I generally tack the 'k' on the end of magic simply for clarification from stage magic, as a few have already said. It's also a habit to spell it that way. I find I do that a lot when I write, and have to make the conscious move to remove the 'k.'
()() ()() ( . .) (. . ) O('')('') ('')('')O

And yet... I haven't seen a single referance to numerology or gematria in this thread, except for mine confused

I think that's because you know nobody knows what you're talking about. If you are going to post using a word you know people won't understand, elaborate. The guild is about learning rather than showing that you know more than someone else.

Phoenixfire Lune Soleil And yet... I haven't seen a single referance to numerology or gematria in this thread, except for mine confused Hmm... from my side, I didn't reply to that because I just don't know enough about it. All I know about gematria is that it studies the values of words in numbers. It's a hebrew-related thing, if I'm not mistaken. But so is numerology... ? You've made me curious now. sweatdrop I'll start figuring it out tomorrow... Or, after I finish Dante's Inferno. You've made me curious about a lot of things since you popped up on this board. I hope you'll stick around, it's very interesting to read your points of view.

The Spam Fairy I think that's because you know nobody knows what you're talking about. If you are going to post using a word you know people won't understand, elaborate. The guild is about learning rather than showing that you know more than someone else. Well the whole discussion is about the k in "magic" and why people use it... I'd asume people would know seeing as that's the topic of discussion, or at least it should be. I never said I knew more than anyone else, stop putting words in my mouth, it's fallicious and just makes you look more of a baiter. Ever thought that maybe I was just trying to spur conversation? Stop being so defensive, it's not becoming.
People in the discussion should know the words, seeing as it's the whole reason behond the k. If people don't know the reason, they shouldn't use it.[Helmorana] Hmm... from my side, I didn't reply to that because I just don't know enough about it. I hope you'll stick around, it's very interesting to read your points of view. 3nodding Numerology is a more general study whereas gematria is specific to Judeism and Kabbala if I remember rightly. Crowley loved numerology and gematria, and he added the k to make the word literally more magical. razz Thank you, I try to promt interesting discussions where I can ^^

I prefer to use magick because otherwise people do mistake it for a stage trick or somthing that we can do at any moment with a effect that is flashy and easy to see

I use Magic because I like to think of it in a newer sense instead of the older sense. With the older times it was magick and I dont want to have to think of those darker periods where Wicca was marked as something different then what it really is.

[Helmorana] Magic... Because the "new-agey goody-two-shoes, the "let-us-all-be-witches", the "speak-ye-olde-english" and the "rename-everything-so-it-sounds-epic" philosophies aren't my cup of tea. I find it pretentious and fake. I'm more of an Earl Grey/Ceylon kind of a girl. Fruit teas taste just like juice with hot water. Milk please, hold the sugar. nice one

I use both... the 'k' I use to avoid confusion with 'magic tricks'... But I do prefer without the k.

Hmm... reading these, I suppose I must put in another word.
I'm in agreement that the word "magick" holds more... stuff behind it then just the word "magic," but I really think that that is only because back when wiccans were coming out of hiding (after the witch-burning acts were repiled in England), they needed something to destinguish what they did from the so called "magic" preformed on stage. I think now, however, wiccans are out of the closet enough to spell it properly, reclaim it, as it were.
[Edit- Thank you for setting that streight, Pehonix]

Wicca was created in the 1900s, it's Witchcraft that's much older.
