some jackass grabbed me when I was 12 and I kicked him really hard in the shins and punched him the stomach. He walked away, but I was still mad so I ran to a security guard and they made a big deal out of it.

I was honestly pretty embarassed at the time, but after that, I really wanted to learn how to fight and protect myself whenever I would need it. Till this day, I still hate the feeling of being helpless...its like nails on a chalkboard to me.

My best friend, at the time, when I got back to school, had been part of a martial arts group since she was 8 and so I started to join with her. At first, it was really hard for me to focus because I had never tried anything like that before, but soon, I learned to savor it as both an art, and a strength in my character.

screw all pervs.

What got me into the martial arts seen was watching Xena. Also watching my husband which was my boyfriend at the time practice his martial arts. He showed me the news paper clippings and also a martial arts magazine that had articles about him teaching martial arts in them. He inspired me to try it and Xena showed me that chiks can kick butt just as hard as the guys. biggrin

I guess the intrest in Eastern philosophy led to the interest in Eastern martial arts and that led to intersets in other martial arts. they are also a very beautiful thing much like other people watch a dance and think "how beautiful" for me I watch someone doing Nine Psalms and feel the same thing.

My story is somewhat amusing, I suppose.

It all started with a crush, and a commercial. When I was seven (13 years ago), I had some crush on this kid who was in Tae Kwon Do. A green belt, no less. This interested me, having never really been the sportsy type. When I arrived home one day during that school year, and turned on the TV, there was a commercial for a local TKD school that had been around for a year or so. It was the same school he went to, so I begged my parents to join. My dad used to be in martial arts, so he supported the idea. I joined, but as soon as I reached about green belt, the boy who got me started moved across the country and I never saw him again.

I've been in it since that day. Never wanted to quit, though I always laugh at how such a silly thing could get someone started in something that would last so long.

Your what, 17 years old. Yeah, sure, you'd be a 5th Dan by now. But only in America.

my older brother dated my master's niece and so he started and i went along because my brother said that if i went i could be like Donittelo... he quit when they broke up and i stuck with it... but if i hadn't already been in it, DBZ would most likely have started me too ^^

A boy got me started, paid for me too but never told me he was for the first three months XD I was kindau pset when I found out. got to be best friends with him, broke up, dropped out of TaweKwonDo, and just in the last six months (this is 3-4 years later) I've taken up at InfernoMartialArts in my area, grappling, MMA, and Mayu Thai Boxing, along with two days called 'fightclub' which is just hell ._. It's nothing but conditioning and running and jump rope and stuff.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Kindergarten, the endless slew of Hong Kong kung fu movies and that my mother hates the fact that I want to do martial arts. That and I have a cousin who perved on me when I was a kid and made a grab for me once. Oh and lots of repressed anger.

I love sandbags!!!

To be honest, when I was small and I took Tae Kwon Do I was sooooo into it at first. My grandmaster was super proud of me in my white belt days. But hearing his compliments made me slack off. And after I quit I regret it to the fullest. crying But I gotta thank ppl like Bruce Lee, Tony Ja, and Musashi Miyamoto man. Reading up on them and watching their movies *Musashi himself didn't have a movie so I read on him sweatdrop * motivated me to get back into the Martial Arts. So I wanted to enroll in Chanbara training last year but dojos are FAR from my house. I'm a MA freak but I'm not that obsessed to travel 10 miles to attend a dojo. So I found a Chinese Gung Fu institute close to my school, and I'm gonna attend it! Until I just do my own training routines and read until I have to time to start off for real.
