My two close friends were dating for two years. He's a gemini & she was a saggitarius. She read that they'd be awesome together. She was excited that they would at least be together for a long time. Turns out that he had wanted to break up with her for a long time. She was mortified.

Same with my aunt & uncle. He was an aquarius & she was a saggitarius. They got divorced. It was a complete shock to everyone cause they always looked to happy together. Turns out that their homelife was very bad.

Lady Lachesis - I'm not entirely sure I agree with your notion of two people of the same sign not working. I've read that one system of compatibilities advises that women will be most attracted to people of the same sign as their sun or their mars, and that men will be most attracted to people of the same sign as their moon or venus. So, for women at least, a partner of the same sun sign could work, particularly if other parts of their charts suggest it.

And while there is truth in the 'opposites attract' thing, I don't think it works perfectly - after all, the sign 'opposite' you isn't really your opposite. If you're a masculine sign, the one opposite you is masculine, and the same with the feminine signs. So a sign like cancer, for example, is far more removed from sagittarius than is gemini, in terms of personality traits, and yet cancer/sagittarius wouldn't be thought of as a likely pair.

With two sagittarians, I expect each will understand the other's need for space and freedom well, so in that respect it's likely to work where a more needy or possessive sign could be problematic for sag.

In theory, and to an extent, yes - I agree. However, it's never as easy as that.

While shy and bold can work that way, it can also happen that they don't get along because shy needs a lot of time to his/herself and bold wants to be out all the time, so they have conflicts when regulating their social lives and don't want to do the same things. Bold wants to drag shy out of its comfort zone, and what shy wants to do seems boring to bold.

Furthermore, since air and fire are supposed to be extroverted and water and earth introverted, and air is always opposite fire and earth water, it seems that when considering opposite signs, you're inclined to get bold with bold (i.e. gemini and sagittarius) and shy with shy (pisces and virgo) rather than bold with shy.

I also think the opposites balancing idea only goes so far in other parts of life, too. You list knowledge and wisdom as opposites - but what then is ignorange, if not knowledge's opposite? And foolishness wisdom's? Knowledge and wisdom don't seem to be opposites at all to me; they're not mutually exclusive the way knowledge and ignorance are. And it's not as easy to say that we need a balance of knowledge and ignorange in our lives.

I think you're right that to an extent, the opposite is good. But in some instances it's just too extreme. Look at Aquarius and Taurus - not opposite in placement, but essentially opposite in every other way (aside from both being stubborn [fixed]). Taurus needs to possess, Aquarius cannot stand being possessed. Taurus is stable and traditional; Aquarius is unpredictable and likes the new. They've many characteristics which oppose, but the effect is not usually good - it's more the case that they've so little in common they can't understand the way the other is working, and it becomes intolerable. And it definitely seems that Taurus and Aquarius are more 'opposite', in characteristics, than are Taurus and Scorpio (both possessive, both introverted) for example.

well...both me & my boyfriend are aquarius & we've been working out just fine. We're more in love than ever. As for clutzy there, her first boyfriend was a gemini. You could ask her how that worked out. & you can't just depend on just the sun sign itself either.
Also chinese zodiac0wise, they didn't work well together anyways whereas her new boyfriend & her work out well.

Heh, I've only had the pleasure of dating one Aries. I can safely say they're awesome people. Though you have to be careful you don't let your hormones get the better of you. If you rush into it, your relationship will be short lived.

Aries and Libra have a natural chemistry. My childhood best friend was an Aries, and my mothers current best friend is an Aries. And for Libra girls, Aries guys have very attractive personalities. They're almost too desirable to keep as "just friends", hehe.

it didn't work out that was the problem! lol! and i love my current boyfriend sooo much and she's right you were concetraiting only on the sun signs and if you only concentrate on the sun signs then don't use it as a guide becuse then you could possibly miss some thing special. becuse if i had taken your advise(if i was ever one to take a strangers advise) i would have missed out on the relationship i'm in now which is going extreamly well!
