couldn't even fend for himself, lions scared him; he was completely useless.

"I'm sure trying to teach him will be a complete waste of time, that idiot's skull is thicker than anything I've ever encountered. But try anyways, and if that fails, then perhaps I need to become more strict..."

Yakuti noticed Mafa flick her ear, he wondered about why for a moment, and then shrugged. He didn't much care, nor think asking would be a great idea, but he was still a bit curious.

Well, at least this was a good oportunity to meet more of the pack members, though perhaps get to know them would be a better way to put it. Aside from Ahsante, he had met all the others at least once.

For a moment he thought of bringing up his past encounter with a god, perhaps show off that he had faced one and lived, but no... He hadn't won that fight, in fact, that lion wouldn't stop trying to be nice to him! Stupid thing... But still, he wanted advice on what to do if he met another. There was no way he could take one on his own.

"Mafa, have you ever met a lion claiming to be a god before?" He asked with a look of confusion on his face, "One with... Wings?"

Tibuka nodded towards Mafa, then looked towards Rasuli, who had grown since the last time they'd met. "That'd be good. " He looked down at Kelello, who had just flopped down next to him, and shrugged. As long as she wasn't jumping around, he supposed there wasn't much trouble.

But then Yakuti brought something up, and his attention jumped to the blue and white hyena. "What?! " He growled, mane prickling. He realised this question was towards Mafa, but the mention of these 'wings' had brought his attention, and images of the blue, flying lion flooded his mind.

He hadn't really had wings, but he guessed those.. things qualified. Helooked towards Mafa, ears back. He was quite sure she rembered that too, when he had first joined the pack.
PostPosted: Mon Nov 27, 2006 5:26 pm

Mafa had been mulling over the thought of training her son when Yakuti asked his question. Immediately a low growl rumbled in her throat, barely audiable, but it was there. Her mind, as well, flashed to the blue lion, god of war, whatever his name was. That had been the day Mafa had first learned of Ausha's spawn, and first met Tibuka. Her eyes darted to him, meeting his gaze,

"Yes... But don't let them lead you to believe they are anything special, a winged lion is just the same as a regular one, with an overly inflated ego. They speak nothing but lies, all of them.... What did this winged lion look like?"

Any reply would be bad. If Yakuti had seen the blue lion, it would mean that rat had come back onto her land uninvited. If he had seen another, well, that would mean that there is more than one lion god tromping around the world, and that would piss her of as well...

Ahsante had just nodded at what was said to him, he would try his hardest to do his best for the pack, he saw no reason not to. He had been accepted and he would help then in return.

He listened to the talk of lions, he wasn't really one to care much about them but then he would have to care now, it seemed his pack hated the feline species.
