LoL. There's a Latin version now? eek *Must have it* I'm learning Latin . . . That would be a great help. It's always good to have a translated book to help you learn a language. Especially one you've read many times in English. 3nodding

I already have the British versions of the books. Did you know, there are some infinitesimal differences? Mostly grammatical. But for example, in the beginning of the fourth book, when Voldemnorts talking about "one more death" and such, the British version says "one more curse", or something like that. *glares in the general direction of the storage unit* But the thing is, the British version is less blunt. Less Frank. Less gruesome? Sort of . . . sweatdrop

@CA: Yeah, I figured as much when I couldn't find a trailer just now. Then I realized that I've signed up for a Harry Potter newsletter from the Warner Bros movie website. So I think It'll tell me when the trailer is out . . . wink

People that think Harry Potter is evil take things WAY to literally for their own good. A lot of them tend to not have a lot of imagination either... There's no harm in entertainment, as long as you don't start to think about trying it yourself or something, because a lot of entertainment is just meant to be entertainment; not doctrine. wink

Harry Potter is just good fiction. Anybody who says it's actually wiccan or anything needs to actually do five minutes of research. It's no more satanic than Cinderella's faerie godmother, or Merlin from Sword in the Stone. rolleyes

Edit: Wicca isn't satanic either, but it still freaks me out.. sweatdrop

Basically what I said, lol.

Lol, sorry. I go through Gaia on autopilot. sweatdrop

Don't worry about it. I was just saying, lol. wink

Well.....I LOVE heart heart the HP series to death!!!! biggrin I can't wait for the 6th book to come out and stuff but i can see why some people would want to not have kids read it, cuz some people get obsessed and so addicted that they lose all sense of everything else and thus the loss of the one thing Heavenly Father and Jesus can't take from us, but that could happen with just about anything. So, basically the people that are afraid of that might not have as good of control ofver their kids as they want, but hey, that's just my speculation. whatever to whoever doesn't like my comments.

Harry Potter is alright...But I kind of like J.K. Rowling's writing style... But there is some profanity in the books/movies.

Hahahaha, I love this topic.
Honestly, if a book that is well written and is having kids LINE UP to READ(I know alot of kids who would never read when I was little), then LET THEM HAVE CAKE...er...LET THEM READ!

Well, we Americans must wait until mid-July in order to read Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. stare

Guess how long those Europeans have to wait? The same amount of time. blaugh

Although, it's possible that their bookstores will open earlier than ours will, considering the time difference. wink

You know when I was a small child I had trouble figuring out the monsters in the movies weren't real, but my mother sat me down and explained that movies and books and tv shows are just pretend. They aren't real. Someone made then up for fun.
And I taught the kid I nannied (who had the same fears) that the scary monsters are called "Fiction". Fiction means just pretend, for fun, not real, a made up story.

I love Harry Potter and JK Rowling. Sure the setting and props are not accepted by the church but I love to read and reading is great. JK Rowling is an extraordinary writer and some of my writing reflect hers but she really is an inspiration to me. I love the stories and such but there are underlying factors and yes it is not good to practice magic but my mom told me that as long as I don't try to behave like them and do magic like them then I may read and watch the movies. However, witchcraft is prevalent and is a bad practice and against the church, but I look at Harry Potter this way: He's struggling with who he is and even has a great foe but don't we all, it's just more of a visual and life-like foe. I don't think or believe in witchcraft therefore it has no impact on my state of being I think as long as you separate your thought from what it is showing and just have good fun with it because it is made up and untrue, then you won't be prone to believe it and practice it, it is a choice and yours to make but of course my mom hated it at first then gradually got more info and decided that my sister and I could read and watch the movies. I mean vampires and werewolves aren't real and people watch and read that stuff all the time......(ie. me) lol anywho, yea that is all. smile

@Naphtalia: I thought I put those fears to rest. The Church does not consider Harry Potter unacceptable. It is even on the recommended reading/movie list. 3nodding

They even sell it at Deseret Book!

I love Harry Potter, all of my friends at church are allowed to read it! The only people I know of who aren't allowed to read it(here) are the Assemblians of God.
