I know what you mean. If they're defending gay rights then you'd think they wouldn't care if they'll be accused of being gay... stare

bonnou I actually have a rainbow belt and a rainbow ring I wear sometimes. When people ask if I'm gay I just say "Why, does it turn you on?" or something like that. It's funny when I'm with a girlfriend and people ask whee People shouldn't be afraid to wear the rainbow just because "Oh my god, people might think you're gay!" SO? How many people think you're a loser? (not to get derogitory(sp)) Let people think what they wish, the people who really matter will find out the facts before jumping to conclusions. I myself try not to make the statement "I'm strait" too much. I refrain from using it unless confronted by the harcore Antis or when I get hit on redface , but it can really change the atmosphere in a room. It can set others at ease because they know you're not alone and it makes the Antis relise that gays and straits will stand side-by-side to defend gay rights. That and it's nice to see old the guys squirm razz Yeah I like women, but I'll a kiss a guy to change the mood in the room. I can hold hands with a guy or a girl, doesn't bother me. Big guy hugs, sure why not, love is love. No one should be afraid to express who they are or how they feel. Never let symbolism keep you from wearing what you want or narrow minded people's opinions keep you from being who you are and expressing what you wish to express. o.o Wow, that's really cool =D

I don't think it's a big deal in most cases. Sure, some are worried, but others are just saying it to let people know that it isn't coming from the standpoint of someone who's gay and would CLEARLY be for the legalization (or whatever the topic happens to be about). I've done it a few times, but I don't have a problem with being looked at as gay, even though I'm not. Hell, I have fun with that! I've purposefully messed with peoples' heads by making them think I'm gay, before, and others just naturally assume I am because of my mannerisms (I'm very energetic with my speech, I tend to dress on the snazzier-yet-casual side, I'll talk with a lisp at random (on purpose) to make things have more of a humor impact, and my guy friends and myself are all rather touchy. It's pretty funny, actually. We just all happen to be very secure about our sexuallity. Crap, am I still in parentheses?). The people that do say it out of defense are just scared that they'll be looked upon as gay, and in their mind that's a negative thing. They may be okay with others being gay, but so help them if THEY get called it! stare
People shouldn't look at things as "gay" or "straight". They should look at them as "human". Unfortunately, we ARE human, and that's always going to prevent us from seeing that way as a whole. Sad, isn't it?

I'm a straight person, but I can care less when people call me gay or lesbian. (Infact, there's a rumor that I am gay going around my school right now, and I think that it's too much of a waste of energy to try to debunk it rofl ). But really, too many people are worried about what people think of them, and that's why they specify their orientaion. People don't really realize that anyone might "turn" gay or bi any day, and that you can never know if you'll fall in love with someone of your own gender the next day. I agree with Karnell, that "people shouldn't look at others as 'gay' or 'striaght'", rather, I think we should adopt the feelings of the Edo period in Japan, that anyone can love anyone, and it doesn't matter what gender the couple is.
Though, I also must say that it's a little humorous to see striaght people in real life get all worried about being thought of as gay after defending gay rights, since they usually look so nervous and defensive.

My step dad believes with a strong will that I'm the gayest living thing on the planet. I don't bother saying anything, because it just dosen't bother me.

I've come to the outstanding conclusion that there are just too many paranoid people in the world. I think that everyone should just stop what they're doing right now and yell out "I'M GAY!" (even if you're not pirate ) Okay ready? 3.......2.......1.......

I love an idea in which you don't have to go by labels because of fear of what people might think of you but you have to face the facts! People have to much fear, hatred and BS stuck in their minds to be able to think like that. Do you think a homophobic person will stop yelling out "f*****t!'' or "You freaking fairy" from one day to the other? Its a happy fantasy to live in a world like that but sadlly the world sucks too much for it to actually happen!

Heh, even I can't avoid using labels, even if I hate them, but I try not to let them clould my vision.

Man, when I said in school that I wanted to join the GSA, all these people asked me "which side I was on." I just gave 'em a weird look and went, "You know what GSA means, right? It means I'm with the gay people," which prompted, ".....But are you gay?" to which I replied, "I dunno. Are YOU?" And then they all left. 'Twas funny.
