Grand Manor, Lupix Sanctuary
Ruka meets his 'other' Daddy... biggrin
Prox: *throws Nashi at* Sy: *catch* >_>;;; Nashi: o.@ Sy: @_@;; You okay? Nashi: *dusts self off* Yes. 6.6 Sy: n_n Good. *quick kiss to cheek; no longer seems way overly tired, nor does he have that weird necklace anymore* Nashi: You look better. Sy: I'm feeling much better. *flicks tail* Ruka finally...ah...manifested? Nashi: He did? How is he? *little shamefaced for not having been there* Sy: He's doing just fine, I think he's afraid of the Dreams. *wasn't there either - only in a dream?* Would you like to see him? I left him napping, but there's no telling what he's doing... Nashi: *slow nod* Sy: *smiles and leads him upstairs to Ruka's room where the winged child is quietly chewing a green mushroom toy* Nashi: *awkwardly leans over to have a better look at baby angel* Ruka: *looks up at Nashi with biiiig silver eyes* *burble* Sy: Hi kiddo, does that taste good? *picks up the child when his little arms rise in the silent "up-up" motion* Nashi: *tries a smile at Ruka* Hello. Ruka: *staaares at the other fox, the toy in his mouth* Sy: Say 'Hi' Ruka, that's...your other daddy. *not sure if he should say that or not, but does* Ruka: ... *still staring* Nashi: *disconcerted, ears lay back slightly; offers a finger to Ruka, on the vague memory that that is what one does to greet babies* Sy: Don't worry...he's just very shy...the world is very new to him right now... Ruka: *stops staring, looks at the finger and grabs for it, baby face splitting into a smile* Haa! Sy: There, see? Nashi: *... can't help smiling hugely* Haa to you too. Ruka: *looks from Syrie to Nashi with big eyes, then leans towards the other fox to be held* Sy: I think he wants you to hold him... *smiling broadly; happy his 'family is getting along* Nashi: *puts his arms out to hold Ruka, nervous, but charmed in spite of himself* Ruka: *clings like a monkey to his shirt and his toy; immediately drools on his top* Sy: I think he likes you~ Nashi: *holds Ruka gingerly, a little unsettled by the happy drooling* I - does he? Sy: He's not screaming...and he's chewing on you, I'd say that's a good sign. *reaches out to stroke the child's silky soft hair* Ruka: *flutters his wings a little and closes his eyes; seems comfy - probably because Nashi smells like fox?* Nashi: *cuddles baby tentatively* He's - cute. *ears focused on Ruka* Sy: *watching them, tail curling in a pleased manner* Yes, he is~ Ruka: *likes the cuddling; shows his appreciation by leaning back and reaching up so he could put his pudgy baby fingers into Nashi's nose and mouth while making happy half-squealing sounds* Sy: Ruka, kiddo - Nashi's not for grabbing, not the mouth. Ruka: *blinks up ant the black fox* Naaa! Nashi: o.x *suppresses sneeze, carefully fends off little fingers from nose and mouth* "Naa, that's a good start. Try "Sy." *worried glance at Sy; doing this right?* Sy: *smiling so big; Nashi was definitely doing something right* Oh, he won't say my name..I've tried. Ruka: *screws up his little nose and then hides his face agianst the other man's robes* Nashi: *still disconcerted, in general, but cannot resist cuddling baby, staring down at him with a vaguely surprised expression*
Note: At this point, Syface and Prox had to sneep, so it will be assumed that the two men and the child spent some more time being cute, that Ruka refused to say his primary parent's name (IE - Sy) but that both men were quite happy with the child until naptime. :3

Syrie's Studio Apartment; Barton Town
Ruka was crying in his crib for all he was worth. He was dirty and hungry and no one had come to check on him since he'd woken early that morning. It was unusual to say the least -- Syrie was very good about waking early, cleaning and feeding his winged charge, and then curling back in bed for an extra few hours with the boy tucked in his arms.
He was not a happy baby.
Unfortunately, Syrie and Ruka hadn't been at the Sanctuary -- they'd been in town, at the kitsune's studio apartment. Which mean the usual bevy of adopted children, animals-turned-anthro, and 'pets' weren't around to know that one of the 'clan' had been left lacking and alone.
That is, until Veloren came by to pick up the guitar he'd left behind a few nights previous.
The sounds of a screaming baby hit the Lykin's delicate ears long before he'd mounted all of the stairs; it haunted him and hurried him as he slid the key into the lock and prompted him to bolt to his 'sibling's' rescue once inside.
"Oh Inari--" He murmured as he picked up the squalling child; Ruka was usually very quite, but it was no wonder that he was throwing a fit! "What is going on? Sy would never have left you like this..." Delicate features twisted in worry for the kitsune -- something had to have happened. He didn't have time to worry about that just yet: Ruka needed attention.
The baby Iridae snuffled and hiccoughed and quietly sobbed as the slim-hipped Lykin set to making things right (as right as he could, considering the circumstances).
As soon as he got Rukashel settled and secure, he had some phone calls to make -- he needed to get to the bottom of all of this mess. Nevermind that later he would need to go out to the Sanctuary to let Nanashi know. But first, phone calls.
Veloren's calling would yeild no real answers - no one had seen Syrie that day. The Stationary Store's phone rang endlessly, and he could not raise Khia on his cell. Certainly, things were very curious indeed -- Ren had a feeling that he would be taking care of his adoptive father's family for a little while...

Stationary Store - ORP in the guild, to be compiled later.
During Tall Tales MPSyrie Gaia. Calm and serene for brief moments during the day and night, but very rarely for long. Outside a rather quaint looking store boasting simple gold leafing on the frosted glass of the front door that read 'The Stationary Shop', a rather odd air lingered.
This place was oddly empty, but perhaps not so...it wasn't exactly the most active shop, being a store selling blank papers, but that was fine with the proprietors...neither of which were around. Also, the better part of the store was blocked off; the whole place might have been closed down save that Veloren was there, tidying up -- he figured, if he was going to be there, why not try to sell some paper?
The short, pink-haired lycanthropic creature minded the store; sweeping the front steps and cracking his gum while keeping an eye on a pretty little lavender-haired child with wings and his strange gem-necklace. draconianraven There weren't enough hours in the day, Raven decided for about the twentieth time that week, leaning against the wall. She was supposed to (at some point) meet with her sisters to discuss... well, life, work, and the problems arising from both-- and it wasn't that she was avoiding them, just that... nothing seemed to be working. They were never free at the same time.
These thoughts only came up because she'd just missed another meeting with them-- this time due to Arch being busy with Erimentha, rather than Raven's fault, for once. It put Raven in a rather foul mood, truth be told, but... ah well. She wouldn't think on it too much, wouldn't brood overly much. Or at least, she'd try not to do so.
A stationary shop! She hadn't seen one of those in a while. Something about the crisp smell of paper usually calmed her (thus the reason she had a soft spot for bookshops and the like), so she decided, impulsively, to stop and look about in--
That child. On the steps. It had a necklace. Like hers.
A hand moving to touch the pendant subconsciously, Raven glanced about before moving closer. Now she needed to investigate. She wanted to find out more about this. "Ah... hello there!" she called to the boy sweeping the steps, hoping this would be a wise decision.
Syrie Veloren hummed softly as he swept the front steps; he was worried for his family, but...he knew that things on Gaia always worked out some way or another. And honestly, Syrie was strong, he would be fine. At least, that was what the short, pink-haired lykin hoped.
When a woman called out to him, he lifted his siamese colored head and smiled broadly. "Oh, hello there! Can I help you?" The lykin was a friendly sort, and usually it was very difficult to tell his gender - he tended to wear girl's clothes; today he was in jeans and a fitted shirt that showed off his lack of breasts.
Defintely male. As was the child playing with his gem quietly. Nothing doing. Ren blinked a bit at the woman, she had moved her hand to cover a gem - was she like his father? Did she have one of those strange Iridae necklaces?
He would like to find out! It might be best to make 'friends' with more of the Iridae people...at the very least, he was going to be his usual, nice self! draconianraven As rare as it was for Raven to be without one of her many (many) kids, today because of her prior appointment, she'd left Hera and Nasir in charge of the house, knowing that between their combined intensity, they'd be able to at least keep everyone safely indoors. It was... odd, truth be told, but to have the breather did her some good.
"Ah... perhaps so?" Raven smiled, moving closer as she stroked a stray lock of dark hair behind her ear, pushing up her glasses in the same movement. "Is that child yours?" she motioned to the little purple boy with the necklace. Strange how every time she stepped out of her house she seemed to either run into someone with a child like one of her own or gain another. Ah well, no matter. Gaia was a place which fast did that to you.
Kyocho The sun was shining and just a few clouds had speckled the sky. Who could ask for anything better than this. It had been a few long... some painful months since Arranos had grown. Vin had decided to drag his charge along with him to the stationary store so they could get some supplies for Onos schooling. It was probably a good idea to start a little early. Since Arranos was a boy made of gems. It was probably a good idea to start teaching him about what they where made of and how to identify them. "Ono, we are almost there. You excited?" The elf, who was cluttered in tattoos, spoke to the toddler that had been resting against his back. A while back, Vin finally broke down and gave the boy a piggy back ride. "Yeah I am." The boy covered in gems mumbled lightly. The thought of having to be taught didn't send any thrill and excitement his way, like it was a necessary evil. The sight of the stationary shop Vin had heard about came into view. The gold design came into view and caught the elf's eyes attention fairly quickly. Although Arranos was focused on something else. There was a boy... dressed in purple, if that wasn't enough to catch his eye, then it must have been the gem he was holding. Reaching down he placed his own blue hand around his prismatic gem. "Ok, it's time to get down. I'm not carrying you into the store, you can do that yourself." The elf whispered. Setting down Arranos gently on the cement and pulled at the boys left hand and lead the blue and gem covered boy towards the shop. Syrie After the bespeckled woman asked whether Rukashel was his or not, the slight Lykin chuckled. "No miss, Ruka is my brother - adopted, of course. My father is out so I'm tending shop for a little bit while I babysit."
He smiled more being the friendly sort. "Do you have one of those strange necklaces that turn into children too?" Most didn't ask about Ruka beyond to admire the boy's beauty unless they actually knew about the Iridae.
There were voices - not too close, but coming closer. Veloren's ears swivelled to pick up a little smattering of whom and what was being said by the new people coming to the Stationary Store. He turned his torso a bit so that he could wave to the newcomer and his strangely glittering child.
How interesting! The little one had a gem-necklace as well -- coincidences happened so often on Gaia! They were practically commonplace, weren't they?
"Welcome to the Stationary Store, please come in - feel free to look around." Because really, he was supposed to be tending the shop!
Ruka was watching the woman with the necklace and then, when Arranos and Vin had arrived, the bejeweled child held his attention. draconianraven "Indeed, I think I do," Raven laughed quietly, touching it again as she glanced at the bejeweled boy coming nearer. "Not my first experience with an object that's said to turn into a child, though it feels like it'll be one of my last."
But she'd come here for a purpose, hadn't she? To calm down? ...but this was helping her focus on something less upsetting. "I wonder sometimes how common these lost souls are," Raven murmured, more to herself than to any of the individuals about.
Kyocho "VIN!" The jeweled boy shouted, but not loud enough for the whole neighborhood could hear him. "Look it's two more of those pendants. Like mine!" The elf pierced his Elvin eyes at the objects held by the people standing amongst the steps. "Ono, they could be just regular pendants found at some department store around here... but that boy is surely an Iridae." Vin nodded, "There's no doubt about it." Now it was getting out of hand. How many more of these pendants where going to fall and be found by the people of Gaia. What was going on around here...? VIN began to worry about all these gems and children that had been arriving, but he wouldn't have met Arranos if that hadn't happened. "Good afternoon and thank you." Vin stepped closer to the shop and headed up the stairs, "Do you mind if Ono stays out here with you guys while I just pick up a few things?" Syrie Ruka looked up at the woman with the pendant, and then towards the gem-encrusted toddler speaking so loudly and coming towards them. Neither seemed the least bit strange to the lavendar-winged Iridae; he smiled a sleepy, dreamy smile and fluffed his wings a bit at them in greeting.
"There's really no telling, I suppose. I just hope no one gets hurt because of them." A slightly pained but understanding look came to the Lykin's face - his parent had suffered for the Iridae necklace; it was no wonder his thoughts were troubled as he realized there were quite a few more of Rukashel's 'kind' lurking about. "Gaia is a wonderous place, but full of curious and potentially dangerous objects - at least, that's what Syrie says."
Veloren smiled at Kyo's question and shook his head as he leaned a little more on the broom he'd been weidling against dust and dirt. "Not at all, I'm sure Ruka would love to meet him...er..." The Lykin looked a little sheepish - he couldn't tell the child's gender, but he knew that 'Ono' was an Iridae child, just like his younger sibling. "Just let me know when you're ready to check out - thank you~"
Syrie would have wanted the child to get to know his own kind. draconianraven ...well... that was an interesting newcomer, that elf-- waitasecond. Didn't she know him from some... the lab, perhaps? That... he might be the same person. Raven couldn't tell, her mind remembering only the interaction, not the figure.
...ah well. The elf was going inside, and Raven was outside with this stranger who'd mentioned... "'Hurt'?" she repeated to Veloren after a moment of silence. "They hurt people?" Just what she needed. Really. Raven had enough people getting hurt... especially in her ever-growing family. "Curious and potentially dangerous though... that sounds about right..." ...great. More things to think about.
But these children-- they were such gorgeous beings, one jeweled, the other all in vibrant hues of purple. How could Raven think anything bad of them?
Kyocho Vin slowly came to a stop upon hearing the words of pain and hurting. Looking down toward the ground sheepishly. "Sometimes it does hurt, but it doesn't all the time. It's hard to explain how it feels." The elf smiled, his back towards the group, "But in the long run... it's worth it." Vin nodded as he stepped into the shop. "Thank you, I'm sure he'll be a good boy while I’m inside." Ono watched as his guardian walked away, unable to even fathom what they had been talking about. Pain... and hurting, the boy didn't even begin to understand what these words meant. Was it like when you fell down and scrapped your knee? "Whets the boy name?" Ono asked, staring up at the one wielding the powerful broom of might. Syrie "Well, yes. He's right, it's not that it's painful for everyone - I just know that my father had a hard time because of a medical condition." Veloren smiled brightly. "As for Ruka himself? He's a darling. I've never met a sweeter child." The lykin didn't want to scare the woman with the gem hanging from her neck -- that wasn't really his intent...it was just that there were dangers inherent with anything that siphoned from your life-force, and he knew it.
When the small bejeweled child asked him what Ruka's name was, he started to open his mouth but was interrupted with the child in question chirruped out first, "His name is Ru--"
"Ruka!" The boy that looked suspiciously like a girl fluttered his wings and put his hands on the ground to push up. He could stand already, but he could not walk - and his standing required that he hold onto the gem-necklace and keep his large wings out for balance.
Yes, he was a bit advanced for his age-type; the Medium herself had commented that he was most definitely not normal. Too strong even as a gem. draconianraven "I see," Raven considered after a long moment. "I'm glad to hear that you're such a good boy, Ruka," the girl smiled. It gave her hope-- in truth, Raven had enough trouble with her children that she'd already seen emerge. Between haunted kids, dna-engineered kids... weird kids... she had her hands full most of the time, but that was all right. She kind of looked forward to seeing another kid in her house. After all, there weren't any more babies anymore...
Kyocho Vin was about finished when he gathered the last of the few things he needed. The elf was planning out some activities to help out Arranos. Then Vin wandered his way on over towards the counter with the panther like cat, but the elf could tell by just looking into it's eyes. "I guess I just leave the cash with you. There’s a bit more than what I owe ya, but that’s fine." The elf left the cash on the counter and headed out off the shop and looked directly at his charge then towards Ruka. "looks like you made a new friend." Vin smirked. "Yeah his name is Ruka" Arranos smiled back. "Awesome. Well I got the things we need and we need to start heading back before it gets dark. We got quite a walk ahead of us." Vin smiled with a bit of a frown. "Oh... ok... Vin." Arranos looked at the small boy and smiled. "I gotta go Ruka. I'll see you again some time." Arranos looked up from Ruka and to Vin. "Hey thanks for watching over Ono. I appreciate it." Vin smiled and nodded to Veloren. Syrie Phaid shook his heavy head and twitched his tail before nodding. He could not speak to those that didn't understand the Pard language, but he could understand english and make that understood. The Siamese-colored creature cracked it's jaws open slightly in a sort of friendly laugh. Certainly, Vin had overpaid a bit, but that was how things went sometimes.
He had no thumbs and could not open the cash-wrap drawer. Ah well, perhaps he'd tell Ren and the Lykin could see the man got change sometime.
Veloren smiled brightly. "Thank you for shopping here, and thank you both for coming to visit. Please feel free to come back anytime, I"m sure Ruka would like that." He waved away the man's thanks; it had been a pleasure to see his younger sibling making friends - no thanks were needed.
They were leaving? But they'd just met! Ruka sucked on his bottom lip a little bit and contemplated pouting, but he did not. He knew that he would see Ono and his parent again...and possibly the lady with the necklace and the sadness. Instead, Ruka smiled and clapped his hands together in a pleased manner - something that caused him to fall back onto his backside with a plop. "Oof--" He looked surprised, but it didn't hurt so he didn't cry, just giggled a little bit. "Bye-bye Ono!"

In dreams...realities cross and collide with the imaginary and all things are possible...
Always, always the dream-scape was more 'comfortable' for the tiny Iridae with the quiet manner. He found that in Dream, he could "walk" from place to place and "see" things that he might not have otherwise seen. Besides, when he was gliding through Dream and Dreamscapes, he wasn't limited by any physical forms.
Though the Iridae Rukashel had been reborn as a baby, in dreams and in Dream he was ephemeral - his shape changed with his will and by whim; he could be older, younger, he could be whatever he wanted though the form that he was most comfortable in was a mid-to-teen extrapolation of his "current" self.
While Ruka didn't know about his "past", some 'habits' (such as his form and mannerisms in Dream) lingered even with rebirth).
Tonight? Tonight he was enjoying the freedoms afforded him with the Dreams and Nightmares pre-occupied. Usually the Elder Nightmare, Uisce, either watched over or assigned one of the others to keep him out of trouble, keep him from going into dreams he shouldn't...but since Syrie - his caretaker - had dissappeared, they had been spending much of their time frantically hunting the mists for any information.
He was alone. The Iridae's wings fluffed out, he was quite happy to be able to wander people's dreams, see what was what - effectively, he was visiting with others subconsciouses, connecting with other minds the only way that was available to him currently - via dreams.*** A boy with startlingly bright magenta eyes crept through a dark, primeval forest: every leaf and twig and insect and tree was exaggerated the way one's imagination knows best. He slunk along with a semi-shapeless "beast" at his side (one can only presume that the "creature" was his constant canine companion, the wolf-pup, Cur); boy and dog were tracking something through the lush and vibrant foliage.
The dense, dark shape that was Cur lifted it's head, sensing something watching. Morgan paused, one foot moving slowly to return to the spongy, moss-and-leaf covered 'earth' underfoot. "What is it, boy?" Morgan's voice sounded odd even to his own ears, kind of...hollow and unreal; a little bit like a recording played back rather than the "real thing".
"Is someone there?" The youngling reached around and pulled a spearstick from his back and held it before him as though it really did have a deadly, poison-tipped point at the end. Morgan wanted that and typically, that's what he would have had...but this time there was another with a stronger will that was calling the 'shots'.
Ruka's age changed a bit as he had watched Morgan; by the time the other boy had called out and armed himself, the form the Dream Iridae found himself in was one closer to his new "friend's" age, but not quite what he had intended.
"I'm here." His voice tinkled through the dream like little bells, golden and sweet.
Ruka appeared to Morgan as some odd sort of forest sprite. A faerie. He didn't see the feathery wings - in his mind they were gossamer with tiny veins and striations in them, almost clear and rather like a dragonfly's. His ears were pointed and tipped in lavendar and as for costuming...well, that changed in the other boy's eyes. Ruka didn't mind; after all, this was Morgan's dream, wasn't it?
All he wanted, was to chat and play. If the other boy wanted him to be a forest sprite or faerie or whatever, then that's what he would be so long as they could be "friends", even for this little while. Dreams moved very quickly for children, so he wouldn't have too much time to get to know Morgan and Cur; Ruka did enjoy streaking through the forest (faeries were naked, were they not?) with his new-found friend and having strange adventures.
Several times, the other boy's dream almost turned into nightmares and it took a lot of effort on Rukashel's part to keep them from going there. Morgan had a very strong will; enough that in his own mind, he could change a Dream Iridae's form (slightly, and with his "permission") and nearly bring monsters out! As morning (for the Rinasci child, anyway) approached, Ruka started to say his good-byes. He had to leave before Morgan woke.
"Will I see you again, Ru'a?" For whatever reason, Morgan hadn't picked up on the "k" sound in the other's name; the faerie had answered to it so he continued to call it such. "I found you, so you have to grant my wish right? I want to play with you again!"
The Dream Iridae giggled and nodded - of course Morrie would see him again! It had been entirely too fun! But he had to go, and he said so before dissappearing in a puff of glitter and smoke (theatrics purely for Morgan's benefit) and returning to his little "safe-house" in Dream.
"I think...it's time for a nap..." Ruka felt himself slipping gently into the arms of true sleep; though he didn't know the name for it, he'd "dream-walked" and that took a lot of energy from him at his current stage in life - even if the minds of children were far, far more open than adults...Cross-posted into Morgan's journal (Rinasci)

Grand Manor; Lupix Sanctuary
Veloren sighed and put his head down on the table to rest just a moment. He was so tired, so very tired. With Syrie gone, the houses ran amok -- he wasn't even certain how his parent could keep it all under control! Ren certainly couldn't! But he had a little time to rest before Bree brought Ruka back in from playing; the small Dustling dragon was the a sweet, almost motherly sort (he had several kids all on his own, thank you) and Veloren had nearly jumped at the chance to take a nap.
Unfortunately, he'd forgotten something: A very chirpy, very obnoxious something. That was actually a someone. About five minutes into his nap, the candy-pink and cream colored Lykin was jolted awake by his cellphone. A call from Tey - one of Syrie's other children - could he please come get the baby now?
"Oh damn, oh...I'm so sorry, oh man, I'll be right over." Ren snapped his cell shut and scrambled out of the chair so he could get up, get his shoes on - falling over and bumping his head in the process - just to run out and see that Ruka and Bree were there. Oh wait, he shouldn't leave them...but...Heka was laying over there, as were Murmur and Phaid. Between the beasts and Bree his Iridae 'sibling' should be fine.
Quickly he explained the situation and then bolted to leave the Lupix Sanctuary and pick up the Myna-child from his brother's apartment...
*** Bbbbbrriiing! Brrriiiingg!! Sanghyang "rang" happily at his pink-haired 'nanny' when Teylei handed him over.
The water elemental sighed and quietly informed his Lykin brother that the child had been making all sorts of interesting sounds, all day...but that he'd at least learned to recognize a few key things. Not that either youth had time to go over it just then. Tey was late for work, and well, Ren...Ren had Ruka and Bree and the beasts to hurry home to.
"God Tey, I'm sooo sorry! I promise I'll make it up to you - thanks again, oh man, this has been a nightmare."
"Ni'mare! Ni'mare! Sooooorry ni'mare!" Sanghyang shrieked happily and clapped his hands together as the two youths said their goodbyes. He would not be silent the whole drive back to the Sanctuary; so by the time that Veloren made it home, he'd driven the Lykin crazy. As a matter of fact (and much to the boy's amusement), 'Ren seemed ready to strangle the smiling, laughing, fax-modem-sound-making child. What fun!
*** "Okay, both of you are going to play nice together, okay? Ruka, this is your brother, Sanghyang...Hyan, this is Ruka. I know you two haven't really met before now, but please...please don't fight too much?" Because he was at his wit's end with the whole "Syrie being missing" crap; Nanashi helped as much as he could, but for the last day or so, he'd been stuck dealing with the children all on his own.
A man could only take so much; nevermind that Veloren wasn't really a man at all. He was pretty young, all things considered (and he looked like an under-aged girl to top it all off) Usually he was really good about taking care of things when Syrie couldn't, but all the kids and the beasts and carring for Syrie's different properties had just wiped him out. It was naptime. The two boys would hopefully play nicely together in their enclosure he'd set up in the nursery.
If not, he just wouldn't get any sleep, now would he?
Lucky for Veloren, the two boys found that they had something very much in common: feathers. Once they realized that they were quite alike, it was smooth sailing between them for the most part; Ren got to collapse on the floor with a blanket and a pillow nearby, and they played and chattered and talked.
Ruka could "talk" better than Sanghyang could, but the Mynah-child could "speak" better. It made for an interested time (also, it helped that the Iridae had a lovely, shiney necklace they could play with).
When Ren finally woke up much, much later that night - it was dark outside and the two boys were curled together with a blanket, fast asleep....Cross posted to Sanghyang's journal (Incantation of the Spirit)

Journal Entry; Nanashi **Thank you Prox!** From Nashi's Journal I never had much to do with my younger siblings when they were very small, other than being formally introduced to tightly swaddled bundles of kit, and later to toddling children in formal clothing too large for them. Even Lune. When I really met my smallest brother, he was old enough to walk, speak, and argue.
So I am often puzzled and sometimes dismayed at Rukashel. He's a beautiful baby, that is certain, and I have been doing my clumsy best to care for him well, to feed and soothe and clean him. It is like and unlike the feeding and care of small animals; and I think I had better keep that observation to myself. Ruka wails and clings and drools. He is messy, stubborn, and irrational, and he cannot tell us outright what he wants and needs, and so I must play a guessing game, based in his expressions and his sounds. I am getting it right more often.
- he is frightened of my summons, and that makes life difficult, sometimes.
There is still a deep attachment, though. When he cries, I want to soothe him. When he smiles, I smile too. It is unlike anything else; not my care for Ruka's father, not my care for my smallest brother or my parents.
I am seeing the world with a little less cynicism. That may be dangerous. I accept it, though. I have ties of love here, and it is no longer deniable. A mate, and children. Maybe I can live normally.

It had been several days since the meeting with Onoway, and the slim Dream-child was still babbling on about him. Mostly, it was a lot of "Ono!!" and "Go-see!!" paired with wistful looks from the boy, but Veloren could only shake his head and offer Hyan or a Dustling Dragon or Pard as the child's playmate.
Those were fun, and yes...Ruka did like the larger beasts (and the ones that could assume a more humanoid form)...but Ono was special. Ono's skin glittered with beautiful gems and Ono was Big and new!
Ruka sat with his feet splayed to either side of a pile of brightly colored building blocks. He was "behaving" for his big brother while the Lykin cleaned Syrie's art studio -- dusting and things like that so that when the kitsune finally returned to them his places wouldn't be a total mess.
Sometimes he wished they didn't go so many places...but it wasn't in his nature to complain -- it was his nature to change things when he could...and make the best of things when he couldn't.
Ren came close and Ruka reached out with one hand to grab his silky tail. "Ono soon?" He was satisfied when the pink-haired boy nodded distractedly and patted his hair gently, assuring him they would try to find his new friend as soon as they could.
He could wait. There were blocks to be played with, after all!

Grand Manor; Lupix Sanctuary...
Ruka sat calmly in his parent's lap, tugging at the long blond hair that fell into reach of his grasping, pudgy hands. The adults were talking around him in excited tones - his Dad had returned and everyone was in an uproar to hear what happened. Papa was quietly snuffling and wouldn't let go of one of the now-blond kitsune's hands...Ren was weeping openly and with great relief.
He found these things so fascinating! But more fun was his Dad's new hair! So long and silky~ Great feeling against his fingers and even better length for tugging- not pulling (for that would earn him a swat) but tugging gently to feel it sliding through his fingers.
At first, no one had recognized the kitsune -- he had been thrown about on the trip 'back' to Gaia (courtesy of those two wizards magicks) and that had done strange things to his hair. But now they were all chattering and asking questions of him; wanting to know things that his tired brain was unable to formulate answers for. As a matter of fact, it was just about all the kitsune could do to lean against Nanashi and hold Ruka.
He'd gotten bigger - not a lot, but enough. Syrie noticed. and he had funny socks.
"Hey kiddo, what's with those socks, hmm?" Syrie's eyes were heavy, but as he had 'lost' one child already he really needed to spend time with this one. And Hyan. He would have to see Hyan soon...make rounds and all that. Later. When he wasn't exhausted. Perhaps after he'd talked to Nashi and told him his tale. And Ren. Ren deserved and explination too...
It was obvious to Ren and Nanashi that their beloved fox was just...not going to say anything about what had happened until he'd gotten some rest and some time with those he loved, so they instead spoke of other things.
Things like how Ruka was growing fast, as was Sanghyang....how Ruka refused to wear matching socks - how the pets were. They did not talk about the fact that Syrie had returned yet the Tall Tales kids were still missing. No mention of Khiarhu was made that night, no. The next day, yes - they could talk about all of those things and try to figure out what they would do and where to go next...but for the night?
It was just them. The here and now.
All the attention made Ruka very happy, and for the first time in ages he got to fall asleep in the warm safe haven of Syrie's arms. He wouldn't wake up there, oh no - the Daddies needed some time for Them but being able to fall asleep there was wonderful.
And for once, he didn't even Dream. He didn't want to leave Syrie's side even for that.
