Glancing back at Cassie as she displayed her anger, Batou frowned a bit, clearly displeased with his friend. Chill, will you? The boy mouthed this to the girl, his head turned away from Andou so that his sensei wouldn't see what was being said. As his grandfather came down the stairs and confronted the elder ninja, though, the younger man couldn't help but sigh. "Er, Granny? Andou's here due to you. They need you at the hospital. Apparently someone's been poisoned." Indeed, Batou's broad grin had been wiped from his face when his teacher had explained the situation. Slipping a hand into a pocket, the chuunin directed his gaze back to Andou. "Want me to come along?"

At first, the Fubuki boy had no idea what was going on but eventually, he had apparently caught on fairly quickly that this old woman was very important for saving Hatsuyuki’s life. “Please!” He begged, not quite able to hide the note of urgency in his voice, with his head bowed low in Granny Despada’s direction. His usually beautiful blue-gray hazel eyes appeared more watery than usual - was Kira trying his best to stop from crying? But one thing was certain, the child couldn't at all hide his worry, or panic for that matter.

[Oh Makuta! Sorry if I didn't make it clear o.O Cassie, Batou and Andou are ex teammates. They are like, the same age and level and stuff. Yup.. Cassie left when they were sixteen or so and she's just returned. Andou became chuunin at that year, and Batou became chuunin at 17/18. Now Batou works as the receptionist for Mistress xD But he uh... 'has the flu'.
...CRAP! HATSUYUKI ISN'T KIRA'S SISTER! -shot- D: SORREH. Oh well... make it an in-RP mistake <_<;]
You could feel the anger grow in the corner where Cassie was sitting, looking at all the action, but even she soon realised that the situation was urgent. After a great mental wrestle she finally managed to put her anger aside. The feeling was like trying to pack your entire room into a small bag and someone, eventually getting everything in, after lots of struggling and bag stretching. The finished bag was puffed up and straining to hold all the items, but still securely closed. Besides, the boy was kinda cute, and he looked really serious. He must really care for his sister. She'd have to put her dispute with Andou aside for him... for now.
Meanwhile, Sensei was staying silent... The granny didn't really like him and he didn't want to provoke things further. Of course, this was all in Sensei's mind. Not that many people as he thought hated him, but they soon would if he kept this act up, unintentional though it was. Cassie was already starting to show it and although Despada had been patient for a hell of a long time who knew when she would crack.
Despada narrowed her eyes, a little miffed at Andou ignoring her. But that was all wiped to dust when she heard the word 'poisoned' and when Kira started his passionate plea. Despada didn't like kids. Never had, never would. It was a wonder how she had tolerated Batou long enough for him to grow into adulthood. But as she gave the kid a second glance she noted his seeming devotion to the girl. The emotion brimming in his voice and gaze and his entire body was quite... well, effective. It won Despada over. Sending her gaze heavenwards and back down again, the old lady conceded, "All right." Her million shawls rustled as she made her way to the kid, giving Andou a scornful glance.
"Lead the way."

"Thank you, Despada-sama!" And with his words, the boy bowed his head low, right hand pledged over his heart - a sign of deep respect. Normally, Kira would've addressed the old woman by 'obaa-san'...but for Despada, he instead used how he would've addressed a main family member or an elder of his clan...or the Kage or Sannins of this village for outsiders... And for the current Fubukis, it meant their honorific, for outside the clan, however grudgingly usually reserved for Mistress.

Letting out a gentle sigh of relief as he heard Despada agree to go, Batou tilted his head around, glancing briefly around back at Cassie to see how she was doing before moving closer to the door. Pausing, the chuunin glanced over at Andou, chewing on his lower lip slightly. "Andou. Do you want me to come along, or do you think you can escort Obaa-san there on your own?" The cooler of the two grinned slightly at the mild tease on his former mentor. 'Wonder what kind of poison it was? What was the motivation?

"Come on, boy, get cracking!" Despada admonished him. "It's your sister's life on the line, isn't it? You should be hurrying to the raft!" She pushed open the door and started to move. "Hmph, kids these days..." she could be heard muttering as she left. "I hope the hospital is still as well-equipped as it was before..." Despada moved surprisingly fast for an old, crooked woman. She could easily beat Kira in a race, although whether she could go even faster remained to be seen... she wasn't the type of woman to show off her skills.
Sensei gave Batou a long, neutral glance, before replying, "You can do what you want." Of course, he was like this all the time so hopefully Batou would not be offended or anything. "If you're sick, you should rest..." His gaze flickered over to Cassie before moving back to Batou. "...and maybe keep her company. But it's your call." He quirked a brief smile at his best friend. "I haven't seen your grandmother in action in a long time."

"Hai!" Kira gave a quick bow to Cassie and Batou before rushing off after Granny Despada and Sensei. Hatsuyuki...please...be ok... As the feelings of hope grew stronger, a flash of silver seemed to momentarily gleam in Kira's eyes. That boy...no, classmate...that said he would take Hatsuyuki to the hospital in record time... Kira would have to trust him. No matter how much he disliked entrusting Hatsuyuki's fate to a boy he did not know... Shinratsu was another story.

Chuckling softly at Andou's statements, Batou went back over to Cassie, sitting down lightly beside her. Bumping his arm against hers, the fellow chuunin gave her a small smile. "Hey, everything okay? You didn't exactly seem pleased about Andou arriving." Leaning back slightly, the young man tilted his head, his probing eyes watching the girl.

Despada reached the pier quickly, with Kira(?) right behind her. Sensei had followed and caught up quickly after nodding a goodbye to Batou for now. The ferryman was there waiting, and Despada stepped on without so much as a greeting or thank you. Sensei was next and he nodded to the ferryman.

Meanwhile, Cassie unknowingly let out a breath that she had been holding in ever since Batou had shut her up. Her cheeks flushed and she took a couple of deep breaths, her eyes letting loose a torrent of anger. Then she realised that no one was around so she might as well.
"Pleased?" she echoed, before rapidly gaining tempo. Hurricane Cassie had arrived, strap yourselves in tight!! "Pleased?! PLEASED?!?! He snubbed me, Batou!" she yelled, slapping a hand on the table for emphasis. The normally dorky Cassie would have immediately winced and shouted something like "OW!" but Cassie was too worked up now to care. "I haven't seen him in six years, and you too, and he pretends not to know me!! At least you welcomed me and we chatted! But him?!" Cassie folded her arms tightly and glared around at all the herb drawers [picture: http://www.michaelturton.com/Taiwan/Lukang122.JPG] as if they had committed some grave injustice. Well, at least she wasn't glaring at Batou...
"What the hell happened to him, Batou?!" she continued her tirade. "He was weird before, I know, but he's a completely different person now!"
[Ok the thing is, I haven't figured this out yet... but somehow, Andou feels guilty FOR SOME REASON about Cassie disappearing. Or maybe he liked her and because he's so messed up he was extremely crushed when she left Kirigakure at 16 years old and tried to lock her out of his mind, or something... Lol probably the second one. Haha Sensei would give any psychologist a field day.]

The raven-haired Fubuki boy was the last to board. Kira was the only one who stopped to talk to the ferryman but...that did not matter. A quick bow in greeting before in a urgent voice he pressed the mid-aged man: "Please sir, to the main island!" The ferryman nodded, indicating he knew - Sensei had said so previously, on their trip to the volcanic island. And so, the trio began on the journey back to the main island - Granny Despada and Sensei the epitomy of calmness with Kira praying they will make it in time.

Batou had winced and leaned back slightly as the girl had ranted, staying respectfully quiet. As she finished up, the chuunin leaned in and placed his shoulder against her's again, giving the same, cool and slightly caring smile he had before. "He might've just been in a rush, Cass. I mean, after all, there's someone who's currently suffering from poison. If I had thought I was needed a bit more, I probably would've left, too."

"Oh, no," Cassie said pettily although she didn't resist against his touch. "That was before this whole mess. I'm teaching in the academy right?" Well actually not many people knew since Cassie had sort of signed herself up and hopefully the authorities would find out but anyway... "Yeah, so he knows I'm there, since he's probably received some file with my name on it. And even if he thought it was someone else I met him in after-school training and went to say hi. That's when he snubbed me," she said furiously. But then she realised that she might be pushing Batou a bit too much right now and ranting about herself when she came to ask about him! She gave a little groan, and sat back down onto the chair.
"Ugh... it's just not a good start to my being back home. Sorry...." she massaged her temples with eyes closed for a moment, before asking, "So, Batou, what about you? I haven't given you a chance to say anything much yet! What's been happening?"

My story for him was that he was sick with the flu.. and a few days before he had breakfast with Star the crazy jounin... and the day before that he was almost killed by her... well he's Mistress' receptionist now. Maybe he can enlighten Cassie on the situation now!]

[Cassie is somewhere (with night on holiday XD) and Batou + Despada are at home.]
Business had been slow. Fewer and fewer people wanted home-brewed potions now with the advent of science and yada yada yada. Despada had remained strictly traditional, not even having a telephone in the house. Well she had thought she didn't until the call last night from Andou that had shocked the hell out of her when she'd suddenly heard a loud blaring noise from Batou's room. He had gotten one installed when she was away 'just in case'. She had given Batou a huge grilling about it when she'd gotten home but had conceded that it was of some use.
"Batou, you're not sick," Despada said again in that hoarse, indignant voice of hers. "Look atcha! You're all spry and gleaming with health! And since you're not making yourself useful to Mistress, make yourself useful to me! Go out and get some people to enter my shop!" Of course, for Despada any methods were good methods as long as they worked. She was not above physical coercing and threat of bodily harm, but of course she had people that would do that for her. One such person being Batou.
"Gramma, that's not ethically right," Batou said patiently. Well, he usually started out patiently but always lost in the end after gradually losing his cool. Despada was a great arguer although her conversational skills were lacking. Eventually like all the other times, she ended up winning and Batou reluctantly went out with muscles flexed...
...and, not before the minute was up, came back in again, looking a lot more troubled and even frantic.
"Gramma, you should see this," he said solemnly, pulling her out without paying any attention to her protests. Quickly they ran to the highest zenith of the island, right next to the volcano's mouth, and Batou pointed to the main island. A bunch of other gypsies were also there, conversing excitedly whilst being illuminated by the reddish glow from the bubbling lava.
"That's the Earth Master, no doubt about it," one said callously. "I got a contact in Suna, says there was a huge fight a week or two ago. Our own Kage-sama was involved," this was said with huge sarcasm and no wonder since the gypsies and Mistress held no love for each other. "I don't know who to root for," the gypsy finished with an ironic smile. "I wouldn't mind seeing that white b***h go but if the Earth Master turns on us..."
Batou looked at Despada who looked back, nonplussed for the first time in a long while. Then they looked again at the fight which was unfolding on the main island.
