One hand had come up to grip the roots of his hair, and Mark could only shake his head, horrified that such twisted turns of Fate had led to something like this. "He is not something to be sold!" The trainer hissed, taking an aggressive step forward, oblivious to the pistol that was held threateningly at him. "This is sick--You'll never get away with this. I'll hunt you down myself and--" A bellowing screech drowned out the rest of his threats, and Mark spun to catch sight of his enraged and wounded Gyarados.
Icarus was going down quickly, his body shaking with crackles of electric discharge, unable to move for a moment after the Hyber Beam faded. However, he refused to be taken down, planning on destroying himself before losing to such tricks! Icarus opened his jaws wide and roared--simply launching himself at his opponents and beginning to Thrash. Heedlessly, he attacked both Pokemon, trainer, and himself, an enormous, writhing coil of hatred and rage. Soon however, his moves began to grow sluggish and tired, wounds lancing themselves over his thick, blue hide.

Cursing silently, the leader touched his com, pistol still trained on Mark in case he tried anything. "I said unconscious, not dead, you fools! We're to bring him in ALIVE or he's useless! Do you hear me?!? Concentrate on paralyzing him and get those Capture Balls ready! If one of you fails, the next tries...someone has to succeed! We've wasted enough time here already!"
Irritated with how this operation was progressing, he wondered if it might be time for more drastic measures. But, was Icarus already too far gone to even hear a threat, let alone respond? Did he even care enough about his trainer for that? Smoothly, the safety of the pistol was removed and he took a step closer to Mark. "I'm not sure if this will work or not, but if I have to, I'm not above using you for a bargaining piece. Of course, either you could do something to calm that beast down, or I could threaten to kill you if he doesn't. I lose nothing either way." His voice was cold and emotionless; there was no doubt he meant every word of his threat.
The squad was being decimated. They'd never faced anything quite like this and they realized now that they HAD underestimated the water dragon. He should have been subdued long ago, but still he fought on with the strength of a god. Switching tactics to focus on Thunder Waves and other status lowering moves, they fought to weaken Icarus enough that they could try capturing him with their specially-altered Pokeballs. They needed to hurry before the entire force was wiped out.

Paralysis gripped his body, and Icarus found himself moving at a slug's pace, his sides heaving as he refused to let himself be stilled. With the last breath in his body, he would destroy these fools, even at the risk of his own life. A hoarse bellow of challenge was emphasized with his powerful tail smashing itself into the ground, a look of bloody madness still lingering within his burning gaze as he lunged once more.
Mark could only stare at the leader for a moment, unable to comprehend what was being asked of him. "Help you?" He spat on the ground--and froze as the Gyarados screamed with frustrated pain. If Icarus kept this up, he would die, and these men weren't going to leave, just like Icarus refused to stop fighting. "Icarus!" His voice broke and Mark had to stop for a minute to compose himself, fists trembling at his sides. "Stop it, damn you! Stop!"
The beast froze for a moment, swinging his massive head around to locate the voice of the one he trusted, the one whom he'd grown so attached to. His jaws were parted, dagger-like fangs gleaming as harsh, choked breath forced itself out of his throat. And all he could see was the foolish, trembling person before him, his scent thickened with fear. Stop...? Stop fighting? So they could take him?! Was that what this man was saying? What Icarus failed to understand, however, was that Mark was fearing for him. A rumble coursed within the dragon's long body, erupting into a hemorrhaging scream of furious disbelief.
...But even as the Gyarados battled with this sudden 'betrayal', he had dropped his guard and completely forgotten about the men around them.

"NOW!" The leader's voice crackled through the coms at high volume. In seconds, a group coordinated Thunder Wave hit the water dragon as at least three, strange-looking Pokeballs soared through the air.
Capture Balls. Specially-engineered Pokeballs created to actually steal other trainer's Pokemon. They were best known for being used with a device called a Snag Machine during the "Shadow Pokemon" event some years ago. Then, they were used to rescue Shadow Pokemon and purify their hearts. Of course, once CRONUS got their hands on the technology, they found "other" uses for it.
The Capture Balls pinged off the dragon's thick, armored skin before opening and hitting Icarus with their red light beams.
"You've made a smart choice at last, my friend," the squad leader drawled, grinning in anticipation of their victory.

Icarus jolted violently from the surge of electricity, his bellow promptly cut off as the Capture Balls smacked into his back and drew him inside. They struggled wildly, furiously for a moment--and then stopped all at once, an eerie sense of foreboding now suspending itself within the air. Icarus was gone.
Mark had fallen to his knees, his eyes fixed upon the ball that now held his Pokemon. Or, rather, what had once been his Pokemon. He'd seen the fury and betrayal that had flooded the Gyarados' eyes, and had been too late to recitify his actions. He couldn't bring himself to respond to the squad leader, his hollow eyes only able to see the Capture Ball. What had he done...?

"About time," the squad leader mumbled to himself before turning his com back on. "Good work, crew. Now, collect the subject and let's get back to base."
Turning to Mark with an oily grin, he nodded as he holstered his pistol. "Pleasure doing business with you." One could almost see the sarcasm dripping from his words as he whirled on his heel and rejoined his squad. The entire group was gone in seconds, their fallen comrades, human and Pokemon alike, included. As well as Icarus.
Only the destruction to the land showed any sign of the ferocious battle that had just occurred.

((Insert a somewhat lengthy time skip here. x3))
A shuddery sort of moan made its way out of the lengthy monster, his massive body coiled up on itself where he had been left inside of a cage of some sorts--a cell. As though drunk, Icarus unsteadily lifted his head, great jaws lolling open with pain until the memories seemed to hit him like a sledgehammer. With a booming roar of fury, only muted due to his injuries, the Gyarados began to smash himself back and forth, his tail beating wildly upon any surface it could reach while his fangs scraped and sank into nearby walls. He wanted out! They had no right to cage him so, keeping him locked up after that damnable excuse for a human had given him up to save his own hide!
Icarus bellowed once more, screaming with rage as he continued to thrash, pent up frustration now flooding forth and renewing his strength, despite his injuries. He would kill every last one of them! He'd snatch them up and break them within his jaws until they'd gone limp and squirmed no more! With another roar that seemed to shake the very foundation of the cell, Icarus continued to ram himself this way and that, twisting, thrashing, flailing, seized by unquenchable flames of hating rage.

"Now, now, stop all this drama and fuss. At this rate, you'll not only damage yourself, but my precious cell!" The silky-smooth voice practically dripped with malice, even through the intercom speaker. One could almost imagine the sinister grin behind the microphone.
A soft hiss erupted from the air vents in the ceiling and there was a soft chuckle from the intercom. "How about I give you something to help you...relax? That way you can't cause anymore damage, eh? Don't worry...it won't take long before you're snoring, happily lost in dream land. It never does..."

The voice had the Gyarados jerk ungracefully to a stop, whiskers quivering as it twisted its sinuous body up towards the ceiling, hunting for the one who had spoken. A resounding bellow of outrage would be the man's reply, and there was no translation needed for the promise of pain that lay behind it. Icarus jolted at the hiss, massive jaws sagging open as he snapped furiously at the air vents--realizing suddenly that danger lay within the gas that was seeping into the room.
"Sleep? Not before I crush your cowardly body in half, human!" Icarus roared, his meaning unitelligible from the beastly sound that burst from his lengthy form. He could feel himself beginning to weaken, his massive head weaving back and forth as the urge to slumber. No! He couldn't sleep, he wouldn't allow himself to be subdued again...A spark of anger was all the Gyarados needed to remember his rage, seizing onto it and forcing it to flood through him once more, his body literally shaking with his next scream.
If anything, the intensity of his thrashing had doubled, for the beast had all but worked himself into a bloodlust, screaming, thrashing, dagger-like fangs clashing furiously against the cell walls and tearing off whatever they could. He would not lose again! The drug's potency was drowned for now, blanketed beneath the quivering, seething ocean of rage that had gripped the Pokemon once more.

Fortunately for Dr. Hakan, the intercom hid his true reactions from his experiments. Taken aback by this subject's strength, even Dr. Hakan hesitated in silence for some time. When it became obvious that antagonizing this beast, at least right now, was not the smartest idea for either the facility or the subject himself, Carl's entire demeanor changed.
"Alright, I understand that you're furious. You've been dragged here against your will and placed in a cell. But, I promise, this is all for your own protection. If you'd just calm down a bit..." Dr. Hakan spoke quietly and calmly, trying to tame the savage beast. If he kept pumping the gas into the room and could manage to talk Icarus down from this adrenaline rush, maybe he could still subdue the beast.
"Please, don't injure yourself further, my friend. You must calm down..."

The man's voice altered smoothly, no longer infuriating, but rather soothing. It only made Icarus wrinkle his lips back, both fang and gums bared as he lifted himself up to bellow until he was hoarse in front of the intercom speaker. Whether it was one way or not, he didn't know, but--"For my protection?! I desire no protection from filthy humes! I've crushed your men and their useless slaves that you call Pokemon--what protection could you possibly offer me?!" The Gyarados was not one to be placated, smashing himself against the speaker next, his fangs making the metal squeal with pain as they punctured the bottom, roughly, ignoring the fat jolt of electricity that sent his body into spasms.
Perhaps Icarus would have settled himself down after a while due to the drug, and his own weariness. He'd fought long and lost today, and was already little more than miserable. But to be called this hume's friend? The Gyarados roared his protest, his massive tail smashing itself into the wall--before launching himself into another thrashing fit. Calm down?! Never, not for this hume, or for any other!

Switching the intercom off to spare his ears the squealing feedback, Dr. Hakan slammed his fist down on the table, jaw clenched tightly. "Dammit all! The hell is wrong with that crazy beast?!? What did those fools do to him?!? They were supposed to subdue him and bring him in...how hard could that be?!?!"
Seething quietly to himself, he watched Icarus on the monitor, allowing him this time to pitch a fit. The gas was still pouring into the room at a steady rate and it was only a matter of time.
"Now, now," the voice was scratchy due to the damaged intercom speaker. "Please, you must calm down before you do further harm to yourself. We can't have you damaging yourself or your cell." There was a pause, as if waiting for a response that would never come. "Anyway, I didn't want to do this, but you've left me no choice."
A click and a brief buzzing noise was all the warning Icarus would get before a low voltage current surged through the walls, floor, and even ceiling of his cell. Designed to stun and not to harm, the jolt would hopefully aid in bringing the great beast's rampage to a halt.

Icarus thrashed, thumped, and generally made a nuisance of himself, only too happy to continue carrying out his ramapge with no further interruptions. Yet, with his focal point gone, the beast's rage was beginning to slip, consumed by his exhaustion from earlier. The gas continued to hiss, met with his bellow of slowly-weakening challenge as the substance continued to sap his strength away. But the good Doctor seemed only too happy to rekindle his spark of hatred, and the majority of his words were drowned with an ear-wrenching screech.
The buzz too, was lost upon the enraged Gyarados--but he couldn't ignore the electricity that zapped his body. A brief, heavy grunt of pain forced itself out of his body before Icarus collapsed on one side, an eerie, vibrating moan rippling its way up and down his lengthy body. The gas was making his head feel fuzzy, and, though the great serpent thrashed a few times in a vain attempt to collect himself and rise once more...he could no longer tell which way was up or down.

Belatedly realizing that he'd only been making things worse by trying to reason with the beast, Dr. Hakan left the intercom off and resumed watching the monitors silently. Brow furrowed in frustration, he continued muttering curses to himself as he leaned back in his chair, arms crossed. This subject was quickly becoming more of a pain than he was worth. Or was he?
Once experimentation began, we would see. We would most definitely see.
Eyes darting quickly over the security control panel, Dr. Hakan nodded to himself. Everything was set. At least those fools had done something right. Now, to play the waiting game. Icarus was down, but not yet out. Carl didn't have the time or supplies to waste any more on this experiment; he had other subjects to tend to. His hand hovered momentarily over a series of buttons...then rested once more on the control panel, drumming impatiently.
Dr. Hakan didn't like the waiting game.

The sea-serpent's jaws worked mindlessly, opening and closing exactly like a fish out of water. A great, shuddering sigh suddenly arose from the beast, and Icarus went limp, his jaws sagging open while his thick, blunt tongue lolled out, stopped only by the wicked barricade of his fangs. Those burning, flickering eyes remained ever open though, despite the fact that the Gyarados was beyond comprehension, and effectively 'down for the count'. For how long...well, that was another story.
