Nadreth This is why I don't read Silver Ravenwolf: http://wicca.timerift.net/ravenwolf.shtml I should have read that before I posted. I knew there was some funky stuff in there, but I never realized how much and how bad!

Personally, I don't feel like she is all that bad. I have a friend, I don't know her rank but she is a part of a Gardnerian Coven and can trace her lineage back to Gerald Gardner himself. She told me that she's met Miss Ravenwolf and that isn't the fluffy bunny everyone thinks she is. Maybe her books are a little too filled with her opinions and stories, but to some people it helps them. It's all a matter of preference, at least that is what I think.

I bought one of Silver Ravenwolf's books and didn't like it very much. It didn't really help me at all, and a lot of the information was just plain confusing. I don't hate her as an author, but I really don't like some of her books.

I'm still on my learning path; but I have read most of Scott Cunninghams books and lately just finished Bonewits Guide to Wicca & Witchcraft. (Thank you local library!)
I recently bought 2 books at 1/2price books and one of them was "Ravenwolf's Guide to Abundance". I got it for obvious reasons- I'd like abit more prosperity in my life and so far I am really enjoying it. I am planning to try my hand at a few of the spells she describes. She does put more of her own views into her books- as does Bonewits lol - so I would still reccommend Cunningham as the very 1st book you should read. But I like her.
My own views on Christianity can be abit biased too. I have to actively work to prevent myself from being biased against it- and tell my self that everyones beliefs are their own- yada yada. So I can somewhat understand her views on it ~ and I am a solitary practitioner. (Someone mentioned before that Solitaries might like her books more)

Something that my girlfriend said, and I agree with her - Quote: She obviously knows her stuff, she's just really bad at writing it down.

I actualy own 3 of her books (ride a broomstick. magic cauldron, and sacred flame) they were a gift to me for my birthday. I do not love nor hate her writing
I have read well into the books and I think that though: yes her opinion is obvious, sometimes harsch. it is also easy to skip.
I have read many other books as well but I must say some of the exercises were at least good for personal insight and can be a relieve.
My opinion is that it go's for anything you read that you take along what feels good to you, the rest that is of less importance to you can be left behind as you close any book.
so although I do not agree with ravenwolfs opinion her books do offer a broad view on many diferent traditions. But her writing should be read selective and to your own needs.

She has admitted to using other's work in her books and not crediting those people. The last I knew that was stealing. That is why I don't like her.

Intresting to see this thread picked up again. What ive been told about Silver and that have discovered myself is that shes just a bit to personal at times, and dress's some things up a bit to much. Its really quite confusing for beginners to decide whats real and what isnt, and with all the fakers out there, you want your books to be as clear as possible. Finally i think Wicca has alot to do with finding your own connection with the gods, goddess's and world's around us, Silver just encourages her view quite a bit, meaning it can be quite hard to find your own way. Still shes probably worth reading if your more advanced and better at discerning things for yourself.

I personally dislike Silver Ravenwolf.I really believe she thinks she's better then non-pagans , and she also seems to want that EVERYONE knows she's a witch((she said herself she prefers that term over wiccan,i think because she thinks the term witch is more 'special'.)).I got pretty amazed when i found one of her books: http://www.amazon.com/Teen-Witch-Kit-Silver-RavenWolf/dp/1567185541 Isn't your altar and tools supposed to private for personal energy? She tells everyone she knows ((even poeple she barely knows?)) she's a witch. It wouldn't surprise me if she tried to tell it the most negative sounding way , because she seems to like it very much when poeple say something like "burn the witch!". I never read any of her books , so i know i am not the one to judge, but when i read this i think i know enough : http://wicca.timerift.net/ravenwolf.shtmlshe also attaCks Christianity very muCh. i'm sorry if i hurt anyone feelings...

I don't like her very much. I think she's good with the basic information, like creating a circle and such, but I think the rest is complete bs. She's obssessed with herself. But that's my opinion.

Nadreth This is why I don't read Silver Ravenwolf: http://wicca.timerift.net/ravenwolf.shtml This was really interesting and I'm glad you posted it. When i first was interested (about 4 years ago) my friend had picked up Teen Witch and referred it to me. I read it and took it in. Reading the quotes in this website reminded me back to when i had first read the book. I actually am quite Christian but very open minded. I have her other book To Ride a Silver Broomstick but i stopped reading it because of the things I've read about it. Some of the comments i read make me think that it would be worth it to read the rest of the book but disregard her comments about other religions. Or would i just become more mislead and misinformed?

I believe it is important for one to read everything he/she can get his/her hands on...IF the topic interests the person in question.
If one likes Wicca, he/she should read everything with an open mind, close the book, and analyse...question...everything said IN the book, not OF the book or OF the author. If one doesn't like a certain chapter, paragraph, sentence, alter/change/eliminate it until one is satisfied.
But, of course, that's my opinion...

Luna-wa says :
good for beginners and "fashion witches" but otherwise a load of crap
though i started with her i moved on to scott cunningham and other such writers she basicly commercialized wicca and made it the "cool" thing to do but she is good for basic wicca teachings
and you'd be brain-missing not to listen

I have to say that I'm one of those that don't like her too awful much. She gives me an odd feeling and sometimes offends me with the things she has to say. I have found that she tends to contradict herself on several occasions and shes never very clear on the points she tries to make. She also comes off as rather "big headed" haha. Like others have said though she does provide good basic information here and there, but nothing you couldn't get from some other text (In example: Cunningham, Morrison, etc...)
