Suikoden Demon Century is an anime that has nothing to do with the game. It is however loosely based off of the same legend, it is set in the future and very different from our beloved game.
I pronounce Suikoden as Sue-koh-den. However, I know that it should be pronounced swee-koh-den. The first kanji is 水, meaning water. The hiragana for that is すい which in roomaji is sui. Howver, when spoken it kind of gets combined to swee

I was told it was pronouced Sue-koh-den but it never felt right leaving that "I" out of it and using it as a silent "I" so I prounouce it as Sui-koh-den. Saying it with it starting with Sue made me think of my neighbor named Sue so I stopped for that reason too. sweatdrop

X-DrAgOnKnIgHt_Futch Once you learn how to read the romanji, it's fairly simple. Oo; I mean, "sui" (even though it's one character), with the.. futakana or something >_<... the hiragana at the side which tells you how to pronounce sometimes, it'll show as "su" and "i". す + い = 水 (su) (i) And the 'i' sounds like EE. >_>... ANYWAYS, I don't know why I went through all that. Most should figure it out without me being an idiot posting about it. Um, it's Furigana that is the little text by the kanji saying how it's pronounced. ^_^

Hmmm, well, many different thoughts on it. And I guess it depends on the country you're in. Speaking from the japanese pronunciation, it would be in english the SOO EE KO DAY N. Going from japanese pheonetics. In america and many other english speaking areas, I'm sure that when trying to pronounce it "Swee-ko-den" is how it comes out. But as with many things, I guess this is another case of ""TOE-MAY-TOE vs TOE-MAH-TOE." Each person is going to say it their own way, and I've met many people who don't care how it's pronounced, so they'll continue to murder the name. But as for how I pronounce it, I stick with good ol' nihon-go pronunciation. ^_^

That's where the slurring into swee comes from too I betcha. But Quote: this is another case of ""TOE-MAY-TOE vs TOE-MAH-TOE." You're right. XP Anyways, I'm sticking with how I my friend says it ( sweatdrop because that's where I get it) so okay. Thank you also for clearing up the "Furigana" business. crying I still hadn't figured it out until you told me. (Even though I could've looked it up.)
