"Impromptu Camping Adventure"

Dark Fire Angel
[image snip]

Life had always been hard to understand; the simple things that others seemed to catch onto without difficulty were the things that Edward found himself glowering at. The more he scowled at such things, the more they mocked him though, however, he was too proud to back down and instead of changing his tactics, he'd just scowl harder and harder at them.

To no avail however; things just didn't work like that. At least not the really simple things of life anyhow.

Despite how frustrating this notion was, Edward had never stopped trying; it truthfully escaped him how it was possible he was able to understand the periodic table, advanced equations and yet was simply unable to figure out how the bloody oven worked. HOW was it possible such a thing could be used for cooking? Asking someone was beyond the possibilities that bubbled in his brain, and instead the lithe pala had found himself sitting in front of the oven for hours, scowling hard at it. The scowling hadn't worked wonders however, and Edward had been forced to retreat after hours of failed study.

Instead, the pala had padded into the living room, and at that moment had decided to entertain himself with a cd player; thus how he'd found himself listening to music, blinking rapidly at the lines that flowed through him from the headphones. Music was another thing he simply seemed unable to comprehend; idly he figured it must be one of those other simple things in life, however, for whatever the reason, he seemed unable to keep his foot from moving tot he rhythm of the sounds that entered his mind.

His foot kept on moving to the music despite him scowling at it. It was like being possessed by a ghost. Something like that. He wasn't truly sure, but no matter how much he tried to keep it from moving, with his own hands, he found his tail would take on a light swishing instead. It was... rather frustrating, if you asked him.

Fluffy, whom was sitting by the lithe pala, thought this was a very entertaining thing to watch, however. Since she too could hear the music that flowed from the headphones, there was little she could do from keeping her own tail from thumping the ground to the rhythm; she unlike Edward could, and did in fact, understand music. She understood the lyrics of the song that was drifting through the living room too, of course, and there was perhaps a slightly knowing smirk painted upon her maw. Sometimes it paid to be blissfully unaware, she thought; 'acting like we're animals', huh?

This, Fluffy thought, was much better than watching TV, thank you very much.

Alphonse's morning had been nothing short of an adventure, to him anyway, and a productive one at that. He'd woken up to realize his room was in need of straightening up... and what began as picking up a pillow here, straightening a curtain there... had led to the full-scale reorganization of his entire book collection, everything from The Ugly Duckling to Protein Phosphorylation (both of which were among his favorites). He then proceeded to notice his stash of cat food had run dry, forcing him to quest down into The Basement, the most terrifying room in the entire house, to retrieve more.

He would have just coaxed someone braver than himself (Edward) into doing it for him, but his brother seemed to be extremely busy with the oven, and so the larger Pala decided to tackle the challenge alone. It took him well over twenty minutes to find the courage to venture all the way down the creaky wooden stairs, and then nearly two additional hours to lug the bag of Science Diet (which weighed significantly more than he himself did) back to the top. It was nerve-wreaking, never knowing when, or if, the monsters he just knew were down there would come out... but he persevered, and finally, emerged victorious, cat food in hand.

After catching his breath, Al re-filled the food bowls just outside the front door and glanced at the clock. Realizing it was now well into the afternoon, he wandered around the house in search of Ed and Fluffy, only to find them still extremely busy... this time, studying some sort of audio file. With a little frown he turned and left, not wanting to bother them.

This left him to pace around the kitchen, back and forth, back and forth, unsure of precisely what to do with himself. It was a shame Yin was still terrified of him and Satu was always so busy reading, because he was beginning to feel the prickling of loneliness. ...then again, there were more Palas out there than just those he lived with, certainly! What more productive thing was there, than to make some new friends?

Alphonse had never, ever made the journey from his home to Elderspark alone before-- he'd never even considered doing such a thing-- but today he was feeling braver than usual, and wanted company desperately... so, with a daring gulp of air, he stepped outside and headed off toward the shop.

Dark Fire Angel
Growing frustrated as minutes passed, Edward scowled at the cd player; it made him want to move (something he'd later find out was called 'dancing', actually), yet at the same time, there was nothing he wished to do more than sit still, thank you very much. It was at this point that he finally took off the headphones, glowered at them and placed them over Fluffy's larger ears.

It was a scientific experiment after all; he wished to see if these things had the same effect on her as they did on him. Amusingly enough, the pala found the small wabbit had no problem with 'moving' to whatever music had been flowing out of the headphones at the moment. Interesting discovery indeed! It was, in fact, so interesting that he picked up the mini, cd player and headphones and headed towards Alphonse's room, quite intent on showing him this most unusual discovery.

After all... it was those simple things in life that tended to puzzle him.

Upon reaching his brother's room, however, he found it empty (never daring to count the amount of cats and kittens that roamed freely through it - he'd always been more of a dog person anyhow). Thus he decided to see if perhaps his brother could be found in the kitchen; the larger pala had always understood the mysteries of The Oven far better than he had, yet as he peeked into the room in question... Edward found his brother to be missing in action still.

Searching the other rooms of the house (even the basement) gave the same result; No Alphonse.

This was perhaps further more frustrating than not being able to understand The Oven, and Edward soon enough came to a conclusion; if Alphonse was not inside the house, it meant he was outside, and that he had to set off to find him. Idly figuring that the cd player would slow him down, the Pala set it on the table before padding out of the house, making sure he locked the door (his owner was adamant with him doing so - no leaving the doors open. He'd always wondered why).

Fluffy was soon aware that... the more they walked, the more... she had the distinct impression this had not been one of Edward's best ideas. In fact by the time the sun was setting and they had found nor Al, nor ES, nor their OWN house, the Wabbit was extremely sure this had been one of Edward's worse ideas ever.

She decided to voice this by whimpering pitifully in the lithe pala's arms, whimpering which Edward paid no attention to; where the hell was North anyhow?

Happy Tofu
Al reached Elderspark with no problems. It surprised him, really, to realize that he was always the one leading when they traveled here, and never any of the others in his rather large family. This thought was empowering; now he could come here whenever he pleased, and not have to worry about bothering his brother nearly as much! Edward did seem to enjoy complaining about him being overly clingy.

Such was his initial thought, anyway. However, as hard as he tried to enjoy this freedom, to wander around the shop and stare in fascination at all the fancy potions and flowers, his mind couldn't stop insisting that he was somehow abandoning his brother by not telling him he'd left, and by not inviting him along. Yet another voice chimed in with the eerily accurate point that, you're usually the one keeping him out of trouble, too.

He was here, having the time of his life (...not so much really), while Edward was probably at home, burning his hand on the stove, trying to feed Fluffy bird seed instead of the right food, nibbling on potato chips and calling them "dinner" (because he certainly was incapable of finding himself proper food)... and really, who knew what else?

Now moving into hardcore worried-mode, Alphonse spun on his heels and zipped out the shop, hurrying home beneath a giant cloud of guilt. He sighed a gigantic sigh of relief when he returned home to find it not burned to the ground, but the relief was short-lived; he twisted at the knob to find it locked. The door was never, ever locked unless everyone was out somewhere... and as far as he knew, Edward and Fluffy were the only two left. A quick inspection of the windows confirmed this suspicion.

Alphonse immediately shoved a handful of fingers in his mouth and chomped down on them, his entire frame shaking with worry. Nobody, nobody on this planet had worse direction sense than his brother... it was a fundamental fact, like how carbon was the basis of organic life. There was no way Ed would ever be able to find what he was looking for on his own... let alone his way back home. His only hope was Alphonse finding him and forcefully dragging him in the proper direction.

Which Al had every intention of doing, of course... so long as the quickly approaching darkness didn't inhibit him, let alone all the terrible things that lurked outside at night.

Dark Fire Angel
He was lost.

He was in fact, pretty damn lost indeed; not like he'd admit to this however, for it was just not within Edward's nature to admit to his own mistake so plainly. Deep down, the pala was fully aware of just how lost he was though; he even went as far as trying out that strange little technique he'd seen on TV. They claimed that when one was lost in a labyrinth, one had to put a hand out and follow the path, keeping the hand always against said wall.

This was not working, obviously, since there was no wall he could follow, and he wasn't exactly lost in a labyrinth either.

There were trees surrounding him, and though he knew there just had to be residential houses not far away, there was little he could do to keep the overwhelming feeling of doom from creeping upon him. He'd not found Al, he'd not found ES and he'd not even been able to find his way back home; bother. Just... great.

Allowing himself to find a small spot to sit at, what with the fact he'd also heard that when one was lost it was a good idea to stay still (Not that he was admitting he WAS lost in the first place), the pala simply paused to think. Thinking was something familiar; he could do thinking, and the more he thought, the more he figured that next time, he was going to bring a map, instead of Fluffy with him, for the small wabbit was not probing to be much of a help.

In fact, Fluffy was scared out of her wits; she was clinging to the small pala with teeth and claws, her pelt slightly fluffed out, much like her name seemed to hint. She'd not been made for these types of adventures, and though her wolf half seemed quite content where it was, the rabbit half of her seemed to be quite distressed; distress was winning over contentment indeed, and soon enough she lifted her head from the crook of Edward's neck and howled, deeply, in mourning.

It then occurred to both pala and wabbit that howling was perhaps not the best of ideas, and as Edward swiftly used his free hand to snap his pet's maw shut, Fluffy's ears flattened back in fear. Who knows what they could attract! Wolves perhaps! Or even worse; killer rabbits!

It was a good thing Edward didn't share these thoughts with Fluffy or she'd have been horribly offended.

Happy Tofu
Theoretically, finding Edward wasn't all that difficult a task. All Alphonse had to do was put himself in the metaphorical shoes of the smaller Pala.

In other words, he had to specifically ignore every last molecule of his own common sense. The louder and more desperately his brain screamed at him to follow that sign, it SAYS Elderspark is in that direction, the more likely his brother had ignored it and gone the other direction. When he approached the dark, terrifying forest and wanted nothing more than to run far, far away from it, he went inside.

He wondered, as he slowly crept along the darkening semi-path, past dark splotches, glowing eyes and trees that looked as though they wanted to slice him apart, whether this made him brave, selfless or downright stupid. The few times his thoughts began to question whether or not he'd even find Ed-- maybe he HAD followed the sign?-- he had to quash them, because the only thing that kept him moving forward was the thought that soon enough he'd find his brother, and then everything would be okay. If he didn't find Edward... well, Al could at least pray that whatever wild creature did eventually attack him would do so quickly, eating him before he could feel much pain.

...

When had that thought overtaken his mind? Withdrawing into himself a little, Al felt his bravery slipping quickly away, defenseless against the gruesome image now burned in his mind. It was only Fluffy's yowl, much too high and small-sounding to be a real wolf, that snapped him out of it. There was only one thing that could sound like that.

He hoped.

"...FLUFFY???"

He ran toward the noise, not bothering to dwell on the near-hysteria that was clear from the tone of his voice, a hysteria that practically screamed "come and eat me, I'm easy prey!" to the all the terrible things that just had to be all around him.

Dark Fire Angel
"...FLUFFY???"

The word rang through the air, both pala's and wabbit's ears perking at it, and it was at that moment in time that both decided that nothing had ever sounded more like heaven than that screeched voice, "ARU?!" the word was yelled into the night sky, accompanied by a mournful howl from Fluffy herself, whom was by now kicking at his owner in hopes he'd let go; she HAD to go rescue Alphonse!

Finally allowing himself to let go of the Mini, Edward stood up, gazing without moving himself towards the spot he calculated his brother would appear from within bare instants. Fluffy would, and could not wait any longer however and she launched herself towards that particular spot just as the larger, yet slightly younger pala appear, jumping into his arms instantly, whimpering pitifully.

She was NEVER ever going to leave home again if it was Edward doing the leading. Never! Had she been able to sob, she would've; instead she contented herself with mournful sounds that seemed akin to sobs, her head rubbing against Al's chest as the smaller Pala dashed forward too. It wasn't like Edward to tackle hug his brother, but truthfully and despite his attitude, he'd been horribly scared, and this seemed to be like the only clever thing he'd done today, "I was worried! Where were you? I couldn't find you home!

Happy Tofu
Alphonse clung to Fluffy, feeling just as heavenly pleased to be reunited with the familiar company as the mini. They simply weren't meant to be apart, he thought, because for all the griping Ed did about Alphonse and Fluffy's constant, need-for-companionship clinging, he was nothing short of hopeless without them. Similarly, without someone strong to safeguard them, Al and Fluffy were little more than useless themselves. But, as Edward's harsh words reminded him, it wasn't Fluffy's fault they'd been separated, nor was it his brother's. And yet, as much as he searched his mind for the reasoning he must have used earlier, the only believable excuse he could come up with was that it seemed like a good idea at the time!

The larger Pala shifted his weight between his feet awkwardly, eyes drifting away from Edward's golden gaze and settling instead upon a rock. In Alphonse body language, it was a clear sign of submission. If that weren't enough, the guilt radiating from him in waves would have been a sure enough sign. "Um," he clung tightly to Fluffy, eyes still looking anywhere but at his brother, "You seemed really busy and I didn't want to disturb you... so I uh, thought I'd go visit Elderspark."

It took a lot of courage to tear his eyes away from the ground and place them back on the Pala he was addressing, but it was a necessary task if he had any intention of using his only real weapon: big, tearful eyes of regret. Which, of course, he used. "...you always say how boring it is to go there, and how it wastes your time... so I did you a favor! I went all by myself! Aren't you pleased?"

Dark Fire Angel
Far from being 'extremely proud', Edward had to keep himself from gaping openly at his brother's train of thought; as it was, the smaller pala pulled away from their three-way huge and stared at him instead, his mouth hanging open. It was probably quite hard to tell if this gesture was done in admiration, shock at his brother's new found courage or something else altogether, "What?" the single word was less than eloquent, but it was the only one his mind seemed to simply for him to use at the time being, "You what?" as if needed, he repeated the question, now openly gawking at him because truthfully, the situation was gawk-worthy.

Idly he noted that next time he was 'busy' scowling at the oven or shaking that stupid musical contraption, he'd set a paper beside him that read 'No, I'm not too busy, so long you're a certain Alphonse, you're allowed to bother me'. Needless to say it was too late for that now; it had been his own fault for not inviting his brother to scowl at that oven, but Edward had been sure Aru would've had better things to do with his day than that. After all, Aru understood the oven; what need was there for the larger pala to study and scowl at it?

"I... I...." the thoughts he was looking to express rang around the lines of 'I ALWAYS say everything is boring! I ALWAYS say things waste my time, even if they don't; saying doesn't necessarily make it TRUE thought!' however, of course, voicing out such thoughts was more than a little difficult at best and instead he settled for offering Alphonse his best 'I didn't MEAN it!' expression, which he had to turn off the moment the other pala switched on his tearful eyes.

He hated those eyes.

Those eyes were the weapons of evil. TRUE evil.

Edward was sure that Alphonse could get him to do whatever he wanted; from baking, to cooking, to standing on his head while singing a lullaby if he so much as looked at him with those eyes and asked, "It's okay, you can... stop that.... gaze, I'm not mad." And he wasn't, really. More along the lines of relief, tell truth. Fluffy, was likewise relived and merely kept on clinging to her both owners, her tearful expression and pitiful whimpers seemingly reminding both pala that the wabbit was just happy they were all alive.

Happy Tofu
Alive was a relative term, however. Night had fallen by this point, making the area much too dark to even consider trying to return home. Their only real option was to find an appropriately comfortable place to "set up camp" for the night and hope to Imriel that nothing hungry would come across them during that time.

Alphonse was relieved to learn his brother held no resentment regarding his little adventure, even considering the less-than-ideal situation it'd inadvertently stuck them all in. He still suffered a little residual guilt, but not quite enough to prevent him from clinging to Edward, as it was the only way of making himself feel safe in such creepy surroundings.

The three finally came across an appealing, open space that they collectively decided would serve as their camp. After scrounging around together in search of firewood and debris, they produced a fire with little effort and gathered around it. When it came time to sleep, the younger Pala found himself incapable; the uncomfortable ground, the awkward feel of the dirt, and the substantial chill all prevented it, much as he tried, fidgeting and curling up tighter up inside his coat.

It was impossible to estimate how much time had passed before he gave up; Al could only hope it wasn't quite enough to have allowed the others to fall asleep. This clearly wasn't working, and he knew he wouldn't be able to last the night unless he could find comfort from something.

"Hey, Nii-san? Could you tell us a story?"

Dark Fire Angel
Edward was displeased.

He wasn't angry with his brother, or even Fluffy, whom was more than used to being on the receiving end of the blond pala's glares when things went wrong. No, Edward was displeased with his present surroundings, and as much as he scowled and crossed his arms over his chest and scowled some more, he found there was truly nothing he could do to change the situation he'd found himself within.

First off, it was dark; that in itself wouldn't have been a problem, but the fact he could almost barely see the dangerous critters roaming around, hidden by the shadows within his mind's eye did not help.

Second, it was cold. The fire they'd managed to light without difficulty wasn't proving to be much of a source of heat, really, and no matter how much he inched near it, he always found his backside, or his left side, or even his wings or tail were cold, at some given moment. Inching nearer was out of the question; he'd find himself within the stupid fire if he dared crawl any nearer, and though lacking in the common sense department, Edward knew that was a very bad idea indeed. Contrary to common belief, he did not always do things to get himself into precarious situations on purpose.

It was then, as he was thinking and scowling that he came to a determination; if all three of them sat or lay down together by the fire, then they'd be much warmer indeed. In fact, he had been in the process of suggesting this when Al's voice floated through their little camp. By the tone used, Edward knew there was no way he could squirm out of it and merely let out a sigh, hanging his head in defeat, "Fine, but I'll only tell it if we sit all together; I'm freaking cold," he waited for no answer and instead took the lead, sitting down by his brother, pressing his side against him, then rounding up Fluffy on his lap, "Anyhow, story, let's see..." his mind researched the dark corners of his mental cupboards in search for a story, finally smiling as he thought of one, "Okay see; there was once a little atom," he missed the way his brother's expression fell upon hearing the beginning of the story, and continued anyways, "It was a very interesting little atom by the way; all nice and balanced, with all his neutrons, protons and with seven electrons floating in it's outer shell!"

Still the pala missed the way his brother's face was falling deeper and deeper into something akin to a pout as the story continued, "But see, this atom... it needed eight electrons in it's outer shell to be truly happy; and one day it met up with another atom! And the fell in love, and formed a covalent bond," a nod at this point, "Then they lived happily ever after, each with the right amount of electrons they wished for, The End," This time however, he did turn to look at his brother, catching not only the pout but the whimper that escaped his lips.

This was obviously not the story Alphonse wanted, "Fine, fine!!" throwing his arms up, he rolled his eyes and began to retell another story, "There was once a little dog," he turned to eye his brother, "There was once a little Cat?" he corrected himself, earning himself a grin, at which point he rolled his eyes, "And this cat, see, he wanted to become ..." a pause as he racked his mind, "Big! Yes, it wanted to become big; but the other cats it lived with insisted it had to drink milk to grow up! And the little cat thought that milk was a nasty, foul thing. Rightfully so, so anyhow," again racing his brain, the pala shifted uncomfortably; story telling was not his forte when it wasn't about Atoms, Covalent bonds, or Chemistry, "Then..." another pause, "Then one day all of the sudden, the little cat grew up! And it was able to loom over the other cats it lived with, and the other cats apologised for ever telling the little cat it had to drink it's milk to grow. Everyone was happily and they all lived happily after, The End."

Fluffy merely rolled her eyes. There were just no words.

Happy Tofu
Alphonse was more than happy to cuddle; it was in his nature to, it was comforting, and most importantly, it was very, very warm. The story, however, was less than perfect; he'd asked Edward to tell him stories in the past, and he'd be damned if his brother didn't tell the same one every single time, down to the abrupt and unpoetical "...the end!" Usually Al put up with it, not wanting to hurt his brother's feelings, and anyhow, the sound of his voice was usually enough to lull him to sleep no matter how uncreative the plot. Still, he wasn't at home right now, and he certainly wasn't warmly tucked under a pile of blankets; he needed a real story.

Not that he was hard to please. Ed's second story, of the cat-who-wanted-to-be-tall, was enough to make his night a whole lot better. If anything, because it painted within his mind an image of a small golden kitten with long blond bangs and a braid, scowling at everything and never really meaning it. He didn't share this thought with his brother, though; he knew it would go unappreciated.

That aside, by the end of the story, Al was already floating off to sleep, a small smile as the only sign he'd heard the end at all. The Pala tugged Fluffy close against his chest, his back pressed flat against his brother's, and with this feeling of closeness and warmth, it only took a few more minutes for him to drift off entirely.

Unfortunately, the contentment wasn't entirely deserved. The sounds of their voices, and the light from their fire, had already begun to lure some of the creatures of the forest in their direction.

Dark Fire Angel
It was rather amusing for Edward to note that his pitiful attempt at stories usually actually worked on his brother; proof was in the fact Alphonse lay with his back pressed against his, slowly drifting off into dreamland as he spoke. It would take the pala bare few more minutes to drift off completely, or so Edward figured as he pulled his coat tightly against his own form, allowing his eyes to close.

This was much better, he decided; his brother and Fluffy were pressed against his back securely offering warmth where there had been cold before, and the fire that had been inefficient early, was managing to do the rest. Not only that, but the closeness secured the pala that his other two companions were safe and sound; it was enveloped within these notions and feelings that he finally allowed sleep to take him, unawares of the creatures that had begun to lurk around their campsite, hidden by the darkness of the night.

It was only much, much later that said creatures began to approach further, only once assured that all three campers were deeply asleep; Fluffy's snores resounded against Edward and Alphonse's deep breathing. Moving with stealth, the figure, merely a shadow at first, approached the fire, followed by another, and another; only after the fire washed over them were they easily identified as wolves however, and had the palas been awake, they would've probably run fast and far.

Alas, sleep had taken them completely, and not even Fluffy seemed to be aware of her surroundings.

All three wolves approached further and further; one, larger than the other two and of a deep black color, stretched it's maw to sniff at Edward's hair, snorting loudly when hair tickled it's nose. Another, smaller, white hued, turned and circled Alphonse, taking the edge of his trench coat into it's maw, giving a slight tug before releasing. The third one however, middle sized and of a prominent grey, had found something it deemed to be much more interesting than it's peers had; it had found Fluffy. Sniffing at the Wabbit, the wolf swiftly seemed to come to a determination, growled low under it's breath and attracted the other two's attention, both coming around to stare at the small, sleeping Wabbit.

It happened int a flash; the black wolf leaned in, snatched fluffy by the scruff of her neck and ran, vanishing into the foliage, followed nearby by it's peers, having left footprints all around the palas. Fluffy's scared howl pierced the night then as she woke up, no longer in Alphonse's arms, but hanging from a very large wolf's maw as it ran, deeper and deeper into the forest.

Happy Tofu
Sleep was an unpredictable thing for Al; rather, the unpredictability lay in how deeply it would overtake him. In some situations, he'd sleep quite blissfully straight through a hurricane, but in other situations, the faintest mew from a kitten would have him awake and alert within moments. This was apparently a latter scenario.

The second Fluffy howled, regardless of the distance the wolves had already carried her by then, Alphonse sprung awake, looking around frantically for what was wrong. He discovered with no small amount of horror that nothing was wrong so much as missing; his arms did feel rather cold. Not bothering to wake his brother (who, a quick glance told him, was still asleep), the Pala sprung to his feet and dashed off, madly, in the direction of Fluffy's cry.

As he ran, Al didn't think of what he should do when he found Fluffy's tormentors, nor did he dwell on what sort of horrendous creatures they might be. He didn't even stop to consider how less-than-pleased Edward would be, were he to wake up and find himself two companions less... let alone were anything else to go after him in the meanwhile.

These things would have bugged Al, had he been considering them. But he wasn't; his thoughts looped on the panicked thoughts of Fluffy's overall safely, and that of the desire to find her immediately. With these occupying his mind, he ran, he stumbled, he tripped, he resumed running... over and over, in an endless cycle, until he finally stumbled (quite literally) upon those he was seeking.

From his spot-- the same one he landed in following his stumble-- beneath a bended tree, half-hidden in leaves and thickets, he could make out wolves... large wolves with sharp teeth and glowing eyes and... and his Fluffy. Right there, still hanging by the one wolf's maw, though no longer howling.

What to do? He didn't want to do nothing, obviously; Fluffy needed him. On the other hand, however, he didn't want to barge right in, causing chaos. He knew, knew as well as his own name, he'd never be able to harm an animal. Regardless of how big or scary they were, regardless of whether or not they'd wabbit-napped his little friend, regardless of even if they threatened his own life... he just wouldn't be able to. And as such, he knew better than to put himself into a situation that'd inevitably lead to such a thing.

In the end, he decided to wait them out. From here, he could watch Fluffy (and intervene if it became necessary) and meanwhile, hope nothing too terrible would happen until the wolves fell asleep and he could sneak off with the Wabbit.

Dark Fire Angel
The wolves, however, were cunning creatures. Or rather, they were perhaps further more adept at hunting than Alphonse was at stalking, for they'd noticed him coming after them a while back. In fact, the wolves were sure the whole bloody forest had heard him coming, what with the fact the pala had tripped seventy million times! Noisily at that.

They waited though, and it was only after a while that the large black one seemed to make a signal, the other two wolves leaving his side before the vanished through the vegetation, only to reappear inches away from Al, on either his side. Their mouths opened, teeth flashing in the moon light and...

~ - ~ - ~ - ~

It wasn't the howl that awoke Edward, nor his brother's frantic running. Not even the fact he was alone and slightly cold did the trick, for the blond pala was deeply asleep, in heaven perhaps. He was having a dream about a pool of knowledge, with books swimming around it's letter filled waters like fish after all, and nothing could've awaken him up.

Well, nothing except the stray mosquito that had decided the small pala's nose looked like a great dinner; it swooped down, landed upon the black surface and... well, the mosquito did it's business. Edward was unsure if it'd been the scrambling of the tiny feet upon his skin that woke him up, or the fact the stupid critter was making a meal of him... for whatever the reason, the reaction was immediate; Ed's hand lifted in the air and came to land with force over his own nose, the pain it caused only minimal and he disregarded it in the wake of the pleasure the fact he'd destroyed such a vile creature caused. It was only around then that he noticed something was distinctly wrong with his immediate surroundings, and as Edward moved to snuggle further into his brother's back for warmth... he swiftly understood just what seemed to be wrong.

His brother was gone. Alphonse was not there. Nor was Fluffy! Something was wrong. Something was very wrong.

This couldn't be happening.

Swiftly standing up, Edward rushed through the woods, turning right where his instincts that told him to turn left; after all, it'd been cleverly demonstrated his sense of direction was just as severely lacking as... well, he wasn't exactly sure as what, but he didn't care to find out at the moment. Instead he was more intent on finding his brother and Fluffy. After minutes of mad dashing, he finally stumbled upon the frightening sight however.

There stood Al, hidden by the foliage, staring at dark black wolf whom held Fluffy in it's maw. However, that wasn't what caused Edward to pale; no, it was the fact two wolves had circled his brother, one on either side, their maws open, teeth flashing in the moonlight and...

.... ....

...

... Then the wolves licked Al's cheeks, leaving long trails of saliva as the racked their tongues upon the young pala's pelt.

Had Edward not been petrified, he would've laughed; so stupidly unreal did the situation seem to him as he watched. However, he had no time to think it over, for when he turned he found the large black wolf before him. The pala was somehow sure it flashed him a smirk before it dropped Fluffy at his feet, giving the Wabbit a soft nuzzle; she was a half wolf creature - the wolf hadn't wanted to hurt her but rather, play with her. And with this, the wolves turned and left into the darkness of the forest, howling once when far enough to not be seen by the palas; and it was only then that Edward sunk to his knees, hugging Fluffy before he crawled over to Alphonse, "You know what? Let's... let's just go home now; sleep can wait till we get there."

Thus home they went. After several hours of tumbling through the forest anyhow, and they promised each other that no further adventures would happen within that week. Alas... there's just no way to control fate.

"A Nightmare's Dream"

Dark Fire Angel

Boredom wasn't even near what Gabriel felt; probably best described as something half between annoyance, slight disgust and restlessness. Truth be told, he'd never liked Christmas. Or rather, that wasn't exactly right; saying that he'd never liked Christmas since one particular event long ago was much more accurate.

Everyone was talking about Christmas here, and Christmas there; love here, love there, care, care, care, blah blah... whom gave a damn anyhow? It was just a Holiday; it happened every single year! As the silver kyun padded out of the elderspark shop, closing the door by slamming his back hoof against it, he simply couldn't understand what all the fuss was about anyhow. Plus, it was bleeding cold! Who even liked the cold anyhow? It just didn't fit into his mind, how anyone could enjoy this time of year that much; never once did it cross his mind that he was bitter and that he was being unusually grumpy. So much that he'd forced himself to leave the shop and pad away into the ES gardens, stopping by a random tree where he'd lowered his head and begun bucking his head in an attempt to sharpen his horns.

The action had always been one that relaxed him deeply; there was only one thing that seemed to be able to sedate him further, and that was a secret only his human knew about, though she did tend to use it against him quite often. Especially as of late since become slightly more grumpy as the holidays neared. His human was sympathetic with him though; she knew what few others knew, or barely remembered, and thus she emphasized. Despite Gabriel's constant whines and growls, he'd actually become quite attached to the human; though this of course, didn't precisely mean others knew about or even noticed. Daffu knew however, and Gabbu too. That was enough.

Standing by the tree, bucking his head, the male kept on sharpening his horns till he'd left long gashes on the bark, his nose coming to sniff at them before rubbing his head instinctively against the tree. This done, he merely sat down and looked off, his quill tail coming to wrap around his four legs as he allowed his eye lids to drop.

Actually... above all, he was kind of lonely; he missed those of his species. He'd not even seen that stupid sun kyun in a long time, while Fafnir and Hong, being family, were two he'd been forced to live with. They were hardly new, or interesting by now. He missed the old days; there were always so many kyuns around...

Kanashimii

Wandering around the side of the street, Jaenelle let her paws guide her. After going to that inscence shop the other day with her new friend, Kanashimii, she was tempted to go again. It was mysterious in all kinds of ways, but it also had something warm and comforting about it. Not having a home for the longest time, that place almost felt... like home. The fluffy kyunru let her long tail, trail behind her as she kept walking to her own pace, making her way to the Elderspark. A small coat of snow rested on the ground as it snowed lightly the night before. Jaenelle liked this season. A lot of people seemed to complain about the cold and the snow, but she really liked it all. Perhaps because her fur was a little thicker than the ones of everyone else? Or because her long hair and tail could also be used as warm scarves? As cold as it was outside, it felt like a warm season to her. Especially now that the holidays were just around the corners.

Taking in a deep breath, the warmness coming out of her mouth made a small puff of fog in front of her as it escaped into the chilly air. She smiled lightly to that and made her way toward the shop's door. As she put her right front paw on the first set of stairs, she stopped. A strange kind of noise had reached her ears. Something was hitting... something else? She stepped back and kept silent, listening carefully. Jaenelle let the sounds guide her to the back of the shop, where a few trees kept the light from coming through, and there she saw... another kyunru! She hadn't met or seen any of them species like her in such a long time. What to do? What to say? Stupidly she staid there for a moment, observing the silver male bucking against the tree and then finally stop after a moment. He sat under the tree and closed his eyes.

Questionning herself, the snow leopard kyunru wasn't sure if she should go see him or not. He seemed in a bad mood, she didn't want to disturb him. But she would like to help him if it was possible? Even to strangers, Jaenelle was the kind who disliked to see others sad or frustrated. Therefore she took a deep breath and stepped forward, making her way to the large tree, and the silver kyunru laying under it.

"Valentine's Day"

Happy Tofu
[ image snip ]

Alphonse awoke early on the following morning, restless after having slept through the majority of the previous day. Spending all night running around lost in a forest was exhausting, he'd come to realize, and something he really had no intention of doing again. Not only was it tiring, it was distracting-- he'd almost, almost missed the large pink circle on his calendar indicating the single most important day of the year. This would be his first Valentine's Day since coming out of his lamp, and he knew it had to be perfect.

He crept down the stairs as silently as possible, not wanting to wake the victim of his holiday plans. The clock said it was 6am, and if he knew his brother as well as he figured, that would give him at least two hours to start the preparations before he'd have to start finding ways to lure Edward away from the kitchen. Tugging a gigantic cookbook out from his Secret Hiding Place, Al flipped to a bookmarked page ("Strawberry Tiramisu for Two"), pre-heated the oven, and got to work.

He hoped Fluffy would remember her jobs for today as well; namely, warning him if Edward looked as though he wanted to venture in an Off Limits part of the house, and otherwise, do everything possible to keep him occupied in the meanwhile.

Yin was something of an insomniac, never quite getting the proper amount, or quality, of sleep. On those rare few nights when she managed to lay still for the full seven to nine recommended hours, she still awoke constantly, needing to double-check her surroundings, peek under her bed, and gain reassurance from Inky, her Blue-ringed Llama bodyguard, before resuming sleep. This all-encompassing paranoia was the basis of her life, and somehow, she was okay with that.

This morning was one of the decreasingly common cases where she awoke early and found herself unable to fall back asleep. (Little did she realize, gaining the friendships of Inky and Pyry had both calmed her down significantly and eased her insomnia.) Giving in to the temptation to wander-- as staying in her room would only serve as a reminder of the nightmare she'd just had-- Yin crept down the hallway, past the rooms of her housemates, including Pyry's. Realizing this, she backpedaled a little, peeking her head over the door frame to find... he was missing. With a frown, she walked inside fully and investigated all the places he could possibly be hiding-- the closet, under the bed, in his drawers-- albeit unsuccessfully. Not quite sure what to do with herself, she wandered over to his bed and flopped down on top of it. Although her intention was to sit up, awaiting his return, she soon felt the gravity of not having gotten enough sleep overtaking her, and moments later, she'd flopped down onto her side and was fast asleep.

Dark Fire Angel

Edward liked to sleep. But at the same time, he always felt guilty if he so much as thought of sleeping in; just think of all that wasted time he could've used doing some healthy reading! Or even some healthy investigating! Then again, his mind argued with him as he rolled over on the bed, saving away from the sun that tried to pour through the shut window, there's not much to investigate within the house anymore, nor are the any books he hadn't read already three times at least.

Between pondering and not, it took the pala a good hour and a half before he sat up on the bed, rubbing his eyes slightly; the clock read 7:30am, and had it not been for the fact he instantly noted... something was wrong, Edward would've rolled back into the bed. As it was, he got up and frowned (it was a morning tradition, the frowning), and peeked out into the hallway; there, silence greeted him, and his frown deepened. The house was never in silence, except when something was about to happen, and thus he crept out and peered into the adjacent room, which just so happened to belong to Al; he wanted to warn his brother of the eminent doom and danger.

Al was not there however. His bed was, in fact, neatly done, rearranged and happily organised instead.

Doom.

Instantly he stopped on his tracks though; this negative thinking was starting to remind him of Yin of all palas, and god knew he didn't want to resemble Yin. So thus he calmed down and strolled towards the next place his mind thought Al could be at; the kitchen.

Fluffy had in fact, remembered her duty however, and as soon as Ed approached the kitchen, she barked loudly as a warning and tackled the approaching pala down onto the floor (How a wabbit as small was able to knock down a pala will remain a secret we'll blame on Edward's height), licking his face as she moved her tail. Oh how she loved distracting others! She just hoped Al had heard her.

[ image snip ]

Life was good! Then again, when was life EVER not good for Pyry?

Yeah; exactly. Never.

The thought, however, never occurred to Pyry as he fleeted from side to side in the kitchen, helping Al with the Major Master Plan of Love and Pink Bunnies. Al had come up with 'Mayor plan', Pyry had decided that it'd sound better if they added 'Of love and pink bunnies', even though the whole procedure had little to nothing to do with bunnies anyhow, unless one counted Fluffy, and she was not even a bunny, but a wabbit.

Pyry blinked as he noticed his mind had derailed; it did that often though, and the blue pala was not entirely bothered by it. What had he been doing? Ah yes... he was going to fetch a certain recipe he'd taken off the Internet the other day! Excusing himself, he skipped out of the kitchen, jumping over the fallen Edward as he headed towards his room; imagine his surprise however, when on his bed he found a sleeping Yin. He found himself debating whether to wake her up or not, however, after much thinking, he finally decided that waking her would be bad; she barely ever got any sleep! The poor girl...

Thus instead, he grabbed the piece of paper he'd left on his desk, and was about to exit when he thought twice of it, padded over to Yin to pat her head; it was a soft gesture, barely noticeable, but he hoped it'd ward away any nightmares she were to have. This done, the young male walked off towards the kitchen again, happy recipe in hand and all!

Happy Tofu
Alphonse greeted Pyry cheerfully when he entered the kitchen, happy to have his co-plotter around to keep him company as he worked. Pyry wasn't exactly the best partner when it came to delicate tasks like baking, but that was just fine with Al; he loved everyone the way they were, incapabilities and all. Besides, he had the patience of a saint and an uncanny ability to handle almost any type of personality (case in point, his brother), and with these twin skills at his disposal, was able to keep Pyry occupied with small, simple tasks that took a lot of energy and weren't overly subtle. Pyry was the batter-mixer, the ingredient-fetcher, and the the batter-taster, among other things.

He'd just managed to complete his Tira Misu by this time, proving things were going right on schedule. Things were perfect, if you will. He'd planned to finish before Pyry woke up, because Tira Misu was much more tricky (and a lot less fun) than the sorts of cookies and muffins the other Pala had picked out. After wrapping and storing his masterpiece (with a fairly proud smile), Alphonse instructed Pyry to collect the necessary dishes and ingredients to begin the next set of treats while he himself read over the sheet of paper, double- and triple-checking the recipe until he deemed himself confident they had everything they needed.

It was at this moment, when Alphonse had turned, about to instruct Pyry to hand him the flour, that Fluffy began to yap at the top of her lungs. Panicking almost to the point of dropping the bowl in his hands, Al motioned, "don't touch anything, I'll be right back" to the other Pala, sat down the bowl, grabbed a large book he'd had on the counter, and zipped out of the kitchen. He slowed his pace right before coming into view of Fluffy and Edward in an attempt to look as everyday-innocent as possible. He smiled a big old smile and promptly shoved the book at Edward with slightly less gentility than normal, "Look at what I found you, brother! Advanced Stoichiometry! I remember you'd been looking for it, and I found it for you, so you should go out into the living room and read it right now, don't you think??"

He gently grasped Edward's right hand in between both of his, then leading him out into the living room, motioning to the couch. He puttered around for a little while, realizing it'd be damned suspicious for him to speed back to the kitchen a mere second later. Subtleness was hard, but at least he had a better sense of it than his brother... little as that said about him.

Yin was asleep, blissfully asleep, nightmare-free and relaxed for one of the rare moments in her life. Something about this room was just less scary than her own; even the monsters were nice, she distantly noted; one of them was petting her head.

She slept in pretty late, hours later than the others, finally waking to find herself feeling exceptionally... not bad. Sliding off the bed with a yawn and a stretch, Yin fixed her hair within minutes and began to inch her way down the stairs. She heard puttering around in the kitchen, a sort of chaotic series of noises that couldn't be caused by anyone but Pyry... and with an odd feeling of I'd-really-like-to-go-see-Pyry, she followed the noises in the direction of the kitchen.

Dark Fire Angel
Being 'attacked' by Fluffy wasn't nearly as offsetting as having Alphonse rush out of... was it the kitchen? Edward wasn't quite sure; the Wabbit's drool was getting in the way, however, it didn't quite matter where Alphonse had rushed out of, but rather, what mattered was the fact he'd practically pushed a book into Edward's face and then had presented to drag him off towards the living room.

Must be one hell of a book.

That's all the blond pala's mind seemed to register was he was forcefully sat down and book placed on his lap, his brow arching ever so slowly at his brother, "Riiiiight..." he drawled out the word, seemingly not fully convinced, however it didn't even take him two full minutes before he dragged his gaze off from the taller pala and onto the book. Flipping pages and sinking down into the reading, Edward was soon enough drowned in the wonderful world of Advanced Stoichiometry.

So immersed into his reading was he that he completely ignored Alphonse when he slipped out of the room. Fluffy however, decided it was best she remain on the Ed's lap in hopes of keeping him warm and occupied; she would be unable to handle Al's inevitable crying if the so called 'perfect plan' crashed down. Tell truth thought, the Wabbit was perfectly sure that it'd crash anyways, because the moral of story was that Nothing was ever Perfect.

Meanwhile, Pyry had surprisingly enough, NOT managed to burn down the kitchen in Alphonse's absence; in fact, the Illunaan was standing quite formally and happily in the middle of said room, looking towards the doorway expectantly. It was clear Pyry had decided that Al was the head of their operation and that following his instructions would result in more love and happiness in the end. Everyone knew that Pyry lived for Love and Happiness after all!

AS he stood in the kitchen however, he did not notice Yin approaching; he was much too busy planning the Vday event for her to savour and enjoy! They were all just going to have so much fun! Everything was perfect!

Happy Tofu
Alphonse slipped out of the living room and back toward the kitchen, only allowing the heavy sigh of relief out once he knew his brother wouldn't be able to overhear it. His relief was short-lived, though; his "partner in crime" seemed to have forgotten that more than one Pala was banned from the kitchen for the day... that, or he was too preoccupied to notice. Either way, in an attempt to get his attention, Alphonse clumsily cried out, "Uh, uh, HI THERE YIN!!" as he power-walked over to her, moving himself between her and the kitchen doorway.

Yin's body tensed up shock-still upon being addressed, her eyes alone moving in a slow, suspicious manner, tracking Alphonse's approach. She knew he was capable as a monster, certainly; she'd seen him pummel the life right out of the golden monster enough times when provoked enough, but he'd always left her alone. Granted, at first he had tried to seduce her with kindness, but she didn't fall for cheap monster-tricks, and eventually he'd given up attempting to fool her. Since then he'd simply made an effort to avoid her; now that he seemed to have taken up an interest in her once again, she didn't know what to do.

So, she went for her default. She began to whimper, clutching Inky as though he were her lifeline, and eventually broke down into full-out screeches. Clearly, she'd miscalculated; Pyry was not here. Turning tail, she ran for the living room-- what was often her safe house-- only to be greeted with what was easily the single worst monster in the house. That golden one. The king of the monsters.

The screeches of terror and "NOOOOOOOO~!" that came upon this realization reverberated all the way back to the kitchen.

He winced, scrabbling to place his hands over his already-aching ears. Al turned to Pyry with the most pathetic eyes he could muster, gesturing with his elbows-- as his hands certainly couldn't be freed-- in the direction of the living room. His expression clearly read, "Go and calm her down, please?"

Dark Fire Angel
((XDDD I love Yin, I can't help but laugh hard whenever she rps, oh god~~))

Edward had soon enough found his book was deeply fascinating; He'd missed the fact his brother left, not to mention he'd actually missed the not-so-subtle act, and he would've probably been entertain for a good couple of hours had Yin not come screeching into the living room. The screams almost startled him out of the sofa. Almost.

Instantly the blond pala was at his feet, the book securely placed on the sofa as he growled at the screaming girl; WHAT was wrong with her anyhow?! Didn't she know that it was impossible to read with this racket?! Instead of trying to understand the skittish female, he promptly grabbed cushion from the sofa, taking aim before tossing it with force at the girl in hopes it'd his her head and she'd shut the hell up.

... He couldn't reaaaally be blamed for his actions; or maybe he could. Either way, Edward was not in the mood to think before acting, and even in those rare moments where his intelligence shined through where behavior was involved, Edward found he rarely ever had the chance to think before acting. His body moved on it's own accord. This was one of those moments.

The pillow that had been aimed for Yin however, hit Pyry square on the face instead, forcing the blue pala to take a few steps back before he raised his hands to cover his eyes, almost as if in fear the attack would be repeated. Eep! ... however, no more pillows were tossed at his person and soon enough he opened an eye to peek through it, opening his arms just in time to catch Yin into a hug as she ran away from Ed.

Well, that wasn't very nice!

For the fist time in a very long time, Pyry frowned at Edward, almost scolding him for his actions, the way a young boy might've scowled at an adult's action. The expression was strange upon the Illu's soft features, but it held determination as he stroked Yin's head, "That's not nice!"

"SHE WAS SCREAMING!!"

".... You're kinna screaming now too."

Silence followed. The kind of silence that seems to threaten the fact a storm was about to erupt.

Happy Tofu
While it was quite simple to make Yin scream, it was almost impossible to make her cry. She lived in fear, not sadness. However, Ed, the golden monster as she thought of him, was one of the few who actually managed it multiple times. She couldn't quite understand why he seemed to be so angry with her all the time (granted, he tended to scowl at everyone, but a Pala like Yin really had no way of knowing that), nor why he was so eager to see her suffering in a pool of misery and pain.

But regardless of why he did it, he did. The pillow-- his most recent means of assaulting her-- didn't manage to hit her, but that didn't stop the tears from beginning to pour down her face. If anything, the fact that it hit Pyry instead, her first and only Pala-friend, when it was intended for her, only made her all the more upset. Pyry hadn't done anything. The golden monster hated HER, and even if she wasn't sure why, there had to be a reason. Putting two and two together, this meant she'd inadvertently caused Pyry to be injured.

Sure, he was comforting her now, but that was simply out of pity; it was only a matter of time before it became resentment. He'd probably never forgive her. He'd probably hate her forever. Yin thought she knew terror and sadness, but nothing quite compared to what she felt knowing this; nothing could help her cope with the images of a future without a friend like Pyry there to protect her.

Unfortunately, every genre and intensity of Yin sadness and Yin fear all sort of looked the same. It was nearly impossible to realize such morbid thoughts were going through her head, especially since she had no intentions of voicing them. Her whimpers and tears were even decreasing, making it seem as though everything was better.

Dark Fire Angel
Now, Edward would've been completely unaware of Yin's thoughts and feelings, even if they'd been writen in blood before his very eyes; his mind simply did not and could not work like that. He acted without thinking, irrational perhaps, or maybe just childishly selfish, strictly unaware of the fact his actions and words hurt other people.

At any rate, nor Yin's sniffles, nor Pyry's slight glare (which fell quite short of glare, really, more along the lines of unhappy frown), affected his growling; if anything, the intensity of his words grew ten fold as he pointed a finger at them, acusingly, for they HAD indeed disturbed a very important reading moment for him! He'd only just begun chapter three when the wailing had interrupted him, "Well it's COMMON CURTESY that your friend here ignores ot BE QUIET when someone's READING! Don't you understand the importance of such a task?!"

It was safe to say that no, Pyry could not understand the importance of such a task; all he knew was that the smaller pala clinging to him was crying and thought Yin was used to screaming, not to mention paranoia outburst.... Pyry could could count on one hand the time he'd ever seen her cry. This was one of those rare few times, and it did not amuse him in the least. He pondered fetching Al for a moment, his mind (as fluffy as it usualy was, for once thinking straight), telling him that the larger pala seemed to be the only one able to sooth Edward enough into silence.

However, some other part of him wished to resolve the situation for himself; he HAD to show Yin he could protect her from ANY monster, or rather, any potential monster, actualy, for as far as Yin was concerned, everything was a monster. His frown deepened, if only slightly, "Well, yelling and throwing pillows isn't very nice either, that I know of..." he decided against using big words, sticking to those few he knew, however, he was soon enough forced to Eep loudly, grab Yin and dash down the hallway, Ed chasing after them, waving yet another pillow in the air, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO~~!!" his screaching wail as he dashed, still holding Yin tightly was loud; so loud in fact, that Yin herself should've felt PROUD of him. Maybe she was rubbing off on him somwhat.

Happy Tofu
Yin's head was a mess of thoughts by this point, none of them all that happy. She was still certain Pyry was going to reject her any minute-- maybe he already had? How was she to know they weren't really working together, luring her to the monster's cave as a sacrificial snack? Even if not, it sure looked as though she was going to die either way, because the golden monster was angry. At least she'd had the opportunity to live a relatively good life...

Alphonse brushed the residue flour from his hands, his face alight with pride as he leaned down to observe the slowly-baking cookies in the oven. Pyry hadn't returned yet, but that was okay; if anything, it meant he was aiding in distracting Yin and Edward which was most the most important, and most difficult, aspect of their plan. Besides, the best part-- icing and decorating the cookies-- had yet to come. It was really the only part Pyry wouldn't want to miss for anything, Al knew, and with this thought in mind, he ventured off to see if he could track down the blue Pala.

Unfortunately, his timing was uncanny; no sooner had he stepped out into the hallway than the three dashed down it, Yin and Pyry in the lead and Edward taking up the rear. He had to register what he'd seen at first-- being caught off-guard-- but as soon as he did, he took off after them, his face the epitome of "displeased".

Alphonse was an exceptionally peaceful little Pala; he avoided confrontation and would usually give anyone the benefit of the doubt before passing any judgments. As with all things, though, there were exceptions-- one, in this case: Edward. Al didn't need to hear stories, didn't need to have been there, to know roughly what had gone on... and frankly, it was a disappointing notion. He really wished his brother could be a little less of... well, of an a*****e. Yin had the potential of being such a good friend to them both-- and Pyry certainly liked Al enough-- but no, Ed just had to go and harass them, driving them away. It made Al upset just as much as it made him mad.

The two victims had ended up in a corner by the time he arrived; Edward was still advancing, pillow in hand. It wasn't until this point that Alphonse noted the tears on Yin's cheeks-- something any genius could trace back to his brother. Hunching his shoulders in fury, Alphonse stomped over to his brother raised himself as tall as he could, leaning forward so as to tower over him, "Why are you always such big bully!? Do you take pleasure out of being mean to others!? I'm so angry with you, brother, I don't think I want to see your mean face around me for a long, long time! But first, you'd better apologize to Yin and Pyry!! RIGHT NOW. And with meaning."

Dark Fire Angel
They were trapped. Trapped like rats, or mice. Pyry liked both really, but he liked mice more, if only because they were smaller and easier to fit into pockets of bags and backpacks; they were easier to smuggle into places too. But that was beside the point; point was they were trapped against a corner... he could feel the cold wall pressed against his back as he attempted to merge himself and Yin into it while Edward advanced in a stalking manner towards them.

He was quite sure he'd felt a whimper escape his lips, his ears flopping to the sides of his head as he gripped Yin tighter, if only because he was treating her much like she treated Inky; a life line. She was supposed to be the source of his courage, but it... wasn't working right now.

Not with Edward stalking towards them like that.

There were very few things in life that Pyry felt were scary, and the blond pala before them, was one of those. In fact, he closed his eyes, waiting for the not-so-merciful finishing hit then Al's voice, screaming, situated in front of him, startled him into peeking his eye open.

If there was anything in the world able to make Edward stop and reconsider it was his brother; specially when he yelled. And extra especially when he towered over him like that; there were just no words, and the blond pala found himself blinking, his anger draining away at the same time he opened his hands, the pillow falling soundlessly on the floor.

Just as it washed away however, in came the guilt, and the resentment, and though he glared at Yin and Pyry, hissing an apology he did not mean towards them, he wasted no time in storming right back to the living room, looking very much off-put and angry. This time however, with himself.

Pyry on the other hand had decided that cookies and sweets were JUST the thing Yin needed to get over this traumatic ordeal with and thus finally let go of her, "Stay here," he told her, and this said, he pushed the seething Al down the hall and towards the kitchen. Sweets made EVERYONE happy; he was sure they'd make Edward happy too. Never did it cross his mind that Yin might feel downright rejected.

Happy Tofu
(( Hey, Yin, was that a post or an emo LJ entry?
Yin: emo It is my soul. emo ))

Alphonse was shaking, fists curled at his sides and his face and a mess of emotions. Namely, he was struggling with some leftover anger and mostly, he was trying not to go dashing after Edward, in tears, begging for forgiveness for being unspeakably cruel himself. Really, chewing people out was hardly on Al's list of most-fun-ever-omg. The guilt alone almost always ruined his day.

However, today couldn't be ruined. It was still late-morning, there were cookies about ready to be decorated, and... and well, it was Valentine's Day. Pyry was right; cookies were probably the best solution right now. He and Ed could both have a little time to "cool down" and then when he did go to apologize, he'd have an offer of cookies and Tira Misu and... well, everything would just magically be better. It's not as though this fight were any worse than the one when Fluffy had arrived anyhow, and they got over that one a-okay!

Certainly, cookies cured all. And with this in mind, he allowed Pyry to push him along, even clutching hold the other Pala's hands at one point, as a subconscious effort to gain a little bit of comfort on the way back to the kitchen. Cookies didn't void his guilt, after all; they just suppressed it for a little while.

There it was. She'd known it was coming, and now there it was, right there, the proof slapping in her the face in the form of cruel, icy rejection.

Yin had even feared Pyry would be quick to find a new Best Friend-- he certainly had an attractive personality-- but that didn't stop the painstaking, twisting feeling when he went and picked his new friend, her replacement, right in front of her. He didn't even offer a "goodbye" or a "you deserve this for getting me injured", nope; just a half-hearted glance her direction and off he went with a new Best Friend.

Life without Pyry would be difficult, indeed, but perhaps not quite impossible. Maybe she could-- no. Or perhaps-- nah. Maybe one day-- ...in a million years.

Life wouldn't be difficult. It would be sheer torture, every individual, waking minute spent facing monsters, all the while her thoughts taunting that there's no Pyry to protect you now! Hell, was that even worth enduring? Maybe she should just feed herself to the Golden Monster right now, and end it all. Maybe that was for the better.

...No, not maybe, it was. All she'd have to do is gain the courage to approach him; with nothing to live for, she realized, this wouldn't be too hard of a task at all. In fact, she only realized then that she'd already inched her way back downstairs, into the living room, while too drowned in her miserable thoughts to realize. Her heart jolted, a natural reaction, upon realizing it was right there, the Golden Monster, run for your life... but after the typical panic sequence ended, she found herself not running. 'Cuz it didn't matter.

All she could do was slump down on the carpet, a sad little lump of submission and hopelessness. As always, though, she silently wished that the Golden Monster would make it quick, please.

Dark Fire Angel
Cookies.

Cookies were the solution to everything. Pyry was quite sure they were the proverbial meaning to life (What was this nonsense about the number 42 being the meaning of life anyhow?), and so as they walked down the hall back to the kitchen, he squeezed Al's hand.

Everything was going to be just fine. But then again, had anyone known Pyry as well as Yin knew him, they'd have to note the fact he'd have thought everything would be just fine even while trapped in a sinking ship. Alas, the reassuring squeeze of Al's hand was there, offered as they entered the kitchen and swiftly set down to work once more; the sooner the finished these, the sooner they'd be able to fix things, obviously. They were careful not to rush things though, for the quality of their work would have to be top notch to gain the desired effects on both pala waiting in the living room.

Soon enough however, Pyry was able to clasp his hands together, squealing out a delighted chirp as everything slowly came together; it was DONE! And they were READY! Now they just needed to find Edward and Yin.

Edward on the other hand, wasn't having such an optimistic outlook on life; quite the contrary in fact. He found he couldn't even pick up his book to continue reading; it was beyond him. All he could concentrate on was the ticking of the nearby clock as it ticked seconds away into minutes.

Tick tock. Tick tock...

He was barely even aware of Yin presence till he turned his head in an attempt to look down the hallway where he knew Pyry and Edward were sitting together, probably having a good time. It was that last thought that made him blink, his gaze falling down on Yin whom sat dejectedly on the floor, looking much like her only reason to live had been swept away like the wind.

In other words, Edward was quite sure that at that very precise moment in time, both he and she looked just about the same; horribly upset. And it was also at that moment that Edward decided perhaps she wasn't nearly as bad as he'd thought her to be (specially now that she wasn't screaming her head off), "You've been ditched too?" he waited only for a moment before looking away, "Welcome to the club."

The underlying message was evident; Now we can just emo together.

Happy Tofu
Yin sniffled, trying with all her might to keep from crying again. (After all, that's what started this whole miserable despairing mess in the first place. ...Everything really was her fault.) She... kind of succeeded; instead of crying, her eyes simply remained suspended at maximum-saturation. Whenever a stray tear did dare to defy her will, Yin would simply brush it away quickly (and, hopefully, subtly) with yet another gigantic sniffle.

When she looked over to the monster, curious as to why he'd not yet eaten her, she was surprised to discover an expression that matched her own. Odd. She'd only ever seen one expression on this particular monster, and it certainly wasn't what she saw now. She almost, almost dared to ask why he looked so forlorn, but long before she'd mustered the courage to speak up, Ed did it first.

Ditched? That seemed to be putting it a little too mildly, she thought. She wanted to correct him, to explain no, I've been rejected, cast aside, left to become a snack for any wandering-- and without realizing, she began to mumble aloud-- "...monster... he probably wouldn't even notice I'd been eaten... maybe he'd be happy... dance..." her volume decreased as she continued, eventually silencing as she curled in on herself some more.

It was a long, long time later that her thoughts allowed her to re-consider what Edward had said. "...'too'?" She cocked her head to the side. "Someone rejected you, too?"

Pyry had mentioned today was a special day. It was only now she realized it must be "Break-A-Heart Day."

Alphonse had allowed his negative feelings to drift off as he worked, indulging himself in the cookie-decorating process as thoroughly as he would any science experiment. It worked, too; by the time the cookies had finished (and finished to be quite beautiful, if he dared say so himself) Al had almost entirely forgotten about the earlier "drama".

The two placed the cookies oh-so-carefully on the center of the table, setting up four Valentine's Day-themed place settings around them. As a final touch, Al pulled out from the refrigerator his Tira Misu and a jug of fresh lemonade, placed them both on the table, and nitpicked their precise positioning for much longer than he should have. Perfect, it had to be perfect.

But then, finally, finally, he deemed it ready for showing. Turning to Pyry with a proud grin, he gestured toward the hallway that connected the kitchen and the living room. The two Pala then ventured down it, and side-by-side, they entered the room.

"Hey, Nii-san, Yin~~ Pyry and I have something special to tell you~~"

DA Tofu!
Edward's sulk depended; it was his own personal way of showing he was displeased that SHE was displeased too. In other words, he was sorry for her. Misery really did liked company, he thought as he listened to her babble and explain (quite lamely) what the problem was; idly he figured she was referring to Pyry, whom was now with Alphonse, thus ditching and rejecting the two of them to this secluded area of the house to wallow in their pains and sorrow.

"He rejected me too," his eyes lifted from her and with a scowl he nodded down the hallway, "He's with your friend," and I feel like utter s**t, but i'm too proud to get off this sofa and go to apologise; not like I CAN since he BANNED me from that bloody KITCHEN.

Obviously Yin could not hear his thoughts, but she must've seen the way Edward pulled himself into a fetal position on the sofa, withdrawing himself further and further into the pillows and cushions, as if wishing the whole thing would swallow him up. There were just no excuses for him to make any more at this point and all he could do was wallow in self pity. It didn't help that 'The Nagging Voice' was laughing at him at the back of his mind.

There were times he wondered if he was just downright crazy.

Pyry was excited; extremely so! After all that work, it was finally done, and down, deep inside the bottom of his stomach, he knew he'd done the right thing. Everything would be perfect! Just perfect.

Not even the atmosphere of doom and gloom at seemed to hover over the living rooms changed his mind. In fact, after a moment or two of getting absolutely no response from either Edward or Yin, Pyry tilted his head and decided they both needed a hug. A great big bear hug. Both of them. But since his arms were small and they were surely going to need a hug at the same time, Pyry found he had to pick one of them to hug and ask Alphonse to hug the other.

This in mind, he leaned over towards his friend, whispered something into his ear and then walked forward, embracing Yin, making some sort of 'churring' sound in her ear; that strange sound somewhere between the purring of a kitten and the soothing murmuring he'd offer her when she rushed into his room in the dead of night due to a bad dream, "We made you cookies; we couldn't let you into the kitchen till the were ready. I made them just for you, Yin," he let go of her and took her hand, lifting her off the floor, "Because it's Valentine's day!"

And that's all he'd wanted to say all day long.

Quote:
(( [Slips directly into log 'cuz the sap is embarrassing on grotesque levels.] ))

Yin didn't know what Valentine's Day was, but she did know that cookies and hugs meant it had to be something pretty good. Well, unless the cookies were being poisoned by monsters right at this moment-- which they probably were-- so she'd have to be sure to test them before Pyry ate any. But besides that, hugs were always good, especially if it meant Pyry wasn't angry with her and he didn't hate her. This thought wasn't quite "good" as much as it was "heart-shatteringly relieving". She clung back, sniffling back tears-- this time happy ones-- not really able to form sentences yet (emotions were potent buggers), but capable of letting out a low whine that sounded oddly joyful. For Yin, anyway. And then, finally,

"...you don't hate me? Really?"

Doubt was the overriding emotion on Alphonse's face, both when Pyry addressed him and afterward, once he'd glanced over at his moping, angry mess of a brother. It was beginning to dawn on him that he'd underestimated just how much he'd hurt the elder Pala's feelings, and the thought of it was wrecking havoc on his conscious. Ed was angry, and he had every right to be. Cookies probably wouldn't even be able to solve this one. Not after the things he'd said.

It didn't quite help that Yin and Pyry had reconciled in record time; it was going to be pretty awkward once their attempted reconciliation ended with Ed throwing punches. Or insults. Or "I hate you please avoid me for the rest of my live, thanks." Or all three.

With extremely hesitant steps, his head swimming with these unhappy images, Al crept over to his brother like a guilty, cowardly little kitten that'd just clawed apart something it shouldn't have. "Uh, Nii-san? Um, we made some cookies, and there's... lemonade, an--" The sentence was never finished; the cracking voice he'd been struggling to use gave out, and he fell into silence. The tears came then, inevitably, and not even one full second passed before he'd launched himself onto Edward, arms thrown around his neck and his face shoved in the other Pala's chest. He began to babble incoherent apologies then, as well as other equally hopeless things, all of which were further distorted by the muffling, making them nearly impossible to make out.

Dark Fire Angel
No, Pyry in fact, did not hate her at all, and had he known that these were her thoughts at first, he would've been deeply confused. Of course he didn't hate her! Why would he? Was there anything in the world that Pyry hated anyhow?

Stroking her head, his gaze shifted to watch Alphonse approach his brother, his head moving slightly, almost as if silently urging the taller pala forward briefly before returning his attention to Yin, "Hate you? Of course I don't! Would I have made you cookies if I hated you?" he was almost tempted to add something along the lines of 'Wait, don't answer that' but instead merely smiled, "I like you very very much!" and this said, he took a cookie from the plate and offered it to her for eating.

Of course, he was Aware of the procedure she'd take (mainly snatching it from his hand to test it hadn't been poisoned while they weren't looking), alas, he was glad either way. He liked Yin just the way she was, paranoia included. Though now that he thought about others liking people just the way they were... his eyes strayed unconsciously towards both other palas.

At this point, Edward was paying little to no attention to his surroundings; he'd sunk himself down into his sofa as much as the pillows permitted, his arms crossed over his chest. He wore an expression of doom and gloom that would've turned any milk bitter, but anyhow, it wasn't like he was going to drink it, and milk issues aside, he had a reason to be so unhappy.

He'd been rejected.

And due to this, he was trying his damn hardest to ignore his brother as he approached him, talking some nonsense about cookies. It was getting rather difficult though, and by the time the taller pala broke down and flung himself at him, death grip hugging him, Edwards' defense broke down and he returned the death clinging with passion. No words were mentioned, because truthfully, he felt both too relieved, and too annoyed, and too happy and too angry and too everything to think much. Let alone talk.

So instead while still clinging to Alphonse, he reached with difficulty towards the plate of cookies and turned to stuff one into his brother's mouth; it was his own personal way of telling him it was alright. That he liked the cookies, and that he was forgiven, all without words. He then reached for a second cookie and made a great show of munching on it.

That was the day Edward discovered Valentine's day wasn't SO bad after all.

"A Meeting"

Silly Casual RP
Pages 2560 ~ 2564

~Sinecura~
Tobrial yawned slightly, enjoying the time she was spending with Susku. Even little Satu seemed like he'd make a splendid friend. Smiling sweetly, she grasped Susku's ear in her teeth and ever-so-gently tugged.

"Wanna play? Know any good games? What kind of games do you like?"

The little sea unicorn practically was dancing around her new friend, eager to enjoy the day.

Happy Tofu
Susku was having something of a good self-esteem day. In his own humble opinion, the simple fact that he had managed to befriend someone like Tobrial-- on his first real day spent in Elderspark, no less-- was damnably impressive. He felt quite pleased with both himself and the situation he found himself in; namely, spending time with a friend besides his house mates and the other Kyuria for the first time in... well, forever. Everyone was probably jealous of him right now. Hell, he was almost jealous of himself!

Yah, today was that good.

Registering her question, Susku snapped out of his thoughts (noticeably, even, making him look rather silly as he jerked a little, awkwardly attempting to cover up the fact his thoughts had gone wandering) and addressed Tobrial, "I know a few, I suppose... although a lot of them need snow." He thought; which non-winter games were there? "Um, there is this one... you pick a cloud, and try to puzzle out what it's shaped like. It used to get pretty competitive back when I played it with my old friends-- we'd fight over whose interpretation was better, and the usually the better arguer won."

Clearly, that was not the sort of thing she had in mind. Pity it was his only real suggestion. What could he say? His old friends were all guys, and arguing was a sport they excelled at.

~Sinecura~
Finding shapes in clouds? This was somethign Tobrial had never heard of before! She didn't quite understand why arguing had to go along with it, but perhaps that part of the game could be avoided?

"Finding cloud shapes sounds fun! I would really like to try it. Please?"

Tobrial had one skill fimrly lodged in her mtaphorical belt. He knew when and how to use doe yes for maximum effect and had no qualms about doing so now.

Happy Tofu
(( [Wonders if Kyun even can lay on their backs??] @@;;; ))

"...really!?" Truth be told, it was one of his favorite past times. Except for, "...could we not argue though? I'm really not very good at it, and I always used to lose." He pouted, remembering back to the gloating faces of his fellow Kyuria buddies upon arguing him to an incomprehensible stutter. Once they managed that, he couldn't even form words, let alone defensive explanations as to why he saw a cloud the way he did.

Still, Tobrial was a very nice Kyunru; she couldn't possibly be that mean. With this chipper thought in mind, Susku laid down on his back-- instructing Tobrial to do the same-- and gestured upward. He attempted to keep the excitement from his voice (as excitement wasn't stoic, and stoic was manly), though he failed. "Okay, okay, see that one right above me? Don't you think it looks like an Azelde?"

~Sinecura~
"Really and truly!" Tobrial churred happily. "And I was hoping that you wouldn't want to do the arguing part!"

Following his lead, she very carefully rolled to her back, arranging her wings oh-so-daintily to avoid hurting them. Once she was reasonably comfortable, she followed Susku's paw and stared hard at the cloud. After a moment, a bright smile appeared on her face and she giggled.

"I see it! I see it!" she called. Almost immediately, she stuck her own paw out and pointed at a different cloud. "Look at that one! Don't you think it looks like a butterfly?"

Happy Tofu
She agreed with him!? Oh, this was infinitely better than what he was used to. Conflict was such a killjoy.

"Yah, yah, it does! Flying off east, right? It even has the little antennae." He traced them with his forepaw. "And that one, right there? It looks... like a bowl of muffins, still steaming 'cuz they're so fresh. See? You just gotta look at it at... this angle." He explained this as he twisted around awkwardly on the ground, rotating himself until the image in the cloud was right side up; having no real wings or delicate appendages on his back, this was easy enough to do. Susku was even too engrossed in his cloud-gazing to notice that his head had ended up pressed right against her's, albeit upside-down.

~Sinecura~
Narrowing her eyes and twisting her head slightly, the sea unicorn smiled as she finally saw it.

"Oh yes! I see it! Look at tht right right above," she chirruped as her paw thrust straight out "It looks like you! But not quite as nice as you look, so we can call it one of your friends, yes?"

Tobrial snuggled down into the ground, moving her head just enough to give Susku an awkward, semi-nuzzle.

"I like this game."

Happy Tofu
Susku frowned up at the cloud, raising a paw and shaking it angrily. "Yah, and as much as you'd like to argue that you look like a cow or something else, you can't, 'cuz you can't talk, 'cuz you're a cloud, so HA HA HA!"

Wait, what? What was that just then? Susku actually had the nerve to look around a little, confused as all hell. Did Tobrial do that? Was it a bug? What just happened?!!?

...

Oh. It finally dawned on him-- Tobrial did do it, as a gesture of friendship-- at which point he stopped glancing around and curled in on himself a little, closing his eyes as if to block out visions in his mind of how utterly ridiculous he must seem to her right now. It didn't work, of course. Best ignore it, then-- perhaps she hadn't realized his panicked reaction was to her nuzzle? Hey, he could hope.

"....I um, I like it too." Especially when I'm playing it with the right friend.

~Sinecura~
Tobrial turned slightly as Susku jumped, thinking that perhaps a bee or something had attacked him.

"Are you all right? Did a bee sting you?"

Radiating concern, she rolled to her side and stared down at him. Taking a risk, she bowed her head down and gave him a light kiss on the cheek.

"I can look for the stinger if you want and try to get it out?"

Happy Tofu
"I-- you-- um--" Having her that close to his face, having her kiss his cheek-- these were very, very dangerous things to have happen to him. He was already acting unimpressive; the last thing he needed was for his train of thought to ride off to laa laa land. He had a girl to impress here!

Granted, his solution to this problem didn't really help matters any. In fact, it wouldn't take much of an argument to prove he'd only made them worse. Susku scrabbled to his feet, clumsily and without warning, and practically leaped away from her, putting a good foot of distance between them. He was now looking back at her-- panicked and nervous-- as though she'd stung him.

"...Uh, no, that's fine, I'm fine, a bee didn't sting me. I just got a little pretty blue hair-- er, startled. By um, your ki--uh, that is to say... by the... the clouds!!"

By the end of this disaster of a sentence, Susku looked as though he might just start to cry. Why did he have to be so uncool? There was no way Tobrial would want to have anything to with him, now that she knew his true color: lameness.

~Sinecura~
Looking startled and more than a little hurt by Susku's abrupt escape, Tobrial got to her feet and slowly moved closer. Susku looked so upset! Surely it was due to somethign she'd said ro done wrong!

"Susku, I am really, really orry if I made you upset. I honestly wasn't trying to..."

Before she could apologize further for what was so obviously her fault, two huge tears leaked from her eyes as she stared helplessly as the surely justifiably offeneded Susku.

Happy Tofu
It dawned on Susku, then, that he probably wasn't ready for this "girl" buisness. He was used to sarcasm and insults... certainly not crying, though. Was she crying because he turned out to be a dissapointment, less than she'd hoped at first? Or had he offended her?

What do you do when someone cries, anyway?

"Uh, uh, uh, no, why would you be sorry?! You didn't do anything at all, I swear!" He let out a low whine, darting back and forth in front of her, panicked yet again. "Please stop crying! I'm sorry I made you cry, I really am! I can make it up to you!" Actually, he really couldn't. "...well maybe I can't, but I would if I could!"

He waited for more eloquent words to come out-- something comforting and assuring. Instead, he finally just went with yet another, "...I'm sorry?" As an ammendment to that, he slowly crept forward and gave her a soft, hestitant little nuzzle. She'd seemed to like it earlier, after all.

~Sinecura~
"But.. but. I made you jump up and run away," Tobrial whimpered softly. "I thought i made you mad at me..."

In all honesty, Tobrial was more than a little overwhelmed by Susku's words and actions at this point. He wasn't upset with her, but somethign had still very obviously upset him. Sniffling, she tried to will the tears to stop since it seemed to distress him so.

Tobrial did blink as Susku gave her a nuzzle, then smiled slowly.

"Does that means we can still be friends? I really want to be friends with you, Susku. I like you," she stated simply before giving the male a nuzzle back.

Happy Tofu
There was clearly something wrong with Tobrial... and by wrong, he meant wonderful. He didn't really understand how anyone could be so... for lack of a less stereotypical word, angelic and kindly. He was flattered by this, of course, but also a little off-put; it was awkward being with a Kyunru you knew was way, way above your level.

"Why wouldn't we? I mean... well. I'd certainly have no reason to avoid you. I could see if you thought I was a little, uh, well, you know... ...but I mean... if you don't think that, then... I'm really, really flattered."

"And here we go Again"

Thread Rp
Starts pg 2589, End ???

Paperghost
With a huff, Twilight flomped on top of the counter at the front of the store. It had been a fairly busy day, what with people coming to and fro, purchasing this and that for their loved ones.

Hmph. She really didn't see what the big deal was. It was just a day, like any other. The sky didn't turn pink and start raining be-ribboned kittens, but with the way people were acting you'd never know.

She was tired. Of course, she really hadn't done much work. Imriel and the rest of the staff had done all the customer interaction, but Twilight had no place to laze all day. The attic was hardly acceptable.

So~ Here she was, lazing in earnest to make up for lost time.

kalindara
Kyuubi had just been stalking past, growling under his breath as he fought the urge to scratch at the damn rope seal around his neck. There must be a way to remove it somewhere, hence his constant exploring and moving around. The fact that he didn't much like others factored into it, too.

So he'd just been passing by what looked to be human establishment, grounds for ignoring it completely, when he scented one of the Kin. Another Kyunru, if he wasn't mistaken, as it lacked the faint otherness of the birdfolk or tiny midgets.

Pausing, Kyuubi sat and considered being social, tails waving in the breeze as he thought. Well, it couldn't hurt. At best, maybe they might be intelligent and know of a way to break seals (aaaah, the thought of being at full power!), and at worst, he'd just do some more intimidating. There was no real loss.

Decision made, Kyuubi stalked over, his fiery aura playing up slightly. Why is one of our kind so at home in a human place? he asked the dark blue kyunru.

Dark Fire Angel
Hong was... well, truth be told, Hong was slightly upset. It showed in the way she carried herself through the Elderspark terrain, her hooves moving over the grass; her head was lowered, her eyes heavy lidded as she moved. Theactual date had little to do with the fact she was upset; rather, it was the idea both her brothers were out on a 'date' per se (even if neither would actualy vocaly admit to this - one had claimed a study session, the other ... well she wasn't sure what he'd claimed. He'd mumbled and rushed out), while she remain rather alone.

Her shy nature had forced her into seclusion, up to a point, th unicorn realised, that she didn't know ANYONE except her own family. Thus was why on a spurt of self induced bravery, she'd decided to take the walk to Elderspark, in hopes of meeting new friends (hopefuly of her smae species, and hopefuly that wouldn't scare her half to death, her mind noted). Shoving the door open with her maw, the femme peeked into the shop; the only one she noticed upon entry, however, was a night hued female, laying on the counter.

She didn't LOOK like she wanted to make friends, but Hong was determined to not chicken out this once, and slowly she made her way towards Twilight, her wings spreading to allow her to land on the counter, a bit away from her hopefuly-friend-to-be, "Hello there? You seem.... bothered?" It was only then that she noticed the other one that had been lurking the shop; she was unsure how she'd missed such an individual, but she had.

Instantly her mind made the note; Scary. Scary kyunru.

The reaction was instant, her ears dropped an inch, her tail curling around her body as if a means to protect herself, "Good morning to you too..." she had learnt to talk verbally quite a while ago, having taken up recidence with both Gabriel and Fafnir, whom were used to it.

Paperghost
Twilight, her nose resting comfortably on her paws, peered with mild interest at the new arrivals. It'd been a while since she'd actually interacted with her own kind... mostly she tried to avoid them. She wasn't quite sure why.

At this particular moment, however, she was far too lethargic to make an effor to remove herself from their company. And anyway, they seemed interesting enough.

Hello she thought to both of them. Her eyes rested on the very brightly colored unicorn kyunru.

"Bothered.. maybe a little," she purred out loud. "It's been a long day. All this chocolate and candy being tossed about and none of it for me." The lunar kin wrinkled her small nose. "You look a little upset yourself."

As she said these things she thought to Kyuubi, Human place? No, you misunderstand. This is -my- place. The humans only stay here because I let them. There wasn't much in her manner to indicate whether Twilight was making a joke or was being serious.

[Only sorta... not on hiatus XD w00t. marvel at my slow RP skillzz]

kalindara
Your place? Kyuubi looked around sceptically. It reeks of human. You must be very tolerant to put up with them.

Housebred pet, he thought to himself in the meantime. The store was human-sized and filled with human-sized, human things. It was NOT a place of Kin.

Stalking over to the scared pink one, he sniffed at her. At least your scent is of our kind, he conceeded. Though your fear almost covers it. He let his jaw drop to reveal his teeth, waving his tails out around him, fiery aura on display.

Aaaaah, the sweet smell of intimidation in the morning...

Dark Fire Angel
((BTW excuse typos XD this computer has no spell check))

Her ears dropped lower if at all posible, her tail twitching nervously from one side over her hooves to the other as the strange male approached. She wasn't intimadated, oh no; she was downright terrified, that's what she was, and that much was clearly noticeable by the way she took a step back, having to pause in order to not fall from the counter. Of course I'm Your Kind, his words caused her to frown; the irritation at such an acussition allowing her to overcome her fear as she stepped forward again, her front hooves hitting the table with force between them.

The bravery lasted for near two seconds before she backed down again, noticing the mark she'd left on the counter, "Oh my... I'm sorry..." she turned to Twilight, "I ruined your counter..." she'd not heard her words to Kyuubi, but somehow the fact she was idly sitting there as if she owned the place was enough to make it hers, within Hong's mind.

Right now the unicorn seemed to be rocking between upset, afraid and perhaps slightly interested as she reagrded the other two, "Yes well...I'm not feeling too great; my brothers are out having fun, while I'm very much alone," a pause, "And a bit of chocolate coming my way wouldn't have been a bad thing either; at least that makes two of us chocolate-less," it was the lack of company that bothered her most however.

Alas.

Paperghost
[[@w@ *paaaaws at kali* ... XD hahaha... The roomates are playing with the computers and stuff... and they totally unplugged mine in the middle of my post :'/ After a little yelling and flailing I managed to piece my post back together.]]

Slowly, Twilight lifted her head from her paws, as if the motion were important in some small way. She shuffled her wings slightly at Kyuubi's comment.

"I suppose you could look at it that way," she said out loud, her ears flicking sideways as Hong hit the counter with her hooves. "The owner happens to be Ieldi," she added. "Besides, I stay here because, for some reason or another, they always wander here." She gave them both a meaningful look. "And by They, I mean Us."

After a moment, she sighed. "I don't know why I bother. We are a dieing breed after all."

With that last comment hanging in the air, Twilight suddenly smiled rather warmly. "Don't worry about the counter.. The Little Ones do worse on a daily basis. I'm Twilight by the way, it's a pleasure to meet you both." Her sudden shift from melancholy to welcoming seemed a natural transition to her.

kalindara
A few of his tail twitched involuntarily when the blue lady mentioned that an Ieldi ran this place. Padding around the store, Kyuubi sniffed in every nook and crany. A LOT of human stench. But, underneath it all, a very slight touch of windswept feathers that signalled Ieldi to his nose.

It's just you and the Ieldi bringing Kin here, not the shop itself, he looked at the two ladies over his shoulder. Like me, here because I could smell you.

Returning to the other Kin, he sat on his haunches and wrapped his tails around his paws. Now that he wasn't in a den of Human Filfth he could relax enough to study these other kyunru. I suppose introductions are in order, he said. I am Kyuubi.

The tails flared out dramatically before curling around his paws once again. Never let it be said this kyun didn't have a flair for the theatrical.

"Forced Socialization"

Happy Tofu
(( This isn't really split into an Al part and a Yin part, so I totally BS'd the coloring. 8D ))

[ image snip ] [ image snip ]

Life is a series of little events; little actions, little changes, things that tend to go unnoticed until something larger, built up by all the little things, occurs, bringing them to attention.

Such was the pseudo-friendship shared by Edward and Yin. Nobody had really noticed the change; it was minute, and despite living in the same house, they rarely saw one another. It was easy to miss the lack of fearful shaking from Yin, even as they sat together that Valentine's evening, eating cookies and drinking lemonade. It was just as easy to miss how Edward, usually quick to terrify annoying distractions, let many of her panic attacks slide these days.

It was impossible, however, to miss when Yin visibly jumped away from Alphonse, petrified, while then actually waving a shy little greeting to Edward. It was equally unlikely that Edward's expressions-- bitterly sour toward Pyry and relatively kindly toward Yin-- would go unnoticed. As was the case, in both aspects, the morning when their awkward friendship became obvious to Pyry and Alphonse.

Yin's evasiveness toward... well, everyone... was something Alphonse had come to accept long ago, albeit begrudgingly. It hurt his feelings something terrible whenever she'd treat him like a monster, but he always put his own feelings after those of others; in this case, if avoiding Yin kept her (relatively) content, he could make that sacrifice. Not that it still didn't hurt, even with the guilty comfort he took in knowing she reacted just the same way around Edward.

Needless to say, Al failed to notice just how much of this comfort spawned directly from her unbiased fear until Yin actually stopped fearing Edward. Not to say he didn't love his brother-- he did-- but deep down in that reserve of knowledge he'd never, ever voice was the simple fact that Edward was a scary individual, and if something could befriend him, it could certainly befriend Al too. This was something he brought to Pyry's attention, unsurprised to find the other Pala had similar grievances regarding the fact that Edward was so kindly to Yin and utterly not-so to Pyry. If Yin and Ed had bonded, the impossible had already happened. Moving it a step further, so they could all be a group of friends, should be relatively simple in comparison.

Or so it seemed to Al and Pyry.

They'd set this up in hopes of achieving just that. The four sat in the center of the living room, surrounding a Monopoly board clearly in later stages of play. Pyry was having the time of his life, despite being third-to-last: to him, the fun was in bringing joy to others by way of giving them money, so he spent as much time as he could landing on properties owned by the other three. Yin was in second, but with no hopes of actually winning: she had decided, early into the game, the board was far to unpredictably dangerous and thus, the only safe place to be was in jail, which she'd remained in for the majority of her turns. Edward was in dead last; his strategy had been to compulsively buy every damn thing he landed on, leaving him broke, and later, in debt. He was also the banker, something the others later realized was a bad idea; uncountable times he'd been caught trying to slip some of the fake money into his own personal stash.

Alphonse was winning, hands-down, no competition. He wasn't afraid of the board, he didn't have a vendetta against anyone, and he realized that as fun as it was to give away money, it was not the point of the game. As soon as he realized he was winning, though, he'd gotten extremely upset and began to play poorly in hopes of reversing this. As he did now. It was his turn; he'd landed on a Chance space only to get stuck with the card 'You've been elected mayor of the city; collect $50 from every player.' He could feel his face fall-- Ed didn't even have $50-- but that didn't stop him from looking them all in their collective eyes and lying through his teeth, "Um, this says I need to give you all $50, so..."

Al began to dish out the money, silently praying nobody would second guess it. He really, really didn't want to win.

Dark Fire Angel
Edward had soon enough discovered that Monopoly wasn't easy as he had predicted it would be; it was, in fact, an exceedingly difficult game, he decided. Not to mention that due to the fact the others had caught him robbing the bank (He liked looking at it as asking for a loan he wasn't planning on paying back), he'd noticed that cheating his way into a win simply... wasn't going to cut it.

Thus he frowned.

He frowned long and hard as he stared at his cards; they weren't being of much help, and snatching up Pyry's cards (as much as the cheerful blue pala would've happily handed them over) was apparently 'not allowed' as Alphonse had promptly pointed out, "Well, this sucks," it wasn't an opinion; in fact, as far as Edward was concerned, it was a blunt statement. A truth that no other could possible counter, but to add insult to injury, the others seemed to ignore his small outburst, probably tired of having heard this proclaim for the 50 million-th time since they'd started and it was clear Ed'd been losing. By far.

Mumbling to himself, he silently pondered what his chances of throwing the dice and not receiving his brothers scowl were. Pretty slim, he figured as he took the dice, rolled and moved, soon enough distracted away from the game, enough that he'd not enough noticed Pyry slipping him some money.

Not like he'd have thanked the blue pala anyhow, for it took an unbelievable amount of time (or maybe just a simple course of events), to get Edward's approval. It'd been a miracle that yin had achieved this, and though the blond pala knew he'd started to tolerate her to the point of looming behind her if someone frightened her, he'd have denied it to the very death of him.

Pyry was an entirely diferent story however, for some reason or another; had the dragon-tailed pala been standing in the middle of his path, Edward would've had no remorse in kicking him out of the way and continue walking. This had, of course, not gone unnoticed by his brother, and he phantomed this was the reason they were sitting around this stupid board game, losing precious time they could be using to study. Such a simple fact added to Edward's rather open dislike for Pyry.

The blue pala on the other hand though quite aware of this dislike, seemed to do everything in his hands to win Edward's approval. With little to no success; he'd talked to Alphonse, because truthfully, he could not understand how two creatures like Ed and Yin were able to get along together in silent .... agreement, while they seemed to repel both Illunans. It was frustrating in the same way it was frustrating when a small baby rabbit stood just barely out of your reach and you could not cuddle it, or so thought Pyry as he rolled the dice.

Life is all about enjoying every moment to the fullest; fresh air, warm beaches, loud music, dancing... that is the very purpose of existing. And for Mansi, anything remotely short of that constitutes time not just wasted, but murdered, stabbed in the back and buried, gone forever and without meaning. And so, naturally, when she stumbled sleepily into the living room-- groggy from having just woken, but already eager to bust out the margaritas-- to find four of her housemates tormenting themselves by sitting around playing a freaking board game... well, she had to act. Immediately. And not for herself, no, (...though she was rather bored, and where's fun without a crowd?) but for their own sakes.

"...HONG!" For a relatively small Kyunru, Mansi certainly had a skill for bellowing up stairways, "We're in need of some intervention down here, stat!" Then, turning to the four in an exaggerated motion, paw pointed straight at them, "You all will be spending today with me, mmkay?"

Yin, to the surprise of absolutely no one, wailed out her displeasure upon the arrival of the Eye Torture Monster, wasting no time in diving behind Pyry and shaking her head in a firm, frantic gesture of "NO".

Dark Fire Angel
"...HONG!"

The sound of hooves, a skid and seconds later, a crash, followed Mansi's call before the pink hued kyunru ran into the living room; she looked near tears, flowers over her mane, braid and body, water splashed over her form from the vase she'd managed to topple onto herself on her way there, "What? What?!" she looked near frantic as she looked about, trying to pinpoint what had been so important that needed her immediate attention. After all, being prey, and a horse at that, could do that to you.

Never did Hong recall she was in fact a unicorn, and a kyunru, at that, and not a mere horse prey species. Alas, she seemed relatively happy the way she was, "Where's the fire? It's in the kitchen, isn't it?! I told you that making those margaritas was a bad idea!" however, she found no fire, instead noticing where her new friend's attention had fallen; upon the pala, "I don't get it?" lowering her maw, the unicorn sniffled lightly at Alphonse's head, ruffling his hair, "They don't seem to be big enough to eat us; they don't pose a threat... why are we here?" she turned her head and different her sniffing routine at Edward, whom would of course have none of it.

After glowering, he smacked the pink nose rather shamelessly, standing his feet with his hands at his hips, "Don't touch me! Sniffing people is RUDE, and YOU," he turned to aim a finger at Mansi, "Ordering people about is also bloody rude! Not to mention the fact you've interrupted a carefully crafted experiment we were undertaking!" plus, they were scaring Yin, and a scared Yin meant screams. Edward did not want that, "We will NOT spend the day with you just because you say so! We have important things to do!"

Recoiling with a gasp and a skid, the unicorn swiftly took her place behind the brightly colored body of her friend, lifting her head to whisper into her ear, "Okay, maybe that one does pose a threat; but maybe we should leave it alone... walk away; don't run. Predators smell fear..." her front hoof reached up to rub at her nose, where she'd been smacked.

Instantly, Pyry took his position of 'Great defender', shielding the purple pala with his body as he watched the interaction that displayed itself in front of his eyes; he soon enough decided that Edward needed some tact... and that perhaps this new colorful kyunru would feel inclined to teach it to him. After all, if there was something Pyry knew, it was that you had to treat others like you wanted them to treat you back. Slowly turning his head towards Al, he arched a brow, still patting Yin's head and back awkwardly.

Hell was going to break lose.

Happy Tofu
Alphonse met Pyry's gaze, all confusion and a lack of understanding. What in the world was wrong with making new friends, with going out on adventures to meet even more? The idea was certainly appealing to him, much more than sitting around all day feeling guilty over a board game. It was frustrating and rather irritating that his brother found it so vital to reject, often with physical violence, every one of these offers of friendships as they came along. To the point, even, where Al found himself wanting little more than to clock Ed in retaliation. Thankfully, though-- or perhaps extremely unfortunately-- Mansi beat him to it.

Mansi made an enormous production out of stomping over to Edward, all towering Kyunru might and a scowl to match that of the little Pala's. "Have you ever been told that you lack a hell of a lot more than just height, you little twerp? For example, manners? Well, if not, you're hearing it now, from me, and I'm even tossing in a free lesson of how to remedy that most grievous flaw." Mansi then snatched up the hoodie of Ed's coat in her mouth, picked him right off his spot on the floor non-too-gently, and carried him, dangling, over to the nervous Hong. She was careful to keep him both high off the carpet and a good distance from her friend, lest he throw another temper tantrum. "Noh aporoghissh."

Dark Fire Angel
Amusingly enough, and despite the fact Mansi was positively huge compared to the the blond pala, Edward did not back down; instead, he stood up as tall as he could manage (which was not all that tall, might one add) and scowled with enough force to turn milk sour on one go. This, however, did not seem to impress the kyunru; not even when the small pala placed his arms ajar and growled deep down in his chest did the larger animal back off. In fact, Mansi was merely encouraged by this display. It wasn't till she mentioned his obvious lack of height that the pala gaped widely, looking torn between simply launching himself at the kyun's face to BITE her nose and teach her just-who-the-bloody-hell-is-so-small-he-needs-a-stool-to-reach-the-cookie-jar and simply staying put in an attempt to figure out a strategy.

The former seemed to be winning as seconds passed by and the pala closed his fists with such force his nails were biting into his skin; tell truth, his brain was no longer registering words. He'd stopped listening 'round about the time Mansi had mentioned 'Height' and 'Twerp'. Thankfully for all the attendants, Mansi swiftly reached for Edward's hood, knocking him off balance and holding him up in the air, much like a mother would it's cub, "PUT ME THE BLOODY FREAKING HELL DOWN YOU EYE-SORE MORON!" flailing, Edward found he could nothing at all, he could not reach his 'attacker' nor could he get down. And she was drooling on his favorite coat.

Thus all options killed and buried, the pala hissed like a wet cat, flattened his ears against the back of his head, crossed his arms over his chest, coiled his body up like a cub and made sure to put on his deepest, most sour scowl. He also made sure to make note of NOT learning ANY-BLOODY-THING this creature was attempting to 'teach' him. Instead of apologising however, he merely narrowed his eyes and flattened his ears further till his body was seething.

Now, Hong was usually willing to make friends (So long it was clear the other was not there to harm her or eat her in any way) however, the small kitten-thing-bird? (It had wings) that her friend had brought up to her, seemed anything BUT friend-material. As it flattened it's ears back, the unicorn recoiled herself back and looked over Mansi's shoulder, "Won't the others get mad you stole their cub?"

"WHO THE HELL IS SO SMALL CUBS CAN TOWER OVER HIM?!"

Gasping at the outburst, Hong swiftly mode another step back, then frowned, seemingly confused, "....I didn't say that," a pause as she looked up at her friend, "Uhm, I didn't, did I?" she seemed almost confused for a moment before arching a brow, "I... think you should put it back, Mansi, goodness knows where it's been, and you're carrying it in your mouth," eyeing the other pala, whom seemed, for the most part, content with merely watching, Hong lowered her head submissively.

Nerpin
Another day had passed since the purebred fire had come home back to where he was born. Red eyes stared around the assumingly empty area, glowing pupils burning brightly. It was far too quiet for the everburning fireball, and so, taking a few more steps, he curled up under a tree, curling his firetail around him once, the burning mass settling and crackling sotfly.

Giving a huff, he fell back into his mind once more; something he did oft' when he was by himself, long before.

Happy Tofu
Mansi peered down at the Kyun resting below her as she crept, slowly and as silently as possible, down the trunk of the tree she'd spent the better part of the morning inhabiting. She pondered how, exactly, she should go about destroying his peace-- or, rather, making her wondrous entrance-- and eventually decided... it really didn't matter. Whatever she did, it would end up flashy and awesome, just like her.

And so, Mansi wedged herself on a low branch, using all but one of her legs as support, and swung down with every intention of startling the purebreed. Instead, she discovered her own inability to properly calculate physics as, moments later, she found herself crashing down directly on top of her would-be prey.

"...Uh, ...HOI there!"

Dark Fire Angel
Passing unnoticed was an art. In fact, it was an art Hong wished she could master, however, her pelt made it practically impossible; she stood out like a fly swimming in milk. This bothered her at times, for after all, what good can come from prey species that can NOT hide? Thus instead of training herself in such an art, she trained herself in being fast; she'd found that having four hooves, she was quite fast indeed! Specially when something was chasing her, alas, 90% of the time, the unicorn lacked the grace her species should naturally posses, and would often times trip over her own braid, landing in a mess of pink, wings and legs.

Such was what seemed to happen within moments of noticing both Soala and Mansi; the mere sight of her flashy friend made the kyunru squeal (Mansi was, after all, as of today, the only kyunru that hadn't snapped, tried to eat her, or scared the hell out of her). The result was that Hong managed to somehow .... not time her steps as she ran, her legs suddenly getting tired with her long braid, and thus physics forced down to the floor, rolling till she came to a complete stop inches away from both fire elemental and feral kyun, "Hi?" it was said feebly after a long pause, her legs tugging to get lose. It was a good thing she wasn't all that preoccupied with making a big entrance or making a good impression on others.

"Kyun Eggs!!"

Dark Fire Angel
[ image snip ]

Edward had long since decided that quiet observation was just as interesting as books. He usually didn't even have to get up or do anything to make things happen; in fact, things happened around the house without so much as little provocation. He figured it had to do with the fact several beings whose personalities clashed were being forced to live together under the same ceiling. Something about that caused chaos; so thus, when he was bored, all he needed to do was sit down quietly on the living room floor and wait. And watch.

Something or other usually ended up happening, and if nothing did happen, the pala was always swift to make that something happen. As it was, today seemed to have favoured him, for when he'd reached the living room, there were already two other inhabitants there; one he recognised as Susku, whom was... not the brightest star in the heavens, to put it lightly, even despite his brightly colored fluffy pelt. The other, he didn't quite recognise; she was new. But it didn't matter, because Edward had noticed instantly that these two beings clashed.

Now all he needed to do was sit and wait. Which is exactly what he did; he sat down on the carpet, watching Susku intently till he noticed another amusing developpement. Susku was laying down beside 3 little eggs; a brightly blue colored one, a spotted one, and a rather bubbly looking one. Arching a brow, the young pala tried to calculate what his chances of snatching an egg and carrying it off to the kitchen were. He figured he needed to wait for his chance; screw waiting for something to happen! Eating was a better ideas.

So thus, now the blond pala sat and stared hungrily at all three eggs, a small drop of drool rolling down the side of his chin, which he promptly brushed off. So agitated was he that his tail feathers twitched and quivered, his wings in tension; he rather much resembled a stalking feline.

A chuckle rang from the other side of the room as Lamia paused her careful grooming to look up; she'd been bored till right about now, actually, for just like Edward had noticed he only needed to sit down and wait for things to happen... so had Lamia, "My, my, Susku... I think that little critter's interested in your brood and your charges..." she drawled out that one word, with a hint of malice, but taking into account the kyuria's innocent nature, she doubted he'd get it. Instead of explaining further, she lifted her slim frame off the floor and moved to lay herself down beside the father.

Despite the situation being amusing, it wasn't in her best interest if the eggs were digested before they even cracked; whom was she going to tell ghost stories and scare shitless, if there were no baby kyunrus, after all? Arching a brow, she gazed at the pala, whom glared right back, still looking like a tiger about to pounce. The dark creature's presence (perhaps the horns) had made Edward hesitate however, if only slightly; it would have been more scary if a different, brightly colored kyunru were to have made an appearance however.

Edward shuddered and glowered at the thought. If he ever saw her again, he was running straight for the hills.

Susku was oblivious, both to Lamia's less-than-friendly intentions and to Edward's presence all together. He was much too preoccupied-- not necessarily that he'd have noticed either thing anyway-- with his three little charges. Curled around them, he'd spent the better part of the day entertaining them with carefully-constructed stories (morals had to be taught young!) and, an hour earlier, a few lullabies upon the realization it was very much time for their naps.

Lamia had become great company since then, or so Susku thought, and as such, he was certainly not abject to further company. As soon as she directed his attention to the little Pala, his expression noticeably lit up. "Oh, hullo there, E..."-- he mumbled off into silence, not remembering the Pala's name precisely but not wanting this to be obvious to the others-- "...did you want to come meet the new babies?? They've been really well behaved today; I'm surprised!" Upon further inspection, it would become obvious that Susku didn't quite understand the concept that the Kyunru young hadn't yet hatched.

Dark Fire Angel
Lamia had to keep herself from snorting; it was taking most of her willpower to keep herself from rolling her eyes too, for the further time she spent with Susku, the more she wondered just HOW his mate was. Whom mated with ... someone like Susku? It didn't fit within her dark, dark mind, however, that wasn't the question right now, "Edward, Susku," the words were breathed into the Kyuria's ear as the female leaned in, only to pull out, arching a brow.

The moment she'd arrived to this lunatic asylum, she'd made damn sure she knew, and figured out the inhabitants (after all, there was power in knowledge, and where she didn't posses the physical strength, she possessed the cunning). Most were easily shoved into distinct squares; Pyry was innocent, Yin was scared, Susku was dumb and Edward... was Edward. There was no other way for her to describe it. He was mean, but lacked malice; Lamia was sure he wasn't even aware his actions caused pain to others 80% of the time, specially not those he loved.

It came with being stubborn, she figured, "Thankfully for you, the kids will remain quite well behaved for quite some time still," a pause as her red hued gaze slid towards Edward whom was taking his time to leer the eggs, "Just wait till the little furballs wake up though... if they ever wake up," a snort followed, "Seems there's more dangers in this house than I predicted," slyly lifting her left front paw, she began her careful grooming again.

Taking a note to ignore the strange black creature perched behind Susku, Edward kept on leering the eggs, lifting his gaze with a smile at the kyuria, "May I hold one?" he tried to inject sweetness into his voice, but failed, the sound coming out false, as if he were hiding something. The fact the drool was starting to cascade down his chin again must've not been helping either. Despite this, he still reached out in a grabby-paw motion at the eggs.

Happy Tofu
Lamia sure was nice! She had the makings great, long-term friend, even if she suffered from being... well... not quite the brightest crayon in the box, so to speak. Everyone needed a little help once in a while, though, and with this in mind, Susku veeeery gently explained to her, "They'll wake up, don't worry. You see, the babies were inside their mothers for a very, very long time, and things were so noisy around here that they never got any sleep." He said all this as though explaining it to a very young child, "They're making up for that now with a niiiice, long nap. But once they've rested up, I bet you won't be able to stop them from climbing all over you, their very own Auntie Lami!" He patted his own egg, the bubbly one, as an afterthought, and smiled up at Lami. He couldn't hold it against her for knowing nothing about babies; it was obvious she had none of her own yet.

[ image snip ]

Alphonse burst into the living room just as Edward was reaching for the egg, and upon seeing him, Al burst into a smile and sped over. "Jeeez, Nii-san, I've been looking everywhere for you. I'm sorry I didn't come back down when I said I would, but I started organizing my stuff and it was just so fun, I really couldn't stop, so I cleaned everything and then I went and cleaned your room too and you really ought to sort your books more often because let me tell you, they were a mess and I think I'll make us some fish sticks for lunch and OH MY GOD IS THAT A KYUNRU EGG!?!" Squealing, he learned forward and snatched-- with no small about of gentleness and care-- the egg Ed had stopped grabbing for mid-motion. He cradled it in his arms and, clearly, were he not holding such a gentle treasure, Al would have been bouncing clear across the room in excitement. "I'd heard there were some new baby Kyunru coming, but I didn't know if the eggs had been laid yet! Oh, it's so pretty, I bet it'll be the cutest little baby Kyunru ever!! I can't wait to see them--" He then noticed the two Kyunru and turned to address them, without so much as a breath for pause, "...are these YOUR eggs? I hope you don't mind me holding this one, I promise to be gentle, and by the way, would you maybe let me Kyunru-sit for you guys in the future???" At this point he was directly addressing Lamia; the mother tended to be the overbearing one in regards to children, after all.

Dark Fire Angel
Now, had Lamia not learnt that patience was needed to accomplish goals of worth, she would have probably snarled, hissed and left. However, as it was, she forced herself to smile at Susku; it was a ghost of a smile, looking almost shy due to her small slim features, however, in reality it was just a smile she was having trouble holding, "True, dear, you're quite right I'm sure," she refrained from explaining just how 'egg hatching' worked, and drawling out if he was looking for them to hatch bloody early. Instead, she lowered her paws from her grooming session and tucked them under her belly fluff in an attempt to keep herself composed and cool.

There was nothing she could do to keep herself from wincing visibly however, as soon as the kyuria voiced 'Auntie Lami' out loud. The wince was followed by a clear grimace, that seemed hint pain; as if the mere words were painful to hear, as well as bitter. Recomposing herself, she allowed her eyes to glide over to the father, a flat look and an arched brow trying to hint at him over just what she thought of such a nickname. In fact, she was just about to voice such thoughts when a second pala, (Alphonse, here mind supplied easily), rushed into the scene with a long tirade.

Red eyes widened slight and stared after the new pala, looking partially shocked, partially amused.

Edward on the other hand was not amused; if his brother LIKED the stupid eggs it meant he couldn't EAT the stupid eggs. Instantly his ears flopped back against his head, hiding into the mass of golden hair as he directed a sour look at his excited sibling, "I think I rather eat eggs for lunch," the words were said as he retracted his hand and stubbornly folded them over his chest, the sour look still held in place.

Just how many fluffy fuzzy critters did his brother need to feel satisfied? Even Edward had to admit that the answer to that one question was easy; infinity.

As Al chose his words and directed them at the 'mother', Lamia blinked; her maw opened, only to close, and then again. The actions were repeated a full four times before the dark breed finally regained the ability to talk. A hiss whistled through her lips and fangs as she bristled slightly, only to force herself into smiling. The gesture was forced however; oh-so-very forced, "I'm afraid they're not my eggs, darling; no black or red on them, love," a pause as she arched a brow at Susku himself, "And I'm quite sure Susku's mate would feel rather angered if I were to hit on him to get eggs of my own, however, I'm quite sure Susku would agree to you kyunru-sitting them."

Edward was wondering what the hell 'kyunru-sitting' had to do with looking after eggs; you weren't even SITTING on the eggs when you 'kyunru-sat'. Who was the bloody idiot that made up that phrase anyhow?

Happy Tofu
Susku smiled, missing every hiss, snarl and signal from Lamia that no, she didn't appreciate the nickname, or anything for that matter. One could even argue he misinterpreted her reactions all together, given what followed, "Awww, don't let it get to you, Auntie-To-Be Lami~!" He reached over and gave her a solid pat on the shoulder, "You'll find yourself a nice mate one day, too, and have eggs ALL of your own. Then you can be promoted to "Mommy-Lami", and eventually maybe even "Granny-Lami"! How does that sound?"

As joyous as Susku was, what with the eggs he had to gush over and the friendly company of Lami, it didn't prevent him from dropping his jaw at the sheer offense, the utter audacity of Edward. He hurried to cover the eggs with his mane, a means of "covering their ears" he hoped, and from this awkward position, glared with narrowed eyes. Susku even opened his mouth to give that little Pala a piece of his (admittedly lacking) mind when someone else beat him to it.

Pulling up the back of his blue jacket to frantically bunch around the egg, as though trying to smother it, (although in reality he was simply acting on account of having the same "cover its ears" ideology as Susku) Alphonse took a sudden step back from Edward. "Watch what you're saying! You'll upset you-know-who!" Looking positively wounded, and with a voice to match it, Al brought the makeshift egg-nest up to his chin, cradling the poor, offended egg. "Don't worry, little baby Kyunru," Alphonse cooed directly to it, "he won't be eating anything for lunch after that remark." Huffing, he moved even further away from Edward, sitting down next to Susku in an exaggerated motion.

Dark Fire Angel
Another wince from the dark kyunru, her vampire-like fangs showing in her grimace, "Right, you keep on thinking that, honey," she turned to look away from Susku and murmured something keen to needing a good glass of blood right about now, and that a good scare is not worth this humiliation. Alas, the commotion that followed probably drowned her words. Turning her gaze, she was swift enough to watch both father-to-be and Alphonse cover the eggs protectively; she had the hint of an idea that they were trying to keep them from hearing Edwards blunt words.

The idea made up for the humiliating nickname, and the kyunru found herself chuckling softly, "Now wouldn't that be interesting," she drawled as she leaned forward over Susku's back, "However, dear, if I were you, I'd keep certain eggs out of your diet..." propping herself over the kyuria's back as a means of managing to talk to the pala better, she coughed into a front paw, "Now, you young-lings might not know this, but kyunru eggs are highly special in the way they hatch, and the way they are; extremely delicate, they're like glass shards. When they hatch they burst," her eyes narrowed down as she leered into Edward's golden eyes, "Ever try eating glass that bursts into a million pieces? How do you think that would feel?" her tongue came out of her maw to lick her lips, "Logic says it'd be painful; for you. It's a defense mechanism, or so that's what I've heard."

Now, it was impossible to tell if the idea of eating an egg would truthfully cause it to burst inside one's mouth, however, the morbid idea had been brought forward, and it was enough to cause Edward to flatten his ears further against the nape of his neck. His hand came up slowly to touch his maw, unconscious reaction to Lamia's words as she carefully groomed her front paw, still propped up over the male kyuria. Well, there went THAT idea...

As Alphonse sat away from him, he crosses his arms over his chest, sulking slightly, "Gee, well thank you for starving me to death then."

Another chuckle from Lamia as she finally lowered herself away from Susku, once more curling up behind him, watching the egg that lay upon Alphonse's lap, "Be careful now," she cooed, "Glass like, you know..." idly she wondered if all the kyunru that remain within Elderspark were like this; she was quite sure that her sister, once she arrived, would get along just fine with this lot. Was it her fault if she was slightly more morbid for their likes?

~Sinecura~
(( *mini flails* I didn't want to interuppt you guys! ;w; Or be a bother.. XD ))

Yawning slightly, Tobrial shook her maned head and headed back to her small family. Going for a quiet stroll had done a great deal to restore her energy and generally bright outlook on life. As she neared the spot where she'd left Susku and the babies, the little unicorn was somewhat surprised to see a couple of Palas and a Kyun she'd never laid eyes on before.

"Susku?" she called out softly, "who are all of these folk?"

Hurrying forward, she nearly bulled over one of the palas in her rush to check her babies.

Susku had begun to sulk, what with all the talk of eggs being eaten, eggs exploding, eggs breaking...

He'd even sent Lamia few sad little glances in the hopes she'd catch his subtle hinting and think to change the subject, but again, not being as bright as certain other Kyunru, she seemingly failed to notice them. Thus, when Tobrial came in, Susku all but sang in praise, jumping to his feet and looking about ready to sob in relief. "TOBRIAL!" He pressed himself against her, burying his head in her mane and looking for all the world like a bullied child crawling home to his mother. "I don't want our eggs to explode!!!"

Looking awkwardly between the two Kyunru, and suddenly worrying a bit for his saftey (gigantic overprotective-mother Kyunru were something anyone with half a brain knew to avoid), Alphonse gently, oh-so-gently, layed the egg he'd borrowed back down next to its siblings and cousins. This done, he wasted no time in dashing back over to Edward, his previous bitterness having apparently evaporated to nothing. Without a trace of shame, he snuck behind his brother and huddled down, cowering slightly.

Giving Susku a soft, reassuring purr, Tobrial eyed the dartign Pala for a moment before turnign her full attention to her distraught mate.

"Exploding? Our eggs? Is exploding another word for hatching?" the sea unicorn replied with some confusion. Exploding sounded so... so... VIOLENT!

"The exploding part won't hurt the babies inside the eggs, will it?"

Carefully nosing the nearest of her eggs, Tobrial churred contentedly, happy to note hat the egg was just the right temperature.

Frowning, Edward managed to pull himself out of the way before Tobrial almost ran him over. Showing he was displeased by glaring at her back, he retreated slightly, flapped his wings and sat himself to peer at them all from the relative height of the sofa arm. A snort of disdain showed upon his features, ears flattening back till they'd vanished completely by now, "It'd be more polite to ask US what our names are instead of ignoring us and almost running us over..." the words were mumbled faintly, and perhaps not heard by the others. He made room for his brother as he sat beside him. Height meant security right now.

As it was, however, Lamia's ear twitched; she'd heard Edward's word, and amusingly enough, she agreed with him, if only slightly. Turning her head to the petite unicorn, whom she figured was Susku's mate (only he could get a mate as airheaded as himself - if she wasn't airheaded, she sure as heck looked it at least), "These folks have names, dear," she smiled at the unicorn, placing one of her paws on her own chest, "And it's nicer to ask us, than Susku-dear; my name is Lamia, pleased to meet you," her words were soft, aimed to produce confidence, not hurt, obviously. Had she wanted to hurt someone, the vampiress would've lashed out with a bit more dripping sarcasm.

Allowing the moment to pass, she nodded towards the eggs, as if both other kyuns were rather daft, "No, dear, exploding is another word for ..." she paused a mere moment, making a show of thinking, "Exploding, of course," this said, she tucked her paws under her chest again, content enough to purr, "Kyunru hatching is violent, and rather dangerous, that's why we need bonds. With humans. Or something like that; I forget the details... but I'm quite sure a kyunru as old as Fafnir would know all about egg hatching," she allowed that to sink in before smirking ever so slightly, "Ask him."

Of course, she knew how kyunru hatching was indeed dangerous. Idly she wondered what world all these people had been living in.

"I don't think I want eggs for lunch anymore," the words were murmured to Al as an afterthought. It was as much of an apology as anyone was going to drag out of him.

Alphonse wasted no time in jumping on the bandwagon; perking up from behind Ed (who was already small, and sitting to boot, so it's not as though he really had to do much to be seen), he waved his hand in a friendly motion and called over, "And I'm Alphonse!!! It's nice to meet you! Your eggs are very lovely and I hope you'll let me Kyun-sit for you a whooole lot!!" A pause, a smile, and then upon remembering... "...oh, right. And this is my brother." Compared to the excitement of baby Kyunru, introducing Edward was much too mundane to deserve any sort of energetic introduction, so he settled for a casual jerk of his hand.

Susku wrapped himself around his eggs once again, alternating between teary glances in their direction, and sorrowful ones in Tobrial's. "Of... of course it wouldn't hurt them! Imriel would never let that happen!" He subdued a whine, looking around the gathered creatures with imploring eyes, "...right? She wouldn't??" He had every intention of asking Fafnir more on the matter later, of course, but Susku doubted he'd be able to survive until then if he couldn't have at least a little good news to cling to.

~Sinecura~
Hanging her head and feeling properly chastened fo her rudeness, Tobrial listened to the ark kyunru intently.

"I don't think askign Mr Fafnir would be a good idea at all," she huffed softly. "He's the one who said that my babies were tummy worms! He can't know that much."

Returning her attention to her eggs, she laid beside them and nuzzled each in turn. Once sure that both were fine, she once again eyed the igger fo the two Pala and smiled.

"You did a good job tending the one egg. Would you maybe like to help me out with them?"

She paused a moment and blushed slightly at yet another lapse in manners.

"My name is Tobrial, miss Lamia. Please forgive my rudeness. I hadn't been expecting to see others when I got back from my walk."

Dark Fire Angel
Lamia arched a brow, chuckling to herself, "Tummy worms?" she decided that perhaps, pressing the matter would be entertaining yet not entirely appropriate. At least not now. Thus so, she stored this little piece of info into the back of her brain, deciding she'd further question the dragon-kyn about these 'tummy worms'. For some reason, the idea of Fafnir trying to explain how and where babies came from (which she had no doubt had been the conversation they'd forced the dragon into, what with the level of air-headed-ness these two showed) would be incredibly amusing to hear, "You're right though, my dear; always ask a female about female things. Eggs are indeed a female things, after all... they come from within us, now don't they?" a pause, "I recall the inside of eggs being horribly acidic too; we need our human to help us with the hatching due to this."

Satisfied she'd managed to put a damper on the unicorn's mood, enough to get her to apologise, the vampiress turned her head to the pala, making a motion towards the smaller of the two, "And that rude little fluffball by Alphonse, that's decided not to grace us with his name, is Edward," she emphasised the word 'little', but merely got a huge glare from the smaller pala.

Edward, was in fact, sulking by then; not only had he no eggs for breakfast. The fact these stupid eggs were also acidic was furthermore reason to not eat them. The reasons were piled one over the other! It was just not fair. Idly he wonder if he could just sic Fluffy on these kyunsrus or something; special on the black one, "Who the hell are you calling little?" the words were pouted slightly however, the biting edge lost somewhat. This was no doubt at least partially due to ... whatever Mansi had told, or done to him that day a week ago, when she'd carried him off to 'educate' him.

Crossing his arms over his chest, he debated what to do till he turned to his brother; he was about to ask him if they could just GO now, when he saw the look of sheer excitement he wore. Of course, this paused the blond pala, making him sigh and force himself to stay still and THERE instead of leaving. If his brother thought this was so utterly interesting, he'd stay, "I hate you all..."

"Nice to know dear," came the drawling voice, "No need to hold high expectations then. That aside, I guess the feelings' mutual too then," amusingly enough, the words were said without malice, as if Lamia were talking about the weather.

"Fruits and Candy"

Dark Fire Angel
Humming to himself, Edward (for once in his life!) was in fact not studying! Or even reading a book, for that matter! In fact, he'd somehow arrived to the conclusion he should actually somehow show those he cared for... how much he cared (The idea had been Mansi's; she'd suggested the small pala make an alcoholic drink with lots of sugar and a few other things... but Edward had decided against that particular train of thought). Thus was why he was enduring the hard, HARD work of actually MAKING something, instead of receiving, like he always was.

He took extra care not to have the oven burn the content of his work, or explode on him (Technology was prone to explosions when the small pala touch it, for some odd reason beyond him). Since Alphonse, Yin and... that other one did really expect him to be in the kitchen, he knew it'd be the last place in the world they'd go to in order to find him. Edward had calculate he had a couple of hours before his brother decided to attempt the kitchen, and thus time enough to make whatever it was he'd decided to make.

Having won the battle, he couldn't keep himself from smirking, even despite how foolish he looked; he was clad with a pink, overgrown apron, and had somehow managed to get more flour on himself than on the pink kitty shaped cake he'd (more or less) baked, however, nothing seemed to matter! Because he'd won the battle! HA! Take that!

Technology = 100, Edward = 1!!

... somehow, that thought made him pause and reconsider his happiness, but he soon enough shrugged and pulled the cake out of the oven, setting it on the table as he smirked at it crossed armed. It'd be a matter of moments before the others found him. Mansi too, probably (despite the fact she terryfied the small pala, and he wouldn't admit as much, she'd given him a nice talking to. It seems some of it had stuck inside Edward's mind).

In fact... 1.... 2.... 3.... any moment now!

Happy Tofu
"HEY NII-SAN!!"

The voice that called out was odd, a bit girlier than Alphonse's, and containing much more energy than the Pala usually had. Edward wouldn't have had time to puzzle over these discrepancies, however, because a blindingly neon Kyunru barreled into the kitchen so soon afterward it was as though she'd been riding the very sound waves that preceded her. "Haha, I bet I fooled you good, little man! I should have been a voice actor, don't you think!? Wow, it's really shocking to see you without that adorable shadow of yours, but frankly I think it's good for the both you to-- WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WEARING!? OH MY GOD, kid, you look so cute I could ********' kidnap you right here and now!" Totally forgetting the direction of her initial conversation, she skipped over to Edward and, as she moved to eye his cake, came within a mere centimeter of shoving her nose directly into it. "Tryin' to impress your man with confectionery goodies, are ya? That is SO hardcore, my friend. I daresay, though, as fetching as that apron looks on ya'... pink isn't really your color." She took a step backward, sat down on her hind legs, and inspected him. "Mmm... yes. You're definitely more of a 'Purple Mountain's Majesty', if I do say so myself. You also may want to try a few sizes smaller."

Somewhere in between Mansi's topic-hopping tangents, the real Alphonse had snuck into the kitchen, and he'd heard just enough of her comments to feel vaguely self-conscious. Al hardly considered himself to be Ed's shadow... his company was always appreciated by the elder Pala, after all! And yet, the point was fair, and at least for the moment Ed seemed to be enjoying the company of someone else-- for a change, hallelujah!-- so he figured it would probably be best to sneak right back out...
