*pats antonio* It's ok. I know it can be very frustrating. But you can't force idiots to move lol. And yes I know your plight I work with Spinal cord veterans. They can be a handful lol.

Right I've got the shrits so here's my rant. I work as a teachers aide in the local high school here. I'm with the special ed faculty because the grl I'm funded to work with is there also.... [cut].... Then I call him (again) the next day to find out that he's not sure if it's right for her because he doesn't think she can use it. The (expletive)doesn't even know what his daughter is capable of because he hasn't taken the time to (double expletive) learn to communicate to her.

My hubby is a high school English teacher, so I empathise madly with you, there. I had no idea there could be so much stupid from parents!! Some cases of neglect he's seen are insane. So far topping the list: Him dealing with a grandmother that a pregnant thirteen year old was living with. When this student went into labor, they called her grandmother to inform her that they were going to call an ambulence. The woman said absolutely not, and cited how expensive that would be as the reason.... said she'd be right there to pick the girl up. So my husband and some other faculty wait with her and try to be helpful. The grandmother lives maybe two blocks from the school, but all sorts of time goes by. The student is actually progressing through labor very quickly and starts going into hard labor, transition stage. The teachers are getting worried about the grandmother by this time, so they call again to see if she's okay. The woman is still at the house just sitting around. They ask wtf, basically, and the woman answers that she'll be there when her tv show is over. She was letting her granddaughter go through the really scary and painful experience of labor in a high school principal's office because she didn't want to miss a minute of Opra or something! And this not from a parent, but a grandparent! Aren't they supposed to be even more about the spoiling and paying attention to? I suspect the girl got pregnant mostly because no one bothered to take the time to make sure she was living her life safely. Three cheers for euthanasia!

Poor kid. Did she make it to the hospital?
And yes not all parents including Grands are the same. *sigh*

Gawd, those are some serious anger-inducing stories (ie: the stupid father who doesn't pay attention to his daughter's needs and the 13 year old child in labor!)!!

That father sounds like a real self-centered jerk. Who is HE to determine whther his daughter could use that computer or not. I would think as an aductional professional, that you would be able to make that call. That guy is such a jerk for not even listening.

And that Grandma!! WTF??? Wouldn't their insurance/medicaid cover a freakin' ambulance anyway??!! And if not, who cares? She's 13 years old and in friggin' labor for gawd's sake! And the bit abou tnot wanting to miss her TV show is simply infuriating! How could someone (who has apparently been through labor herself) do that to someone else.... especially their own grandchild! My Grandma was actually on *my* case for *me* taking too long to get ready to go to the hospital when I was in labor with my first child... but my labor wasn't fast nor horrendous in the beginning like that poor girl's apparently was.

Stuuuuuuuuuupid people....

She did make it to the hospital, in the end. Grandma finally got her rear over there (just before an ambulence was called regardless of her wishes).

Also, since I made the title of this thread pretty vague, then I decree that we can use this thread to post about things that stupid people do or say that piss us off stressed . So feel free to use this as an all purpose, stupid people-rant thread!

*Will update the first post to reflect this decree*

Maybe this should be made a sticky so the stupidity ranting thread doesn't get lost.

Illiana! I'm a member of The Militant Breastfeeding Cult too lol.
I have seen boobs when mother's BF, but it was like for a second.
Not something I stare at lol.
I mean I used those special bras, which I know some women can't, that only show your n****e but like I flashed it around. No way! I always tucked my kid under my shirt then fed her lol, but some women can have a hard time with this.

I've somehow mastered the art of hiding my boobs when feeding my little one, all thanks to the wonderful sling my friend got me. Just put the little one in the sling, pull up the sides, blanket over the shoulder and you can't see a thing. I tested this idea on Izzy and he couldn't see skin, and he was TRYING!

Glitter - You're right, it is subjective. But most of the people I know who were breastfed as babies are in perfect or near perfect health, while others like my mother and I who were bottle fed suck when it comes to health. My mom couldn't breastfeed me, there was just NO milk coming in. And she has inverted nipples, this was before there were those shields out to fix that problem. I base my health judgement on personal experience I guess, but you're right, it's circumstance.

Antonio, Vita - Everyone else said what I wanted to. You're dealing with some pretty flopped up people there. I'm thinking, labotomy..

I'm with Glitter, the formula of today is really awesome. Hell, I got dirty looks for feeding my kid a bottle in public, sheez! My son was sooo healthy and I didn't BF at all. On the other hand, this woman ate peanut butter a LOT for the protein while she breastfed, and her son has severe peanut allergies.

That poor girl, that reminds me a LOT of something that I heard about that made my blood boil. This 13 year old girl was raped by her uncle and the parents were making her have it, wtf? I'm not one to think everyone should get an abortion or whatever, but it just seems so incredibly messed up to make a young girl go through that when it could kill her. On top of it, her parents refused to let her have any pain medication, some crap about original sin. Why punish her???
PostPosted: Thu Sep 16, 2004 12:22 pm

I'm not touching that one. I'll just be over here wishing bad things upon parents like that. Ok, I won't. It's bad karma, but still............THAT'S BEYOND ((&#^@@%%!&&#&**$(*(^&#$&^@^#*&^$*#$&(&@

Ok, I'm done now.

I also agree with Glitter on the whole Formula thing. My child has had two colds since she was born and that's in a year, and she was formula fed since three weeks, when I practically went insane with the crying and the pain and the not being able to study, read, write papers, or go to class. Every time she got up at night I just started crying inconsolably I had the worst time breastfeeding and I was COMPLETELY unresponsive to pumps I spent over 200 dollars on pumping equipment. After I started formula feeding I was happy and not stressed and could actually be both a mom and college student (I went back to school 2 weeks after delivering my child and having a 4th degree tear).

The hard time I had with breastfeeding though makes me so irritated with people who just think "Oh just go sit on a toilet in a bathroom with no arm support and pop the baby right on there like it's easy and getting the right latch is something that just happens." It doesn't just happen. It's actually pretty hard to learn, some women can only hold babies certain ways to get good latches, need arm support whatever. It's these people that make me feel the worst STILL when they think that oh I could have just popped the pump on there and made bottles upon bottles of BM for my baby, yeah the only way I could get any pump to work was to nurse at the same time, like that's affective.

And Formula these days is just fine in my opinion. For starters, your child already shares all the immunities you all ready have because they shared blood with you. BF can only give them any new immunities you build while BFing. Second, Formula used to be Karo Syrup and Milk, now it's more refined and strictly FDA controlled. Like I said Lissa is great, and hell she only ate it for 9 months of her life, then it was a bottle before bed and then none at all. I think my GREATEST concern for her health involving food will be to get her daddy to stop feeding her pork rinds and coke. xd

I tried breastfeeding as well. Not only did it hurt like hell he had a habit of grabbing my chest and digging his claws in. I also couldn't seem to produce enough no matter what. I've been considering attempting again with my next child, but just thinking about it makes my n****e hurt.

Personally the militant breastfeeders scare me. They're usually the ones at the food court here on base that don't do it right and put on a titty show and wonder why the airmen are staring at them stare They're very in your face about it and became rather angry when my son said they needed to put their shirts back on redface I also don't think breast is best like they say. I know it is if mom produces enough and takes care of herself, but so many women don't care about what they're eating and pass on that crap to the baby through their milk. I know personally of cases where breast was most assuredly not best for the baby.

I wouldn't have a problem so much with women breastfeeding if they were a bit more tactful about it. Fact is it makes people uncomfortable and while yes ya need to feed the baby, you can do it without putting on a show for everyone. I've seen the nonshow feedings happen so I know it can be done and yet there are women here that insist the best way to get breastfeeding out there and accepted is to force people to look at them and it's simply not going to work is it. It just puts people off on the idea all the more.

I was breastfed and I have a really weak immune system. I get everything that goes around. I have had the chicken pox three times, bronchitis and pneumonia more times than I can count, strep, hepititis (the one that goes away) and all sorts of stuff.

My son is formula fed because I have/had no milk at all. It is probably because I was severely malnourished throughout my pregnancy. If I should ever get married and have another child, he/she will be bottle fed too.

What the hell....
I *will* say that there were some people who were making good comments, though. Not everyone was brain-numbingly stupid. I made my comment at the top of page 19.

i had already posted at a thread about this like back in March so I just stayed away from this one ^^; damn repeat threads.

but I think that younger mothers like younger then 24 have a harder time BFing then say older moms (like late 20's - late 30's range) mostly because I think that younger moms deal with more stress in their daily lives compared to older women. Most younger women have not finished schhool before they are pregnant and are not "established in life" whilst more older women are established with a career and sometimes a husband. They pretty much have it a bit easier with the stress then a younger mom who dosen't have a career, has/has not a husband with a minimal paying job and possibly gettin help from some kind of governmental aid. ( i hope that came out the right away ^^ wink So I thnik younger bodies do not produce the milk or do not produce enough because of this enormous amount of stress they are faced with. btw, i did BF until Arielle was four months old. I stopped cause my body stopped. IGuess it got tired of having no sleep and me not eating enough. sad but i was dissapointed that it stopped but what can you do? *shrug*
