Iyasu picked up her bachi gently and started to strum on ni no ito. She gracefully transitioned from one chord to another, taking her time to make sure the two students could catch on. After about five measures, she stopped and nodded to the girls. "Who wants to go first?"

"Umm I will..." she said and picked up the shamisen. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She put her hands on the strings and began to play the measures. It was slower and not as good as Iyasu's but it was okay.
When she was done she made a weird smile and laughed. "How was it?" she said knowing it was a bit dumb. She knew she sucked...

"It was very good, Arriku-chan! However, when you were transitioning your chords, your hands were a little sloppy and you played a few wrong notes in the first couple of measures." Iyasu replied, as she would with any student, "You've got it, you just need to work on it. Ready, immuto-chan?"

Popo gave a nervous smile and a half laugh. She closed her eyes, focused, and began. She played slower than Iyasu had, but mostly all the right notse. It wasnt bad, either. Her form was nearly perfect. Popo opened her eyes and looked at Iyasu, "How was that onee-san?"

Akasha smiled. She sat cross legged and listened to Popo's song.

"Very nice, Popo-chan! Everything was done very well, give or take a few notes here or there. You did very well, both of you. I'll repeat it and then both of you try to play it together. We'll gradually speed up the tempo once we finish each section." Iyasu smiled to the girls, just before repeating the section once more.

Ariku smiled and nodded to the teacher. She looked at the strings quickly and went over the measures quickly in her head. She thought she had it now.

"Ready to play it back?" She asked in a warm smile. She placed her hand onto her thigh and began to pat to keep the slow tempo for them.

Ariku nodded to Iyasu. She set up her shamisen again and began to play. She did much better this time! She thought about what Iyasu had said about her hands. She kept them strong but graceful. She pictured Iyasu's hands so she could play the same notes. She kept on tempo and counted in her head. When she was done she sighed.
She was quite proud of herself. She had improved and that was all that mattered to her at that very moment. She knew perfection didn't come instantly.

Popo nodded, too, and syncronized playing with Ariku. She played much better, too. This time she had the beat right with just a couple of wrong notes, but still very well done. She hoped that she played to Iyasu's satisfaction. It was constantly in her head to live up to the expectations Popo thought her onee-san possessed. She stived to never disappoint and worked hard for her constant approval.

"Very good, girls!" Iyasu stood up and applauded, "Graceful, percise and played very well. You two definately ready for the next part. Or do you wish to take a break?"

"I believe that we should go on. That way we don't forget it or anything." she said politely. Ariku sat her shamisen down in front of her.

"Let's continue. Now watch and listen closely." Iyasu picked up her shamisen and began to strum once more, this time without her bachi. Her finger tips fluidly struck each string while her left changed notes with the same ease. Her tempo was the same from the first time through, but she moved up to seven measures this time.

Kioku blushed and timidly watched the girls play. She wanted to join in, but didnt know if she needed permission first or not, so Kioku settled for sitting in the far back of the room.
