I agree the border should be a little more patrolled, but I was watching TV and they said the immigrants come in from the dirty polluted river. It should probably be dammed up like the Santa Ana. Also, there is a law that says that if the illegal immigrant has a child, that the child should be raised in the states. However, if that law was taken away, then maybe the illegal immigration wouldn't be so bad. And it totally sucks that I can't get a job because I don't speak Spanish.

I didnt actually cross in a ship. I was born here. My great grandparents on the other hand, came in the ships. And they got to check in at Liberty Station. What do you wanna bet they had green cards?
Mexico hasnt owned California in around 200 years. Why start now? And you better watch out if you are going to call me a stupid b***h. The least you could do is learn to spell.

I personally think this is as much a part of California's heritage as the settlers themselves. Without immigrants, illegal or otherwise, California wouldn't be the diverse and culturally rich state it is today.

Legal or otherwise, immigration is the backbone of this country, and that is something no one can deny. Yes, people do sneak over the border to get into here, but consider why there doing it. They see that America has all this opportunity available to them. A chance to start life over and live better than they are now, with better food, better housing, and better overall quality of life. We have it, they want it, and they'll do whatever it take to get it.

And its because of that that the caucasians of the world are doing business and trading stocks instead of picking stalks of corn or cotton. And honestly, if they had the chance to replace all those field workers, would they want to? Would they want to work those back breaking conditions in the blazing sun for the little pay they get? The answer, obviously, is no, because thats not what they're used to. They're used to getting things with their brain power and not with their muscles. Immigrants just want to survive and eke out a living, so the jobs they acquire reflect that attitude.

If you really want to stop them from running over to America, you have to make them not want to leave their home. If anyones ever seen a tape of a typical Mexican street, you know that their typical living conditions are no better than what you see in places like East LA or Compton. Hell, even those places look more appealing than the squallor and deplorable conditions of a Mexican city. And thusly, they will risk life and limb and being killed to make it to America. Because, as I'm sure anyone can tell you, the promise of a better life and a better future would make anyone risk the present.

You're calling the thread starter a racist b***h, but your actually the racist one here. She is talking about a legitimant political topic. Illegal immagration is a huge problem. But you, you're running around whineing about how white boys don't pick tomatoes. That's racism. You're saying that, just because someone's white, they're too good to do farm work. Sure. Okay. Several people I know do the grunt work of the Agriculture industry.

I agree with Koiyuki to some extent. If we want to stop illegal immagrants, then we need to improve where they'e coming from. Because I don't blame them for trying to get out of there. It's hell. It'd ultimately be cheaper to help "fix" Mexico then it is to pay for a welfare and health care system that is trying to support not only American citizens, but all the illegal immagrants as well.

I also think that the government should work on speeding up the whole immagration process. I've talked to people whos families and friends have been waiting years to become legal.

I don't really want them to be here, but instead of fighting them, our government should work with them.

This about how Governor Schwarzenagger had proposed we "close" the borders which I think is a great idea because

1. The school systems have to pay for them even though they don't pay taxes
2. They don't pay taxes...
3. They keep America from giving OTHERS the chance to get jobs which is why we have a job DECLINE.

I also know that California is VERY dependent on Illegal Immigrant Labor which keeps it cheap. I would appreciate your opnions on this topic.

One big issue I have with the US government pitching a fit over illegal immigration from Mexico, Central America and South America is the fact that the US has been known to stage coups in some of those countries, which install governments that serve US interests, not the people's and cause the whole nation, especially the poor, to suffer. So because they're country isn't strong, they go where they can work.

Is illegal immigration a problem? Yes, but it isn't just a problem for the US government. Illegal immigrants come over illegally because they have no legal entry options most of the time. Some don't necessarily want to come to the US, but that's where the jobs are. Some come, work for awhile and return to their home nation, others settle.

Should immigrants learn the language and assimilate into US culture? Sure, but has it ever occurred to any born English speakers what a hard language we have? Also, I don't believe learning Spanish is necessarily a bad thing.

A lot of people complain about having to educate the children of illegal immigrants. If our school were in better shape to begin with there would be less room to complain, granted having second language learners in the classroom can sometimes hinder a class but what will happen to those kids who don't attend school? School regulates the behavior of children and acts as a means to educate and assimilate the children of immigrants into US culture and leads to them helping their parents assimilate.

I think the process to help illegals who want to become Americans should be stepped up for those who are honest people and sojourning workers should be legitimately paid and have their income legitimately taxed. I also think that the US needs to be humane in their treatment of these people. I'm not saying illegals should be given complete rights and priveldges of US citizens, but they do diserve to be treated with dignity.
