I liked Micheal Crawford and Gerard Butler

*holds up big picture of Michael crawford* thats my fav. Phantom actor! second fav. is Gerry (not because he's hot, but because he has wonderful acting skills and is a good person) then third goes to Lon Chaney, because if it weren't for him Phantom would have never gotten this far, barely anyone except people who really, really.really love books and want to read everything would even know the story, that would be horible.

But my fav. version isn't a movie, I love the original, I love Leroux!Erik. *points down at siggy*

yummytenor
it's not up there, but i'm still going to say Antonio Banderas, who would've been the movie phantom. he would've been the best. spent 3 years training for it, too. ah, such a shame! DAMN YOU, GERALD BUTLER, DAMN YOU!!! ANTONIO IS SO SEXIER THAN YOU, AS WELL AS OLD ENOUGH! heart

since he was in evita i think it would have been weird for him to be leading in two of sir andrew lloyd webber's movies...maybe it's just me, but it would have been a little unfair. The first time i heard him sing phantom songs I wasn't impressed....but then I heard it again a few weeks ago and it was sara b. who made it seem like that. Their voices did not mesh at all...I hate the bubble thing she does with her voice. She does it in the point of no return on the cd and since MC doesn't do it they don't blend together like a duet should....I think this got a little off topic sweatdrop sorry

For me it is a tie between Michael Crawford and Gerard Bulter. I do love Michael Crawford's voice VERY MUCH, but my personal opinion doesn't like his use of vibrato. I love vibrato, but too much ruins the music and Crawford did that at certain times, not much though. What I love about Bulter though, is that he has more of a contemporary sound to his voice rather than Raoul's classic. The contrast between the two voices makes the character casting even more wonderful. Plus, Gerard is a wonderful singer and excellent actor. He sends shivers down my back in Phantom of the Opera and Music of the Night.OOOOOO!

Why, may I ask, do you like those two above the rest, mademoiselle? Do you like them for any particular reason or do they just appeal to you?

I have opinions on some, none on others.

1: Lon Chaney Phantom
I've been dying to see this one but I haven't yet, I like him just because he's Lon Chaney though.

2: Claude Rains Phantom
Haven't seen it yet either.

3: Robert Englund Phantom
This is definitely a darker, more true to the novel, representation of Erik. He was really fun to watch, although a bit too much of a foil to the ALW romantic Erik.

4: William Finley Phantom (Phantom of the Paradise)
I loved him. I have to say that Winslow was one of my favourite phantoms out of these, tied with Englund.

5: Herbert Lom Phantom
Not seen this one either.

6: Michael Crawford Phantom (Musical Version)
Don't like him, don't hate him. His voice is okay, although I've obviously never seen him in anything more than archival footage. Kinda mediocre if you ask me.

7: Gerard Butler (2005 Movie)
Stubby hands, gravelly voice. Great for angry!Erik, crap for lovey-dovey Erik. Mediocre; points for sexiness, loss of points for untalentedness.

I also loved Hugh Panaro onstage, his voice kicks GB and MC a**.

My absolute favourite based on voice talent would be the guy from my Westend Singers tribute album who sings Music of the Night, he has the sexiest voice and its the best version I've ever heard.

PS: If you want the song PM me for my MSN address, or I can email it to you.

Claude Rains rocks, but I'm going to have to go with Gerard Butler. I just love his voice! I think it's just perfect for The Phantom. I can't get enough of the 2004 movie for that reason. He's pretty good as the phantom, plus he's great at that whole cape swishing thing. xd

EDIT: Wow. No one else has even mentioned Claude Rains...

I like Crawford but his lips are hiteous.
I know when you do anytyihng on stage, your mkeup must be exagerated for people at the back to see your facial expressions, but still..
His lips are gross.
But I like him best overall

I do really like Butler, but I don't think he would have been the best person for a stage version

Oh, I love them all but my favorites would be Michael Crawford ((even though I've never seen him perform I've got his CDs.... only seen John Cudia as the Phantom twice)) and Gerard Butler. But out of them all I like the broadway version better
