I'm usually very open-minded to all genres, but one book I absolutely REFUSED to finish was Eragon. That book was SO terrible...It made my eyes bleed just looking at it. gonk

The Redwall series. There's something about animals being in medieval times and fighting that disturbs me o.o I don't like most animal books for some reason, but I ADORE animal movies. I actually did like Animal Farm, I think because of how the animals were humanized. I actually don't like most westerns, romances, and the magic fantasies most people like. There are SOME I find and like. It just depends... I'm weird blaugh PinkevilBob Jackie-senpai I've also been interested in Watership Down though.... That movie gave me nightmares, so the likely hood of me reading that book are very small. Is that the one with the bunnies? The EVIL bunnies!? gonk crying They have an anime movie?? and the bunnies are evil?? gonk gonk crying That movie was HORRIBLE! I was like, horrified ;_; Leavaros To tell you the truth though, I don't think I could ever bring myself to read a romance novel, or a truly boring book. I'm crazy about the study of religion and philosophy, though, and am quite the history buff Heh, I actually like studying religion and philosphy and history too. I haven't studied them TOO much. I haven't been brave enough to go delve on my own through the mass of information and books sweatdrop ....Languages, history of languages, roots, Latin, art, crafts... <.<;;; I'm actually interested in a lot of things

Leavaros canadian_trekkie junkpile The Bible, The Book of Mormon.....I had them crammed down my throat from birth till I was 18. That, or anything from Gene Roddenbery I SMITE YOU!!! GENE RODENBERRY IS GOD!!! Sorry. My inner trekkie escaped. She was quickly rechained. I will read anything if: A) It has words that appeal to my mature state of mind B) Is funny C) if the back sounds interesting I love romance novels, too. The ones I like are Siloette (I totally spelled that wrong) Bombshell books, which are about women in places the are generally man dominated. VERY good reads. You just flip past the sex scenes. That sounds about like me. I mean, I'm a fantasy freak, but fell in love with Ender's Game. To tell you the truth though, I don't think I could ever bring myself to read a romance novel, or a truly boring book. I'm crazy about the study of religion and philosophy, though, and am quite the history buff. Still, I want to write fantasy, the genre to which I love dearest and hold nearest my heart. -LD P.S. If you are going to use Latin in your signature, at least make sure that it is legitimate. Seriously gonk Though I may not read the bible, that's because I have it nearly memorized.......had to read it every other week cover to cover. same with the Book of Mormon. but because of my ignorance of any other religions up to that age the study of other religions, history, philosophy and how they tie together has become one of my passions. As for fantasy novels I am not picky on what I will begin reading. What I continue to read on the other hand.... So far I have loved every second of reading The Wheel of Time series. On to the subject of the thread though. I absolutely cannot STAND most teen fiction.....no not just the fantasy the Fiction in general. I realize that they are written so a developing mind can have a step Dr. Seuss and Tolstoy, but once I got past that level of reading I couldn't go back without wanting to beat the author with the very tome they created. Oddly enough, I can still read The Chronicles Narnia....it feels almost reminiscent of a more innocent time in my life.

Hmmm... Where to begin... and in advance- Please don't hate me, I'm just stating my 'pinions...
I hate Harry Potter, Eragon, anything not Fantasy (I know this is judgemental of me, but I have my reasons), I ended up hating the Wheel of Time series - If you have read up to the end and don't know why they are bad just ask, I will tell; I don't like Terry Goodkind - But I'll be damned if I haven't come this far just to be stopped by a couple bad apples in the tree(I.E. Temple of the Winds, Soul of the Fire, Naked Empire, Chainfire; But phantom wasn't that bad...); I pretty much hate on all teen fantasy...
Wow... I am purdy mean...
EDIT** Hmm, that was kind of an abrupt stop...

EDIT** Hmm, that was kind of an abrupt stop... Though I agree with your choices of hates books, it seems as though you actually read them. Like with Terry Goodkind, you stated that one of the last books was alright. In order to get there, you had to read the previous. I believe this is about books you refuse to read. And although I detest teen fantasy as well, I tend to state my reasons for such a wide spread claim. You also state you hate anything not fantasy. That's very limiting. There are many great books that fit into Sci-Fi and fantasy both. How many non-fantasy books have you read? Sorry to be on the slightly harsh side, but we love to debate here. I'm preparing you. Demon and Leavaros will bite your head clear off! ~Kiyo

Well, firstly, the first four books within the Goodkind series were given to me as gifts when I started my fantasy rampage. Thus I read them. And having read that far in the series I decided to give the rest a try. Off and on I read, but I decided not to read any again and sell them to a used book store. I may have been a bit misleading when I posted that, so I apologise on that account.
My dislike of teen fantasy spawned from... Animorphs? And then my mom decided to buy me the Harry Potter books as they came out... And I still have not ready the last 3... I thought the characters, (as far as I read - though I seem quick to judge), very static. there was little development in either plot or characterization. It is a good read for light readers, but for something deeper that spins a web around you to draw you in making you see the characters as real people who you might someday know or meet while throwing twists and turns putting them in situations you yourself might imagining being in... I would not reccomend it.
And I think my dislike of anything not 'fantasy' comes from reading too many bad 'others' and too many good 'fantasies'. You could very well find me a book that is non-fantasy that I might very well read and quite possibly enjoy. But without proper conditioning, (I.E. Bribing or testifying that the book changed your life), I would not touch one. And as to answer your question for how many I have read... Umm... Maybe fourty... I think I am being kind to say that much. But 30 at the least.
I have a little A.D.D. So you will notice me babbling and getting off topic quite often. Sorry for not putting reason to my claims in the earlier post, I was just being hasty. If you've any futher questions, then I will be happy to oblige.

Oh, and I absolutly refuse to finish LotR for any reason. Having read the first 4 chapters of Fellowship I nearly fell asleep. Just because Tolkien is a master of the literary devise does not mean he is the master of keeping my attention. If a book cannot grab hold of me within the first two chapters, then I usually give up on it. But honestly, I don't see what is so great abut his writing, he may have 'modernised' what we now call fantasy, but he was nothing special. The characters were bland, both in the movie and in what little I read. And after as much as I read, and to what effect it had on me, I agree to substanciate the claim that it was created as a bedtime story for his children...

It took me about two weeks to get through most of The Council of Elrond, and then I ended up skipping the last few pages of it, because I kept falling asleep. I also skipped the last few chapters. But TTT and RotK kept my attention better, so I finished both.

Anyway, there aren't many books I truely hate.
Though I don't care much for books written in first person, probably why I have yet to finish Interview with a Vampire.
There are some teen pirate novels, which are written in really wonky first person (First person, meets pirate slang, and funny accents). I sometimes glance at them in the bookstore, and the writing makes me gag.
Never read a romance novel, never cared to.
I pretty much love Sci-fi and Fantasy. Harry Potter being a favorite.
