"More like an octopus in the water, these things are like small propellers..." She said, with a slight raise in her brows.
She gave a nod, "Yeah. My dad was a drunk and hit me and mum. Mum decided to start drinking too and joined in. Neighbour called the cops on them and I was whisked away. The Wilsons adopted me out of pity, I think... Oh well," she gave a shrug, trying her best not to sound bitter.
She raised a hand and glanced at the sucker-cups lining her palm and finger.
"Wonder if I could climb walls with these..."

He nods a bit, not really commenting on Alys' history. No, it was probably better to get thinking to happier thoughts, although he wasn't sure that talking about climbing walls counted as 'happier', although at this point, it probably did. "Well, I've heard that octopi can climb glass walls. I'm sure given some time, you might be able to. At this point, anything seems possible."
Well, at least he was mostly dry now, except for his still soaked work pants. That was ok though, laying out his shirt on the rock he had been sitting on, before going back to his coat, retreiving the previously mentioned wallet. It took him a few to fish all the photos from the wallet and then walked over. "Here it is... My PBY. She was a late production model. Saw some service in the Pacific theater. Then once that wrapped up, the military started selling them off to other countries. I'm not sure how many owners she had before me, but she was pretty beat up when I got her. Here's a photo of when I got her...", he said, pulling out one photo of the plane, looking pretty bad off.
He then held out another picture, of the plane, all sleek, painted, and repaired. "This was taken a few months ago. The controls and wiring took a while to fix as well, but she was real a joy to fly." Yes, he does talk about the plane like it was a child. Or a friend. Or both.

"I'll practice and have fun scarring the crap outta people..." She snickered, somehow being reminded of old science lessons. She always hated those ditsy girls... and boy did they scream.
She moved closer to the edge again, being sure not to splash or touch the photographs; she didn't want to ruin them. Personally, she didn't see the hype, to her it was just an aircraft. But it was important to him, so she nodded as he explained 'her' condition when he bought it.
"Looks like you did a good job on restoring... her. I'll bet, if she could speak, she would probably be thanking you."

He chuckled a bit, "Well, just don't climb too high. Last thing we need is you getting hurt because you tried to play Spiderman." The pilot shuffled through a few of the pictures he had of the plane, letting Alys see them, since it seemed she didn't want to get them wet.
"I'm not sure she would now...", he said, as he looked over a few photos of him fishing from the top of the airplane. "When I was offered the money to pay off the company's debts, they said they'd use other transportation means, and put the PBY in storage for when I completed my services for the company. Considering what happens to folks around here and stuff, I'm doubting they actually did that. For all I know, they could have sold it to a museum, or worst..." He really didn't want to think about the fact that the plane could have been 'razorbladed', the act of turning the metal in a plane into scrap so it can be used elsewhere like in razorblades for example.
He stacked the photos back together, and returned them to their home in the safety of his leather wallet. "I'm sure she's fine though", he said with a smile that didn't hold much confidence for the statement.

"If the people here were behind the offer, then I'm sure they'll at least keep her in good condition while it's in storage. You could probably contect them and ask, or something," She gave a light shrug.
A tentacle made its way to about shoulder height, and patted him lightly, as if trying to comfort him. She was happy, they were starting to listen.
"I think at most, I had rats to look after. A white male named Stinky, and a black female named Cooper, she was expecting ratlings when I left, too. Hopefully the landlord will go in and realise I'm gone, and contact one of my aquiantances, and hopefully they'll adopt them... I doubt it, but one can only hope. Heh."

He smiled a bit, although it was odd to be patted by a tentacle. But he tried not to think of it as a bad thing. If anything, it seemed Alys at least understood what he felt when he talked about his plane. "I'm sure they'll be ok. They probably covered it up so they might be adopted by someone and in a nice pet cage somewhere safe."
Alex adjusted his sunglasses as he sat down on the sand and looked out over the lake. "You know, other than the fact that the wildlife and the population around here are pretty much one and the same, this really is a nice place." It was pretty much a tropical island with almost all the comforts of home. It probably had more comforts than he'd personally had, actually.
He didn't say anything afterwards, turning his attention from the lake towards the blue skies above, watching the occasional cloud drift by. Mostly he just wanted to try and enjoy that bit of calm, and not let himself worry about the past or the future. At least for that moment, things were alright.

"Mm," Alys replied with a nod, her appendages wrapping back around her. Another success!
She looked up into the sky, half-closing her eyes. Then back to the water, silent. Contemplating what to discuss, or whether to discuss at all. It seemed peaceful the way it was, despite her stomach giving off a loud growl, which in turn made her blush slightly.
"Feel like getting something to eat?" She asked, after a moment.

Food? He had forgotten all about the fact that they'd come out to the lake to fish, even though they hadn't found any fishing gear to speak of. "Oh, sure. I guess it is getting sort of late in the day. Let me grab my stuff", he said, as he scrambled back up, and grabbed his shirt and slipped it back on. He also picked up his shoes, but decided that he'd rather not wear them since they still probably had a bit of water that needed to evaporate from them. Plus, its not like it would kill him to walk barefoot for now. The leather coat he held with a hand, letting drap over his shoulder.
"I wonder what they've got to eat back at the village cafeteria tonight." His own stomach was feeling a bit empty now that the idea of getting something to eat had been brought up. He knew he wouldn't mind some fried chicken, or something else that might be totally unhealthy.

Alys stood up, shaking her legs a moment, trying not to notice the fact that they too were beginning to change. Luckilly though, it wasn't too drastic.
"I'm trying to ignore this craving for fish, which oddly enough was one of my favourite foods..." She blinked.
"Uh, guess I'll get to eat all the fish I want, now, huh?" Wow, was that a coincidence, or what that a coincidence? Maybe it was all pre-thought out. Maybe they saw her, being a loner coroner, with a liking for fish as food, and they decided to turn her into an octopus, or squid!
... Or maybe she was just paranoid. She mentally shrugged, and picked up her sweater and shoes.
"If you like, after we've eaten I can go find that photo of the Wilsons, for you."

He nodded some, as he started his walk back towards the village. "Oh, you don't have to go through the trouble if you want. I'm sure I can see it later when you've found it."
Now that Alys had mentioned her cravings for fish, it had made him wonder about himself. He wasn't changed, yet, so he really shouldn't have to worry about what he was eating. Right?, he thought to himself. He shrugged a bit to himself, and looked over, "Well, you are becoming something aquatic. I guess its not really that suprising. I wonder if they have sushi. Its fish, but its also well prepared fish. Eh, not like I ever went out and got any back home, but they did have some of the best noodle shops though."

"Noodles were my main source of food when I first got to New York, I don't think I've touched them since I started working..." She said, thinking a moment, "Sushi, raw fish... Not quite my cup of tea, but I'll probably end up eating it later..."
Later... when she was more of which ever she was becoming. She made a note to ask the lab techs, via her intercom.
This next question, seemed hard to ask. Maine because it was a touchy subject, maybe more so for Alex, who hadn't changed, yet. She continued walking, thinking on whether or not to ask if he knew what he was turning into.
Don't ask, he might get pissed.
She shivvered, feeling a little cold. Probably because she was soaking wet, and the sun was getting ready to set. She could put dry clothes on later, though. She was sure she wouldn't catch a cold.

Alex continued his walk up the path, looking back to Alys, nodding to her noodle comment. "I won't mention the number of times I had to make instant noodles while I was on the job. Some of my cargo runs lasted a good 8 hours solid. I'd land, get some nice hot water, a noodle cup, and dash back for the return flight. Or I'd keep a thermos of hot water nearby in fly and use it."
He chuckled a bit, "Mostly I ate them because I was putting most of the money I made back into the business, trying to pay off the debts. Had to eat poor to pay the bills."
It was her shivering that caught his attention though, realizing that she was pretty wet. He wasn't so bad off himself, but then again, he wasn't becoming a fish either, or he hoped he wasn't anyways. It was a simple motion of his arm as he held his coat over towards her. "I know it probably won't help a lot but if you're getting cold, you can use this till we get back to the village. Don't need you getting sick or something." No need to get sick and have a housecall by one of the doctors, is what he was thinking though.

With a slight smile, she moved the jacket over her shoulders and held it shut, "Thanks, Alex, I'll try not to get it wet."
She felt warmer already. Maybe it was a change in the temperature, or because she had gotten used to the water, or because she was turning into something aquatic and whatever it was, didn't like her being out of the water... Whatever it was, it made her cold, but she was warmer now.
"I probably won't get sick, never got into the habbit of getting ill growing up. But then again, we technically aren't in the 'real world' anymore. Who knows what my immune system'll be like now, or later."

He nodded a bit. "I'll dry it off when I get back to the duplex. It shouldn't be that bad off. Its not like I never got the thing wet before." He smiled some as he walked slowly in the direction of the Cafeteria. It shouldn't be much further at the rate they were going. Plus there was a laundromat next to the cafeteria, so it wouldn't be hard to dry some of the clothes off there either.
"Hmm, I never thought of it like that. Still, you probably shouldn't chance it. Just because you're a fish doesn't make you any less human." Ok, she wasn't exactly a fish, but he wasn't 100% sure what she was either, so it sounded ok in his mind. "And as for who would know, I'm sure the folks up in the labs might have some pretty decent guesses..."
And lo', the two arrived at the doors of the cafeteria, where much food could be had. Alex walked over to the doors to open it for Alys, since it was the proper thing to do.

"Good point. Damn people trying to play god." She huffed, but as they neared the cafateria, and as Alex opened the door, she could smell one thing that sent her tastebuds racing - Fish.
True, the odour probably wasn't that strong, but she could smell it, and her stomach wanted it. She nodded in thanks, and walked in, feeling the change in temperature, and letting the jacket open so she wouldn't over heat.
Alys sniffed the air, and headed towards the area to pick up a plate, and a knife and fork. Her next target was the seafood platter - There was the unmistakable scent of Cod, and she thought she could smell crab-meat, too. She took a piece of the Cod, and a few scoops of the crab-meat. Next was a glass of water, and then she turned, waiting for Alex with a smile on her face.
Now this is eating!
