Reactions-o to Gerry-o
Before phandom: "Um...he's cool...yah...Not a bad figure...Not such a good voice though...he's kinda...handsome...wait a minute...um..."
After phandom: "And, coming up to the mirror now, it's Gerry! ...Yay, teh echo voice. Computers are so handy for edits now. *sigh* Oh gosh... AGKHMYEARS!!!! *covers ears* FOR HEAVEN'S FREAKING SAKES, GERRY, GET A BETTER VOICE!!! La la la, I can't hear you! OMG time for the swish...SWISH! Good Gerry. Now... oh no, I do NOT want to hear him mess up MotN again! *switches to French version* That is better. Gee, I love that guy's voice. Whoever he is. But there's still Gerry's image... Too pretty. Way too pretty. Erik's supposed to be hideous! Wait... well, Gerry's hideously pretty."

Uhm...what's with the "O"s?
Though...I'd agree on the "hideously pretty" part.
I seriously cannot understand why people find him so attractive. Or attractive at all, for that matter.
Me: "Uhm...he's...just another actor. He looks like the rest of them. And his smirk is terribly obnoxious. And his voice...euh. There is something very...irritating about him. *Twitch*"
Don't even get me started on some of the pictures of him I've seen. gonk

PhantomoftheFox Why don't I like Gerard Butler? I can't really name one thing that puts me off entirely. It's more an assortment of little things that just grind my nerves... We do not like his voice so rough We do not like his chest so buff We do not like the way he prances We do not like his spandex pantses We do not like his poofy shirt And how we hates that stupid smirk! We do not like his shiny hair We do not like lack his lack of flair Or how he throws around his cape (Hey, Gerry! Take a clue from Snape!) We do not like him here nor there We do not like him anywhere We do not like the Scottish man That's why we second Uta-san 3nodding Lord of the Rings and Dr. Seuss are bad for me... *cough* Fox, I think I love you heart

Utakan 1. His singing is bad. Granted, for a man new to singing, he did fine. However, compared to anyone else in the movie who had years of professionalism under their belt, then he did badly. 2. His attitude While Schumacher is responsible for the major sexified attitude of the film, he carried an attitude most of the film as if he wasn't deformed and was basically some cocky guy in a mask for show. 3. His acting Not just in this film, but in a great number of films he has been in. He seems to wear the same expression--a cocky smirk--and traipses around like he is the god of sexiness. Now personally, I don't find him attractive so that atribute just makes him intolerable to me. And with the role of The Phantom, he oozed that poor acting trait which just made it all the less believable that he was a pitiful creature of a man who had been abused and hated all his life. in answer to yours 1. yes he did have little singing opportunities before Phantom, but I dont think he did a bad job, it rather fit with the phantoms character, granted he is definitely nothing like Michael crawford 2.He has to act that way in order to play the part of the almighty phantom 3. cocky smile=he knows something everyone else (Christine) did not

Um, Erik is supposed to have an ethereal voice. Not a mediocre voice. And the Phantom had no reason to be cocky. He's a deformed man who has been shunned all his life, even by his own mother, and he's pretty much insane. Why would he be cocky and all "yeah I'm so badass"?

TheLostOne42 in answer to yours 1. yes he did have little singing opportunities before Phantom, but I dont think he did a bad job, it rather fit with the phantoms character... Fit with the character how? Erik is supposed to have the voice of an angel, not a rock star. Granted this is never explicitly stated in the movie, so you could argue that it's 'ALW's image of the Phantom' for him to have a rock star voice (excuse me while I gag myself), but even then Erik is shown as being a musical genius; he composes, he taught Christine to sing, and he seems to have a pretty good idea of what he's talking about in half his notes to the management. Therefore, you can see how it's glaringly weird for him to actively and frequently hit wrong notes almost every time he sings. Talent may not be implied, but learning certainly is. If the man can write an entire opera he can bloody well hit a C above middle C without going flat. It's just not logical, and it's annoying to those of us who have the slightest smattering of musical knowledge. TheLostOne42 2.He has to act that way in order to play the part of the almighty phantom Bzuh? First, what 'almighty phantom'? Where is it in the script that Erik has thinks he's a sex god? Going by the basest interepretation of the script, he doesn't. "Repulsive carcass,"... "Loathsome gargoyle,"... etc, ringing a bell? Erik doesn't think he's sexy, he thinks he's hideous and no one will ever love him. Now, I think you and Butler both have cockyness and sex appeal confused with authority. You can show power and command in a character without strutting and posturing. If that is indeed what Butler is trying to do, every one of my teachers would call it dreadful overacting. To those of us who are a little harder to impress, it comes off not charismatic, but full of himself. Since you mentioned Michael Crawford, go on YouTube and actually watch one of his performances... He shows more power and charisma in a single gesture than Butler does in the entire movie. TheLostOne42 3. cocky smile=he knows something everyone else (Christine) did not Which is... what exactly? That he's going to be feeling her up soon? It's still an annoying gesture that makes me want to punch him in the face.

You know, I think they went for feelings in the voice, and intimidatingness, rather than making Erik have a beautiful voice. Now answer: if Erik didn't have a beautiful voice, how would he be an angel of music?
To the combination of Joel and ALW, I say this: RAWR.

I don't like him simply because the Angel of Music is supposed to be able to sing. sweatdrop
Not to mention that in 2004 John Owen Jones was playing as the Phantom in London... he would have been such a perfect choice for the movie. crying Go to www.youtube.com and search for his videos to see what I mean.
