Some of the kids in my band use lyres, only in the stands though... but I've never used one... I used to be a flute... but then I decided to join the Pit last year, because we're just so cool xp , and now I play cymbals... we don't even have written music... it's just sort of passed down through the years... and we get to make the new songs up xd 3nodding
edited: I am still a flute in class... except lately when my teacher is making me play percussion... crying I miss my flute

I despise lyres. They don't look good on the field at all.
I'm the Upper Brass Captain at school, so I usually tell the underclassmen to have a piece memorized in full by a certain date (usually I'll tell them on a Friday after a game and let them have the weekend to work on it). When the deadline rolls around, I just take their lyres and put them under my chair for the class period; that's enough proof. They're coming along, though.

Jumar my band instructor talks about how bad it is to use those. he says that if you march with them, you are more likely to be off step, and you wont watch the drum major Exactly

RifleArt Jumar my band instructor talks about how bad it is to use those. he says that if you march with them, you are more likely to be off step, and you wont watch the drum major Exactly Most of our marching music is easy, anyway, so we don't use lyres much for that. We occasionally use them for halftime thingies, though.

Ugh. After the first year of "attempting" to use a Flute lyre, getting it crooked, loosing circulation, turning the knob and twisting the other side around- only to wind up with the music to close to your face, getting it too tilted.....I basically gave up and memorized my music like a good flute player...
And that just helped. I needa burn that thing anyway....>_>''

Yeah; flute lyres are really annoying. If you're gonna use any, though, the least incompetant ones are the ones you hook around your wrist. At least that's what I think. ^^"

I was supposed to use a "Flutist's Friend" in high school (they aren't actually lyres, but whatever) but I hated the thing with a firey passion so I always memorized my music. Friend my butt, those things are eeevil. Anyways, I'm not allowed to use one anymore... I guess because our songs are long and there are a whole lot.

We've never used them. Evar. I guess the closest thing we got to them was when the 8th graders had their special little football game time, once during the year when they got to play with the marching band. If they didn't know their music, they were aloud to tape their music to the back of the person infront of them. ^^
I guess I never realized that bands used them; we've always memorized our music. *shrugs*

Yep. We use lyres. I don't, since I'm a piccolo, but my friends who play the clarinet and trumpet do. They seem to break em' a lot xd
They even used em' as hair clips before xd

We only use lyres when we play pep music in the stands. Most people use them and some people don't. Those that don't use them either memorize the music or hold the folder up (It's mostly the brass that don't use them) I'm one of those that don't use them and hold it up. It's easier for me cause I play the trumpet and I can play with just one hand. But after a while my arm does start to hurt sweatdrop

We use them because we don't march, we just sit in the stands. Good lord I hated those evil flute lyres. gonk I had to use them for two friggin' years. But now I play sax and all is right with the lyres, because they don't cut off my circulation. XD
My friend accidently jumped on his lyre at the last game. ^^;; It's a long story... but it was pretty funny. He has yet to fix it too... which kinda sucked for him since we won our first football game in five years yesterday so we marched around the school today and he couldn't see his music.
