"I suppose sassy can be good." Dekko said with a smile, looking over at the white wolf. "But it's hard for me to even imagine what she went through. See for us, foals learn how to walk within the first half hour, and flight comes shortly after that. So we're pretty much always safe, and, if you don't mind me saying, fleetfooted. I've never heard of a pegasus foal being taken away or killed."
"Fairly sure. Kar's the only one who knows the slightest information, and that we need, at least, to start in our search. But with him not being able to talk... And plus, it happened only a few days after the... er, incident with the pups. And maybe the grief was also part of it."

"Definitely. Especially when... err... never mind." Whoops. He really needed to think before he spoke at times. Really, he did. "Well, no offense, but you are prey. Natural instincts say that you have to be able to walk or fly away soon, or you'll get eaten. Wolves are predators. They can take as long as they like to grow with much less fear of being eaten," Aiodhan mused thoughtfully.
"A telepath could maybe pick the information out of his head, though I don't know if you'd really want someone messing about in his mind," Amyla suggested, though it was a farfetched solution at best. She shifted Caleb's weight on her hip, wincing a bit when the boy gave her ear a tentative nibble. "What happened to them... your pups?" she asked, giving the she-wolf a compassionate look.

"Well, definitely." The happy-go-lucky nodded, not seeming to notice his hesitation. He never quite took anything to heart, and besides that, he heard what he wanted to hear, and always seemed to miss hearing what he didn't. "But since there are hunters around now, they're born with a natural fear for humans. Although why just humans, I don't quite understand..."
"A telepath..." SHe mused. "But yea, I mean if it didn't work and it had some sort of damage..." She shook her head slightly to herself. "Oh, well..." She looked up. "Two of them were stillborn and the other two were taken by hunters."

Aiodhan didn't even have to ponder on Dekko's last musing. "Humans are among the most destructive of creatures. Ironically, they are among the most constructive as well, but they balance themselves out. Some humans really enjoy others' destructions," he replied. It seemed odd for him to be speaking about half his heritage in such a negative manner, but the dragon in him had made him a bit wiser (not to mention more mature).
"It was a thought. Not a good one, but a thought..." Amyla sighed. She hated difficult problems like these. It made her feel awful when she couldn't help. "I'm very sorry... to hear about your pups," she said softly.
Caleb cooed at the female wolf and extended a chubby hand in her direction. "Uhhheeee?"

"Surprised to hear you saying that." Dekko said with a smile. "You're still at least half a human, aren't you?"
"Well, what's gone's gone, I guess." Sheva said with a slight smile. She hardly ever dwelled on the past, and to her, the pups were a bygone thing in her life that was not enough to bring her down.

"Yes. At least I think so. It's close to a half anyway," Aiodhan said, meaningfully eyeing one of his massive wings. "It's the truth, though, about humans. I have had plenty of time to think about the nature of humanity."
"True. It does make you consider things for the future, though," Amyla added with a slight shrug. "After losing so many of my own making to miscarraiges, I was almost afraid to try for Caleb. It was worth it, though, "she said, using her free hand to tickle the boy's nose.

"Yea? How so?" Dekko asked curiously. He had to admit, he'd never quite met anyone half human who had ever really given much thought about the nature of humanity.
"I suppose you're right." Sheva said. "In the end, no matter what happens, it'll still teach you something. And it'll still all be worth it."

"Ahhh.... about seven years of ... I guess you could call it self-imposed isolation. You get a lot of thinking time," Aiodhan said with a shrug. He did have plenty of time to ponder on it, and he came to some very frightening conclusions.
"Definitely worth it," Amyla said, watching Caleb gnaw on his teething ring. The little bugger had nearly chewed through another one of those. They needed to find him something new to chew on.

"Self-imposed, eh?" Dekko smiled. "Well, I've yet to meet any more of my kin." He said with a shrug. "But at least being a lone Peg doesn't give me too much thinkin' time, especially not with Sheva around."
Sheva grinned, watching Caleb chewing on his teething ring. "I don't know about humans, but wolves in my pack, we used to live not too far from an abandoned salt quarry. There's still tons of salt in there, and the wolves used to bring back huge chunks of salt licks for the pups. It's great for the teething and all, and it's not as salty as the refined salt they sell." She said, thinking back to her puphood days, when she and her fellow pups had all fought to clamber atop the hard salt block, gnawing at it to gradually wear it down.

"Lucky you. Thinking is depressing and tends to give me a serious headache." Aiodhan sighed and then looked thoughtful for a moment. "You've never met another pegasus?"
Amyla chuckled softly and ruffled Caleb's already-tousled hair. "Natural salt licks? That might be an idea. Thank you! I'll have to try it," she said, watching the boy gnaw away.

Dekko shrugged. "Well, you know us, far and few in between. Except for my mother, I've never seen another Pegasus. Not that I've taken much time to look, but still."
"Yea, but I don't know where you'd find unsalty salt nowadays." Sheva said with a laugh.

"Huh. That's odd. We've got some sort of feathery winged thing that likes to roam the property. She and her partners in mischief take refuge in our stable when the weather gets bad," Aiodhan mused, more rambling than anything else.
"That's true. In our society, everything has to be processed and as full of flavor as possible," Amyla sighed, making a face. "It would probably be better for him than these things, though. He just gnaws right through every kind of teething ring we find."

"Huh... Is she white?" He asked. Not that it really mattered. From what he knew, a Pegasus could be an shade of the color spectrum, as long as it was a solid color. Like him. He was exceptionally proud of his black muzzle, of course. Not many had a different colored muzzle like his.
Sheva smiled. "He doesn't chew furniture?" She asked. "Or wires."

"Uhhh, no. She's like... beige and pink. She might not be an actual pegasus, but she looks like you, though perhaps a bit more feminine. Very sweet, but quite forgetful. Took a blow to the head awhile back," Aiodhan mused, grinning a bit. Yes, Miette was an interesting creature.
Amyla shook her head. "No, he really doesn't. Then again, we've always provided him with things to chew on, and with the amount of people and creatures in our house, I don't think he is ever bored enough to chew on either of them."

"Oh. Well, some Pegasi are known to be a bit spacey." Dekko said with a grin. "But if she took a blow to the head, then I'm gonna go with ouch for now." He said, drfiting off enough to still hear everything that was going on, but was really imagining what it would be like to be a forgetful creature.
"Well, at least that's good." Sheva said, grinning at what Amyla had said. Big families sure were fun.
